Starting off, i just want to say that this guitar is amazing. I played it at the local music shop and was immediately hooked. The bass is phenomenal and the high notes are perfect. This guitar is also extremely beautiful. It has a cedar top with cherry back and sides. The top has a very thin finish on it (unlike the s6) to help protect against strumming. This is nice because cedar is a very soft wood. Plus, it doesn't hold back the sound at all.

I mostly strum and do a little finger picking on the sides. This guitar sounds wonderful. I was at guitar center and i was about to buy an ibanez aef37e. I thought i might as well try the seagull while i was there and WOW what a difference. There was no comparison. I had to buy this guitar. The sounds is equal to (or even better than) my buddy's $1750 Martin. All i have to say is wow.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great action. Perfectly set. It has a bit of a wider nud width (1.8") but i like that, because i have bigger hands and it sounds nice.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Not sure at this point, but if very well built. Very sturdy

I bought this one brand new in 2008 for $469USD. It's a dreadnought style with the cutaway and the high gloss finish on the top. This is the Quantum I model, with Seagull's factory electronics. The guitar came with the TRIC case, which was pretty interesting in itself. The outside is made of composite foam material, called Neopolen P Expanded Polypropylene or EPP, of which I was a bit skeptical at first. After a bit of research I found that this case is more resistant to temp changes than the typical hard shell, yet it's very light weight, almost as light as a gig bag. And it offers decent impact protection to keep this beauty safe. The neck is the typical Seagull style, nice and wide. I do a lot of finger picking, so the wide neck was just right for me. Cosmetically, the guitar is absolutely stunning. The cedar top is gorgeous, and paired nicely with the Wild Cherry back and sides, making for a very traditional presentation. The neck is made of Silver Leaf Maple, and the bridge and fingerboard are Rosewood. The guitar is topped off with a very snazzy headstock and silver hardware. This is a very professional looking instrument.

Wow...just wow! I expected something when I bought this guitar. I expected a 500$ guitar to sound like a $500 dollar guitar. This one sounds like it cost DOUBLE that. Acoustically, it's not as bright and boomy as a Spruce topped guitar, but it has much more richness and clarity, perfect for fingerstyle guitar or strumming. It shipped with the factory Godin strings, which I promptly removed and replaced with my usual choice strings. But even though the Godin strings were pretty rough, the thing STILL sounded good right out of the box! Plug it in, and it still sounds just as good. I had originally been looking for a Quantum II version, but I am very happy that I saved my money and went for the QI. Even without a midrange control the sound is still amazing. Crystal clear highs and nice bottom end.

The action on this one was a bit low from the factory, but with very slight truss rod adjustment, I was able to eliminate the buzz. The frets are nice and wide, again a plus if you play fingerstyle guitar. I LOVE the wide neck. I'm used to playing a classical guitar(ala Chet Atkins or Jerry Reed) and this neck is very close to the width you typically find on those guitars. The top, as said above, is finished in high gloss. Don't let this fool you. The sound out of this guitar does not say gloss top. Most people will tell you that a gloss finish deadens the sound. This is not the case with this guitar at all. The only complaint I have in this area is with the plate for the Quantum I. The knobs are not recessed. I would have felt better about the spring loaded push-to-release jobs. Nevertheless, the sound and overall appearance make up for this tiny peeve.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I wouldn't hesitate to play live indoors or outdoors with this guitar. The gloss finish on the top appears very durable, not thin and cheap like most other guitars of this price range.

If you are looking for a great guitar - one that will provide you with years of lasting enjoyment, and you're a budget-minded player, I highly recommend this guitar. I have owned several acoustics(Martins, Taylors, Guild, vintage and new) and this one stands out as my best deal. Period.
