Wechter/Scheerhorn 6535-R: Rob Ickes signature model squareneck spider bridge resonator guitar. Made in China with final setup in US.

Finish: Laminate spruce top, laminate rosewood back and sides
Frets: 19 simulated frets (maple inlay)
Internal construction: Scheerhorn type open soundwell with baffle
Soundholes: Round sound holes with screenless rings
Accessories: I bought mine used with an excellent hard case which I believe is sold with this model as standard.
Body: I believe the instrument has an R body. It tapers towards the sligtly towards the neck.
Neck: Squareneck-the neck is slightly more rounded than on other squarenecks I have played.

The only reason there is not a 10 is the heavy import spider and lack of a Quarterman cone.

Sound : 9
The instrument has a huge dynamic range. Subtle blues sounds are wonderful played softly, but then the baffle and open soundwell allow for immense volume, easily as loud as National tricones which are generally louder than dobros.

It has a full, bright sound perfect for modern bluegrass styles. The sound is at times more reminiscent of a regular acoustic guitar than a resophonic. The instrument is also perfect for Hawaiian.

I feel however that the instrument could sound better with the correct parts which is why I cannot give it a 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The setup was excellent, only limited by the less than perfect internal components.

The action is very high, which allows for more volume from the instrument.

The only criticism is the "pickguard".. Initially I liked the idea, but it is little more than a cheap sticker. It is only there to give the instrument a look more like Rob Ickes's Scheerhorn.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The instrument seems well enough made to last a long time.
The finish seems excellent and I don't have a problem with it.
All the hardware (save for the internal) seems of a good quality.
I am not a performer, but if I were I would certainly gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought used.

Overall Rating : 9
This instrument was less than three months old when I bought it used.

I would buy another one if I had the money and if it were lost.

My only real problem is the lack of a good spider and Quarterman.

Despite that, for the price, even new, it would an excellent instrument for any dobro player.
