This is a late 70??s model. I like the way bindings, finishes are done and the elegant Yamaha tortoise pickguard, but what i really like is the slotted headstock, a tasteful and ergonomic built choice on a 12 string.
If this model woods are laminate or not, doesnt matter at all,
i know several all solid that not sound this beautiful.
I think Yamaha make excellent wood choices laminate or solid.
Back and sides looks as nice as real brazilian rosewood, top nicely aged spruce orange tone.
Headtuners are precise and good quality with cream plastic pegs.

I use mine to record and compose, it has a rich and full sound....people tent to quiet and listen when i start to play this guitar, it has that "breath taking" quality, wich is amazing on this price.
Intonation is perfect.
I just upgraded the saddle to bone made, always a must on any acoustic, later will try tusq nut and saddle too.

I purchased mine used and the previous owner was very careful due to sell it from his private collection, the bridge was lowered to allow a 2.5mm action, so it can be played easily and have no buzzes! The frets are medium size wich is harder to get a perfect fretboard, but Yamaha guitars are usually very accurate.

I play for 2 decades and have a great vintage guitar(most classic brands) gear collection.
If youre looking to purchase a beautiful sounding twelver, grab one of these if youre lucky to happen to come across one, trust me, its not an expensive one and sings tastefully.
If one day i find another 12 string, wish it have a slotted headstock as well, but this one is a keeper on any working collection.
