My guitar is actually a SD 11-P, but it is a Landola made Peavey so I've put my review here. German/Alpine spruce top, lovely flame. This is very rare and expensive top wood. Back and rims are mahogany. Neck is mahogany w/rosewood fingerboard. Schaller machines. Very similar to a Martin D-18, but with a subtle European vibe.I bought this guitar new in Spring 2000, but it was made in 1994. They just couldn't sell it I guess! Peavey is not known for good acoustics but for 2 years, '94 and '95 they imported a line of acoustics made by Landola of Finland. The Finnish currency had to have been in the toilet at that time, because this guitar is the equal of many guitars costing thousands of dollars. Craftsmanship, finish, and tone, all superb. Action a tad high, but ok for a dreadnought.Came with a gig bag. I actually traded a '97 Tacoma C1C Chief for this guitar. The Chief was actually an easier playing guitar, but the Peavey/Landola has it beat for tone, looks, and quality vibe. Satin finish
Sound

Great sound, not real loud but as another reviewer so eloquently stated, refined. German?Alpine spruce (same thing) is different. Construction seems to have been copied from a Martin, scalloped braces, etc. Sounds best (to me) with Martin Marquis 80/20 lights. Phosphor bronze didn't work as well. Just a note to all steel string acoustic players, try both 80/20s and phosphor bronzes on your guitars. There is a diference, one is not "better" than the other, but one may work better on a certain guitar than the other. Also try different string guages. Sometimes mediums will move your top better, and sometimes they'll bind it.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action was a bit high, probably from hanging on the wall of a South Florida (we talkin' humidity!) music store for 6 years. I've straightened out the neck with the truss rod and taken down the saddle, but it's a tad high. Not unplayable. The fit and finish on this guitar is superb. Call it a 8 for action and a 10 for craftsmanship, averages out to a..

I would not play this guitar out. It stays at home. I could never replace it. Very rare guitar. I gig with my Ovation.Well made and solid guitar, but too valuable to me to take out.

Nice folks at Peavey, e-mailed them with questions, they got back to me in 24 hours. Never got it repaired. Limited lifetime warranty, but I'd never use it. Like Peavey would ship it back to Finland? And Landola is the only one I'd trust to work on it.. I'd send it to a good luthier first.

I've been playing (off and on) for 46 years. I've been through vintage Gibsons and Fenders back in my rock and roll days. I now play an Ovation out in church. If my Peavey were stolen or lost I couldn't replace it, you never see these guitars for sale but rarely. The tone is the unique thing about this guitar, very sweet and refined, but punchy and round. Juicy. Amazing value. If you find one of these for sale, grab it, it's a $2000 guitar for around $300.

Bought new from Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI. Solid alpine spruce top, rosewood back and sides, 1 piece mahogany neck, rosewood board, snowflake inlays, chrome Schaller tuners, satin finish. Made by Landola of Finland for Peavey. Nothing ornate, but that lets the craftsmanship shine.

Tone is very balanced from a guitar of this size. Excellent resonance. Very well mannered in projection - not too loud or too quite.

Guitar was set up by seller (Elderly Instruments), but needed to be set up again when received. The workmanship is art. Excellent bookmatched back and body binding. Finish is flawless. Action is med. low. No noise or fret buzz. Very easy playability on par with Takamine.

Time will tell. Warranty was 2 years from Peavey, although Landola offers lifetime. I expect the guitar will last and age to a vintage instrument.

Peavey has excellent customer service. Their forum in monitored. Twice I have posted messages and had them answered within the hour. Documenation on line is very good - although somewhat dated. Otherwise, I'd give them a 10.

I wished I had the opportunity to play this guitar before buying. The sound/projection isn't as "loud" as I would like, although it is very good - very refined is the only way I can describe it. It's a keeper. I could never replace it - no longer made and the price of a Landola is out of my league.

Bought this acoustic guitar about 1 year ago. Standard Dreadnought w/ satin finish (no pickguard). Don't know how much older it is than that. Even though it is marked a "Peavey," it actually is made by "Landola" from Finland. Peavey had a contract with them for a short time to make acoustic guitars. AMAZINGLY is has one the the most prized solid tops around, Alpine Spruce, also known as german spruce (no pickgaurd, expected on most satin finishes). The prices for this spruce goes up almost daily because there is not much left in europe. The top is really beautiful, this kind of spruce almost has a quilted maple shading to it (bookmatched). You need to see one to understand. The back and sides are made of rosewood (solid or laminated i don't know, does it matter if it sounds awesome though?). Doing some research with peavey and landola, i believe this rosewood to be a south american veneer. very beautilful. Also it has a bookmatch 2-piece back, very nice! It has scalloped bracing, a mahogany neck with ajustable truss-rod (a nice light and rich color), a rosewood fretboard, a true dovetail neck joint, bone nut and saddle, chrome die-cast Schallar machine head tuners (Made is W. Germany according to the inscription on the back on the tuning heads), and Peral Snowflake position pointers on fretboard. White abalone bindings around sound board. VERY NICE GUITAR!!

This guitar sounds GREAT! I played it back to back with Martin D-35, HD-28, HD-28 Vintage re-issue, A bunch of Taylors, Tacomas, and more. This held is weight with the best of em!! It has a smooth, deep bass, and sweet highs (not twangy though, thats a good thing with acoustics.) Result is a Rich, full sound with sweet (not over-powering) highs. Excellent guitar for rythm, flatpicking and finger picking. It has nice sustain and resonance. Satin finishes tend to have better resonance.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Out of the shop the actions was awesome! low and smooth, lower than most Taylors (if you've played some taylors you know what i mean). Nut and Bridge are excellent. I found one buzzing fret though, common on all guitars, expecially with low action, nothing a little sanding can't take care of. The 1st string (high E) cut a little into my bridge, causing the action to get even lower and start buzzing. I fixed this easily by raising the action a tiny bit by putting those little strips under by bridge, now it is like new! Finish is satin, flawless when i recieved it. But we all know that acoustic guitars and very delicate, one drop or ding will put a noticable dent in it, like every acoustic guitar. One thing i don't like about satin guitars is that where you strum, where the pickguard should be, you will build up a shiny coating from your picks after a few months of playing. I have though about getting my top (just the top) high gloss finished for that purpose, so i don't get a shiny film on my guitar, before it gets tooo shiny and stands out. But glossing your guitar can change your resonance and sound, so i am a little afraid to do it since i LOVE the sound of this guitar! I heard there are 2 types of glosses, forgot the names. One,i was told by a local guitar repair shop, doesn't change your sound. The other is a little harder, and can change the sound. Still i am a little worried. So i'm not sure what to do. If any of you reading this knows anything about glossing. email me.

A very study guitar. Stays in tune very well, and the hardware is top quality. Finish is nice, but with all acoustics, it will reflect how you treat it, especially with time. Very dependable and solid.

I've called Peavey and they were VERY helpful! I asked about a lot of information on the guitar and they gave it without complaining (as you can see from all my info above). They even faxed me a spec. sheet on my guitar. Never had to get it repaired, although i may get a new bridge, not a problem, a couple bucks. I forgot about the warranty though i know there is one though. I'll find out and if you really want to know email me.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THE PRICE I PAID ON THIS GUITAR. it was a true steal. It is the best guitar one could get for under $1500. I do my research on guitars, i usually know much more than any of the sales poeople when it comes down to specs, wood, sounds, and the whole bit. So believe me when i say this guitar is the bomb! I know some people are "NAME BRAND" people, only buy martins, taylors, etc. And i know peavey is not famous for there acoustic guitars. Let me tell you this, What makes a guitar good? not the name printed on its headstock, but the sound, construction, detail and craftsmanship. This guitar excels in all catagories and if you need something that says "Martin" on it (not to rag on martin, they are awesone guitars!) to be happy, then you are materialistic. sorry. All i know is that this guitar is a professional piece of musical equiptment. I doubt i could replace this guitar if if got stolen, i haven't seen another peavey acoustic in my life. I do belive peavey is planning to start selling acoustic guitars again in the future, but this is a classic, NO replacing it.
