Judging by the serial number, this particular model was made in 2001. Seagull guitars pride themselves with thier impeccable quality and true uniqueness from being hand-made, and this guitar is no exception. This is a dreadnought guitar. It has 8 layers of hand-rubbed laquer (applied over 8 days), a perfectly bookmatched cedar top, a mahogany-cherry-mahogany layered back and sides, and a ribbon transducer with an LR Baggs Micro EQ preamp. This guitar is gorgeous in its simplicity. You can really tell this guitar was built with the human touch, and it looks and sounds beautiful because of it. You can still see the pores of the wood through the laquer, which is gorgeous.

Sound : 10
Gorgeous. Beautiful. Dare I say perfect? The sound is round and natural, and the treble rings with sustain. It projects nicely unplugged, with a nice, loud, perfectly balanced sound. Plugged in, this guitar's punchy, resonant sound shines through beautifully. The EQ has bass, treble, and volume, which isn't much, but the guitar's natural tone was really preserved well. The preamp takes nothing away from the sound, plugged and unplugged.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Mine was set up with care and expertise by the skilled technitians of Elmore Musical Warehouse in Peoria IL. The frets fret easily, low or high on the fretboard, and the action was set up to perfectly accomodate my tastes. The nut seems to be of good quality, as is the bridge, and the truss rod (surprisingly) did not need the "month-after-purchase adjustment". The quality of wood was breath-taking. These guitars are primo quality.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I have no doubt this product is reliable. The tuners are solid, the guitar was obvously scrutinized over by skilled lutiers, and its durability is of no suspicion whatsoever. The cedar top may be subject to a few more dings and bumps than other woods, being as it's a very soft wood, but it's a strong, solid top. I like to baby my guitars, especially acoustics, so I'm not too concerned with how long it will last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, but they offer a damned good warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
Seagulls are a line of ultra fine, hand-crafted, high-quality guitars, built by skilled lutiers in the village of La Patrie, Quebec, Canada. These people obviously have nothing but the end-user in mind, and this guitar meets and exceeds every one of my needs. This guitar literally takes my breath away every time I pull it out of its case. It's the epitomy of the quintessential acoustic guitar. I submit this review with the highest of regards.
