2002 model. Bought it off ebay as a AAA factory second. Apparently it has a spruce top instead of a cedar top. The preamp is great and has a built in tuner which is very convenient.

Sound : 8
it sounds great, especially for a guitar with laminated back and sides (maple). The preamp sounds better than the fishman preamp that is on my Taylor and the pickup is definitely more sensitive. Unplugged, it has a nice mellow tone that is very mellow compared to the bright sound of my 410.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is not quite as good as my taylor but it is the best that I have ever seen on a Takamine. Finish is pretty mediocre but that might be b/c it is a factory second. I love the neck: it's very fat and feels comparable to a 50's Les Paul.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I have only had it a week but it seems solid.

Great guitar for the price. I got a great deal on it but would have definitely paid the full price (I think about $700) b/c it is definitely worth it. The quality of the sound is very comparative with my Taylor which cost twice as much.

check out the specs at www.takamine.com. My preamp has the exciter thingy on it, not sure if the newer models have it.

Only gripe is that it didn't have a strap button, so I had to have one put on for me (done for free, so no biggie, but hey - how hard can it be to equip all guitars with that extra button?).

I love the way this guitar sounds. At first I wanted a Taylor... was about to pick up a 710... then I noticed that Bruce Springsteen always uses this guitar, so I checked it out. I must say that right off the bat, the Takamine felt better than the Taylor. The neck on the Takamine is wonderful! Tapers a bit, not chunky like the Taylor. The sound of the Takamine is also bigger and wider. The Taylor was nice (it's a Taylor) but just didn't project like the Takamine. The neck was smooth to play... I can play it for hours, and the Taylor made my hand tired after just a few minutes (the neck was too fat).

Unplugged this guitar fills the room. I like my acoustics a bit on the brighter side, and this Takamine is perfect for my tastes. Not too bright that you lose the bass, though... well balanced, but it can cut through. I fingerpick and use a pick, and both ways sound great.

Plugged in this guitar sound amazing. Very powerful.

Recorded with this guitar, and sounded great as well. Again, well balanced tone... but that could be from mic placement and all. No complaints.

So I chose this guitar over a Taylor 710. That should tell you enough about this guitar. I would cry my eyes out if it got stolen.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar felt great from the get go... no problems with buzz or anything of the sort.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I play shows every week, and these shows sometimes go over 2 hours... no problems. This guitar feels very solid and strong. Not heavy at all, but just heavy enough to know that it's there. Like a BMW.

I love this guitar. I plan on buying another as a backup.

I've played Gibsons, Taylors, Fenders, Yamahas... and this Takamine crushes them all in terms of sound and feel. Gibsons were too muddy, and they just didn't feel right on me. The necks on the Taylors made my hand hurt. Fenders didn't have the power nor projection I desired.

Yeah, if it were stolen, I'd cry... but then I'd go buy another one, so that's ok... but I really love the one I have right now.

I highly recommend checking out this guitar before making any purchases. This guitar is a workhorse. If you want it to cut through in a band mix, it'll do... if you are a solo artist, it'll do... if you want a good recording guitar, it'll do... if you want to swing it around your head the way Bono does in the "With or WIthout You" video, it'll do... the only thing it doesn't do is kill your wallet.

I'd go on and on about this guitar, but I'm tired right now.

Incredible low factory settting and med-light strings..... just awesome out of the box.

ebay ad:

These Springsteen model 6 string cut-a-way acoustic/electric guitars have a regular list price of $1159.00. They feature solid Cedar tops, Flamed Maple back and sides with cutaway upper body access. They are marked as AAA quality seconds and supposedly some finish flaw on the guitar. We have gone over the entire stock of the 10 we received and havent been able to find any finish flaws. Our store is a authorized Takamine service center and is offering a full 2 year unlimited warranty on these guitars. The preamp system is Takamine's top of the line CT-4B system with onboard chromatic tuner.

No buzzing and WOW what sound. Choards SCREAM so much more than my old Yamaha.. My wife said this made my playing easyier on her. Picking is still taking time getting used to- my fingers seem to get in way of other strings once in a while.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this off of ebay as a AAA Factory Second. there really is nothing I can see just as the seller stated. The only "blemish" is where the upper strap peg will go- the white is showing some of the black beneath.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Tuners are topnotch. Fretboard has a really smooth feel.
