Good, albeit light finish, dreanought, enclosed tuners, laminate top, sides, back, but a decent sound, good looking guitar. Light in weight but surprisingly nice. Made in Korea. Came with case and humidifier, certificate of authenticity, picture of Zager, pkg. of extra light D'Arci strings.
Sound

Bright sound for fingerpicking, my style. Buzzing on the bass notes when strumming moderately. This does play easily. Not a killer on the fingers. You can see the carved bridge work done by Zager, and the filed frets. My disappointment has been the dead notes which I need for fingerpicking. You figure when you buy a guitar, whatever the cost, all the notes would be there!

Bought this on the Internet - from dealer who bought out Zager "vault". Dealer had many Zagers up for auction which I watched wisk away. Suddenly a Zager Sigma DM-1 was all that was left. I pounched. I did see the "No returns" policy. Had I bought with Zager way back when, Zager probably would have taken it back. The frets were "up" on the high E string in the 8th, 9th, 10 frets making rough playing. To top it off, I had two "dead" notes on the high E string 8th and 9th fret. I emailed DZjr asking for advice. No reply. I brought guitar to local 87 year old luthier who laughed at me for buying an "EZ"play. "Any guitar can be made an easy player." He fixed it "Did the best I can". The frets are down, no dead notes but still a bit of buzz when strumming normally. I can live with that. 87 year old luthier said, "Who did you say did the set up? The frets were all filed down sloppily. Bring in your Gibson, I'll make it an easy player." Next time no buying at auction unless "RETURN" policy. When auction dealer described guitar as "10" in sound, I thought he meant it!

Hardware, finish, strap button all look good and sturdy. Seems a bit fragile compared to my Gibson solid wood. Time will tell. Came with a Zager case which is sturdy.

Auction dealer said "No returns". I contacted Zagers website for advice - no response. I actually contacted them way before the purchase with a compliment about such positive feedback. Got a Thank you then, seemed like such decent folk. My repair at local luthier cost $70.

I played seriously as a 15-30 year old. Just started playing again as a 50 year old. Wanted something that would be kind to older hands. I have a Gibson J45 which has great sound, warmth and tone but high action. Before I bought this I went to local dealers and tried out Taylor 210, 414c, Martin DM18. I quickly eliminated the Seagulls and focused on the Taylors and Martins. Browsed online for independent names - never tried a Breedlove or a Zager. Both were contenders. I will never buy online again unless there is a "Return Policy". Probably could have bought this guitar for $250 elsewhere. I made a bad deal.

I like this guitar so much, it will probably be played only in small group gatherings, but it extremely well constructed and would probably handle anything. The finish is so pretty I can't bear to let it get scratched. This is a really well made guitar.

Zager Guitars is probably the nicest people you could deal with. How msny other companies let you speak directly with the boss. Call Fender or Ibanez up and ask to speak with the boss. Get the point. You can call Zager Guitars and speak with Dennis Zager himself. All of his guitars have a lifetime warranty. Dont think anyone else offers that.

After playing my Goya classical guitar for thirty years, I began
to realize that my fingers were getting sore. I also began to notice
rattling, and buzzing because the strings were much higher off the
fretboard than when it was new. I searched, and found Zager Guitars,
I purchased a new DM1 acoustic, and was very pleased to recieve it in
only three days. Much to my surprize, I did not have to string it...
or tune it. I took it from the box, and played it all that evening.
My fingers did not hurt, nor did my ears. It was everything that the
advertisement claimed, "easy to play" "quality sound". I would like
to heartily recommend this guitar to anybody who likes to play without painful fingers. Joe Dorsey

My music style is Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby Stills and Nash, and
all the similar performers who don't have to deafen you with noise.
I use NO amps, because I play for myself, friends and family. The
DM1 has very rich and full sound even when being played by me....I stil consider myself a guitar beginner. I am very please with it, and only wish I had found it sooner.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

My DM1 came out of the box like a prize fighter going for a first
round knockout. Not only was it strung, but it was in perfect tune.
I played it for several hours before I even noticed how great it looked. The wood is gorgeous, and the fittings work perfectly.
Just try one on for size, and you will know what I am proclaiming.
Reliability/Durability
:
No Opinion
As far as reliability goes, lets face it. I have only owned it for
about a month. I will say that it is put together very well, and it
leaves me no doubt that it will last, and look as good or better than
other guitars that I have had. When you speak about reliability, how
does your company respond to you when you buy a guitar? Do they just
put the money in the register and another guitar on the shelf. Have
they ever contacted you and asked if there were any problems, or if
you are happy with it? Denny Zager has done that for me....and I am
pretty sure that if a problem should arise, he will accomodate.
I don't do gigs anymore, I play mostly in private, but I like what I
hear from this guitar.

courteous and congenial treatment that I recieve in ordering and in

I have been playing since the mid sixties. I have owned a fender
electric (which must to my dismay I traded in back in the seventies)
on a Goya classical. If it were lost...or stolen, I would cry for
a few days, then call Denny Zager for a replacement. I only wish I
had ordered the case when I bought the guitar. It is somewhat deeper
and therefore mellower in sound than my previous guitar, and as a
result, I cannot fit it in the rather new case I had recently bought
for the last one.

Not familiar enough to answer all these questions but my guitar looks good feels good and sounds good. Frets as good as any guitar can I believe. I tried a $3,000 Martin once and and I can't tell any difference much but then again I am not such a player that I can put one to a real test for comparison.--The great thing about this guitar is that it frets easier than any I ever tried.--Haven't been so excited since I first tasted bubble gum.

BlueGrass/gospel--Perfect for me. No amps. Sound is great. There is nothing that I don't like about this guitar. I could have saved about $150 buying this guitar at the guitar store without the Zager modifications but I am glad I took a chance and spent the extra money. The Sigma/Martins at the guitar store don't fret like this one. I am somewhat of a beginner and picked up a guitar after about 20 years not fooling with it. If I had this guitar 20 years ago I don't think I would have put it down. I am far from a great guitar player so I can't say what kind of sounds it can make but I will let a pro take a look at it in a couple of weeks and get an opinion on the guitar in general.

This is where this guitar really shows it's self. Besides being a Martin, after it leaves the Zager co. it has been transformed into a instrument that cannot be described with words. The action, the fit, the set-up, you must experience it to understand. No more acoustic fingers. The easiest guitar to play, easier than my Alvarez/Yairi or any other I've picked up in my 40+ years of playing. Great for beginners and time worn players like myself. If this guitar were an electric acoustic, I would have no problem putting it right up equal to my 68 Strat as far as the ease of playing and set-up.

This guitar has an awsome sound, thanks partly to the "String Science" of Denny Zager. The guitar has a full sound, and what I like the most is it has that 50's-60's sound, not common in acustics. Volume will fill the room with a deep and strong highs with great low and high balance. Astonishing.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Finish was excellent, tight tuners. Denny zager modified this guitar by lowering the strings and widening the string spacing. No more sore fingers, no more finger fatigue, and no "Buzzing". You have to play it to believe it. I can finally enjoy playing this instrument to its fullest capacity. Neck was straight as an arrow, perfect string tension and precision modified saddle. I am quite impressed.

Everyone knows about the Martin quality, coupled with the Zager mods, you got a killer acustic. All hardware appears to be tight and quite functional, great finish that seems to be quite durable, nice wide strap buttons. No problems using this instument at a gig with-out a backup-it is built to last.

I purchased this DM-1 from Denny Zager. They are a small family run company that takes pride with their superior customer service. 100% warranty for any reason-now BEAT THAT! The Zager EZ-Play String Science modifications are suited for this guitar, or in fact, ANY guitar. If you are looking for a nice Martin, or a nice drednaught, Denny is on e-Bay also. He has his own line of guitars too!, comprable in quality-modified. You gotta get one of these and play it to appreciate the huge difference between an acustic with standard string placement and Denny Zagers "String Science-EZ Play". I say BRAVO!

this year i turn 50 and i have been playing since i was 9 years old....i grew up in a musical family so loving a guitar came natural. if i lost this guitar i would buy the same guitar....the action is great and modification made to this guitar makes it much easier to play and easy on the fingers....i specifically bought this guitar to give my mom for her birthday--she just turned 75. i have gibson and this guitar sounds better than the gibson....i would recommend anyone purchase a guitar from Zager--if you are not satisfied, you get your money returned and they pay to return it to their company. i am extremely satisfied and will probably buy another guitar in the near future from Zager.....

This guitar has a sound that is unparalleled by any other guitar in the same price range. The tone is rich and full with great sustain. There is no buzz or distortion to in the sound at all. You could easily fill an entire room with sound using this guitar. I recently went to Guitar Center to compare the sound of this guitar to some others...I couldn't find anything that came close, notably a Martin D-35 ($2000) or Martin D-28 (Vintage 1979 - $3000). This guitar sounds great playing any style of music (acoustically)...I have played classic rock, classic/contemporary country, alternative, and punk using this guitar just to name a few.

This guitar was set up by Denny Zager who invented "EZ-Play String Science". The result is a guitar with a very low action, wider string stance, and easy playability. It was perfectly in tune right out of the box. I have been playing it now for a matter of weeks and have not even needed to tweak the tuners...a benefit of the low action. The fit and finish are equally as great. Perfectly bookmatched back and sides with a nice, clear spruce top. All that finshed in a clear high gloss lacquer. Everything is nice and tight, just like it should be...after all, Denny inspects each and every guitar PERSONALLY before it is shipped.

This guitar is definitely built to last a lifetime. First of all, it's a Sigma made by C.F. Martin & Company. The Sigma series is based on the legendary design/quality that has become a hallmark of Martin guitars. As if that doesn't say enough, it's been inspected and hand modified (personally) by master luthier Denny Zager. As a final touch, he puts his name on every one of his guitars (literally -- he signs the back) and offers a 100% Money Back Guarantee as well as a Lifetime Warranty. This is one guitar that you can surely depend on for live playing without a back up.

The company is great to work with...it's just a small family owned and operated business that takes great pride in their products. They strive for customer satisfaction and go to great lengths to achieve that. You get a real good feeling dealing with them because they take a sincere interest in helping the customer, not like a lot of companies that are just trying to turn a quick buck. All their guitars come backed with a Lifetime Warranty, as their site says, "A quality guitar should last a lifetime and if it doesn't, it wasn't a quality guitar to begin with."

I have been playing on and off for a few years, but this guitar is one that I have been playing every day since I received it. I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical at first when I was reading some of the information on the Zager website (http://www.zagerguitar.com)and I thought it seemed to good to be true. However, it is true; everything that their testimonials say is absolutely right. You just can't find a better guitar for the money, and they back that up with their 100% Money Back Guarantee.

Hi Denny, Denny Jr. and all the folks at Zager guitar. I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that I received my new Zager Martin DM - 1 BK guitar two days ago and I can't seem to put it down. As a beginner who has been trying to learn for the past 15 years or so I can't say enough about it. I have always gotten frustrated in the past when I tried to play songs with lots of chord changes. My new Zager Martin EZ play makes those chord changes much easier. I cannot believe how beautiful this guitar looks and sounds. I am confident now that I will practice more and am already sounding better. I will also be signing up for your on line lessons. Thank you for a great guitar, fast shipping and all the extra goodies that you included. I will definitely be purchasing another of your EZ play guitars as soon as possible. Feel free to use any or all of this letter in your testimonials section and use my email address if necessary so anyone who is thinking of buying an EZ play can contact me if they wish. I wish you folks all the best, take care and THANK YOU again.

I have been playing on and off for about 10 yrs. Everything about the guitar was explained in detail on the www.zagerguitar.com website and any questions answered when I called to order. Super fast shipping. I love the EZ play set up done by Mr Zager. I plan to buy another as soon as I can save a little cash. I like it better than my Martin acoustic as far as playability and the sound is nearly as good. I chose it because of the EZ play setup. GREAT GUITAR!!

Made and purchased in 2005. This is a twenty fret dreadnought finished in black lacquer. The back and sides are maple and the top is laminated. The neck is thin with rosewood fingerboard. Denny Zager did an excellent job working this guitar. When he says "easy to play", he's not kidding.

I play a little rhythm and do a little picking. Country and blues mostly. This guitar is a perfect fit for my style. The sound is rich and full with no annoying buzzing or distracting rattle.

Though I have not played as a professional I have seen the level of abuse some amateur guitars have withstood and feel this instrument could easily handle the abuses of civilian life. I can't imagine this guitar needing a back-up, but then can you ever have too many guitars?

You won't ever find a more pleasant purchasing experience. Tony and Denny are very helpful. A down to earth, comfortable, family atmosphere. A very helpful and useful website. I could not be happier with them as a company and feel as though I have made new friends.

I have played for thirty-five years. I have owned Yamahas, Washburns, Ibanez, and Martins. If this guitar were stolen or lost I would have to be hospitalized. The only thing that could bring me back from the near dead would be the knowledge that Denny and Tony could make me another! I love how easy it plays, how carefully the guitar has been worked. Perfect frets, bright clear sound, I wouldn't change a thing!
