Gorgeous little straightforward number, smaller body with cherry back and sides, solid cedar top, slightly wider cherry neck, satin finish that is nonexistent by now. Mine has a pickguard and I'm not sure if it was added afterwards. I think my baby is very, very old.. I lucked out and got it for free, from a jam house that was under the impression it was a piece of **** (she wasn't lookin' too hot). I love the simplicity and all the room to gain character on top of all the character received with it. I'm someone who loves old things, hands down, and craftsmanship over flashy aesthetics, and this guitar was built with genuine quality in mind.

Sound : 10
The sound is warm and rich and confident, like a sultry tanned south american woman. I love everything about it, no buzz, balanced tone, bright and clear harmonics, and the combination with the wider neck is perfect for my contemporary fingerpicking style (or maybe I grew into the style because of the guitar). You can't learn Kaki King songs on any guitar. The action is nice and low, and because of the sensitiveness of the cedar I keep light strings on (though I would prefer medium) so it is a great guitar for classical and flamenco. The dynamic range never ceases to amaze me, and she booms when you need her to.
Anyone who has derived a bad opinion about the sound of this guitar has likely just neglected it. It is a very precious guitar, very delicate, certainly needs to be kept humidified, especially in the interior provinces. (They are made to sound the best in Quebec). I've had this guitar for nearly two years and have experienced a wide range of sound qualities come out of it. When I first acquired her, she was dry, dry, dry and I didn't know how to take care of her; because of her beat up look and strained sound I immediately took her on the road as a travel guitar. On an island on the west coast, she was dropped and the cedar top shattered in the bottom corner. Luckily the guy who dropped it was a musician and immediately loosened the strings - and then he glued her back together with wood glue, 2x4s and electrical tape. After that she sounded 200% better. I bought a humidifyer and she has been played steadily, handled lovingly, and I believe that contributes heavily to her amazing sound. These guitars love to be played.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I've had to have a few parts of the body reglued but it has proved rewarding. Since I received her for free and in rough shape I had no qualms about paying for some repairs. I believe she was built well, perfect even, though precious, and the damage was from years of neglect prior to my possession of her. I'm not sure how old she is but some people I've met on the road have said she might be up to 25 years. It certainly shows - she is worn in like a leathery desert man.

Reliability/Durability : 8
She is my one and only acoustic and I perform with her, and she's great, more than sufficient, meek is the last adjective that could describe her. It's irritating micing the guitar and sometimes I think about a pickup but do not want to risk it, and besides I adore her simplicity. After the recent bridge repair (a long-term result of the unprofessional gluejob) she is overall ready for years to come, traveling included.
The finish is abraded and she is perpetually gaining more nicks of experience and character, and I love it that way.
The strap button was not solid, I had to replace the screw but again that is from years of erosion before I owned her.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Both times I went to a local Winnipeg guitarcraftsman, once for the back paneling coming up last winter (I had been taking her out to open mics in -30) and recently for the bridge and X-braces under the cedar. It is not under warranty. He did an incredible job.
But I have heard great things about Seagull customer support. My father also owns a Seagull (and I have noticed the sound quality drop as he plays it less).

Overall Rating : 10
I love my guitar, so, much. Me encanta mi guitarra. She is my soulmate and perfect for my currently nomadic lifestyle and playing style, and the fact that she has a huge mystery of history is very exciting to me - I am adding to her legacy and will pass her on eventually, I believe in her endurance.
I don't know much about other brands of guitars but I am so very grateful that a Seagull fell into my life. I have played new ones in the store and they all sound great, that same warm, confident sound. The only other guitar I can put in the same category is the Takamine, although it of course has much more bass.
She meets lots of people and I get consistent compliments and questions.
I lucked out for sure! Tengo suerte.

Sound : 10
I can't understand how anybody could give this guitar a bad rating for sound. When I went shopping for a new guitar, I took a couple months and played every guitar I could find...including expensive Martin, Taylor and Guild guitars. This guitar blew all but the most expensive models costing thousands of dollars away. There is nothing "tinny" or weak about the tone. I may not be as deep sounding as a dreadnought guitar, but it wasn't meant to. It has a full bright sound to it and everybody I know, including other musicians comment to me on the great tone of this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up perfectly by the factory. It looks beautiful and plays like a dream.

Reliability/Durability : 7
The hardware is excellent. The tuners have a great feel to them and hold tune very well. The lack of lacquor on the body lends to easy scratching of the finish. The wood is pretty soft as well. This does serve to enhance the tone, though. I'd rather baby a guitar that sounds amazing than beat on a guitar that sounds horrible.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to contact them.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar and wouldn't change anything about it. I'm looking for a 12 string and will definitely go play a Seagull first!

This is a smaller classical size guitar with a wide classical size neck. It has a solid fine grained cedar top. There is no pick guard. It's not flashy, but has character.

Sound : 10
I do alot of finger picking and usually do not use a pick. I own 8 other guitars (Alvarez, Ovation, Takamine, Kay, Guild) and they all have good sound, but this one is the clearest. It's not as boomie as the guild or as bright as tha alvarez, but somewhere in between. This is the one I would keep, because of the sound if I could only hae one.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
It has a satin finish, which doesn't do a good job of protecting the wood. I bought it used and there were several scratches already on it. The action is great, low and no buzz. There is quality in the workmanship and hardeare.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Its used, and seems solid, but I've only had it a short time

I don't consider myself a guitar player, more of someone who plays on a guitar, but I've been doing it for over 30 years. I've owned 13 guitars. (1 Ovation, 1 Guild, 1 Takamine, 3 Alvarez six stings, 1 Alvarex 12 string, 1 Kay 12 string, etc.), but this Seagull suits be better than any I've played. The wide neck works, well with my fat fingers, and the sound is clearer than the guitars with the type of finger picking I do. I would definitly bu another if something happened to this one even if it meant selling a more expensive guitar to do it.

This guitar has a great feel and sound and is my main player guitar.I traded for the guitar and then added a Dean Markley Pickup to it. I can pick it up just about any time and it is in tune. The guitar is a smaller size guitar ( Auditorium ) Willie Nelson type guitar so don't exspect a deep bass or loud sound. the rosewood has a good sound to it and the maple neck has a nice feel.

Sound : 4
I play Christian rock and Blues style. This is the guitar I pick up first most of the time. It has a good tone and works well with alternitive tunnings. I would have liked to have a pickguard because allthough the rosewood has a great sound, it is very soft and Scratches easy and I play with a pick. If you play only fingerstyle this is not a problem.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
I set up my on guitars so anything I buy is not going to be where I like it. once set up though I could not find anything wrong. The guitar comes with Goden tuners and keeps in tune very well.

Reliability/Durability : 5
The guitar is a well built guitar, as said earlyer it could have used a pickguard. I have and will play it live with confidence. Just remimber to not to bang it too much.

Have not needed it

Seagull in a heartbeat, the only thing I would do diffrent is go ahead a spend the money to get the higher end.

Features : 3
This is a satin finish, smaller auditorium size guitar. I bought it for the smaller size. The neck seems to be shaped more like a nylon string guitar (hence the "Folk"). I actually don't like the neck shape. It's too wide for good chord work. The top seems to be solid, but don't know for sure. Very plain looking.

One thing that I absolutely hate about this guitar is that the position markers on the side of the neck (i.e. the ones you look down at while you're playing) are only at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets. While I'm playing I often glance down and think I'm at wrong fret because I forget that some of the markers are missing. What is the point of leaving out the dots at the 3rd and 9th frets?

All in all it's pretty bare-boned and I'm not in love with the few features that it has.

Sound : 3
This is the biggest disappointment. There's not one authoritative tone in this guitar. I realize that it is slightly smaller than most acoustic guitars out there, but I've played auditorium sized guitars that have strong, clear bass notes. And bright, trebly notes. This guitar just sounds muted and dry. Not the good kind of dry, dry as in dull. It doesn't project notes out either, they seem to get lost in the mix. Not much more to say really. It's not bad, I've heard much worse, but it doesn't really do anything for me.

To me, the Seagull is the Lace Sensor Pickups of acoustic guitars. If that makes any sense.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar has a satin finish, which means that it's barely there. This is fine on the hard back and sides, but the softer wood of the top (I'm not sure what kind it is) gets dented really easily, and there's no pickguard. Other than that the guitar is made very well. I have no complaints about the frets or anything else. Very good for the price.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Seems sturdy enough, other than the top getting dented and gouged all the time. It's not going to fall apart anytime soon.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 4
I've owned this guitar for about 2 years and only play it every now and then as I prefer playing electric. I have to say this guitar was a big disappointment. I'd heard good things about Seagull, but this guitar is just not that great. There are some features of this guitar that others might like more than me, like the shape of the neck or the "smooth" tone, but this overall I can't really think of much of anything to recommend this guitar. It's is well built and sturdy, I'll give it that. But otherwise it's a spongy sounding, ill playing and too quiet, even for a smaller guitar. This guitar could have been a lot better with a few changes that probably wouldn't have even affected the price. Unfortunately it's more of some strange duck of a guitar.

And the headstock is the ugliest headstock ever.

I'm not sure why people are so excited about the sound of this guitar. I purchased this guitar based on the reviews I read about it's sound quality being good. In my opinion, the guitar sounds very "tinny". I purchased it online, and when I opened it up, tuned it, and played it - it sounded like a cheap $20 guitar my nephew has. I was really disappointed. There's no point for me to rate the other features. Sounds is the most important, and in my opinion, the inexpensive price is definitely not worth it.

well this is a folk-style guitar, so it has a smaller body than most of the steelstring guitars. which is is great in my opinion, cause it makes the guitar very comfortable to play on. the saugull also has a wide neck which makes it more easy to play difficult chords.

Sound : 10
great! an amazing sounding guitar this good at this price. it sounds very deep (like a guild almost)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
well... the guitar can opticly damage easy cause the wood is quiet soft. so I have a budge here and there, but that doesn't effect the sound and gives it a "well played guitar" look wich I like.

This guitar has a solid cedar top with very fine grain (Seagull says from a Cedar tree over 400 years old). It is not at all fancy, but sounds great and is very loud for its size. I like a smaller size than a full dreadnought. This one fits very comfortably on your lap. It is not feature laden, but Seagulls are all good basic guitars. I believe this guitar (S6 + Folk) has an 1/8th of an inch wider neck than the regular steel strings, which makes it easier to finger pick.

Sound : 9
The guitar is loud with a warm sound that pleases me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
To get my current set up I adjusted the rod and sanded a mm or so off of the saddle to lower the action further down the neck. Something I always do before buying any guitar is look inside it. My Seagull is as neat and well done inside as outside. In virtually all less expensive guitars you'll see excess glue and amateur fitting where the bracing goes through that joining wood with all the cuts in it. I have a Taylor that is no tidier inside. I have read and been told that the difference between great and ok guitars is often the finish. It is very expensive to have a gloss finish that is good. Most guitars have glossy finishes and are therefore "not good". It is much easier and cheaper to have a satin laquer finish that is good. That's why Seagull chooses the rather plain look of satin laquer. This is a big deal for less expensive guitars. I have some Taylor guitars, and only my very expensive one has a glossy finish.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Cedar has an awesome warm tone, but it is a very soft. The finish does not offer any protection, but I don't think any finish that sounds good does. They have to be very thin and flexible.

Customer Support : 8
Don't know the warranty, but this guitar will go to my grave with me. I'm not worried.

Overall Rating : 9
I've had the guitar for two years and have been quite happy with it. I am currently looking for a new or used classical, and I'm looking forward to trying a "La Patrie" which is made by the same company. For the money, the S6 + folk is very good.

I believe this guitar was made in the mid-90's (i bought it used). It is a folk size guitar...smaller than dreadnaught, bigger than grand concert. Solid cedar top, cherry sides, mohagony neck, rosewood fretboard. Handcrafted in Canada. Schaller tuners. Nothing special, very plain, not even a pickguard!

Sound : 9
It suits my music style greatly. I play a good mix of music, but usually DMB, or classic rock. The sound is what sold me this guitar. It is very sweet. Not boomy like a dreadnaught or trebly like a grand concert. very good mix. Excellent for the price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Although used, I believe it had the factory set-up. The action was low for an acoustic, but no buzzing. plays beautifully. The guitar has no visible flaws, except a couple dings from the previous owner. the finish is very thin however. The wood is great, and is fitted very well.

Reliability/Durability : 7
this guitar is very well built, however fragile. this gives it its sweet sound i guess. the one strap button is very solid, however i would not recommend gigging with it (unless you fingerpick only), as the finish is fragile. It is best suited as a practice / play it for your friends guitar. My guitar is about five years old and is in pretty good shape, all you have to do is take good care of it.

Customer Support : 9
2 year warranty for the original owner comes with the guitar. One time i wrote them about their new compensated saddle and they sent me one for free!!! very good!

i've been playing casually for a few years. I also own a peavey electric (built like a tank), and a cheaper oscar schmidt acoustic (well built, but sound lacks). If it were stolen, i would try to replace it with another one, but money constraints might stop me. I love the sound. Seagulls IMO have the best sound on the market for the money. I bought it over a new Ibanez PF5CE.

Bought new 1997. Canadian-made, solid cedar top with satin finish, laminated wild cherry sides and back, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, no pick-guard, no electronics. Tuners seem decent, don't know brand, but they've worked fine.

Your basic decent-quality low end solid-top acoustic steel-string guitar. Smaller than "dreadnaught" size, larger than a "parlour guitar." Rating is based on the fact that the guitar isn't exactly feature-laden, but it has the essentials and what it has is of reasonable quality.

Sound : 7
I bought the guitar as a rank beginner and have been using it to learn. I am interested mainly in finger-picking in the blues styles of players like Mississippi John Hurt and also more folk-oriented pattern picking, accompanying songs. I also of course have learned some basic chord-strumming. I use it by myself at home. I think the sound of the guitar is beautiful, perhaps more so when strummed. It is quite responsive and loud. I won't attempt to characterize the sound as I don't have the background to throw around adjectives with any confidence.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Set-up was OK, but much better after adjustment by the shop a couple of months after purchase. I'm not aware of any flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I suspect this would not be the hardest-wearing guitar in the world. The top finish seems thin to me. I have no idea what demands live playing would involve.

I treat it with care and it has lasted very well so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with the company.

I love this guitar. I love the sound, look, feel, and smell of it. I have no complaints about it at all.

However, as I said it is my first guitar, and I think of it as an entry-level instrument. I have been saving for a fancier guitar, so if this one were stolen I might not replace it.

6-string, smaller-bodied acoustic. No frills, just a great guitar. No pickguard, no fancy binding (binding, yes, just not fancy) or fancy trim around soundhole- just 3 concentric circles. Solid Cedar top, back and sides, rosewood fretboard. Gotoh-type tuners with neat seagull logos on each of them. Rating is high because this guitar has all it needs- why spend your hard-earned bucks on fluff?

Sound : 10
Beautiful sound, like a ring in a bell that would make Johnny B Goode swoon! Really- it has a VERY nice ring- good harmonics without brittle, excessive overtones. Folk-sized body means none of the boominess of dreadnaughts. NOTHING to fault, sonically.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Very good setup. Nice construction- one of the hand-made Seagulls- I understand they are now machine- or semi-machine built. NO flaws that I could fing.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Here is where this guitar has issues. Cedar is a soft wood- I have seen another S6 that had lots of dings in the top (Lefty, too, that I wanted, but decided to pass because of the dings- should of gotten it after all), and I have nicked the soundhole with my agressive blues strumming style. Gonna have to pick up something a bit more resistant to that, I guess. Satin finish looks nice, in my opinion- I think I'll satin the finish of my next acoustic.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hear that Seagull is amomg the best is this regard, but have not needed any support, yet.

Overall Rating : 10
Yes, that is what I paid for it. No, you CAN NOT have it for anywhere near that price, not now, not ever. I love this guitar- would only sell it if I could get TWO hand-made Seagulls for the same price- a lefty for me, and another S6 for my girlfriend, who does not currently play, but I can dream...) I am afraid to gig with it, so will buy something else for that use. STOLEN? HORRORS!!! Excellent value- even brand new, machine-build ones. Didn't compare- had never heard of Seagull when I found this one, but I can recognize a deal when I see it. But I do wish the wood was more ding-resistant...
By the way, if anyone is in New Orleans, and wants to jam, I lead an acoustic jam nite mid-week. Email me.

This is Canadian made, satin finished, smaller than dreadnought flat top acoustic. I bought it used, but I suspect it was made in the 90's some time. It has a solid top, spruce I believe, laminated sides.
Fingerboard is rosewood, and is a bit wider than the usual acoustic width and with a fairly thick radius. I really like this neck, easier to get good note definition with a bit more space between strings. Good quality tuners.
Ornamentation is spartan, which I think adds to the puritan charm of this box. No fancy inlay, no fancy rosette, not even a pickgard.
There is some kind of passive pickup with no external controls inside the guitar. I have no idea if it is original or not. When I bought it used, I also got a non-original hard shell case.

Sound : 9
I play with a flat pick and often use a heavy percussive stroke. This guitar doesn't wimp out when you play it hard, but sounds nice picked lighter too. Good sound for single string lead and for cowboy chords strumming. Acoustic sound is loud, a bit bright, not especially rich or "singing". But it really cuts through other instruments. Tight bass, not muddy. I don't finger pick, but a finger picker might like this guitar.
Given that the pickup is passive and has no shaping controls, it sounds pretty decent. I usually plug into an electric guitar amp, sometimes with a bit of delay and reverb. Mixed with the mic'ed acoustic sound the pickup adds even more definition. All and all, notes really jump off the guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar had perfect action when I got it, just low enough. This used guitar had some very noticeable wear under the strings that a pickguard would have stopped. On the other hand, no pickguard means no damping of top vibrations.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is an acoustic guitar, not a Telecaster, but it seems sturdy enough. Yes, I'd gig with it. Neck and tuners are stable. I couldn't care less about the thin finish with some wear showing as long as the guitar sounds and plays this good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No data. Nothing to fix.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing acoustic since the middle 70's, and I almost always use a flat pick. Unless I was had the funds for a much more expensive guitar, I'd replace this is lost with another Seagull. My favorite features are the wide fretboard and the loud, well defined, in your face sound.
Before this guitar my main acoustic was a circa 1980 solid spruce top Japanese 000 Martin copy with a heavy gloss finish. The 000 copy still sounds nice if you play it soft, but the Seagull has much more dynamic range.
In general every Seagull I've ever seen was an incredible deal in terms of sound and playability for the money. Used, this one was just too good a deal to pass up.

This is a regular steel-string, solid-cedar top acoustic. The body shape is quite lovely... the shoulders are wonderfully sloped, not squared like most dreadnoughts. In fact, I think this axe may be ever-so-slightly smaller than a dreadnought... Don't get me wrong, though, it's not as small as a 000 or anything. The top is 15" across, 19.5" long, and almost 4.5" deep. It has a rosewood board with average sized m.o.p. dots. The top, as I stated, is solid cedar (with wonderfully straight and even grain), the back and sides are canadian wild cherry: a quite beautiful wood. It's scalloped x braced, and handmade in La Patrie Canada. THe bridge is rosewood, and the nut and saddle are Micarta. I am pretty sure the tuners are grovers, if I remember correctly. The neck is mahogany, and has a quite innovative joint with no glue... it's done in the same way as Taylors with (gasp) a bolt on the inside of the guitar. I prefer this type of joint to the traditional glue, though, because theres no glop, glue or finish to get in the way of sound transfer... Seagull does this to insure sound transfer and consistency, not in any way at all as a cost saver. The scale is an in-between 25" and the neck is pretty comfy, but not a dream or anything. Fairly standard radius. It has a satin finish, 4 coats of alcohol laquer, hand sanded between each coat, not that cheap polyurethane stuff... trust me, never buy a guitar with a poly finish. One coat of Poly is equal in thickness to 30 coats of alcohol lacquer, and absolutely kills the sound of a guitar. No pickup, or accesories of any kind... not even a case. bummer, but for around $300 for a handmade, north american, scalloped braced solid top, what the heck!

Sound : 8
I am not a flat top player, normally... I usually play jazz, and I mostly use this for writing, especially when I am sitting behind a piano. It does this admirably... with a good set of phosphor bronze strings on it, this baby sounds quite killer... I heard it in the store and had to have it, even before I knew the price (I mean, the guy said it was cheap, but I didn't know HOW cheap! Man, what a steal!). Anything woth a solid top, scalloped bracing, lacquer (as opposed to poly) finish and good construction will sound good. I mean, this thing's no Taylor, but for the price, the sound is quite good. It's rich and full, not at all bright, with warm qualities.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Well, nothing's perfect... I had to do some pretty serious tweaking to get this thing like I wanted it. This is the exception, though, for most 'Gulls I've played have been very smooth. Actually, mine wasn't all THAT serious... I just had to play around with the truss rod for quite some time. The action is still a bit high for my tastes... perhaps I should file the saddle down. Everything else, though, is great. Nut is cut superbly, tuners and all other hardware are very smooth, and no finish flaws... quite durable finish on the back and sides especially. I must clarify... problems are not as bad as I may make them out to be. I've played much more expensive axes that felt much worse... I'm just picky about playability.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Like I said, I'm a jazz cat, so I don't use this live. It has, however, withstood some minor accidents at home, like once when I accidentally dropped a harmonica on it from my blues days, and another time when a slide fell on it (I used to be REALLY into the blues, let me tell you). The finish is very strong, but on the top, the cedar wood is REALLY soft... I mean, the least little thing will leave a small scar... but most aren't visible from over 2 feet away. Overall, very reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't ask me, I just play the thing... I don't keep in touch with its parents!

Overall Rating : 9
I own quite a fair amount of gear... this is probably my most inexpensive axe that I actually still use (I own 7 total, but actually use 5 regularly). This is the closest thing I have to a serious steel string acoustic... I hope to get a gut-string of some kind before the summer's up. I guess a pickup would be useful, but I'd rather have a nylon-string with a pickup for jazz. If it were stolen, I'd probably get a gut string instead. I love that it has all these groovy features of a really high-end acoustic (It fools some people into thinking it's MUCH more pricey than it is!) like a solid top, scalloped bracing, same neck joint style as Taylor, handmade, etc. but at a MUCH groovier price. I wish it came with a case, but hey, you can't have it all. This is by far the best guitar for the price, I don't care what anyone says... Even though I haven't rated it that high in some of the other categories, I'm giving it a good score for overall rating simply because of the VALUE! It's definitely a good thing to get a guitar this well made with good materials for this kind of price... but I did buy it a few years ago... I don't think they make them anymore. I think a comparable model lists for around 500 now, but street price is lower. This is a cheap guitar that's not at all cheaply made.
