all mahogany construction. dot inlays. grover tuners. black plastic-ish finish, nothing really special. not a cut-away body, sadly; standard 20 fret acoustic. no electronics, just a simple acoustic guitar. steel-string.
from what i've read off of musiciansfriend.com, the ones made in indonesia are better quality than the ones made in china (go figure). mine was made in indonesia, so i must have been lucky. i tried a friend's guitar (same brand and model) which was made in china, and it did not sound or feel especially great.

this is an EXCELLENT acoustic guitar for practicing any musical style. i play mostly metal (yes, on an acoustic, because this washburn is the only one i could afford), but i also have some classical, jazz, and other stuff thrown in for good measure. best for hillbilly rock. :)
i use d'addario phosphor bronze 12's on this, and after 2 weeks or so after you break in the strings, the guitar has a very rich, yet bright, and warm tone. it sure isn't a $1500 martin, but i paid $130 US for this guitar, and it sounds like something in the $400 range, maybe even $500! i know a friend who paid $600 for his ibanez acoustic, and his doesn't even sound HALF as good as mine.

guitar set-up was excellent. i didn't take it over to the luthier to get it adjusted. bridge and nut were fine. when i got the guitar, it was flawless, something i can laud washburn for. no cracks anywhere, no flaws as far as i could see. the tuners stay in place very nicely.

just your average acoustic. take it to a camping trip, to a church meeting, anything. it'll work anywhere until you have to play to a big crowd. from there on, you need a soundhole pickup and an acoustic amp.
i've had it for nearly 7 months as i write this (i bought it in september 2006), and it nothing has failed yet. so far so good.

i've been playing for only 7 months or so as i write this (got the guitar in september 06), but i practice at least an hour or so everyday, which has REALLY stepped me up. i figure i'm playing what it takes some folks YEARS to learn.
i don't own any other guitars. right now, i have other financial obligations. thus said, THIS guitar is REALLY precious to me. it's my first, and i figure it'll be my last until God decides to send me about $3000 US for a good tube stack, a good electric guitar, and accessories required for that set-up. i CANNOT lose this guitar. it is the best one EVER, because it's MY BABY! simply put, other acoustic guitars just can't match up to mine. i love it too much.

Made in China, laminated Mahogany. Your basic dreadnaught acoustic as described many times here before.
Sound
:
7
To my untrained ear the sound is great. Quite loud.
Most sound faults I reckon can be attributed to the poor quality strings fitted as standard
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Quite a high action which I have made no attempt to alter yet. Been learning on an electric and its definitley harder. Again a change to a lighter gauge string should help.
Still perfectly playable though, with no buzz.
Overall finish is to a very good standard. No traces of excess glue either inside or out. In fact the inside looks VERY clean. Pick guard not stuck down well just where it touches the neck, but thats about it. No ugly imperfections of any sort I can see.

Don't plan to play it live, but as yet don't see why you couldn't.
It seems very solid. Time will tell.

Only been playing a couple of months, so my opinion can only be from a beginners perspective, and I think this is a fine guitar for beginners, and I would hope it lasts until I'm an accomplished player.
Would definitely buy again. Maybe go for another colour just to ring the changes ;-)

Indonesia. I don't know the year. All the relevant info has been given in previous reviews. The best thing I must say are the Grover Tuners. I like the color too.

pathetic. It's loud but the tone is not up to the mark. Actually it's nowhere near the mark.

Atrocious. Horrible. And after fiddling around with the Truss rod and the saddle for the last two damn hours....I am back to square one (the only option left for me is to cut the saddle in half). And the Pins are just lousy. Two of them have already broken and I have had this guitar for less than 48 hours. And trust me...it's not me.

I purchased this guitar in September of 2004 from Musicians Friend. It has gold Grover tuners, laminated mahogany top and back, and solid mahogany sides.
Sound
:
10
This is the best sounding 99$ guitar i've ever played. It has a very well balanced and bright sound. After playing it regularly for the past 8 months I replaced the saddle, and nut with Corian and got rid of the cheap plastic pins. The volume and sustain increased about 20%.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The action, out of the box was pretty good but it really is much better after a good set up. If you want to lower the action without replacing the saddle or messing with the truss rod you can remove the saddle and take out the shim thats in the saddle slot. The guitar I have has a few buffing marks (or burns) and the top has a unnatural looking dark stripe across the grain below the bridge. Other than a few finish flaws the guitar is very nice looking, better than I would expect form a guitar in this price range.

I have been playing guitar for 40 years. My main guitar is a Martin HD28VR. I bought this guitar for playing around camp fires and places I would not take my Martin. I would buy another one if it was lost or stolen. If you buy one have the nut, saddle and pins replaced with bone, it will improve the sound even more.
I have been searching the web and it appears that people are saying that this guitar has a solid top and back. I dont know if mine is different but it definitly DOES NOT HAVE SOLID MAHOGANY TOP AND BACK. A quick look through the sound hole, you will see a very light colored blond wood on the back similar to spruce, and an inspection mirror will reveal the same for the top. Mahogany is a pink color, as you can see on the interior of the sides. The stores are telling people this guitar is solid mahogany. I don't know if there are different D100M's but mine is definitly laminated mahogany and spruce. I think it's misleading to say otherwise.

I'm far from an accomplished musician, but have played Bass for years and more recently ~10 years ago started dabbling in guitars both electric and acoustic. I go to Guitar Center at lunch and play the expensive Gibson's, Martin's, Taylor's, etc. and suprisingly this guitar sounds better than some of the $1,000 dollar taylor's and Martin's. Good lows, crisp highs really remarkable for a guitar that cost my $120.00 including delivery and a nice gig bag.

I bought this used through ebay, the seller had it set up great, nice low action for an acoustic with no buzzing, the coating looks fine and the color is the natural mahogany.

~10 years with regularity, I've owned arch tops(Washburn HB35, )bass (Peavey Cirrus 5 string) guitars (G&L Legacy) All of the above I got for great deals used. Aside from the Peavey Cirrus, this is most pleasantly suprised I've ever been a guitar, it's quality, sound, playability and looks are terrific. I bought this guitar based on the feedback I've read here, so Thank you to all who wrote in about this guitar It truly is an INCREDIBLE BUY. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GUITAR.

Apparently, a limited run guitar made for Mars Music that Musician's Friend bought for what must have been pennies on the dollar (read: supply is finite). Mahogany throughout, fully bound top/back/neck, die cast tuners (that really work). It may be Chinese made, but that shouldn't detract (for anything other than political/economic reasons).

Action was a bit high for my taste - simple fix. Poly finish is flawless, if not a bit heavy for some - though it does nothing to harm the sound. Amazing quality (for the money).

About a year or so ago I decided that my next guitar was going to be a Martin D-17 - great guitar, all mahogany, fabulous "Martin" tone for the money (about $1200). So for Christmas this year I stumbled upon the D-100 and have to say that I'm SO glad I never bought the Martin. Not that there's anything wrong with the D-17, it's just that I saved $1100 bucks with the Washburn.
I'm no pro player (30 year amateur), but I used to engineer recordings and know what I like to hear. This is a nice guitar - especially for the money. All things considered, this is a great guitar, not Martin certainly, but if you want another guitar around that you aren't gonna loose sleep over if someone breaths on it the wrong way or if the humidity changes by more than a few percent.
Do yourself (or someone else) a favor and buy this guitar. I put some Elixir 10's on it (BTW I got the dark brown, or "natural" one) lowered the saddle just a bit and can now say I've never owned a nicer sound D-style guitar. In a blind challenge, I'd be willing to say that few would say this guitar, set up properly with good strings, cost less than a $1000.00
If you want a "poor man's D-17" that actually sound damn good, get the Washburn D-100m (while you can.)

I'm a beginner so for me anything will sound good. So I asked one of my friend who is playing Classical Guitar for years for tuning. He played it around and after tuning, it sounded wonderful.
He said it's a "Keeper" and sounds like expensive guitars.
Sound is rich and bright.

it looks solid enough to last a while, lets see
I carry it around holding on the neck. So may be the neck will break soon. I think the fretboard(neck) is not strong enough to support the guitar for long.

This is my first guitar. If it is stolen i'll buy the same as i couldn't find any other better deals after weeks of research online.
I love the finish and the sound. The neck(fretboard) looks weak but may be all guitar has the same thing.
I heard takamine before deciding and Washburn reputation also played some role.

Holy cr*p! This thing really isn't bad. It opens up nicely when you bash out chords. The wood will open up in a decade or so... There is nothing extra special to the sound, but I think I could get away with using this something rootsy where the sound man knew what he was doing... Considering the price it's an absolute 10.0. On the absolute scale there are at least a hundred guitars that blow it away, but not for under a grand or so.

I bought this today. Just got done doing a setup and I am impressed. It really didn't need much attention. When I took the saddle out to sand it down to height, I discovered 2 shims that, when removed, brought it to the exact height I wanted. If this was deliberate, it is bloody brilliant.
I got this guitar at a deep discount because the binding is supposedly coming lose along the neck. Haven't noticed yet. I'll use a drop of Elmer's on it when I find the spot.

I went and got a cheap guitar I could find at a local warehouse for returned and otherwised thrashed items. I am playing tomorrow nite at a Halloween thing for a bazillion screaming kids and it's outdoors and the forecast is ultra-humid, misty, rainy. I didn't want to take my Martin out in that stuff, so I figured I'll get a disposable basher.
Wow - this thing isn't unpleasant to play at all, and that's saying something for a steel string acoustic under a grand. Even the tuners feel solid so far. How could you even sell decent tuners for $59?!
Like another reviewer, I also have an Oscar Schmidt OE-30. On that guitar I had to shim the neck and glue it in place, but it is a beauty now. I get compliments on my sound pretty much every time I play it. I also bought that guitar kinda messed up (at a discount). I hope not too many people catch onto this - you can buy slightly tweaked Washburn guitars for beer money and have a keeper after a few minor repairs. Does Washburn make a budget Tele? LOL
If this guitar falls apart in the mist/rain tomorrow, I may actually go back and get another - if they will still sell me a blem one at this price.
Background: been playing about 20 years, music edu, pro, own lots of $$$ gittars, incl Martin. The Washburn seems like a phenomenal bang-for-the-buck item. Not exceptional on an absolute scale, but nothing crappy about it at all, which is very unusual in sub-$1k territory.
I think if you know you are going to want electronics, you'd better think out your project thoroughly with the help of an experienced tech. A usable pickup and preamp, installed by a pro, are going to cost many times the price of the guitar.

I've been playing for a while. I have an ESP Viper electric, a Lucida Concerto classical guitar(a GREAT guitar),and a Yamaha G235 classical(another GREAT guitar). I am VERY happy with this guitar and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if it went away. I looked at several ALvarezes, a Gretch, and some Epiphones before I decided on the Washburn. I love the playability and the tone that just oozes from this guitar. For the price, it's the bargain of the year. Get one while you can!!
