I have improved from an Oscar/Schmidt acoustic-electric to a
Morris "Tornado" (Japan's version of the Ovation)acoustic-
electric, and now to the Washburn AE14. It is metallic red (great looking), with a well-balanced equalizer and I ordered the hard
case that matches. It came with high quality strings, but lacks a
pick guard.

As an amateur player (church, camps, etc.) it is highly reliable
and sounds absolutely great! The tone adjustments allow for
quite a variety of playing styles and sounds. It is rich and full
without amps and can vary from tinty highs to broad lows as the
adjustments are made with an amp. Either way the particular
sound desired is achieved as needed.

Other than having to have a major tuning, the guitar came
unscathed, the action is a little low, but with the enclosed hex
key wrench, I'll raise it a little. It came solid without scratches,
or anything loose, and will look and sound professionally
manufactured.

It is relatively light to handle, but solid enough to withstand some
majory strumming, and heavy picking. It will be the main guitar
for all my uses and I will not consider the need for a backup. I
will drill one hole to add a strap knob below the base of the
neck. It should have been built with one. This guitar is built to
last, and I look forward to its continued uses.

It does come with the standard limited warranty, and the way it
has arrived and has played, I do not foresee any need for the
warranty use. I purchased the guitar reasonably from Musicians
Friend.com, and all questions were handled prior to purchase
and the delivery time was less than 1 week. I am impressed by
the whole experience

I've only had it for 3 weeks and have had a lot of fun learning its
playing ability, experimenting with various amplified sounds,
and building even more callouses on my fingers. I am trully
sold on this guitar. For the price (list value $599) I couldn't have
asked for anything better. I had played a Washburn of a friend's
prior to investing, and had also compared Washburn with other
guitars (Epiphone, Takamine) and for my talent and needs, this
guitar meets or exceeds all my expectations.

Unplugged - frankly I'm surprised by how good it sounds. For a small-bodied, slightly thin acoustic, this thing sounds great - comparable to a Tacoma Chief (or is it Chieften?) I played at a local music store, of course that guitar's a grand, and I hated the skinny neck. It is what it is, but acoustically, it's well-balanced and warm but resides more in the lower-midrange - I don't find it tinny or unpleasant in the least. Perfectly acceptable. Plugged...the electronics are just what you want for a piezo - 3 band eq with a presence control (and volume, of course) - and the controls actually work well, so you can shape your tone however you want. Yes, there can be some high-end piezo-ish...harshness?...but, again, if you eq it right, it's not a problem. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by the acoustic sound - better than I could have hoped for - and the plugged sound is what you'd expect...but of course there are better things on the market, just not at this price.

The action's a bit high, but not too bad, and I like it that way. The neck on this guitar is really different - it's wide and chunky, with string spacing like a "fingerstyle" guitar. For me, it's nice because it's different from my other guitars, and when I'm playing an acoustic, I want it to feel like an acoustic - none of this "try to make the neck feel like an electric" BS. I'd say the neck isn't for everybody, but I like it. I adjusted the truss rod after changing strings to mediums, the intonation seems to be fine.
There's a small thin spot in the finish on the interior edge of the soundhole, and the line along the neck binding is slightly sloppy in places, but nothing that's a big deal or all that noticeable. The blue finish is really striking, and more subtle than I thought it would be. Very cool, and it definately gives it a unique look.
I'd say the tuners are a bit on the cheap side - bend a lot of notes and it can go out slightly, but for just strumming, etc, they're fine. I may end up replacing them, I'm not sure yet. Again, for $150, I'm not complaining, and the fact that I'm not sure about replacing them means they can't be too bad. :)

I've only owned it a month, so some of this is based on past experience. I have another cheap Washburn dreadnought that I've owned for about 17 years - it's built like a tank and has mellowed into a pretty nice sounding guitar. That was a big part of my willingness to give this one a shot. I think Washburn makes quality products. We'll see about this one, but I have no reason to think it won't age gracefully as well.

$150? I bought this thing on a whim because I wanted an acoustic with built-in electronics for the acoustic-rock group I play in. For this price I couldn't be happier. It really does sound nice acoustically and plugged in, and it's fun to play. I've been playing for somewhere around 20 years and own several other electrics and acoustics. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an acoustic-electric is because I think that most acoustics sound OK at best in live situations, no matter what they are. If it sucked I'd return it, but it doesn't, and it's better than "good enough". If I had to replace it, I'd probably shop around or wait for MF to put it on sale again, not sure. As far as I'm concerned, this was a steal.

2002 Meatllic red finish. Made in China (?) and although wish it were made in the USA it's very well put together. 21 frets on a bound rosewood fingerboard. Electronics allow control of volume, presence, treble, middle and bass. I'm very happy with the electronics. It even came with a battery installed.

This guitar is just what I was looking for. Being a school teacher, I often play with the choir and other events at school. I was looking for a well built AE type that allowed good tone without worrying about the inevetible "scratch and dents" the happen in a school environment.
Music played is everything from folk to rock to blues....and this guitar does it all. Sounds best plugged in, it aint no dedicated acoustic but it has an OK tone when un-plugged.
The acoustic tone is what you'd expect for a thin body (Martin OM cut away style) that has a thick paint job allplied.....thin and "tinny" unless strummed pretty hard. But I expected that.
Plugged in, it sounds rich and full.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Action is a little higher than I usually like, but it comes with a wrench to adjuct the neck and I'll tweek it soon.
The finish is perfect. Not a single flaw to be found. It sparkels and the "Gumby" head is finished to match the body.
The only flaw with the guitar is that the low E string peg pulls out of the bridge when tuning the guitar. A little masking tape and a tap fixed it.

I think this guitar will stand up to the rigors of hard playing. It's built like a tank. I wish it had a strap button on the body/neck junction though.....it's kinda hard to slap this red beauty on using a strap that attaches to the headstock....oh well.....

Been playing for over 20 years...just a hack really, but love guitars and know what plays well and what doesn't. This guitar is a winner!
My fingers are already sore from playing it so often.
Wish it came with a case or gig bag but you can't have everything.
I can't believe what a good guitar this is for the price....

2002 model. Made in China. Maple body, rosewood fretboard. Active EQ (bass, middle, treble), presence, volume, and low battery indicator. Piezo under bridge pickup. Thin cutaway body style. Beautiful dark metallic blue finish on body and headstock. 1/4" and XLR jacks. Gotoh, Grover style tuners. Great feeling, bound neck. Included electric guitar cable and truss rod wrench. Lifetime warrenty.

It suits my music style very well. I play a little bit of everything. I run it straight into a PA, EQ set to 0 on each band with a little presence. It is very clean sounding, not noisy at all. It has a great, rich/full sound plugged in. Unplugged it is not very loud due to the maple constuction and thin body style. You can get a wide variety of sounds plugged in, nice electronics.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The finish is nearly flawless. I have no complaints. Action is pretty good for an acoustic. Intonated well. Frets are all good. I can't find anything wrong with it. Only thing I will change are the stings to my brand of choice and gauge. I might then tweak the truss rod if it needs it.

This guitar will and is withstanding live playing. The harware seems like it will last. I love the finish on this little guitar. It only has the one strap button on the bottom, so unless you want to tie around the headstock you might want to install or have another one installed. I can depend on this guitar. I would use it on a gig without a backup.

I have picked on a guitar all my life, as long as I can remember. Really became serious about it around 12 years old, I am now 30 years old. I own numerous guitar gear. I bought this guitar because I was tired of putting a soundhole pickup and/or using a mic on/in my Guild acoustic. I have no regrets about the purchase of this guitar. I love everything about it for what I wanted it for. I would buy it again. A built in tuner would have been even a bigger plus. Don't buy this guitar if you want a big, fat, unplugged dreadnaught acoustic sound. Do buy if you want a nice sounding little guitar to plug into an amp or PA or to record with. For the money, I don't think it can be beat.

I think this guitar was made in 2001. It has 21 frets. The body is made of maple. It has a cutaway for getting to the bottom of the neck easily. It also has a rosewood fretboard, It also has sealed die-cast tuners. Mine is blue, but I think you can also get it in red. It has a Equis 3 band active EQ , and also has a volume and presence control. It has an under-bride piezo pickup too, which i like a lot. It also has sealed die-cast tuners. My guitar came with a cable, I wish it would have come with a case, but you cant ask for everything.

I love the sound of this guitar. It's perfect for my rock style. I mostly just play unplugged with it, so havent got to hear the electric part that much. It's not exactly full body, but it's pretty close.

My guitar came straight from the factory. My Dad, bought is from musiciansfriend.com. There was one small blemish on the front, but is not noticeable unless looking perfectly in the light. The action on the guitar might be a little high, but it can be easily adjusted.

Like I said, I have not had the guitar very long...but from what I see, I feel like it will last for a very long time, because it has a lifetime warranty. There is no pickguard, but I have found that it is hard to scratch the finish. The only thing that I would like to add (like most acoustic-electric guitars) would be a strap button to the "heel" of the guitar, but it is not a problem for me right now, because i am not gigging with it yet, but when i do, i would probably use it without a back-up...

I have not had to deal with them, and i do not feel like i will ever need to, because i think they have confidence in this guitar, which is probably why they gave it a lifetime warranty...

This is my first acoustic-electric. I've only been playing for about a year. Well, i've been playin longer than that, but thats how long ive been taking lessons. I used to always play on my dad's strat and his old ovation (which is very nice). If it were stolen or lost, I'd try to find it, but if i couldnt, I would just get a new one. There is nothing that i hate on this guitar. I love it, but like i said, i wish it had a strap button.

This guitar is a 2001 Washburn Ea-14 acoustic-electric cut-away. It was made in China. It has a red sparkle finish. No pickguard. It has an Equis Extra preamp. It has volume, presense, treble, middle, and bass. The neck is maple and the body is handcrafted. It has 21 frets. The guitar didnt come with anything. I really love the look of the guitar.

I am a punk player, but I like to have a guitar to just practice on. This guitar is perfect for that. I had a Fender acoustasonic amp but I traded it for something else because it just didnt work to good with this guitar. The amp totally buzzed when you had the volume past five so I just got rid of it. It was worthless. The sound on this guitar is beautiful. It has a nice trebly sound when not plugged in. I wish it had more bass. I like the sounds it produces when plugged into an amp. Very rich tones.

This guitar is a perfect guitar to play in front of people. It would definetly withstand live playing. The finish is perfect. I have had this guitar for about 7 months and it has not scratched yet. You dont really need a pickguard, because pick scratches dont show up unless you look really close. I can depend on this forever. I would use this in a gig if I had to.

I have been playing for around 6 years. I also own a Fender Tom Delonge Signature Strat, a Samick-strat copy, a Crate GFX212T, and a Crate GX-15. If this guitar was lost I would probably save up money and buy it again. I love the finish on the guitar. It looks so cool. I bought this guitar because of its looks, but I got a good deal because it sounds great too. Great guitar
