According to the serial number, this guitar was made in Dec. of 1998 It has a solid spruce top, with mahogany back and sides, along wioth a rosewood fingerboard, and a mahogany neck. Classic dreadnought style, with a gloss Vintage Red Sunburst finish. The tuners are gold plated Grover style. This guitar was made in Taiwan, and features an Abalone sound hole rosette, and body top abalone binding. Simple dot inlay in the neck, and a tortoise shell style pickguard. The bound neck profile is typical for a dreadnought guitar.

I likes it! I play a little bit of a lot of different music styles, and sometimes incorporate two or more styles together to make a new sound. I like hammer ons, and pull ofs, to get the individual style I require....This guitar is dynamic, and capable of very good volume, the tone is balanced, and not boomy in the bass, or tinny and nasal in the mids and highs. It is very good for finger style picking.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
There was not an issue with the setup, she was good to go from the box. The top is nicely done with the sunburst , wood quality very good, and the back of the neck has some flame in the grain. The bridge is stained dark, and the pins have an abalone inlay in the button. I found only a minor flaw in the binding on the body of the guitar, and it is very small, can,t see unless you are looking thru a magnifying glass. The saddle is compensated, and the nut was cut for a low action.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is built like a tank, only issue here is the gold plating will disappear quickly from the tuner knobs. This guitar will last a lifetime with proper care. I haven't used the strap buttons. The finish seems durable.

Customer Support : 8
The guitar guru at Yamaha has always answered my questions straight forwardly, and to the point. I don't know how long the warranty is for. I don't expect to use warranty service.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing for 40 years. I own other guitars, but I am not going to list them. I would try to find another if this one was missing, but they are discontinued. I love the classic look of the sunburst finish, and the tone suits me just fine. She is not perfect, but the quality of workmanship rivals more expensive guitar, for sure. The sound Is dynamic, clear, balanced, and the playability of this little guitar is super...
