Hirade (high end Takamine) ED-90 acoustic/electric cutaway classical. I purchased the guitar from a web discounter, knowing the guitar only from articles. I was looking for good amplified tone and was hoping for good acoustic tone, although tone varies so greatly even within a small run of acoustics. The web site, Music 123, was quite helpful, specially ordering the instrument and arranging for it to be drop shipped from Kaman.
After having the guitar for 2 months, I remain shocked by how well it sounds played acoustically. The amplified tone is good, but unamplified it is great. The top is solid spruce (Engleman?) and back and sides of laminated indian rosewood. Neck is mahogany. The tone compares to high end hand made classics. The price I paid was $1,600.
The action was high at the saddle and needed lowering, but otherwise playability was fine.I play classical and fingerstyle jazz and pop arrangements and have been playing for 25 years.
Takamine's active digital preamp works well and allows for signal processing at the guitar. I'm primarily an acoustic player, so the electronics part is not a strength.
I would certainly recommend the model, but also recommend playing a good sample, if possible, to rule out mine being unusually good.
