Takamine C-126

I was given my C-126 Takamine Classical guitar by my son-in-law. It had been stored in a chipboard case in his crawl space in Anchorage, Alaska and he and my daughter were moving and cleaning out tons of junk he had acquired. Long story short, the strings were all bad but the guitar looked fine despite the obvious changes in temperature and humidity. I cleaned it up, switched out the strings with some good quality classical strings and it sounds great. As others have noted great tone and volume throughout. I was getting some weird buzzing but it was just a couple string ends I had not cut off short enough - they were buzzing against the top - trimmed them and the loud buzzing was gone - an indication the the top must vibrate quite a bit when playing. This guitar made in Japan is like other Takamines I've played and owned - simply outstanding, beautifully made and a lot of bang for the buck - even if you do pay for one (I just had to do some labor for mine).

Looks good. Finish has held up well. Clean inside and out. Nice binding.

From what I can tell this is a very durable guitar - as noted earlier it withstood several years of neglect with no visible damage, cracks, checks, still looks like new.

I have played other classical guitars - no real expensive handmade ones - Goya, Gibson, Martin, Yamaha. I have a Samick chambered electric classic guitar and like the Takamine neck much better. The Takamine C126 holds up against them all. It is not fancy but has a good tone and playability. I noticed I can pop the strings and it sounds kind of nasty in a good way. I think it might be fun to do flamenco on as it seems to like the aggresive finger picking.

I have played Fender, Yamaha, Aria classicals, and nothing even comes close to the full, rich, "LOUD", beautiful sound of this guitar. The lows are full and powerful, and the highs are bright and clear. This is an awesome guitar. I can't that a classical can be this loud and clear at the same time

Action was a perfect for a classical.
No buzzes, great intonation.
finish seems perfect.

This guitar is almost 25 years old. I am the second owner, purchasing it in 2005, and I can't imagine that it ever sounded better.

If it were lost or stolen I would hunt another one down and buy it for more than double what I paid for this one.

This 1982 Takamine c-126 was made in Japan and has a spruce top,nato back and sides (all laminated), mahogany
neck,rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
Has 19 frets, and the nut and bridge are made of bone.
It has a (classical) dreadnought style body, the top half of the body is equal in size to the bottom half. The neck is fat, even for a classical guitar. Came with a hardcase. There are no pickups
The neck joins the body at the 12th fret.

This guitar has incredible sound, it has a rich tone and its bass notes are extra loud, yet the treble is defined. I can honestly says this laminated top guitar sounds better than almost any other solid top I've ever played, and almost as good as a friends 1972 Gibson Hummingbird. When you play this guitar it sounds like a CLASSICAL guitar and not just like an acoustic with nylon strings. This guitar has incredible sustain, and the harmonics dont sound 'trapped' as laminated top guitars usually do.

This guitar feels great, the neck is fat even for a classical but you get used to it in a few minutes. Another complaint is that the neck joins the body at the 12th fret, but supposedly (The Guitar Handbook says) that acoustics and classicals with the neck joining at the 12th fret improves tone. The top of the guitar has completely vertical and tight wood grain, the farthest apart one grain from the next is probably a quarter of a centimeter. The finish is perfect, and the action and all is perfect but the grain on the back of the guitar, though bookmatched isnt the absolute best quality.
The frets however were filed properly on the sides so it is very comfortable to play.

This guitar seems pretty tough since its all laminated, and the neck is mahagony, not that it would snap suddenly during a show anyways. The hardware is top quality but its not gold plated or anything, the finish is relatively thick, for a classical. There are no strap buttons, and I use it on a gig without a backup any day.

I've been playing for 5 years, and play everyday and I've tried hundreds of Takamine's and other acoustics,(though not that many classicals) This guitar sounds incredible, and like I said before almost as good as a vintage Gibson Hummingbird. It definately sounds better than any of the new top of the line Tak's out there right now. If it were lost or stolen I WOULD DEFINATELY want another one but this guitar is pretty rare. I wish everyone could try this guitar just to see how good it is.
