Follow up One year later:
After a 30 year absence from playing I am just beginning to play well enough to get "Paying" gigs
Having had my Wechter Pathmaker for about a year now I have a more comprehensive view.
I play Open Mic nights four to five nights a week ( acoustic covers of Beatles, British invasion bands, Neil Young Johny Cash ect,) .
This guitar has been a Great help in my attempt to return to the music scene. At open Mic nights we tend to try each others guitars for comparrison. From a" playing" standpoint my Wechter has by far the Best neck and fret board. I've been told on more than one occasion
by other guitarists that it is much like the Gibson Les Paul which I believe Abe Wechter used to make for Gibson. I had a hard time at first with The Pathmakers three pickup system. I couldn't get the wooden, acoustic sound I wanted out of it. And putting a mic on it was worse.
The thing sounded too bright with no bottom. Eventually a sound guy / player showed me how to make the proper settings and now it's fine.
My New favorite" Sounding" guitar is the all Mahogany Martin D15 with a mic on it (No pickups) Perfect for the stuff I play. I borrow my friends D15 whenever possible. But the neck is a bit too wide for comfort. Which brings me back to the Wechter. I brought my Pathmaker to my local music store just last week to have it adjusted and set up. It's like a whole New guitar now and plays even better than when I got it. from the factory. Some day I'll save up and add a Martin D15 (about $950 new) to my stable but it couldn't replace the Wechter as a sturdy, reliable workhorse that plays like an electric.
