I bought this guitar to have something decent hanging on the wall, and use around the house that I wasn't afraid of dinging.
I play a lot of hard hit, chord type of Americana songs, and I play a LOT....several hours a day.Pop,Punk,Folk,Blues etc.
This Model seems to be more in the Low Mid to Upper Mids in EQ Focus, a lot like the Taylor EQ spectrum. It has a nice tight chordal punch and is plenty bright.
It is decently loud. My only 'complaint' might be that it could stand to open up on the bottom end more, but I don't think any Mahogany or HPL backed/sided guitar really sounds like that, so I might be being a bit harsh.
This is a really decent Low end acoustic.
I won't comment on the pick-up section, as I have never liked any of these on board johnnies...

I bought this from a man who had owned it and set it in a stand , barely ever playing it(he was a drummer). Subsequently, it still had a lot of the issues that new guitars have coming out of the store. It had maybe 8 hours of actual playing time on it.
The Action was the usual .. really high and barely playable past the 5th fret.
The Bridge needed to be filed, as did the Nut. The E and A strings weren't seated properly in the nut, and the nut itself was poorly attached.
I had to turn the truss a hair as well.
The frets were end filed haphazardly and I needed to clean out the 'wire jam' at the ends of several of them. All in all, I had to do quite a bit of tweaking to get it to the state it is now in , which is ironically AWESOME...
the neck was straight and the assembly of the neck, bridge and body were good. That was why I bought it. However, if someone who didn't feel comfortable doing those adjustments themselves bought this guitar, they'd probably have to drop 50 or 60 bucks at a guitar shop.
The Finish and cosmetic stuff is really nice. I suppose they spend a bit more time on it to sell the guitar on it's looks. It actually looks really nice and they did a nice job on the 'burst' aka Violin finish.
However, I am in to function over looks so I'm going to have to be a little rough here. Since this is 'Action, Fit and finish' The Zero they get for Action is offset by the 10 for finish so...

After all that work, this thing actually feels pretty solid. I have about 40 hours into playing it and I was thinking that I might actually use this thing for low stress gigs like playing at church for the kids etc. Seems to be a rock and it's tone is growing on me.
Note..Stays in tune ! I can beat on it for an hour and maybe the E and A are an eenth flat. I hit pretty hard and it's being absolutely road worthy.
I think I would just set the pick-up flat if I had to plug in and use my 20 dollar Martin Pre-amp for my EQ

I have been playing for 25 years.
I own a Martin D-16RGT, a Guild D-4, a Fender SRV stratocaster, an Epiphone Les Paul,a Squire '51,and a Michael Kelley Bass. We also own another 10 guitars or so between my sons and I.
I have no regrets about buying this guitar. In spite of it's set-up issues, it is now a rock and I wouldn't sell it for twice what I paid. I love it's feel and reliability. I was thinking of grabbing a 'price point' guitar for a beater, and this is waaay nicer than I expected for the money. If you're looking at buying an entry level guitar, Yamaha always has pretty good deals for the same price as some really cheap guitars.
