This guitar was red body outlined in black. Mahogany. Nice finish too. Shaped like an explorer. The action was low and the neck was nice and straight. 22 frets, dual humbuckers with volume & tone and 2 way selector switch.

This guitar could grunt. Great low end perfect for the crunchy plex sound. Nice clean sound as well and seemed to stay in tune really well, even in an environment where the humidity changed a lot. I enjoyed everything about this guitar. The one drawback was having to hang it up since it would not fit in a stand.

Action was nice and low. Minus the sharp edges of the horns ( which were prone to getting dinged) this was an awesome guitar.

21 year player. I would buy another one if found at the right price and condition. Loved everything about it. A tremelo would have been nice, but I have a washburn kc-70v for that.

Great for classsic metal and hard rock. Narrow fretboard kind of hard for chording but not impossible. Has some piezo issues due to neck through body construction, and responds too well to high notes and feedback. Great sound though

Good action straight out of the box but it was better after it was tuned and adjusted. No manufacturer flaws but the plastic headstock and plates on the body have gotten old and brittle. The neck was a little narrow but the fretboard is fast and straight.

I have been using this Axe since i bought it new from the music store in 1990.Takamine appeared to have made a limited number as a testmarket and forgotten about them. It has seen a lot of use as my primary and backup for several bands that i was roadie for in Austin Texas.I put on strap ocks and it has a couple of dings but has been very rugged and durable and will hold a tuning.

Takamine has no record at this time of creating this line of electric guitars.they were unable to produce replacement parts or plastic molding for the headstock. I understand there was a change of ownership at about the time this took place.Takamine always made guitars by hand. There was a change in managment in the 90's and they went to mass manufacture after that. It was the same time frame so i assume that is what happened to the gx100 and gx200 line. none of them had serial#'s

This is a one of a kind AXE. Beatiful finish, playabilty, and astonishingly durable. I have been playing for at least 20 years and i still suck but it makes me sound good and feel good about playing. I have seen a few in pawnshops but i know if anything happened there is no way i could replace this guitar and i would realy regret it.I also have a washburn and Les Paul and they have different tonal range and response.the gx100 is every bit asgood as either one of them.

I have since earned my degree in music and teach it...
GX is again my main axe.

I have had tons of different pickups in it and they all sound awesome.
I just put pickups from an 84 SG in it.
It sounds just like any Gibson Solid body player... slash, angus, etc...
Cliffs of Dover sounds descent on it too.... very smooth.

I bought this guitar a year ago for $150. It was made in 1984 or 1985. Gloss black Explorer-type body. Neck through, mahogany body. Dual humbuckers with 3-way pickup selector, master volume and tone. A previous owner installed two toggle switches that split the coils in the humbuckers.

The GX 100 is an AWESOME guitar. I'm not sure where or when it was made, although I heard that Takamine never released solidbodies in North America....so.
This one, I bought second hand in very good condition, back in 98. Its a blue to black sunburst finish with set neck(I do belive), tune-0-matic bridge and two (ceramic/high output)humbuckers. It has a very severe lightning bolt shape. Like a sharp, pointy, little Explorer from hell. Vicious!
When I went to look at this guitar, I fell for it instantly. The neck is so thin and quick...Its like the "Billy the Kid" of speedy necks, plus the guy who owned it before me stripped the back of the neck down to the wood, so theres none of that sticky gloss finish to slow you up.
I also had my tech rewire it. Instead of a tone and a volume knob, I have a volume knob for each pickup. I did away with the tone function comepletly... Also I would like to add, I appriciate the speed knobs very much.
A quality instrument.

This guitar goes everywhere. The natural reponse, of course, is to shred like a guitar weilding samurai on Acid, but there is "Oh" so much more. With a little patience, and some amp tweaking, you can find a plethora of healthy, wealthy tones. Tonnes of tones! Wether I 'm plugged into a Zoom amp simulator, my dads ol' Fender Blues Deluxe, or cranked up on the high-gain channel of my little crate GX-15 practice amp. This Dog Howls! I get mellow-bluesy rythymn sounds and buttery smooth vocal/vowel leads. The neck pickup is thick bodied and warm. I can get a great punchy 70s snot rock kind of thing from the bridge bucker too.
And I like comp'ing clean jazzy chords that sparkle into the night. And it has a lead guitar personality that I have found to be unmatched.
At high gain settings it boils, oozes, and steams like magma.
But beware!!! If you crank it up, it'll whistle like a tea-kettle. Loud, and uncontrolable. So you have to nurse it a little. But, I mean ...what metalhead DOESN'T use a noise gate in this day and age?...Not me...that who.
The two volume knobs allow me to blend pickups for even more tone selection, and I can shut one pickup off and toggle the pickups on and off like a LesPaul or SG. Although, the pickup doesn't shut off completely at high gain settings, so its more like a toggle between a "Dirty Crunch for Lunch", and the saturated fat of "Guitar Sinner for Dinner"

Factory set-up is void, as I got it used. But it came with a rectangular case, which seems to be special for this particular guitar on account of its unique shape.
My only concern since I bought this guitar back in 98, is that I havent played it more. I'm a bit of a whammy bar kinda guy, but even without it, this guitar is just splendid. I think it prefers 9 guage string, which I recently tuned down to C#11(and its corresponding drop-B)tuning, for that really heavy "Hangmans-Noose" kind of sound. It serves it well.
The action is great and all the bits are polished and cared for. No loose ends. Nice nickle plating too (but its wearing off a little). They paid great attention to detail.

Quite durable and rugged. I ve dropped it once or twice, and I think the cat knocked it off the stand once too. Still good as new, aside from the few superficial flaws in the finish. Good hard coating. The strap buttons are nice and compact, if not a little tiny. Those cheap $2.00 strap locks make a world of difference. You'll never drop it again! I would definatly use it at a gig. But I usually have a couple guitars to play, although with some elixer strings I have no doubts about this fine 6 string.

I never had to call the company for any reason, although I did work at a takamine dealer back in the 90's. It seems they are quite good though...I think my tech contacted them once and they said they never released solid bodies in the US....hmmm...

I love this guitar. But don't let that throw you.
I have been playing for about 11 years and have played many different guitars. This one, and my Peavey Nitro III are my main axes to date. I also play a Harmony Strato-Tone(Hollow-body) and a Glissentar. Zoom has good devices too. Palmstudios and what not.
The Takamine GX-100 is wicked. I love the sound and I like the playability.
Flaws:
-The neck is very thin. My thumb muscle tightens up when playing this guitar. But I have big hands, and I should try to relax a little more.
-The strap pegs need straplocks (else drop your axe)
-It tends feed back due to the high output pickups (but thats nothing a good ol'Noisegate won't clamp down on)
I suppose its comparable to an Explorer, Or a PRS McCarty even. But much, much less expensive... I paid $150 canadian. With a case and cable and a "Nevermind" tabs book. Sheesh!
I love this axe. If you get one or play one you may agree, it is an excellent guitar. And it just looks so cool!
Thanx all

This guitar is easily my favorite guitar to play and I would put it's sound up against any guitar. Teh only problem is that it has an insane amount of feedback when the volume is turned all the way up, going straight into my amp. This, however, is not a tough problem to work around.

I just got this guitar about 3 months ago, so as far as factory set-up I'm not real sure. The intonation is great for being so old, the frets are in good condition. I'm not sure if there has been any work done on it before I bought it though.

There are some dings in the body and such from the previous owner, but nothing too serious. Mainly chipped paint, one rather large ding in the headstock. the tail piece is a little aged, but overall everything is in great condition.

Sound is brillant thanks to to installed pickups. Its a little noisy when close to monitors etc but thats to be expected with any guitar. My guitar has a well rounded sound, using the tone knob I can go from an almost acoustic sound to getting into muddy territory. I can get many usable sounds from this instrument.

As has been mentioned numerous times....very fast neck!!! The action on mine is very low and I get some fret buzz but it doesnt bother me...this guitar is a dream to play, my hands dont get tired playing this guitar, unlike my acoustics and other electric. My was set up perfectly when I got it. Its had a rough life. The previous owner used it as a clock in his shop so the section of timber between the 2 pickups was hollow and has now been covered with a brass plate. Quite a few battle scars. The neck has been cracked in its life but was professionally repaired and has had no issues since. The neck is stright as a die, no warping or bowing.

My guitar is white but aged to a nice ivory. Made sometime between 81 and 83, the only time Takamine made solid-body electrics. It has one volume, one tone, and a 3-way selector switch. Two humbuckers, 22 frets. It is shaped like a Gibson Explorer, but its thinner. Not many features, but everything it has is excellent.

I play almost every music style you could think of except for Hip Hop and Country. This guitar is great for metal and hard rock. When i play blues its alright but my strat is so much better. This guitar roars for anything heavy, and is great for sweet technical hardcore riffs.

The finish is great. There are chips because I got this used, and it loos like it had been abused by the previous owner, but overall not too bad. The action on this guitar is absouloutely amazing. This is the fastest playing guitar I've played. Before I bought this i was playing Gibson Custom Les Pauls, Custom SG's, and I prefer this guitar over any of those.

This guitar will definately withstand live playing, and since it is from the early 80's and still has the original hardware, then yes it will last. The finish is pretty great. I dont really like the strap buttons since they are small and it is placed just behind the neck, like an Sg so it falls of pretty easy.

I play this through a Roland Cube 60, and its great. I bought this guitar without playing because of my Takamine acoustic, which is amazing, and the reviews here. I am definately glad i bought it. If I see another one of these for sale locally, I will definately buy it. If you ahve a chnace to get this guitar, then do. I promise you, you wont regret it.
