This instrument is a grand auditorium has a satin finish with a solid spruce top and laminated mahogony back and sides. It was made in 2008 and came with a padded gig bag. Nice tuners and no cut away or electronics. Left handed model (thanks Taylor for thinking of us).

Sound is amazing. If you were blindfolded I could convince you it was a much more expensive Taylor. Sound is sweet like all Taylors I have played in the past. This guitar is no exception.

Set up has been perfect from the factory. No buzzing and low action makes it a dream to play. It is rare to find a lefty that is set up properly from the factory. Finish is perfect and appears made high quality tone woods.

This guitar seems very durable. The body is laminated mahogony which makes it light and strong and I can hear very little difference between this and solid wood guitars. The top finish is delicate

No repair issues on this one yet. Taylor customer service is really helpful and getting information on their products is really easy.

I have been playing 10 years on and off. If it were stolen, I would buy another. I love the sound especially at this price. I would like the finish to be glossy and not satin, but that is another league as far as price goes. This guitar compares to high end taylors for sound. I think Taylor out did themselves with this one...why buy $2000 guitars when this one does it well for a fraction of the price.

It's a pretty basic guitar - x14, so it's a Grand Auditorium body, no electronics, no cutaway. Solid Sitka Spruce top, laminated Sapele sides and back (the back is, interestingly enough, unbraced). Satin finish, plastic binding, plastic rosette, sealed chrome tuners, tusq bridge and nut. Comes with a very nice padded gig bag. I can't fault the guitar for being simple - Taylor has made a point of building an affordable guitar by removing flashy stuff, instead of removing sound and playability.

It sounds like a Taylor - no kidding! Played side-by-side with a 714CE, a 512 and a 310E at the store, it fit right in. Taylors have a piano-like, full, bright sound to me - punchy in the mids and tops, but rolling off in the lower registers. Still strong in the bottom, but not overwhelming. Each note in a chord rings independently weather plucked lightly with fingers or strummed hard with a pick. Like all high-quality acoustics, it is very expressive.

I've found a few burrs and glue spots, but I have to say that it plays like a Taylor, right out of the box. That beautiful Taylor neck, great low action, etc. - I have a few buzzes to work out and I would like to lower the action a tiny bit (personal preference + weak hands, hah), but as soon as I got it home I put on a strap and played for a few hours.

No Opinion
No idea, haven't had it long enough yet. I will be tender with the unbraced back, and the satin finish may tend to wear quicker (and I've seen sweat do nasty things to satin finishes!) - but not to belabour the point, it's a Taylor. Sturdy.

I actually called Taylor prior to buying this one - had some questions about a used 412 that I was considering buying. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, even though I wasn't yet a Taylor owner! Amazing. No auto-attendant BS, no tech support e-mail delay hell - just an 800 number and a human being on the other end of the line. What a pleasant surprise!

This is my first real acoustic, but I've been playing electric for many years and have some decent ones. I'm already fallen in love with the 114 and would definitely replace it with either the same or something like a 414E (or CE) if it were lost, stolen or destroyed. I compared this guitar to similarly-priced guitars from all manufactures I had available, as well as some much higher-priced ones - it was The One this time! As another review somewhere said: "calling this guitar 'entry-level' is a joke". It's just a simpler Taylor, made in Mexico instead of California, and with less expensive components. I was blown away by the quality for the dollars.
