I bought mine used, with no case or accessories, although it does have a piezo pickup someone installed.

I've owned a few 12-string acoustic guitars and this is certainly the best of the lot. The S12 has a very full and balanced sound. It may not be as balanced as the best 12s I've heard, but given the price it's outstanding.

Fit and finish is as good as any I've seen. The materials are modest- no fancy Brazilian rosewood or inlays- but the attention to detail is as good as I've seen on multi-thousand dollar guitars. String height is a bit high at the octave- the neck seems to have shifted a bit. But ity still plays in tune up the neck.

This guitar was obviously someone's gigging guitar for a number of years, and shows it. - the face is scratched and worn and the neck has obviously moved a little- I can see this guitar needing a reset in another 10-15 years or so. Luckily the bolt-on neck design makes that a MUCH cheaper job than it would be a on a dovetail neck guitar. Overall this is a very solid guitar that can stand up to heavy use.

I've been playing for 30+ years and this is one of the best deals I've seen in a guitar- even at the new price. I'm very pleased with it,a nd if it were stolen I might very well get a new one.

I dont think I will never find a better sounding guitar. A sound so sweet is hard to find. Classical finger picking to Rock, stairway to heaven to Fly by Night. You will find yourself lost forgeting about what time it is...

Finish then appeared to be like a light Toungue Oil coat, or basically a wood finish.

Took it on military jaunts, been everywhere with it. Considering what I put it through, I believe it has a spirit of its own now. Don't ever spill water, soda, beer or any liquid between the neck and the body. If you dry it out quick, I didn't. The barrel nuts got loose. I had to take off neck and do some serious work on the neck. Never was the same. Returned twice to factory during warranty period for rear bridge pulling up. Had it happen again. Gorilla Glue solved this problem.

There warranty was 5 year at the time I bought it. Now its a lifetime warranty. Word is, they reject alot of warranties these days.

The neck finally broke in August 2005 when the Guitar fell forward. I am awaiting a new S-12+ electric to be delivered at this time.

I am a active musician with a love for ambient soundscapes, classical, and shoegaze-esque rock. To say the least I love instruments with natural character...a guitar that can stand alone prior to amplification and the saturation of layers and layers of effects, and deliver a full beautifull sound "almost shaming you for modifying its own natural character" is golden for me. This Guitar delivers a bright/resonant earth-tone that is very full as a twelve string should be. Amplified this guitar pushes the highs and low's and is a little more passive in the mid range. Very crisp..Full..and Resonant.

Factory set up was near perfect "Suprising" this shows this canadian base company is concerned with Quality...
The finish is beautifull "Even 5 years later" .
This guitar has settled very solid. It is odd to behold an acoustic guitar that feels this solid. The Cedar is beautifull and reflects the quality as shown on the Seagull Website. The construction and finished product is smooth and nearly seamless "Stand alone quality and crafstmanship for the price". The action is as smooth as this guitars satin finish. This guitar just feels good. To those considering a twelve string guitar .. The neck is large and tuning can be a pain, however, This twelve stays in tune very nicely and is fairly co-operative when tuning ,Accept when tuning the B and high E pairs with a little adjusting this small problem was corrected. The factory setup was near perfect.

This guitar as I have previously mentioned is very solid for an acoustic. The neck most importantly is very solid "It has to be to withstand the stress of the additional strings". I have dropped this guitar and cringed in fear that the neck would have split at the headstock "Where most of the tension is" ... It withstood the impact and even stayed in tune .... go figure. Very reliable "accept the b and high e pairs going out of tune the first 5 months I played this guitar"

I ordered this guitar from seagull .... they are a Canadian based company so it takes awhile for the shipment to process through customs and all that. Do not expect much personality out of this bunch. Their customer service posessed adequate info or could connect you directly with someone who posessed the answers for most of my questions "Mostly in regards to shipping and the processing of my order".

The value of this instrunment remains in my opinion untouched by other manufacturers. My suggestion... find a dealer and play one. In the world of twelve string acoustics this guitar is a wonderfull find. Solid.
This guitar will nosedive like nothing else... the neck as i have said is very solid.... this means it is very heavy... so hold on and keep it secure.

Canadian made Dreadnought, probably 2002. Solid top cedar, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with Godin tuners. Light satin finish. Not many extras, it's a plain jane 12 string guitar. I gave it a 9 for the finish. It's very light alcohol lacquer which really lets the sound come through.

Suits me great! I do mostly Praise & Worship and Folk type stuff and this thing really sings out. Haven't really used any effects or amps yet. In a small to medium sized room I haven't needed any amplification. It is a loud guitar. Also, the tone compared to the Epiphone and the Fender 12s were much better at a much lower price.

:

I usually always have the action lowered in a guitar immediately, but I didn't need to with this one, it was just right. Bookmatched top is perfect, no apparent flaws at all. I've had it for about 7 months and have found nothing to complain about as it came from the factory. Again, the finish is not some glamorous gloss, but that's why I got it. The sound is why I bought this guitar, not the finish.

I play this guitar weekly at church and at home constantly. I've put hundreds of hours on this thing > it's tough! I pamper the top because it is cedar and is very soft wood. It is a very dependable guitar. I had one problem with a tuner breaking and the store I bought it from fixed it immediately.

I have one other Godin guitar and I have never really had to deal with the company directly. The store I bought it from has really helped me with any small thing that I've needed. They're great! I'll give the 9 rating for Mikes Music in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

I've been playing for over a year and I own a Art & Lutherie 6 string. I loved it so much that I went back for this one because of the sound, quality and the price. If this guitar was stolen I would cry and then go buy another one just like it. I compared this guitar to a Fender 12 and a Epiphone 12. I'm now looking to buy a solid body electric and I think I'm going to go back to Godin and get the SDXT.
Seriously... for the price I haven't seen anything that sounds like these Godins and they are made in Canada and they don't have that "assembly line" feel like many guitars do. Check them out!

This axe was made in LaPatrie, Canada (1995). It has a satin finish. It has a solid cedar top, with cherry sides and back. I believe the neck is mahogany (or cherry?). The nut and saddle are made of micarta and the bridge is rosewood. Sealed tuners. Came with hardshell case. I gave the 7 rating due to the simplistic nature and cosmetics of the guitar, not due to quality.

Sounds pretty damn good. I first got it when I was playing on the Pearl Street mall in Boulder, CO. It was hard to keep up with the various other performers with my dinky six string. Let me tell you there were dudes with congas, saxophones, djembes, and even bagpipes and a mariachi band. So since I couldn't afford to get a Dobro, I figured a cheap 12 string would do the trick. Well this one did. It's pretty loud, and there is a really nice midrangy sound to it. Under the right acoustic conditions, the guitar really booms. The bass was pretty even, and the highs were pretty clear. But the midrangyness may make it a difficult guitar for male voices to sing with. If you want to get an idea of the sound, listen to Buddy Guy & Junior Wells - Alone and Acoustic. This guitar is not the one that Buddy Guy plays, but the sound is similar.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The action is pretty good, even at full tension. Some players tune their 12 strings down a step, but I tuned this one to proper pitch, and the action seemed fine. The action is relatively low for a 12 string, but the action is pretty stiff. The intonation was quite good. Workmanship was really good for a guitar this price. The only ding I have about the craftmanship are the bolts for the neck. They are HUGE and ugly, but it is a MINOR flaw. It's hard to see, and do not affect the way it plays.

Really well made guitar. Didn't bang it up much. The high G string has a tendency to break when at pitch, but other than that the top and bridge has really held up over time to the tension. The bracing must be excellent, because I have seen guitars around the same age either bubble at the bridge or crack at the neck joint. This guitar has seen 6 years of playing and it has maintained it's appearance and condition.

Great axe. Loud, unique sounding, and durable. Won't find a better guitar for the price. Paid more than the other reviewers, but I still think I got a great deal. New solid top acoustic 12 string, superbly crafted for under $500. I compared it with a Takamine and a Guild and I liked the sound and feel of the Seagull best. Guild was a little too muddy, and the Takamine wasn't loud enough. They were both around $300-$400 more for used models. Other guitars in the price range were plywood tops. I would definitely recommend it.

Many have indicated cedar here but I was told Cherry wood by the store I bought it from. It has a standard number of frets I suspect, looks relatively ordinary for a great value guitar.

The sound depends much on the guage of the strings. Of the much more expensive guitars I suspect it is comparable. For thust over 200 bucks Canadian I thought this was a steal of a deal.

The action is where this baby shines. There is no guitar I have tried yet, no matter what cost, that has as good an action as this, from the lowest to the very top frets, perfect, flawless. Just blow on a string and it will touch a fret =)

Well, I never got a case. It was in a cold basement where I'd often crank up a wood burning stove to unbareably hot temperatures, so it dried out big time and warped. i was luck enough to tighten the neck back in shape and soaked it with wax oil, so it is OK again. But I never used a case. I suspect any guitar would bew ruined after the punishment this baby got.

The sound is mind-dumbing. This is the best sound I have heard out of a tweleve without spending 1000 bucks. It is incredibly warm and rich sounding. Very pure to what you play. There is virtually no noise except what you play!

Well its hard to say. I bought mine used from a friend. VERY well seasoned. It has a few blemishes but I consider it "character". The action is exactly the way I would've adjusted it. Again I honesly can't think of a thing wrong with it.

I have played this guitar live many many times. I use a soundhole pick up by Dean Markley and it works very well through a variety of amps. The wood has now adjusted and sounds imaculate. The strap buttons are solid and clean. It is the most dependable guitar in my collection.
