Features : 9
The features of this guitar are pretty basic and have been described well. I have a 2006 cedarGT with electronics. Solid Cedar top and wild cherry sides and back.

Sound : 9
The sound of this guitar is the bee's knees. I read about them and their great value and went to check them out. I was in the market for something with a mellow Jack Johnson tone and this fit the bill. This guitar was my first steel string and wow, the lows and mids of this guitar are amazing. I play anything from Jack Johnson, Beatles, Ben Harper, Blues, and Eagles. The best part is that I have had it a year and it is beginning to open up even more and really sing. I tried this guitar along with the low end martins and taylors as well are simon and patrick. I would recommend that you go listen and let the guitar speak to you and not the headstock. The sound of this thing never ceases to make me smile when I strum that first chord. I am thinking about maybe upgrading to a bone saddle and nut or something like that to see if I can get a little more out of it but I am very satisfied as it is. Are there guitars that sound better? Of course. But you WILL pay at least 1500 to find one. If the house caught on fire, this guitar would be the first thing that I grab.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
If you are looking for something fancy, this isn't it. I love the simplistic look of martins and the seagulls keep that simplicity about them. If you are into inlays, and fancy unnecessary crap, save up and go buy a gibson hummingbird or something. The action was good, and since I learned on classical the fretboard was definitely not too wide for me. I have heard of a lot of people saying that they are hard to play, but remember action can be adjusted. It might be considered high by some (electric guitar players) but since it was basically my first guitar I wouldn't know the difference. My opinion is that if you learn with a high action you will be able to play lower actions just fine. I am always up for a challenge though and now it is what I know. Barr chords are tough and first until you develop the muscles but then seem really easy on other guitars with low actions... Finish was good, it is wood so it might have a few imperfections but a very beautiful guitar. I haven't found anything worth writing about.

Reliability/Durability : 10
A year and a half, still looks as good as day one. No complaints, although I am not gigging with it yet and it sits on a stand in my room and I baby it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with them, so I wouldn't know. Guitar is perfect.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for a year a half. I learned on a washburn acoustic that my parents got me back in the day, but I immediately needed to get a steel string. I also own a fender hwy 1 american made strat which I run through a blues junior amp and a tube screamer, I have a vox wah wah for fun, and I play mostly blues on that. If it were stolen, I would definitely by another one because I don't think there can be a better everyday around the house guitar with this kind of sound. I am most likely going to get a nice professional quality guitar for future coffee shop gigging, and right now I am pretty torn between a martin d18 (overpriced IM0) and a cole clark fat lady. I am leaning towards the cole clark because I am all about the sound for the money value. And in the sound for the money contest, Seagull rules the world. I can't stress enough how great this guitar is for a beginner. You will honestly never be sorry and people will comment on how great it sounds. It will inspire you to pick it up every single day. I recommend you put it on a stand so it can talk to you and urge you to pick it up every time you enter the room. I find myself playing all the time, during commercials, any time I can. Trust me, don't waste your money on some Japanese junk guitar. You cannot outgrow this guitar, it has a unique sound because of the cedar and cherry combination and I am always going to keep it within an arms reach.

Features : 7
acoustic, cedar top, white binding but not around the head like newer models, satin finish.

Sound : 7
Great boomy bass and low-mid heavy, good dreadnough sound, great power for blues-folk strumming or fingerpicking. Full sound but sometimes lacks of clarity in the bass frequencies when strummed hard (blame it on cedar maybe). Overall not a bright sounding guitar, but a rich sound that will mature nicely.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Nice satin finish, understated class. good set-up and fair playability. Better like the wide Seagull fretboards, though. Barre chords and high chords can be demanding after a few hours playing..

Reliability/Durability : 7
I use it at home or when playing outside, acoustic gigs. very powerful guitar.

Are you experienced ? no

played for 13 years, went through a few guitars, the S6 I had for 4 years now is a great value for the price, has a big dreadnough sound, and its massive cedar top which will improve again with ageing. I now look for a second higher-end guitar, but mostly for easier playability and brighter sounds.

I purchased this guitar around 1999 and have since installed a Fishman Rare Earth pickup. Looks really great, especially the cherry sides and white trim. I really don't like the headstock, but to each their own..

Sound : 8
This guitar definately has a "Real Wood" kind of sound that could out-do many other guitars in its price range. The secret is the solid cedar top that I really like.
I like the highs on this guitar, they ring out and resonate very well. Although the low end is not intrusive, I would consider it a bit lacking compared to more high-end models with mahogany or rosewood bodies. Of course, a solid bodied guitar could also give you better tone and aging as well. When fingerpicking, the guitar is fairly soft. It gets fairly loud strumming, but not exceptionally. I would call it satisfactory in both of those areas.
Certainly this is a guitar worth raving about for the price tag that it has. It is especially nice that it is a North American built guitar (but our Canadian friends) and you can tell that care is taken when making their instruments. This has got to be one of the better sounding (and looking) guitars for under $500. I would recommend this as a good intermediate guitar, and a great one for gigging.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar seemed set up great when I first took it home (if I can remember that far back). Since then I have had it professionally adjusted yearly or less to make sure the action is where it should be. You must understand that I put this guitar through hell and back. I drag it to band gigs, shows and open mics through the hottest summer days and coldest winter nights. It has withstood that, and I sure will continue to do so in the future. I would definately rely on this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
As I said, I have put this guitar through a lot and it has withstood well. One important note that others have said, and I would like to emphasize, is the cedar top is easy to wear down and my front is all scratched up from playing. The satin top does little to stop damage, so you must either play very carefully or accept that the face of the guitar will eventually gain some, shall we say, character. The body, however, still looks great even after bashing it all over the place. Yes, this is a very dependable and well-crafted instrument.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have only dealt with my local music shop who have kept everything working well for me.

Overall Rating : 9
I am 21 years old and have been playing since slightly before I bought the guitar which was about five years ago. I am just now at the stage where I am wanting a second, slightly more high end guitar to use as my more sacred instrument and keep my seagull as my all-purpose campfire/open mic/gigging kind of instrument. I really would cry if this were stolen because I have used it and grown with it for so long. A guitar really can be an attachment. Even though I now desire a bit more in a guitar sonically, I must say that the sound of the Seagull is unique and welcoming to me, which is why I will always want to keep it around.
A guitar is, of course, always an objective item both sonically and visually, but I can tell you that anyone, either new or learning, who is looking for an instrument that will make them want to pick up the guitar and play, this is a really excellent choice. I cannot see how anyone could be unsatisfied with this instrument. My dad bought a seagull guitar a year before I did because he loved the sound of his friends seagull guitar. Any time I tell anyone I have a Seagull guitar they either tell me how many great things they've heard about them, or are intrigued.. and rightly so. As of now I am looking at some higher end guitars, and I hope to get a Martin.. but who knows, there are so great higher end Seagull guitars out there as well. Alright.. now finishing up reading your reviews and go play some guitar!!

Features : 10
S6 + CW Cedar (solid) top, laminated cherry wood back and sides. This one has the L.R. Baggs micro eq. Everything else like described in all other reviews. I bought from original owner, who bought it a few years ago (2001?). Blame Canada. Guitar's great and it came with hardcase. I'm usually a dreadnought kind of guy, but this guitar is totally worth the cutaway, and the funky headstock is really growing on me. I bought and installed strap button for the neck.

Sound : 10
If you're like me, you've probably seen this a lot from people that haven't played very long: "this guitar sounds as good as guitar three times the price; yadda yadda yadda..." Well, I think I finally found the one for which that is true. It might be a little quiet for finger picking, but since I play mostly americana, country/rock/pop (Neil Young, earlier Wilco, Wallflowers, Pete Yorn) it suits me great. Very warm and bright, sometimes can get close to the bright tiny laminate sound, but it doesn't really get there thankfully. I have a friend who's had one and I always thought it sounded great, at least through his acoustic amp (it's supposed to sound good through that, right?) Well, when I got mine out of the case, the sound impressed the heck out of me. When I finally got to plug it in, it impressed me yet again, and this is just the micro eq. First time I played it through this amp that had crappy tubes: bad idea. But then I played a solo acoustic set and plugged it through a Roland JC 120, and the guitar retained a lot of the acoustic sound even through the amp. I couldn't believe how good that sounded. Best deal ever.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Here's one problem: the bridge is coming unglued on mine, which is no biggie considering I know enough good luthiers in Orlando. Action is very comfortable. I read about the wide neck, which had me a little worried but when I got it, it brought memories of my old school classical guitars from back in the day. The L.R.Baggs micro eq is the cheapest of electronics on Seagull, but it sounds way better than a Fishman Rare Earth on my 60's Gibson J-45. When I have enough money, I'm so going to buy the dreadnought Seagull Artist model with the expensive L.R. Baggs. It also has a light crack on the top, which actually adds a little character to the guitar and does not affect the sound whatsoever. Even the color makes it look like a "worn in" guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Well, I always have backup but this is my new main acoustic axe until I get a more expensive Seagull. I can't wait to take it to the studio. So far she's holding up, and I'm a hard strummer on stage.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have yet to find out

Overall Rating : 10
I'm not kidding, this is hands down the best guitar value ever. I know, I know: I read that a lot too, which has left me dissapointed a few times. At least you owe yourself to try them at the store if they have it. The guitar sounds way more expensive than what it actually goes for. I'm already looking forward to trying out the more expensive ones. This Seagull comes real close to the guitar I'm looking to stick with forever and not have to worry about playing it or retiring it. Right now I'm playing an American Strat, Jazzmaster w/ Dimarzio humbuckers, 60's Gibson j 45 w/ rare earth pickup (selling it because I don't want to worry about breaking it and I can't afford to have guitar for looks), 12 string epiphone, and have had numerous others including Strats, Teles, Epiphone Sheraton II, Gibson copies, etc. Have been playing guitar for 15 or 16 years; done the record contract and working on another one; many tours all over the US. I'm not a novice, so listen to me: THIS GUITAR IS GREAT FOR THE VALUE. GO TO YOUR GUITAR STORE AND TRY ONE!!!

Cedar top, cherry laminate sides and back, hand made in canada with love. No frills, but everything is top quality.

Sound : 10
For the money nothing tops the seagull line of acoustic guitars, period. I play all kinds of music with this guitar, from blues and rock to bluegrass and jazz. Everything sounds great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is perfect as far as I'm concerned, the intonation is great and it always stays in tune.

Reliability/Durability : 9
very dependable guitar, the finish is a bit light but it seems to last and I like the minimalistic look it has.

Customer Support : 10
never dealt with them but they get a 10 for making guitars with such love and basically giving them away.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 10 years, I play mostly jazz on acoustic electric guitars. My main axe is a semi hollowbody paul reed smith, I also have an SG standard and an old gibson byrdland archtop. After hearing a friends seagull I sold my martin acoustic and used the proceeds to buy the PRS semihollow body and the seagull. One of the best investments I've made in my opinion, the PRS is a dream and the seagull is fantastic for when I feel like playing the acoustic. It sounds almost as good as my old martin and better than any of the new lower end martin or taylor guitars I've heard. You can not go wrong with this guitar, it is worth much more than they charge!

Features : 8
The guitar is brand new, made as all Seagul guitars in Quebec. It has a 14-fret Rosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge, Solid Cedar top, laminated Wild Cherry sides, and minimal binding, rosette, and inlay. There's no pickup. Very, VERY fine satin finish, Dreadnought body. The bridge compensates 4 times. The dealer threw in a strap, pack of picks, and installed a strap button to the neck for free. all in all, the design of the guitar, as far as looks are concerned anyway, is pretty minimalistic. Every dollar spent on it went into quality materials and craftsmanship.

Sound : 9
I play a lot of heavy rhythm, with a bit of fingerstyle thrown in a la Dave Matthews. This guitar absolutely suits that style. What everybody says about the lows on this thing is true: This guitar is a cannon! Especially in drop D, like "Don't Drink the Water" (you can tell I'm a big DMB fan by now...), the bass is absolutely huge and full. It's loud. Overall, I've fallen in love with the way this guitar sounds. I've compared it to a 60's Martin Dreadnought in great condition that my friend owns, and although not equal, the sound quality is comparable, especially in the lows (not to say the mids and highs aren't there, because they are, they're just don't come through quite as well as the lows).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I took off the Bronze strings that came with it and restrung it to Medium Gauge D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings. With higher gauge strings, higher than average action, and just being an overall tightly strung guitar (like a Martin), this guitar is not the easiest to play. However, it intonates very well. The top, sides, and back were all bookmatched properly, even though the seam on the back bookmatching wasn't even bound. With so many guitars these days that are bound this way to make them look bookmatched when they aren't, this shows where Seagull's priorities lie: making a guitar with quality sound, period. No fancy non-essentials, just the best sonic bang for the buck. It wasn't flawed in any way.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Taken proper care of, this guitar should last on into the years. The finish is actually quite thin, but doesn't really seem to wear much. The strap buttons are solid, and the hardware seems to be of nice quality. It's only minimally bound, and not hardly glossed at all, so exceptional care should be taken with it, but hey; that's all guitars, right? just don't ding or bang it around, and keep it cleaned and maintained. All should be fine beyond that.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with the company yet, so I can't really review this one, however I've heard negative things about Seagull's Customer Support in the past. It has a 2 year limited warranty.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing about nonstop for about a year and a half now. This is my first real Guitar, unless you count that 60 dollar piece of crap classical from CostCo; I've borrowed Taylors, Martins, Epiphones, and Alvarez's up until now. I'm very happy with it; if it were stolen or lost, I'd buy it again. I love the smokey, warm sound, and actually also like the minimal appearance. I showed it to a friend of mine who's played for a long while and currently owns a taylor. He played it for a little while and said, "Wow Walt, this sounds really good. You payed about 6 or 7 hundred for it, right?" I replied, "No way... I only dropped 3." His jaw dropped. He actually patted me on the back and congratulated me on finding such a deal.

Features : 9
This beauty is from LaPatrie, Quebec, Canada. I guess mine is a 2001, since I got it that in May of 2001... It has a cedar top, which is VERY soft, meaning I've dented it in places. It is completely acoustic, so there are no electronics. It is quite loud on its own though, so it would be very easy to mike. The neck is a little wider than I am used to, but that makes me stretch out a bit more, which improves my playing in the long run anyway. The tuners are covered with a Seagull logo on them. There are 21 frets, but due to the lack of a cutaway, only 14 are playable, resulting in the score of 9, instead of 10.

Sound : 8
I play a lot of rock, but I wanted to be able to play some of the quieter stuff I listen to also (Tragically Hip among others), so an acoustic was naturally the way to go. Since there are no internal electronics, and I don't gig (yet) I have no effects or amplificaton for it, but since it is quite loud, I'm sure I could mic it very easily. The high end of the scale doesn't sustain very well, but the low end has a lot of punch, this guitar is built for strumming and playing chords, not soloing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I haven't had to play around with the settings too much, I used the stock strings, and I have replaced them with the same style. As far as I can tell (I'm no expert on acoustics), there are no problems with anything.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The unfinished top will scratch easily, so my guess is that it will sound fine, but look a little old in a couple of years. Everything else looks like it will last forever. I might gig with it (as I said, I don't gig yet). The strap button (there is only one) is rock solid, and while it isn't huge, the strap shouldn't fall off.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with em.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for about 2 1/2 years. I also have a Yamaha AEX520 electric, and craptacular Fender Squier Strat. My amp is a Fender Blues Junior, I have a couple of effects, but nothing I'd want to use with an acoustic, if I ever need to amplify it... If I lost this, or it got stolen, I think I'd probably buy a new one, they are great value, and I think overall the sound is great, it was exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I wish I had done would be to get this in the cutaway version, so I could have access to the upper frets.

Features : 9
2002 S6+ Solid Cedar top model. Laminated Cherry sides and back. Neck
is maple, and fretboard and bridge are Maple. Nut and saddle are Micarta. One strap peg, but that only makes sense. Some may prefer to
have the strap attached to the headstock, others prefer the heel.
Tuners are VERY smooth closed types, with snazzy Seagull logo. Unlike
earlier models, these don't have a set screw on the back. I suppose
that's fine: six less holes in the headstock. Fretboard has standard
inlay dots at 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th frets. The unbound fingerboard sides have dots marking these frets EXCEPT at the third fret. Decal rosette looks fine, and serves little purpose. Pick guard
seems just right. The body only has binding on the top, and the back
is NOT bound. I suppose that's what to expect from an acoustic, but
I'll give it a 9 due to the unbound back.

Sound : 9
HMMMMMM...When I bought this guitar, I had a Martin D 16GT in hand.
I asked the salesman about Seagulls, and he heartuily recommended
I try one. I looked at the S6+ Folk model, and liked the fit and sound
when played alone, but the Martin left it in the dust when played together. A quick trip to the back room produced a just arrived S6+
Cedar (full size), and after a quick tuning, the gap between the Martin and the Seagull closed dramatically. The Martin had a more
crisp sound, but the Seagull had much more warmth. Using a digital
tuner, every fret position was checked and all played true. Chords
have a nice separation, but blend better than the Folk model. I
replaced the stock strings with D'darrio EJ16 lights, but didn't
notice much difference. W/O a pick, the treble strings lack volume and
tone: maybe something inherent with Cedar tops. If I dig a little, the
tone and volume improve enough that's it's not a problem. WITH a pick,
it's louder than my neighbor's might like :-) !!! I had bought an
Ibanez Artwood 10 prior to this, and it's sound was MUCH thinner and
had much less volume. Actually, I'm a bit of a freak, and I went through SIX(!!!) of the Artwood 10's before finally abandoning them all together.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
From the box(case), the action was medium low. The saddle was fine,
but I filed the nut on the high E and B string to lower the action on
that end a bit. The nut is not radiused to match the fretboard, so I
took care of that as well. pretty quick and simple. Makes playing MUCH
easier on the fingers. The nut is made of a sufficiently hard plastic.
The nut on the Ibanez Artwood flaked away as the wound strings were tuned!!!!!!!! The neck had textbook relief, and was fitted perfectly to the body (NO GAPS). The quality of wood used on the neck was perfect. The soundboard was SO well bookmatched that the seam is invisible!! I've had the guitar for close to a month, and I believe
I know where the seam is (or should be), but it's still invisible.
the sides match perfectly at the seams, and the back is also bookmatched. NO FLAWS IN ANY OF THE WOODWORK. I was a little put off
by the satin finish, but my friends LOVED it imediately. I would have
preferred more gloss on the sides and back, and MIGHT try my hand at that. Being a FREAK, the insides were examined with a mirror and flashlight. Everything was attached securely, and finished very well.
The were a couple of glue drops that had been squeezed out from the
bracing: they were very small, AND I feel better knowing that enough
adhesive was used. The sound board has a gentle arch, with NO DIPS.
ALL of the Ibanez Artwoods suffered from drop top, and/or dips that
could easily be measured when a sraight edge was placed across the
soundboard.

FRETS: The jury is still out on this one. Seagull frets have a bit
of a flat top, and aren't crowned like Martins. I contacted Seagull
about this, and they said it was by design, and "is one of the reasons
the action feels so smooth". Notes are easily bent, and it doesn't
buzz, but I can't help but wonder if this is a cost-cutting design.
It seems that Seagulls Artist series have the same flat top frets.

The bridge is perfectly centered, and robust enough. ALL of the Ibanez
Artwoods had bridges that were lifting on the ends: a dollar bill
would slide EASILY about 3/4" under the Ibanez bridges!!!!!! The
saddle is angled and compensated. A couple of the strings are cutting into the saddle, likely because the is almost a knife edge radius at
the top of the compensated saddle. The bridge pins fit well enough that they can be removed with fingers alone. There are no relief slots
cut into the bridge at the pin holes. With the supplied pins, there is
no problem fitting the bass strings in the bridge. This is a tough one
as far as scoring!!! Everything was fit perfectly, but the saddle is
probably going to be replaced with something better. I'll still give it a 10!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Well, I'm LIVE every time I play, sooo<GRIN>...... I've worked as a
fine artist for the last decade of my 40 years. I also worked as a
cabinet maker and finish carpenter for MANY years after college (it
takes a while for art to pay<G>). I can't see ANYTHING on this guitar
that wouldn't stand the test of time. A fine piece of wood is easily
recognizable, and this guitar is assembled with nothing but fine wood.
I reached into the soundhole, and gave all the braces a wiggle: all
were firmly attached. The three layer cherry laminate should last
forever. The strap button is chromed metal, and screwed in place. I
tried to turn the screw, but it was pretty tight. I left well enough alone. The soundboard is flawless.

Customer Support : 10
I did email Seagull about the fret crowning. They responded within a
week. The email was about a paragraph long, and answered the question
asked, Good enough so far.

Overall Rating : 10
I played twenty years ago, but took a LONG hiatus when I began college. I also play clarinet (thirty years!), and a bit of chromatic
and diatonic harmonica.

Tom from Medley Music answered all of my questions about Seagulls, and
actually recommended it over the Martin I was going to buy! Not because it was a better guitar, but because it was more bang for the buck. I also liked the wider spacing of the Seagull, although the
Martin played very easily as well. The seagull was balanced MUCH
better than the Martin, as the Martin's neck was very heavy. The
Martin D 16GT has a Micarta fingerboard, and I suppose that is the
reason for the neck weight. I've already discussed the made in China
Ibanez's.....BTW, I tried some Artwood 100's as well (made in Korea),
and while they suffered less drop top and warps, the sound was still
thin and lacked volume.

Lost or Stolen: Well, I'm thinking about buying a couple more Seagulls!!! For the price, there's nothing else that I've seen, and
I LOOKED A LOT. In the price range, I looked at Takamine (HIGH action
and a bit rough), Ibanez already dismissed, Yamaha's lacked volume,
Fender (least volume of all). The Martins were nice, but I can buy
two Seagull for the price of Martin's bottom end stuff!

LOVE/HATE: Well, it's certainly constructed well, and I'd suppose that
slave labor was NOT used. I just couldn't get my groove thing going
with a guitar made by somebody that probably didn't care whether they
were making sneakers or guitars, or worse, child labor. I understand that things are tough in third world/developing nations, but why not
support Canadians<G>! Sound, quality, and country of origin all contributed to my decision. I looked at the S6+ Spruce as well, but
the sound was much thinner than the Cedar model.

I would like some gloss on the sides and back, but the satin finish
is fine on the soundboard. It's odd to get a North American made
instrument for LESS than an Asian made guitar, but you'll get over that<GRIN>!

I like this LaSiDo stuff! I recently visited another shop that carries
LaSiDo's La patrie classical guitars. THESE ARE FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! I
tried a couple of $400 Yamaha, takamine classicals, and the La Patrie
makes tem sound like garbage. REALLY!!!!! The la Patrie classical is
very similar to the Seagull, and the sound quality is exceptional. I
would have bought the La Patrie a couple days ago, but it was hard to
imagine such a fine sounding guitar for only $250!!!!! I've recoverd
from my disbelief<G>, and will likely buy the La Patrie tommorow.

People pretty much covered it below. Notable things: the solid-cedar top is definitely soft and the neck a little wider than normal. I'll give it an 8 in this category. For its intended purpose and price, it leaves nothing to be desired.

Sound : 8
I definitely liked the sound of this guitar, especially for the price. I compared it to a Martin DM and a Martin D-15. The DM was eliminated b/c it cost too much for the sound it gave. The D-15 was definitely in a league above the Seagull (in terms of sound), but for double the price. The Seagull is a very warm-sounding guitar. The lower strings just sing. The upper E string though doesn't really vibrate much though. It plays the note, but don't expect it to linger in the air like the lower strings do. If you're looking for that bright, solid-spruce sound, look elsewhere. This guitar excels in producing a warm tone that's pretty-well balanced. In comparison, the D-15 was kind of like the Seagull, but with more sound from the low E and the high E strings, and the overall sound was more clear as well. For the price though, the Seagull is a great value IMO.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is a little high from the factory (from what I'm used to). I didn't notice any flaws in the build quality.

Reliability/Durability : 6
The cedar-top is very easy to scratch. I've been careful with it so far, but I can definitely tell it'll dent/ding easily. I think the trade-off is worth it though IMO.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with customer service. Only a 2 year warranty though.

Overall Rating : 9
If this guitar were stolen, I would buy it again. There's really nothing else I've heard in this price range that gives this warm of a sound (which is definite plus IMO). The guitar could be a little more clear (especially the high E string) but I'm very satisfied.

Bought it brand new. I believe it was made in 2002. Pretty simple in looks. It has a solid cedar top, cherry back & sides, silver leaf maple neck & indian rosewood fretboard. 14 playable frets 21 total. As I mentioned it is pretty simple looking but I know a lot of guitars that are honey dipped pieces of crap. They can have all the fancy pearl inlays & pretty sound hole rosette but when you play it you might as well have a 2x4 with strings nailed on it. The S6 is different in many ways. I saw this guitar at a local music store. I had my mind set on getting a Washburn d10 but I absoultly fell in love with this guitar. It was so light when I picked it up it kind of reminded me of a Taylor Big Baby a friend of mine has, with its no finished look. I do like a guitar to be fancy but I think the S6 is ok the way it is.

Sound : 10
This is why the S6 dosent need any fancy inlays. The sound totally makes up for it. When I first got it I noticed the the action was a little high on it. So I took it to Keepers Music in Ames, IA. If you are ever in the neighborhood I recommend going to these guys they are really good at what they do. I have been playing for a little over 3 years and I play alot of Bob Dylan, Beatles, Pink Floyd, anything classic rock I love to play a lot of rhythm. This guitar seems to fit the bill with most everything I want to play. My friend has a old Alvarez and with my old acoustic guitar his would always drown me out. With the seagull it is at the perfect volume not to bright & loud, it's just right. The bass strings are nice and boomy and the treble is just bright enough to play lead if you really want to.
My brother has a Martin D15 and really love the sound of a all mahogany constructed guitar but I was not willing to pay $600 for a guitar just yet. I think I made a wise choice with this guitar. Besides, when you buy a Martin, Taylor or Gibson I understand that the are great instruments but I think most of the time you are paying more for the name. If the S6 had a Martin name on it it would probably be twice as much for what I paid for it. I think as far as the price catagory for this guitar I think the sound is excellent!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Like I said before, the action was a little high for me so I had that taking care of right away. After that it was perfect. I also had to put a set of my favorite strings on. I like using Elixir custom lights with the poly web coating. They are a little more expensive then your typical D'Addario's but I tried the Elixirs once and loved them and they seem to last longer too. It has a compensated saddle which is real nice considering most guitars use a plastic piece of crap with slots cut in it for the string to fit in. I think the saddle makes a big difference in the way a guitar sounds my friend has a bone saddle put on and it made a big difference for him.
I could not detect any other flaws on this guitar. The back was bookmatched perfectly. There wasn't any big globs of excess glue anywhere like some guitars I looked at. I think Seagull take great pride in what they make and they did a wonderful job constructing this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar seems to be pretty fragile to me. With cedar being such a softer wood compared to spruce or mahogany and the finish is so light it can ding really easy but I am not one to beat up and throw around guitars so I think it will be ok. It would probably have to take a pretty big blow to crack the wood or seriously damage it. I probably wouldnt play a gig without a backup but I dont care what guitar you have you should always play with some sort of a backup.
It stays in tune really good. It looks like it has Grover or Schaller mini tuners but each one has the seagull logo on the back. Nevertheless it stays in tune all the time. The one thing I really didnt like was the shape of the headstock. I thought it was really ugly at first but if it helps keep it in tune as well as it does it dosent matter to me anymore. It only has one strap button which is a big problem with alot of people but it isnt really expensive to just add another on the heal of the neck. I think all around this guitar is built pretty solid and it should last me the rest of my life if I really take care of it.

Customer Support : 8
It comes with a 2 year warrenty. It kind of bothers me a little considering most good brand name guitars come with a lifetime warranty but I doubt this guitar is going to fail me one day after my 2 year warrenty is up.
I never had to deal with them yet but what I have heard they stand behind their guitars and like I said I think this guitar is going to last me forever.

Overall Rating : 10
Like I said before I have been playing for a little over three years so my experience isnt as great as others might be but I have done a lot of research on this guitar and went to alot of music stores trying out different models and this is the one that best suit my needs in playing the music I like.
I would probably look into getting a seagull acoustic/electric cutaway if this one was evey stolen but it dosent mean that I wouldnt be pissed off if it was stolen in the first place. The one thing I really love about this guitar is that it is so light and a all around great sounding instrument for the price. I recommend this guitar to anyone who is just starting out and wants a guitar that has a $800 sound with a $300 price tag. I have known a few people that get a $90 piece of garbage with a partical board top and cardbord sides and back with a chunk of bamboo for the neck and they just lose interest in playing because even when they do play it right it still sounds like crap. This guitar might be a little bit expensive for someone who has never picked a guitar up in their life but it makes learning so much more fun when playing with seagull's S series guitars. Once I pick it up it is really hard to put it back down. I tip my hat the Seagull guitar company I think they really should be proud of their product. I know I am proud of having one.

Basic S6+ as descibed elsewhere. What do you want, it's a basic acoustic guitar. If you want more your looking at the wrong reviews.

Sound : 10
I have several electrics. The one acoustic that I had was crap so I never played it. I decided that I should invest in a decent acoustic & play it. I don't like to over-pay, so I sought out the opinion of very good semi-pro acoustic player that I know. He has had a (more expensive) Seagull for a long time. He told me to take my time, start with the Orient products, look at some name product (eg Washburn), and lastly look at LADO & SEAGULL. He was confident that I would like the last two best. So that's what I did. When I got to the LADO's, I almost bought one on the spot. I resisted, & went to another store to try out the Seagull's. I was most interested in the M series spruce top when I went in, but that S6 whispered my name from it's place on the wall. I tried the M series first, then an S6 Cedar, and finally the S6 spruce. From the first chord, I knew that this was the one. It also happened that there was someone in my way to the Seagulls. Turned out to be a well known local musician. Seeing that I was looking at the Seagulls (he was playing one as we talked) he offered his opinion that I was looking at the best value for the dollar in the store. He had me at that point but went on to say that if I played the Seagull for a while, then went over to the Martin's & Taylor's and played them, I'd be hard pressed to hear the difference. Damn if he wasn't right. Might be he figured me for a rube, but I really thought that the Seagull stood up sonically with the other guys at 5 times the cost. I haven't changed my mind. Fastest sale the salesman ever made.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
After a period of living with this beauty I found a minute flaw in the finish on the back of the neck, so I can't give it a perfect score. But it's damn close.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Everything seems to be first rate & as I said, I know someone who's had one for over 10 years & it has been a joy for him.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A. Don't expect to have to find out.

Overall Rating : 10
As I said, I am a bargain hunter, & the Seagull ranks at the top of my list, including my Gibson SG & GL S-500.

The appointments are pretty basic (no electronics) but everything is executed perfectly. Great tuners, finish, etc.

Sound : 10
The sound on this things is absolutely gorgeous. I play everything from light fingerpicking to heavy strumming and this guitar handles everything beautifully. The guitar has a great dynamic range. Pick a string delicately and it's glassy and mellow, but it perks right up when you dig in. I won't blame you for being skeptical of all these glowing descriptions, but give these guitars a listen and you'll agree, I'm sure. After hearing this guitar, people have honestly offered to trade it for $1500 guitars!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up marvelously out of the factory, with smooth, medium-to-low action. Visually, the top is a knockout, bookmatched perfectly, with a light, even gloss. Worksmanship is solid throughout.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've been playing this for going on six years, and it sounds better every day. Like any acoustic, you DO need to take care of it - keep it in the case and oil it every so often so it doesn't dry out. After you hear it, you'll WANT to be good to this guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it, but I'd generally expect good things from a smaller company like this.

Overall Rating : 10
If it were stolen or lost, I'd be heart-broken, but I'd buy another! I love the complex, versatile sounds of this guitar and it's stellar playability. At a price like this, you'd be crazy to ignore Seagulls.

Features : 9
the seagull s6+ is a fairly straightforward acoustic guitar. it has a solid cedar top, wild cherry back and sides, and a rosewood bridge and fingerboard. according to the company, the neck is rock maple, but it looks a lot like mahogany to me. i have the cutaway version with the l.r. baggs micro-eq electronics. it has a satin finish, which lets the top resonate better than a gloss finish would. however, it offers less protection for the wood. the tuners are smooth and the guitar always stays in tune. a compensated bridge keeps the intonation accurate most of the way up the neck. the neck is fairly wide and the action medium-high, but the guitar just makes you want to play.

Sound : 10
unplugged, the guitar has a huge, wide sound with just the right amount of brightness. the cedar top has sweetened up nicely over the last year-and-a-half...the guitar just keeps getting better and better. plugged in, it sounds almost as good. the l.r.baggs pickup sounds quiet and natural...basically the same as unplugged, only louder. the controls are simple (just bass, treble, and volume) but that is all this guitar needs. getting a sweet tone through the p.a. is a snap. i use this guitar for folky-guy-sitting-on-a-stool-in-the-corner gigs, mostly stumming open chords and some very minor fingerpicking. i vary dynamics quite a bit and the guitar responds great to subtle melodic lines or heavy strumming quite well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
the action was higher than i would have liked, but i adjusted the truss rod and it plays much better now. the strings are spaces widely apart, thanks to the wide neck, so clumsy players, like myself, are given some leeway on difficult chord fingerings. the frets are a little small, and the fretboard doesn't seem perfectly level past the 15th fret, but who plays up there anyway? the finish feels nice under the fingers, not sticky. the wood also looks more natural without a layer of polyurethane over it. the body shape is slightly different than most guitars, which caught my in the store.

Reliability/Durability : 8
the guitar is made with some nice wood and was put together quite well. it looks like the nut, the bridge, the tuners, and the end pin are quality parts, and installed properly. i would, and do, use this guitar on gigs with no backup. but, it is an acoustic guitar, so i wouldn't use it as a footstool, or a jack-stand for my car. if i hit an intruder over the head with it, it would probably break...and irritate the intruder. my dog jumped on it and put two nice dings in the top, but nothing bad structurally occurred.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
all my previous guitars are no longer with me...my sister took her epiphone back...my brother sold my yamaha for drugs...my ex got the arch-top in the divorce...i do still have my electrics (a strat and a guild), three basses (two fenders and a carvin) and assorted amplifiers. but i was lacking that acoustic. i originally was looking for an older guild, but this guitar sounded as good as a friend's 25 year old guild. i wish it played a little more like it, but for the money, who cares? besides, drunk people are always insisting on grabbing it, and my dog is waiting for me to leave it unprotected just one more time.

Features : 7
I bought this guitar back in 1998. I checked quite a few in my hunt, including Martins, Ibanez's and Matons. Out of all the guitars I looked at, it seemed like the best one for the price. Standard dreadnought shape, no electronics, cherrywood laminate back and sides, solid cedar top (a big plus when you're looking for an instrument that will last a long time) and standard seagull tuners. Now that I've had it for a good number of years I can reflect back on the instrument and note a few gripes -

The neck is ultra fat for an acoustic. I've played a couple of K. Yairi's and Matons and the neck on the S6 seems uncomfortably huge. I'm a rhythm guitarist and sometimes the strain of playing bar chords can be a little too much.

One strap button. I've noticed a few companies doing this as well. If you're gonna put one on, why not put the other on?

Other than that, its a very good instrument for the price - solid tops are a big plus, nice fretwork and overall well constructed.

Sound : 7
Being straight acoustic and a rhythm guitarist to boot, I'd have liked the guiatr to be a touch louder. The tone is very well-rounded and mellow; not too much high bt plenty of lows and mids. Appregios can be a bit of a hassle with the wider fingerboard, but for singer/songwriters its a nice little instrument to pick up and play.

Note to everyone - The guitar can get very dirty quickly if you don't spend some time cleaning it (much to my embarassment)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action was perfect when I got it - I'm not Steve Vai, so the strings weren't completely flat against the board which adds volume to the guitar. The bridge was properly routed, the frets nicely crowned and the finish flawless. However, after playing it for a few years I noticed a buzzing on the low E - the guys at the music shop tell me it could be a manufacturing fault. I've also noticed a crack on the back of the neck where the headstock meets the neck. I can't say for sure whether its a surface thing or seriously structural.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I've played a couple of solo gigs on it and its always been quite solid - the hardware still runs smoothly and there hasn't been any major problems (until the buzzing) with it since I've had it. Since I bang it around a lot it seems very durable, and the scratches and bumps have been more my fault than anything. Anyone who's been reading this from the top knows my opinion on the strap buttons. 'Nuff said. I wouldn't go gigging with this guitar simply because I think a cutaway with a pickup would suit a live audience more. The Seagulls more of a pick up and play at home instrument.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing for about 5 years, just strumming and doing the singer/songwriter thing. I've been happy with my purchase, but as I've improved I think its time to move on. Would I buy another one? Probably not, simply because of the neck and the lack of a lifetime warranty for the product. I'd definitely recommend it to people just starting out though - a solid top, handmade acoustic is not something to walk by, especially when a laminate would cost only a few hundred less. I originally chose this because it was (and still is) a good buy.

This guitar is handmade in Canada,eh! Just picked it up today. Traded my Epiphone PR335CE and my Peavey Audition 30 amp(both used)for this guitar. I have tried so many guitars in the last six months(Epiphone,Gibson,Yamaha,Fender,Washburn)but this one will do it for me. Extremely well made, cedar top, laminated back and sides. Very solid.

Sound : 10
I like to play anything from Bob Dylan to Bob Seger, Eagles to Beatles. Easy strumming music. Mostly open chords, nothing fancy. I have played off and on for 40 years, rock bands in high school, jamming with the guys in recent years. This Seagull is the type of guitar that you just pick up and start playing and playing and playing! It will play whatever sound you want.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Right out of the box, the action was great, the set up perfect. I cannot believe the workmanship on this guitar. I played it for two hours, checking for burrs on the frets, poor finish, bad bookmatch. NOTHING! I think this guitar can hold it's own against any guitar when it comes to quality. And made in North America to boot!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will only get better with age. For the gigs I will play, I will depend on this guitar more than myself. Time will tell if the finish will last. I'll send in another review in 20 years or so. This one came with only one strap button but I will put another one on.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have only had this guitar for a few hours but I am sure when you get this quality you get the service behind it.

Overall Rating : 10
I started playing at 14 and I'm playing again at 54 after an absence of about 20 years. I have owned many guitars over the years (Fender, Gibson, Rickenbaker, Epiphone, Silvertone{my first guitar} and Yamaha) and all have passed on to better things except my 1966 Yamaha. I wanted a guitar that I could just pick up and play, no amps,no mics, just play. After looking at guitars for the past 6 months and playing lots of them, I picked up the Seagull and that was that. Looks great, sounds great. The neck is a little wider than most and very forgiving to people like me who are a little rusty after not playing for a while.

Mahogany Back & Sides, Semi-Gloss Lacquer Finish, Mahogany Neck, Indian Rosewood Fingerboard & Bridge, Solid Cedar Top
I bought a soft case for an additional $30 and they tossed in some free picks and strings.

Sound : 10
The sound is brillant and yet has a nice low mellow tone. I played lots of different guitars at the shop and even some $1,000 ones and this seagull guitar sounded better then them all. I play all sorts of different music.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action was perfect, not to low and not high. No complaints.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The finish is pretty thin. It's almost like straight wood but the sound makes up for it. I've only had it a short time so we'll see how well it stands up to abuse.

I also play a Gibson/Epiphone electric through a Marshall amp. Small recording setup with guitar processor, mackie mixer, pedals, which goes into a PC running N-track studio.
I just love the sound. The 3 low strings play nice and low and the three high strings seem to be louder and brillant. I love the sound! I tried seagulls other guitars and prefer the cedar over other woods.

Bought new. Made in Canada. Solid cedar top, laminate cherrywood back and sides. No pickup but I installed a K&K Pure Western pickup. Compensated saddle. Plain looks (but that's a plus). Tuners have the Seagull logo and seem to work smoothly and stay in tune. No case included but I got one from zZounds when they were closing out Seagulls.

Sound : 10
I tried a lot of different guitars before going with this. It was down to this one, a Martin D15, a Larrivee, or a Tacoma. I was trying to keep things under $700 and the Seagull came in WAY under. The sound was everything I was looking for. Fortunately, I was able to try all the guitars out and finally this one spoke to me. I almost bought one over the net but I am glad it didn't work out. There can be subtle differences from guitar to guitar that a person just has to experience themselves. No glowing descriptions or yuppy testimonies can take the place of playing the darned thing. Don't get caught up in headstock envy--go for quality and value. Sure, the big names have a lot of quality on a large scale basis but there are a lot of small-scale quality operations out there like La Si Do, maker of Seagulls and Normans, Simon and Patrick and Art and Lutherie. Support small businesses!

Anyway, the sound is rich and articulate and heavy strums have just the right amount of compression (for me). No fret buzzes or rattles, no dead spots or intonation problems. It's great all the way up the neck. Capo stays in tune as well. The satin finish goes well with the warm, rich look of the cedar. Smells good, too.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Like I said earlier, the action is great. Fretwork is excellent. When I was looking at acoustics, I picked up a Guild at a GC that had such rough fret ends you could draw blood--plus it sounded dull and lifeless. Wood grain is a little rough here and there but not bothersome.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems well built. I don't thrash my instruments so it should be around for a long time. Stays in tune well and I would definitely depend on it. I plan to gig with it.

Customer Support : 10
They have responded to my emails within a day or so but I don't think I will need them.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 25 years. I also have a several electrics, numerous amps, an old Harmony, an old Stella, some Tech 21 amps and a Djembe. I would definitely buy another Seagull. My favorite features are its sound and playability.

I purchased my year 2000 Seagull S6+ Cedar in early 2001. It
was made in Patrie, Quebec. It has a solid Cedar top with
Wild Cherry laminated sides and back. The sides and back were
stained to look like mahogony. The neck is solid Silver
Leaf Maple with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Satin finish
with a dreadnought body style. A very nice looking guitar.

Sound : 9
The solid Cedar top gives it a very warm sound with a nice
vibration...it sounds good new, so it should only get
better with age. It has a rich and full sound with nice bass
that isn't overpowering and a nice high end that is clear
but not tinny. The original Godin strings sounded good, but
I like the sound of the newer Daddario Medium Phospher Bronze
strings I just put on a little better.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar was set up nicely right out of the box. The action
is nice...maybe just a tad high, but definitely comfortable to
play. I'm just getting back into playing after a long hiatus,
so I need to develop better hand strength and calluses anyway,
so I'll probably leave the action alone until my hands get
"broken in" a little more. The new Daddario strings I put on
helped a little in this area also.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The S6+ Cedar is a very well made guitar. It feels solid and like
it is put together well. There is no strap button up on the
neck area, so I'll have to add one later. I'll probably have
a friend who is a luthier do it for me. I think the Seagull's
are beautifully made guitars for the price. In fact, after doing
a lot of research, I believe the Seagull S6 series to be some of
the best acoustic guitars available in their price range.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never needed to contact customer support yet, so I
can't comment on their service or support. The guitar is
under a two year warranty and the guitar shop I purchased
it form has a good reputation for repairs and service on
Seagull's and other guitars.

Overall Rating : 9
I played guitar many years ago, but gave it up after my last
guitar was damaged. I am just getting back into trying to play
regularly. I didn't want to spend a great deal on a new guitar
until I see if I will play more. The Seagull S6+ Cedar was
recommended by a friend who is a musician and guitar aficiando.
He said that he prefers Martins, but Seagull's are his next choice.
He found me the Seagull at a local guitar shop. It was a new
guitar, but it was a 'B' stock discount due to a minor ding on the
back. The price was a real deal for a guitar as well made and
rich sounding as the Seagull S6. I highly recommend this guitar
as a high quality, yet low priced, entry level acoustic guitar.

Not really any features. It's an accoustic. But the bookmatching is cool, the bridge bone, and nut are made of reqal bone from what i can tell... makes for an awsome sound. NO second nut for a strap. but not a big deal i can install that myself in 5 minutes. (Acctually i'll leave that to the guy who installs my fishman pickup next week. I'm not taking chances with this baby)

Sound : 9
I play anything from folk, o blues, to rock... This thing has a great rich tone and very light feel to it. It sounds great. Anything from a mellow tone, great for finger picking, to a crisp clean strumming and picking sound. I love it. It compares very easily to more expensive guitars (however i must say that if you want a Taylor sound, buy a Taylor)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great action. Bookmatching on mine is awsome, Attention to deatail is evident. The matte finish really grabs me (i love it on an accoustic) very comfortable to play. Machine heads are al consistant and smooth.

i own 4 guitars now. I have a Vantage electric an older bass, Fender and Peavy amps.
I really enjoy playing this guitar. the sound adds that much more to my music, and it so comfortable. It's brought back my love for playing. I'd buy it again anyday. I think it looks great, sounds good, and feels good. the only thing i wish for is that they'd add another nut for a strap! The guitars are handmade in canada, and that why i think i paid less for it here then in the US. These guys turn out quality, and i've yet to find a flaw in construction (Besides, flaws in handmade work add charicter to the guitar!)

This is a 2000 model Seagull S6+ Cedar. It was handcrafted in Canada. I absolutely fell in love with the solid cedar top. As soon as I opened the case, my entire house smelled like cedar. The guitar has the stained wild cherry sides and back with the big leaf maple neck. Nothing fancy but everything is of the highest quality. The tuners are non-locking but are very high quality. The neck is wider than standard which actually improves the playability. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is the lack of any inlay work.

Sound : 10
I have played everything from cheap Ibanez "Performance" acoustics to upper level Taylors and the sound of the Seagull is awesome. It definately holds it own against guitars in the $1000 to $1500 price range. The sound is natural and has a lot of depth.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
While each guitar that leaves a factory will be set up slightly different, my Seagull was set up beautifully from the factor. The action is incredibly low without any buzz. I found the playability more enjoyable that the few Taylors that I played. The finish was great and I looked for days and could not find a single flaw. Great work

Reliability/Durability : 8
The finish on this guitar is very thin but I think this contributes to the depth of sound. I would not be careless with this guitar because I don;t think the finish can withstand much (if any) abuse. It sings like an angel but is just as delicate.

I have been playing guitar for 16 years. I've played guitars from most manufacturers and I have never been as awe struck as I am with my Seagull. I have owned great electrics (Les Paul and Stratocaster) and some nice acoustics (Ovation Legend and a backup Yamaha) but the Seagull reminds me why I love to play. If I had $1000 to spend on an acoustic, I'd buy three Seagulls.

Excellent sound. I passed these guitars up for a cheaper make and model. But for a week the sound of the Seagull kept coming back to me, I took the other guitar back, and visited the local Seagull dealer again.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This is a beautiful music instrument. I got mine new out of the box and it hadn't been touched by any one except me so far. The finish great, the dark cherry colored back looks great. The tuners work like they should. This is a hand made guitar, for around $300. The guality compared to other guitars in this price range is super.

I'm a beginner after a 25 year lay off. Didn't know much 25 years ago so I'm a beginner again. Live music: hmmmm this guitar is very light weight, plus the finish is very lightm, so easy to nick or mar. Hardware: seems fine, works great and should last. Strap button: only one... Hopefully no problems are instore for the future.

Customer Support : 7
My guitar is brand new, like 1 day old. So never had to contact the mfg. yet. Warranty: 2 years

Overall Rating : 10
Again I'm a beginner. I played a little 25 years ago. I purchased another brand guitar used and kept it 6 days. During my hunt for a guitar, I had tried out the Seagull. The great sound of the Seagull kept coming back to me after buying the other guitar. I finally took the other guitar back to the music store. I purchased the Seagull. I can tell you I plan on keeping this guitar. Its a great guitar at a very fair price. During my search for a guitar I had settle on the following 3 brands: Simon & Patrick, Washburn, and Seagull. The Seagull and S&P sound was similiar. The Washburn lacked... I had purchased the Washburn, because of price. I'm so happy I took it back for the Seagull.

Canadian hand made!!! Solid Cedar top/Laminated back and sides - only cost $400 and came with a hardshell case! Great quality for such a low price.

Sound : 10
Excellent sound. It's one of the most natural sounding guitars I have ever heard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Action was a little high for my preferences. Finish was wonderful. I'm not a huge "glossy guitar" fan, so I love the natural, almost burnish-type finish on this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
It scratches easily, due to the finish. The hardware is solid. Other than the finish, this guitar should last me the rest of my life.

It's a great guitar, especially for the price. It's also one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. The sound of this guitar contends with guitars that are much higher in price.

Made in La Patrie, Quebec and from what I can tell Canadians know how to construct a quality acoustic. Solid, tightly grained cedar top, wild cherry back and sides, & a maple neck. It has a satin finish which may sacrifice wear and tear but it definetely contributes to sound. Dreadnought body with a unique straight-pull headstock that means a lot less tuning. Tuners are made by the manufacturer and seem to be smooth and reliable. the neck is a little wider than normal, however I've found it easier to play. It came with a hardcase from the dealer. Very simple, but by no means lacking.

Sound : 10
I would not hesitate for a second to place this guitar's sound in the realm of a $1000+ axe. It has a tremendous amount of volume and balance. I play a mainly rhythm, with some fingerpicking thrown in. Folk, Classic Rock, etc.. This guitar seems to cater to that Folk/Coffee Shop sound a little better than jamming. It can do it, but has a great delicate tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I've been playing a Fender Strat with a horrible setup. At first strum this guitar seemed to have nice, low action without buzz. After about a month I'm starting to notice a buzz here and there. Nothing a setup won't take care of. You can not even tell this baby is bookmatched, excellent job. No flaws from the factory, these guys must really pay close attention to putting a good product out.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is built solid but I'm trying not to drop it and suffer the satin finish consequences. This was a sacrifice that was made to get this tremendous sound. It only came with one strap button. I am a recreational player so I don't have gig experience but I'd guess that it could handle a bit of abuse. I'd hesitate myself to throw it around, but it's not so expensive that I'd shelter it for life.

Customer Support : 8
I've only heard good things about the entire community of La Patrie, Quebec. Haven't had to deal with them yet. It came with a 2 year limited warranty and I've heard stories of good standing passed around about these guys.

Overall Rating : 10
I have played off and on for the past few years but am really digging in lately. I am in Alaska and hesitated to mail order a guitar without playing it first. Something about what everyone on the internet was saying about Seagull made me remain stuck on purchasing on of these guitars. I don't regret the choice at all, it is high quality throughout. Sound, oh man I have played some bigger names but this puts out equal or better tone. The only thing I would wish for is one of those cool ass larrivee inlays. Too bad, it's simple but extremely effective. Great value, even better guitar.

This is a new 1998 Guitar. Made in LaPatri Quebec Canada. It has 21 frets and a close grained cedar top that emits excellent sound.I purchased it without electronics because I am basically a folk guitarist. I like the unplugged sound and this guitar has wonderfull sound. Very balanced and with a very sweet crisp high range. The finish is satin rubbed and very thin. Part of the reason this guitar sounds so good. Body style is dreadnought, a bit smaller than standard, and has a good bass range for it's size. The tuners have the seagull logo embossed on them and seem to be of good quality. The neck is wider than standard but that's ok with me because I am a classical guitar player. I also own a La Patrie classical by Seagull and that is a awesome guitar. I traded in a guitar for my S6+ and kept it's case so I didn't need a case.

Sound : 10
The sound is rich and balanced. The best sound I have ever heard for a inexpensive guitar. Solid top guitars are expected to sound better than laminated top guitars but for the price I have never heard a better sound than this guitar emitts.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar had a better than normal factory setup. The action was a little high but that was quickly taken care of with a truss rod adjustment made by the dealer. The top is perfectly bookmatched and it is difficult to see the match line. Hardware is top rate and the inline tuners do help to keep the guitar in tune. The bridge, nut and saddle are of top quality and positioned as they should be in a hand made guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The top is very thin and care will have to be taken with this guitar as it gets older. It is solid built however with good craftmanship and should last a lifetime with proper care. Everything is solid and well made on this guitar. Yes I would use this guitar on a gig and have in fact done so.

Because my review is similar to others that have been submitted this section is the reason why I have posted another review. I had occassion to deal with La Patrie when I purchased one of their classical guitars, used, on consignment, from a custom shop in the Twin Cities. Hoffman Guitars. The guitar had a fret buzz that was caused by a bridge glue pocket that gave loose. A defect from the factory. I contacted La Patrie customer service and after two emails to the company they offered to give me a new guitar free of charge.I told them I buy guitars because I fall in love with the sound they make and that I did not want another guitar. They then offered to fix the guitar free of charge. I was given a return number and the address of their repair facility. My guitar is now like new and it never cost me a cent. What do I think of Seagull's customer? I have never seen better. Remember the guitar I bought was used!!!! They still stood behind it 100%. Part of the reason I bought my S6+ was because of my experience with Seagull's customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for 30 years. I also own a Garcia hand made classical guitar made in Spain, a La Patrie classical guitar made by Seagull and a Suzuki starter classical guitar made in Japan. If my S6+ were lost or stolen I would buy another one. The sound is it's best feature and after all that is what a instrument is all about. Sound !!! There is nothing about this guitar I hate. Oh, maybe, because it is a little smaller than the standard dreadnaught, it does not quite fit my case but that is the only thing I dislike about Seagull's guitar.

Number one feature, this guitar is handmade in North America and cost less than five hundred dollars. The solid cedar top has tight grains and a full sound. The neck is Big Leaf Maple, it is wider than your typical acoustic neck which in my opinion makes it more comfortable to play. The guitar has a satin lacquer finish than does not inhibit the sound or the colors of the wood. The back and sides are wild cherry which look good. The head set is tapered so that the pegs are in a straight line with the string as it comes off the nut. I've noticed that this help to keeps its tune longer.

Sound : 7
The sound is full and gutsy. The highs aren't so stong, which I like. Even bar chords sound full.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The bookmatch on the top is GREAT! The two halves are perfect matches. I haven't found any flaws or nicks in the finish or wood. The action right out of the box was pretty good, although there was a buzz on the A string. A quarter turn of the truss rod took care of that problem.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The satin finish is very thin, wether it will wear off or not I don't know. The tuning hardware is beefy. I would take this guitar to a gig without a back up. I think the solid cedar top will only allow the sound to get better.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't need customer support yet, but it seems like the company is down to earth.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 10 years and I like this guitar better than all the others I've played. It doesn't sound like a Martin but if I drop it, I'm not out $1500 either. I am very impressed with it so far. A handmade guitar for $350 is a great deal. Seagull is trying to build a customer base so their prices are extremely good for the quality of guitar they produce. If it was stolen I would probably buy the same guitar the next day. The cedar top stands out from the usual spruce tops, the cedar looks and sounds great. That guitar is worth twice what they ask for it.
