It's got a round sound, it gets bright bbut has a well balanced bass, not boomy and very defined. It does not need to be plugged to sound big, though an amplifier would be higly recomended as the preamp has much to offer. I compared it with a takamine 12 string and a fender... sincerely, I liked more this guitar's overall sound, the fender one was a piece of crap in sound an manufacture, thoug the takamine had a beautifull heavy sound, bassy not moody and complete... but this washburn got me.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The first thing I look at when purchasing a guitar is the action, the playability, how much effort you need to do to get a pure note... I liked the takamine better... the washburn has a low action, but for a 12 string it really needs to be lower as the pressing force doubles. Somethign I did not like was the way the fingerboard curves and looses the action once you pass the 14th fret... of course it looses a bit of intonation...
The painting and detalis were perfect, not a scratch, not a single defect or loose controls... the batery died after 2 days from purchase. I believe once you get a new guitar one should change strings inmediately but, I will do with the stock ones for a while.
I did not like the stick they put to cover the hole as one needs to be very carefull when taking it out as you can scratch the top of the guitar.
I rate 7 because the action could've been 1mm lower, and for this price the fret balance could've been thought and designed better, however the guitar is beautlifully crafted.

It certainly is well made, the details are built with care and the finish is beautiful. It is an acoustic guitar, so it will last for as long as the owner wants. If you crash it against the floor of course it would break, but normaly used it could do its work for years to come.
A 12 string guitar has more mechanical stress for having about twice the tension on the neck and one's got to be carefull with that, of course it has a more robust wood work inside for this reason...
About having a backup, if you have the money and feel you are Jimmy Page then get another one, but hey, music is not about how many backups you've got, it's about what you do with what you have in your hands at the moment.

I have gone through all of the instruments you may think of... after having played guitar for over a decade I finally decided on getting a 12 string guitar and I don't regret it. Of course, it's got a minimun use compared with a 6 string, the octaves and so are pretty well used for just particular songs and wouln't use it for everyday playing. I wish it was a bit cheaper, but I know I got what I payed for and much more.
I would've liked it to come at leas with a set of new strings and a cable. However they gave me a soft case.
This guitar, offers by far, the richest and purest sound I've heard on an acoustic guitar. Do not get it until you try it first as you may like another one... every taste is difrerent, and do not forget to try it plugged and unplugged...
