I was given this guitar as a birthday present some 24 years ago..so that would be about 1978..this is your basic acoustic guitar...with a dreadnought body style...not as full bodied however. I was under the impression the top was Spruce, but other reviewers stated laminate. A good looking guitar that has aged better than I have!

Sound : 7
I'm a finger picker. I play a lot of old Heart, Fleetwood Mac, folk music and blues etc. I use med guage silk/steel strings and have the action set so low you could blow on it and play. The sound projects nicely. Not as full bodied as I would have liked, but it's done the job over the years. I will say this guitar lacks the ability to produce the crisp sound I prefer..but all together for the price...it sound great!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action was super high from the factory. It was discouraging trying to learn to play that way. But they no longer make this guitar, so you won't have to worry about that...it's probably been adjusted down if you buy a used one. The finish on this guitar is terrific. My guitar looks and sound better today than the day I bought it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Reliable. Durable. Period!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it. But I am sure Yamaha would come through with flying colors!

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing 24 years and recently purchased a 314 GA Taylor. I had been looking for another guitar for a long time, but honestly couldn't find anything that sounded that much better than my old Yamaha FG335! No lie! If it were stolen, I would be lost. That's my baby and always will be. I love it's durability! If you are a beginner, this is the perfect guitar! If you are lucky enough to find a used one that someone is willing to let go of.....get it!

Made in the late 1970s when I bought it new. They originally wanted about #120 (GB) but I eventually managed to haggle them down to #85! Its a basic Japanese laminated top acoustic - no frills but very nice to use.

Sound : 8
It has always worked well and suits the soprts of things I play - dfrom fingerpicked folksy stuff to accoustic rock. I use light gauge strings and can bend notes quite easily. The sound isn't that full (=but what would you expect with light strings?!?)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It was nicely set up from new, but I've trimmed the bridge and nut and improve the action significantly. Its a testament to the guitar that it was able to take this andstill works well - and it now has a better action than I've seen on some eletrics. It was very nicely made and I've fortunately been able to keep it that way.

Reliability/Durability : 10
After 30 years and no complaints? Its a cracker - dependable, keeps its tune well - you can pick it up and just use it.

Customer Support : 9
Knowing Yamaha, the support would be excellent - but I've never even had to approach them.

Overall Rating : 9
OK, it was never going to be a Martin or a Takamine. But, as a basic useable guitar for messing around on, its been brilliant. With the tweaks to the action I've made, I'd happily recommend it (or, more accurately, recommend Yamaha). Even trying ithe accoustics, at far, far more money than I paid, its holds it own. Nuff said.

This is your standrard, no-frills acoustic guitar. It's got everything you need: a body, fretboard, strings, etc. BUT, there's more to it than it's deceptively simple appearance...

Sound : 10
I basically play ballady kind of stuff and this guitar has a warm, rich sound. I find that using meduim gauge strings on this box yields the best tone witout hampering payabilty.
One day, a buddy of mine was commenting on how great this guitar sounded but added in a comment, "It's only a Yamaha though. There's no way that it would sound as good as my '65 Martin". My initial reaction was, "Of course", but...I just had to take him up on his challenge. :)
He brought his guitar with him the next day. We set up a mic in the studio and literally did a blind A/B comparison. I played the exact same riff on both guitars, out of his view and asked him to pick out which was his Martin. In the five tests that we did, he picked the Yamaha every time. No lie. That is one of the reasons I gave this guitar a 10. I love the tone and the test was the icing on the cake. I know all guitars are not the same so everybody's milage will vary but I'm totally pleased.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I bought this used so it wasn't in the greatest shape. There was a lot of old gunk on the fretboard and a few belt buckle scratches on the back. The action was also very high due to a bowed neck, probably due to poor storage. After a good cleaning and a minor truss rod adjustment, it was almost as good as new. To give a rating on this wouldn't be completely fair though because the condition of the guitar was not the fault of Yamaha.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar has been everywhere and then some. It's dependable and rugged and stays in tune really well. Although not having a back-up is a not a great idea, I feel comfortable enough that I could go without a back up, if I were in a bind.
The only concern that I have is that screws are loose on the truss rod cover, due to wear and tear. The guitar is about 15 or 16 years old.

I feel that I really lucked out buying this guitar. I've checked the Yamaha website and they're no longer producing the FG-335. If it were stolen, I'd be extremely pissed because I obviously can't replace it. For a lower end acoustic, it's been to hell and back and stood up to it. Yes, it's not a Martin, but to me, it's close enough...

I bought this used at a pawn shop because I needed a new "beater" guitar. It's a basic model acoustic, attractive, but no fancy stuff on it.

Sound : 8
The sound is what sold me on this guitar. The highs are bright and clear (if maybe somewhat "brittle"), and the lows are rich and mellow. Fingerpicked, the sound is comparable to some low-end Taylors I've played. Strummed, the tone muddies a bit, but the sound is still quite good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
No flaws that I can see. Appears to be very well made.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is a 20 year-old guitar, and it is still in fine fine shape. I'm sure it's been around the block a time or two. I've put a few dings in it myself (clumsy me). I don't think my rather fragile Seagull will look or play this nice after 20 years.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing 17 years (since I was a teen). I've owned a Sigma (my first guitar), a Larrivee, a Seagull, and I've played MANY other brands and models. For the price and the durability, this guitar is tops! They don't make them anymore, but if you see one used for a good price, it would make an excellent guitar for a beginning player, or a good second guitar for an advanced beginner. It has enough sound quality to satisfy most casual guitar players, and is FAR SUPERIOR to any of the low-end models being sold these days.

This is a basic dreadnought accoustic guitar with very few frills. Very good finish and quality binding

Sound : 6
I use this guitar with a Lawrence pickup and a DOD acoustic processor. Alone, it sounds ok. Through the gear, any guitar would sound good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The only complain that I have is that the neck is like holding a 2x4.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I have had this guitar for about for about 7 years and with regular string changing it has done the job for me. I rarely use an acoustic any more, but when I need it on stage, it works when I need it

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it.

Overall Rating : 7
I have playd for over 25 years and have owned many guitars. This is the fourth acoustic that I have owned. The only reason that I bought it was that my '73 takaminie was smashed. If it were lost or sotlen I would probibly be on the hunt for a new Martin or Taylor. This is a good low cost guitar but that is about it.
