I bought this guitar in 1995 as NEW. Original Takamine quality and manufatured in Japan. Back and side of Rosewood. Solid Top of Spruce, and the rossette is beautiful. Not because is my guitar, but I like her as much as I like my wife. Her Neck is mahogany and the fretboard is Rosewood too. Classical body with a sense of color, I say a yellow tone. Bridge is made of ebony, different from other Takamine that have a Rosewood bridge. I had been playing my guitar for the last 6 years and she still looks as the first day. I am very proud of my guitar and if you are looking for some advise...do not pay thausand of dollars in spaniard or famous handcraft made guitars, not if you are only another student. Takamine is a very good option for the money you should pay.

Well. This guitar sound loud, but is made with new wood , what in my opinion is not recommended for the deep incredible full sound of the classic guitar. But just like me, you can invest your money on this guitar and as time goes by you will find that your guitar is having an incredible new sound. Belive me, the spruce of this guitar will be getting better and better accross the next 10 years. Always keep her save from humidity.

Very Good finish. Not french finish, but still good because sound is very loud considering her as a serial made guitar by the japaneses.
Wood is the very best thing in this guitar, forget about everything else. This guitar is an investment right now.
I DID NOT FIND ANY DEFECT IN THIS GUITAR. I explore the interior with a small mirror and has a great finish on everything.

HARD TO BREAK it. Be carefull always, this guitar is solid, very solid. The finish seems to last forever. The fingerboard is very hard and the nickel frets looks beautiful. The straps buttons are in perfect conditions.

Standard Type and Size of Classical Guitar. Made in Japan. Date stamped inside March 21,1979. Bought used. Looks like solid rosewood back and sides, but the top looks laminated. Bought on ebay auction for 177.50 plus shipping which brought the total to 200.00 Its real old so the top is just a tad warped, but not serious. Typical wide neck normally found in traditional classical guitars, but not quite as fat of a neck as some of 'em. No cutaway, just a very standard classical nylon string guitar.

Wow! Unreal! I feel like a person who was unable to sing, and all of a sudden I have the voice of some famous singer. Maybe due to its age, I don't know why, but this thing sounds like a thousand dollar guitar. Its as loud as my steel string, but as my son commented, its also light as a feather. Its got a deep yet clear, loud yet singing beautiful tone. Maybe I'm overreacting because everything in this price range at the music stores sounded nowhere near as good in comparison, but it really lets me feel comfortable doing simple stuff, because it just resonates and sustains beautifully with each note. I'm kind of surprised. If this is the way Takamine does classical guitars, I'd say they know what they're doing over there in their factory, big time.

Its hard to comment on this. Classical guitars aren't really known for having fast action. But this one came with too high of action even for a classical guitar. However I lowered the saddle by removing it and sanding the bottom of it till the action was pretty standard I think. I measured a classical guitar's action at a music store and it matched that. 3/16" at the 12th fret on the low E string. I can get it lower, but this is acceptable, and I'm also getting used to playing the classical. I think this high action was probably due to the slight warp in the top. But now it plays fine. My rating of action is from after I lowered it.

This guitar, like most classicals is delicate. With proper caution, it can be taken to play anywhere. I don't know how durable it is, so I won't rate this.

Dunno. Never called Takamine, and it probably wouldn't help me to do so for a guitar this old.

I played electric and steel string acoustic for 25 years. This is completely different, and is meant for a different type of playing. I'm using it fingerstyle, but plan to take it to church sometime to use for the sunday worship since it seems loud enough, and it might be fun to use once in awhile instead of my acoustic steel string.
Buying stuff by internet auction is always a risk, but if there's not too much money involved, I think it can be worth the risk. Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win, but there are alot more decent people out there than I originally thought. I think I mostly came out a winner on this guitar. Something old and seasoned with beautiful tone, but a tiny problem with the action which at first had me worried but not I'm relieved its ok so far. There are hundreds of classical guitars out there and someday I'll get another one. But this one's great for now, and I can continue to learn classical style on it.
