Mahogany wood w/ screens

I use to own a Gibson Dobro Houndog squareneck (U.S.A. made) and it does not sound as good, but pretty close. The Hound dog is a bit louder, and maybe a little crisper. Figuring that, this Wechter cost about half of the Gibson and the sound of this Scheerhorn import is great for itself. I hear the maple models have more bite, but then add a couple hundred $$$ again. I suppose when I get bored I will put a Lebeda cone & spider in it and see how it does. But for the money this set up is satisfactory.

I LIKE THIS GUITAR, IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY, but it screams IMPORT!!!
It must be the poly nuclear war finish that seems to end up on all these Asian made instruments (dip and dry). It was set up in the states though, and I can tell. Everything is centered and straight. I can't find any flaws. I just hate those gloss import finishes. I took out the screen rings and removed the screen portion and found the guitar got louder. This also gave me a chance to peak inside. I liked what I saw. Very clean, and neat. Healthy bracing and support poles, No glue runs either. There is also this nifty baffle projecting the sound into the screen holes. I'm so impressed with everything else that I forget about the High gloss finish that I hate. So I give it a ten.

As long as the neck stays attached this dobro will last a long time.
I would send this back if I did not think it would last a gig on its own, and I'm keeping it.

Wechter did us dobro players a big favor. They offer a line of different guitars w/ different price ranges and still made the cheapest one a nice one. Good looks , good sound, good features, good price. I will admitt that the Gibson hound dog (U.S.A. made) sounds better but for twice the price , I'd rather own the Scheerhorn.
