IIt's a great guitar for the money. For $300-$350.00, and all wood guitar. Sound is nice..mellow w/ warm tone as one would expect with cedar.

I don't play live. It's cedar!!! It'll dent if ya hit it, and it's durable as long as you don't plan on dropping it or abusing it. No problems..for the price..if it does get "dinged," just adds a bit of character.

20 years playing. Martins: HD-28, D-15; Ovation: 1778XL Elite; Fender Americam Tele...play through a Blue Junior when playing e;ectric. I'm a no frills kinda' player..effects..nah. I like the natural sounds of a guitar, and this seagull, while certainly not a HD-28 or High-End guitar...It is a great value and rivals many acoustics in the $650-$900 range. After that..I'd get a D-15, which I believe to be the best Acoustic you can buy for less than $1000.00

The guitar has what is called a "rustic" finish. It is flat with a pleasing violin type coloration and a mild sunburst effect. Small jumbo body style with a deep body. It comes with Seagull tuners which may be manufactured by Ping (China). The neck gives you 14 frets to play with, medium frets, 1.72' nut width, and a rosewood fretboard backed by maple. There is no binding on either the neck or the peghead. Peghead is typical Seagull style sloping in the from the nut with a plastic overlay and company logo. This guitar was bought used and included a TKL hardshell case. The top wood is cedar and you have wild cherry back and sides that are laminated. No built in electronics on this model.

I play fingerstyle blues - delta and piedmont style and this guitar has a nice warm midrange that I find pleasing. The bass is modest but not muffled and the top end does not have the snap of a spruce top. For what I like to play, this guitar is about right. If you strum this may not be the guitar for you. I find that I can overdrive the top easily and start to lose some projection.

I bought used and have no idea how it came from Seagull as far as action. But it appears to have EXP strings on it and I have no trouble making chord changes and the action is relatively easy to play. The cedar top is soft and prone to mark easily and is not forgiving in terms of accidents - something to be aware of if you are considering this guitar. I like the nut width and the saddle (Tusq) appears to do the job. I may swap the saddle and bridge pins out for bone or fossilized walrus. Hardware is in great shape - no rust.

The cedar top might not be what you want to take to a gig both for the sound (soft and warm) and the fact that it scars so easily. I will use it in some live playing but I have some concerns about it's ability to withstand too much abuse. The tuners are good enough, but I may change them later as staying in tune seems to be an issue with Seagulls...at least for me. Strap button in the back is solid and it did not come with a button for the front. I do not use a strap anyway. I like the guitar and for the playing I do, I believe it is reliable despite the tuning issue noted above.

No Opinion
Since I bought it used, I doubt that I am eligible for a warranty. I have asked Seagull some questions about this guitar but they have declined to respond as of the date of this review.

I have been playing off and on for 40 years. I have other acoustics and buy for the type of music I like (acoustic blues and traditional fingerpicking). My biggest gripe and concern would be the softness of the cedar top, yet it gives this guitar a lot of character. I love the body style and its tone. Yes...I would replace it. Seagull gives great value for the money spent. I compared it to some Taylors that I like...no comparison, this is not a $1,000.00 plus guitar yet as said above it is a great value. I chose it because of the sound, the nut width and the fact that I love the small jumbo body style. I wish that Seagull would do away with the plastic ring around the sound hole and charge a little more and give us something that looked like herringbone. Plastic has no place on a guitar.
