Handmade by Dave, a great constructed guitar. I got an extra pup added in the bridge and that provides some nice additional sounds to an already insanely versitile instrument. The tranduscer system is marvellous, wide range of sounds easy to choose from thanks to the clever switchin system.

I play everything from acoustic type of songs to metal and this guitar handles them all....it of course masters the jazzy and acoustic tones but with it's rich and full sound it handles distortion really nice and lets each note in a chord ring true.

Being in Sweden I had shipping and taxes added to the price but it's still probably the best buy I have ever made. It's worth everything I paid for it and then some!! This is a unique instrument and to my knowledge there is no other brand that comes close to rival Wendler Guitars at this type of guitars.
If something would happen to this instrument I would order a new one right away.

I originaly bought this guitar (actually Dave Wendler made it for me, custom work at it's finest)back in April. I had been jamming with some friends in Lawrence, Ks and one of the guys told me, " Don't leave town until you stop by Dave's place and try out his guitars". I'm so glad I did ! Dave is an old friend but I'm very picky about my guitars and wanted to see for myself. The features already outlined, the piezo bridge pickup and a Kent Armstrong humbusker in the bridge with a paasive control that allows you to go from acoustic to instant electric. The body wood is a very pretty grained red cedar and with the ebony fingerboard and corbola tailpiece and headstock combined with a tortiseshell pickguard it's very stunning. It is as light as a feather and after years of having a slab of wood draped over my shoulder this is a dream to play. Dave will carve the neck of your choice and I selected a shorter scale since I ordered it with some definite playing circumstances in mind. More about that later.
The controls are simple, input jack, volume and a knob to rollback between the piezo and humbucker all located at the back end of the pickguard. It's extremely convenient to drop your pinkie down and pull in the sound you're looking for instantly.
This guitar is amazingly light but at the same time it's as strudy as a rock, I have no fear that it won't standup.

I originally bought this guitar with the idea of using the acoustic capabilities for a duet act with the singer from my five piece Blues band. I liked the idea of a great acoustic sound without micing or feedback problems. I brought it to a band rehearsal where the normal working horse guitars are an ASAT and Gretch Brian Setzer. I needed a fast change from the Asat to the gretch but the gretcsh was having tuning problems that night with high humidity, so I picked up the Wendler guitar. The whole band stopped and just listened as I put it through some paces. Although it didn't reproduce that classic gretsch sound the rich full archtop sound it produced was awesome. I had really debated dragging the Gretsch around particularly for summer outdoor festival work but the Wendler took over the band working duties from that night on and I've never looked back.

This guitar was built for me by Dave and he kept in close contact with me as it was being built. I had some special detailing needs and dave worked with me and produced them beautifully. I received it on the day originally promised and I went over it with a fine tooth comb, it was perfect and the detailing looked better than I had hoped. The action is fast and intonation is pefect up the neck. It stays tuned due to the very good tuners Dave uses.
This guitar when it's at home will sit among six or seven other guitars, including ASAT Deluxe Semi Hollow, the Gretsch, and other assorted very nice guitars. Whenever anyone new comes over to jam they invariably go straight to the Wendler with a " Dude , what is this one" expression and everyone insists on playing it. From then on it's a struggle to get it back so I can play it myself.
I've got a couple of buddies trying to figure out how they can convince their wifes to let them get one.

I have used this guitar at over twnty gigs this summer and I've never once worried about it not holding up. Between this and the G&L I feel I have some of the most well made and durable guitars available today to a working musician.

I've known Dave for over 25 years ( oh my gawd !), He was my guitar serviceman of choice for years until I moved away. In any event I would trust him with any guitar work that needs doing right. But even Dave was way beyond the call of duty when he built my guitar. WE stayed in contact throughout the process and he made some wise suggestions towards the options. The guitar was deliverd exactly when promised and he followed up with periodic calls to make sure I was still in love it. He needn't worry, I was but I know if anything ever goes wrong he'll take care of it in a hearbeat.

I've been playing for over 40 years and currently own around twenty guitars. Many are investments but guitars are meant to be played. I often rotate the guitars on a weekly basis to just enjoy each one, the Wendler has never left the rotation and I don't believe it ever will !

Features...WOW..
I bought this guitar when my beloved Godin A6 signed by tim reynolds was stolen ( right from my damn room).. I was kind of hesitant to by a guitar at random on the internet. but speaking to dave, hearing the CD he sent me, and his website influenced me enough to go ahead and give it a shot.
I got the cheaper model version, i think its the mod, cant remember, becuase i couldnt afford the more expensive one.... I did however get acustom Blue Green Sunburst somewhat like my old Godin ( though this finish is mUCH nicer!) ... and the upgraded sperzel tuners.
the tailpeice on this instrument is truely beautiful... i also got the standard 'strat' neck..not too bad...
this instrument is so light... the body is very thin, but the sound it gets from it is unreal.....

Wow.
I was looking for something simliar to my godin---but this sounds way better! I can get soo many tones.i right now just am running it through my marshall 100 watt amp.... can get a good acoustic sound or a heavy electric with distorition if needed....
the lows are nice, highs make it sound like a damn nice guitar, and its just really a well balanced expensive sounding guitar....
How does it sound so damn good ?and
HOW IS IT MADE FOR SO CHEAP !?!

no batteries needed !!
the 2 bias/volume knobs are conviently placed on the pickguard-- along with the instrument jack.. which is helpful...
finish seems pretty good, though the wood is red ceder which i think will cheap easily...better keep it in its case or on the wall !
i would most defiantly use it without abackup...

Just bought my Wendler less than a month ago, and I love it !!!Dave Wendler is a STRAIGHT-UP guy, you call or email him, tell him how you want your Wendler , and he does it. His guitars are made from solid cedar, which he carves into this COOL shape. Mine came with 2 Kent Armstrong Thinbuckers, which are VERY FLEXIBLE, I play a WIDE variety of music and they cover it all. It also has Dave's own design of piezo under the bridge, which, in a way I don't understand ( and don't need to)gives you GREAT acoustic tone with no pre-amp. Yep, NO battery. And all this in guitar that only weighs 4.5 pounds. This is the MOST awesome piece of art/musical instrument that I have ever owned. I got mine with a beautiful birdseye maple neck/board, the standard comes with rosewood. If you want EVERYBODY that sees your guitar to say WOW where the HELL did you get that, then this one's for you. Its unreal... to say the least.

There is a bias pot that rolls back and forth between the magnetic and piezo pickups. He has it placed where you can roll it with your pinky, as well as the volume. There is also a switch to turn the piezo on and off, but I dont use it much, the piezo is sensitive to the click of the switch, and the knob works as well and is real easy to get used to. The piezo has a very full sound and is not quite as loud as the magnetic pickups. Because of that, I hardly use the volume control, just bias back and forth between the pickups. The jazz humbuckers give you a FULL jazzy sound, BIG like a hollowbody archtop, but when I kick in my distortion they sing long and loud.GREAT sustain. I've found my Marshall AVT 50 amp to sound best with all the pickups so far, on the clean channel. I've got a pedalboard full of stuff to dirty it up with. I'm still trying options on pedals that sound best, think I may opt for a Jacques Fuseblower a little further down the road. I have to turn my amp up a little louder than I did with my Shadow S140, since the Wendler has passive pickups, but thats no problem.

This is the WEIRDEST most wonderfully designed guitar I've ever had. I opted for the small body style, which is kind of like a melted Les Paul/Tele combo out of a Salvador Dali painting. Soooo cool...Dave, you're the MAN.! I may raise the bridge pickup JUST a HAIR, for a little more bite, but again, thats no problem.

Everything is solid on this guitar, LOVE the finish...LOVE the weight, if you get one get the Sperzel tuners, theyre lighter, and believe me, with this guitar OUNCES make a difference. The single pickup model with normal tuners would probably almost ne topheavy. But the price is only 599.00 for the basic, the sperzels are only 30.00 extra, the extra pickup only 100.00 , and mine is balanced perfectly !

The only problem I've had was the switch between the pickups caused the piezo to quit intermittently, I called Dave, he's sending me spare switches AND pots...what a guy !!!

In the 39 years I've been playing guitar, I've never seen or felt ANYTHING like this one. If it were stolen I'd call Dave TODAY and get him started on my next one. The only thing I can't figure out about Dave is WHY HE SELLS THEM SO CHEAP !! He must do this out of LOVE, becuase these things are worth WAY MORE than he charges. It does my heart good to know there are still guys out there like him, who perform their craft out of LOVE for it, and not out of GREED.
