Zager ZAD-50 VS

The first thing that caught my eye was the spectacular flawless Sunburst finish with the Mother of Pear around the sound hole and a tortise pick guard. I then started looking at the quality of the wood and its grain. It is constructed of solid wood all around. A Spruce sound board, with Mohogany sides and back with Denny Zager's autograph. The neck is also Mohogany and very slender with a Rosewood fretboard having round pearl inlays and silver hand filed fret bars that look great with the silver Grover tuners. The neck is also adjustable with the supplied allen wrench to adjust the string height and action to your liking. I noticed the bindings around the pararamter of the guitar and neck was an off white that enhanced the overall looks and workmanship. This in my opinion is a custom built guitar that was not produced from a high rate production line. I could smell a hint of glue from within the guitar as it was made fresh for me. The most significant feature was the Rosewood bridge that only high dollar guitars utilize to transfer the sound waves throughout the solid Spruce sound board. Another outstanding feature for a guitar costing 3 times less than many of the high dollar guitars is Denny's ability to engineer a guitar that sounds just as good if not better than more expensive brands. I 'am convenced that through his years of playing and engineering he has produced a perfect combination of design patents that generate great sound. Denny visually inspected and set up my guitar with his knowledge. He utilizes light Martin strings that reduce string forces in combination with internal light weight X-bracing that magnifies the sound waves that flow through the Rosewood bridge, sound hole and thin spruce top to help the sound resonate from it's surface more effectively. I love the fact that his string spacing is farther apart. I could not be happier with my purchase, it sounds great, looks great, and feels great. I can not keep my hands off of it and I know my wife is getting jealous. Even though I purchased one of Denny's cheeper guitars I rate it with tons of engineering features.

This guitar has a rich/full sound that I like very much. I do not have the electonics and just wanted a full size guitar. Adjusting the strings to a very low position changes the sound of the guitar slightly. You can adjust the strings so low that pressing on the back part of the fret generates a slight buzz, but pressing near the front part of the fret is clean, but not as bright sounding. You can definately adjust it for both optimum sound and action.

I love this guitar and can not wait to start Denny's on line lessons. I 'am 50 years old and I purchased an Estaban guitar for my son for Christmas and I played it more than he did. The Estaban guitar looks like a toy compared to Denny's guitar. I found no flaws in Denny's guitar and with the Estaban I had to pay some one to set up the strings so they would be lower. They did not do a very good job, but it made it a little easier to play. I believe Denny produces guitars with very high tolerances that a fast rate production line in China could not possibly produce.

Have not had the Guitar for more than a couple of months. All I can say is made with special care, fit, and finish. I believe this guitar will last a life time. I also believe Denny has the best and fastest customer service I have ever seen. I tried to contact Estaban with the 1-800 number that QVC gave me in regards to the tunner heads breaking in half. I called 3 times, e-mailed 3 times and never heard back from them. Denny Jr. has returned my e-mails all in the same day with regards to installing electonics and how to maintain the spectacular finish.

Very Friendly, if I had more money I would buy his best guitar. I have heard several testimonials that has demonstated their customer support to be above and beyond other guitar manufacturers.
