The finish is transparent. The body stlye is a cutaway. The tuners are Grover to keep the dirt and grime out.The neck is thinline, but allows all fingersizes to fit well. The accessories were built in tuner and special brigde to lower the action to make guitar easy to play.It has 22 frets. It has It has a clear wave 10 pick-up system. on board eq. It has a maple neck. The guitar was made in 2007, in the USA.

Sound : 10
It suits my style fine. I try and play all types, but really into blues. Sound is rich and bright. It sound like electric when plugged in. Love the sound and the way quitar resonates.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The was set up in the factory so well that it came all perfectly tuned. Action is quite good, since brigde is modified to lower action. I bought a damaged guitar for a great price that was to have a 8 inch crack in it. Took guitar to work and asked 5 people to find crack on front of guitar, none could. Beautiful guitar, would compare to a Martin.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar will surley with stand live playing. Everything about the quitar is excellent and appears that it will last for years. I have put my another 5 guitars in the closet, so yes I would gig with without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have not needed repaired. Still new. Yes, it is under warranty and has a lifetime one. Very friendly and service was very quick.

Overall Rating : 10

I have been playing for 1 year seriously and on and on for about 5.I own a martain classical, ephiphone folk, washburn 335 and a ibanaz.

The list of features can be seen at the Zager web site. This guitar posesses every single feature I determined I needed. The most important feature of all for me is that the instrument HAD to be easy on my fingers.

This one is.

Of special interest to me is the built in tuner. It's easy to use and it works very well.

Sound : 10
The sweet dulcet tones of this precision instrument are so warm and vibrant, I can't reach the right words to describe how terrific this guitar sounds.

Every time I play it I think, 'wow' this is fantastic.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I opend the box immediately after the UPS guy carried it to my porch, took out the guitar and discovered that only two strings were slightly out of tune. I used the built in tuner to adjust them and that was that.

Mr. Zager crafts these instruments by hand, and it shows. The finish is beautiful. The action on his instruments is specially engineered to be easy to play and he succeeded. I can practive for long periods and my fingers don't hurt.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is definitely a performance instrument made from the highest quality materials. It's solid and well made. If you have this instrument in your hands you can see that a real craftsman paid special attention to every detail and component.

Customer Support : 10
They offer a lifetime warranty. When I call and email them, A. A human being answers the phone. (incredible all by itself IMHO) and when I email them I actually get a response from them. (3 times so far.)

So they actually have customer service that is really there and very helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
In my opinion the most important question on that list is what I would do if it were stolen or lost.

I would buy another one just like it. It's an incredibly beautiful, hand crafted, rich sounding, high quality guitar and it's as easy to play as Mr. Zager says it is.

Features : 10
grover tuners, thin neck, Clear Wave 10 electronics w/bass, mid, treble, and presence adjustment. Also built-in tuner.

Sound : 10
Sounds good to me. The guitar plays with a strong deep sound, and clear, bright higher tones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I am a guitar student with less than a year experience. So here is a more informed opinion. My instructor(30 years experience) was impressed by the workmanship and quality of the guitar. He also liked the feel. He commented on the quality of the tuners, and the smooth feel of the frets.

Reliability/Durability : 10
As a new guitar player I don't feel qualified to answer this section. However, as a carpenter by trade I recognize the durability and high quality of the finish.

Customer Support : 10
I've e-mailed the company a couple of times and always got a reply by the next day.

Overall Rating : 10
I am a relative beginner, having started guitar lessons several months ago.I tried out several different brands of guitars before taking a chance on the Zager. I've had it for a few weeks now and I can honestly say that it is easier to play than the others I tried. It looks great and plays beautifully.Sorry if this sounds "superficial" or "glowing", but I can't think of anything negative to say.I should add that I got it at a discount from Mr.Zager's "scratch and dent" inventory due to a small crack in the finish.

The Zager ZAD 50CE I own has a high gloss natural finish with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. It has a venetian cutaway, built in transducer, equalizer and electronic tuner which makes precise tuning much easier. This guitar has a neck designed specificaly for Zager which is slightly wider and thinner greatly enhancing playability. It has Grover tuners. Zager guitars are simply the easiest on the market to play because of their pantented "String Science" preformed by Dennis Zager, which lowers the strings exceptionaly close to the fretboard making it near effortless to play.

Sound : 10
The sound of this instrument is astounding. It has great volume and sustain with a warm rich sound you would only expect on a much higher priced guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As stated above the action on this guitar is unmatched. The modification's made lower and slightly widen the strings make an incredible diference. A must for a beginner, a joy for an acomplished player.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Fit and finish both outside and in speak of quality.

Customer Support : 10
Hard to believe, this is a class outfit. Wish every bussiness operated this way.

I have been playing guitar on and off for fourty years. I am not an accomplished player by any means more a campfire player. I have owned a Gibson ES 335 and a Martin. At this point in life a high end guitar just didn't make sense. I wish I had found this company years ago I could have saved myself money. Below is a note I wrote The Zagers sometime after making my purchase:

OK, it's been a couple of days since I received my ZAD 50CE. What can I say other than WOW! All the testimonials are true, this is a beautiful guitar in every way. The sound is outstanding and everything claimed is true. If only I had a guitar like this 40 years ago when I was first taking the instrument up. Perhaps I would have kept at it into adulthood. After just 30 minutes of fooling around I was actually able to remember and play a couple of old songs fairly decent. Dennis, in the law enforcement profession I'm in one tends to become very skeptical. Stumbling upon your Internet site and actually purchasing something--anything, for me is a first and all I can say is I should have purchased a lotto ticket that day! I'll be signing up for your online lessons soon, unless--you haven't come up with a way to "sell" your hands have you? Well, maybe in the year 2525 (Smile!).

God Bless,

The quality on this guitar is beautiful , the looks and the sound quality. At any price this is a wonderful instrument.

Sound : 10
Beautifl rich sound and even when finger picking the tone are so clear and rich, unbeliveable with the pick. Great for chord playing and finger picking

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
There were no flaws at all when I received it. The setup was super with Denny Zagers string science applied. Not effort at all to hit notes and chords. I can play for hours at a time with no sore fingers.
The construction is perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I would take this guitar over any I have owned in the past which includes Michael Kelly, Fenders, Gibson and Ibanez. It is a solid guitr and holds it tunning super.

Customer Support : 10
Have had no reason for a repair. But I can tell this is a freindly famly business that cares about it customers.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing off and on for 10 years. I also own a Michael Kelly Electric.I looked at many guitars including ones that cost $1500 or more and this plays as good or even better then those at a much lessor price. Low price does not mean poor quality or sound take my word on it. I would buy nothing other then a Zager and that would be if stolen or lost because I know this instrument will last my life time and my childrens. There is not one thing I hate about the Zager. I love the quality and richness of the sound and the playabiliyt.
You can not go wrong with a Zager

Sound : 10
i love the sound of the deep rich sound even when not plugged into an amp,as i do not own an amp yet at the time but when i took it to a friends house the other night to plug up and play around for awhile it was kinda like taking candy from a baby when i wanted my guitar back. one of my friends owns another brand which i won't mention as to not offend anyone who paid much more than i did wanted to trade. lol i don't think so

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the only flaw i found on mine was a small what seems to a glue drip which is on the back of the guitar near the neck which more than likely could be removed without damaging the finish. the action was superb since the nut, saddle, bridge were all custom made there were no flaws

Reliability/Durability : 10
i've only had this guitar a short time but i believe it will be in my family long after i'm gone and i'm not that old the finish looks great as i said with routine maint. i don't see any problems
there is only one button strap on the bottom where the amp plugs in and it is solid. i would take my guitar to any gig,jam session or to the campfire i'm definately not a profesional but i am proud to own this guitar..

have had no reason to use customer support i have conversed with dennis zager jr. personally through a couple of emails and they offer a 100% money back guarantee

ok this is getting longer than i expected i really like the guitar's wide body for the richer deeper sound i stick mostly with country, folk,or a little blues music.

Satin finish, dreadnought acoustic/electric. Tuners are sealed Groover. Solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides. Amazing finish.

Sound : 10
This guitar has a rich/full sound and very snappy. I was amazed at the price of this guitar could produce such a loud, crisp sound. Like that of many higher end guitars. When played properly there is not any string buzz. I like the fact that this is a full size dreadnought and it is amazingly light. The only thing I found wrong with this guitar is that it could use a strap hook somewhere around the top part of the body. Otherwise, you will not be wasting your time or money purchasing this amazing instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is unbelievable! The guitar was set up perfect from the Zager's factory. Action is also so low, I suprised that there is not alot of buzzing. VERY easy to play. I looked very hard and could not find even a micro scratch.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Honestly, I cannot rank its reliability. I olny had it for about a couple of days. I feel right now that I can depend on it. And hey, it comes with a 100% money back gurantee. Unlike all of the other manufacturer's out there.

Customer Support : 10
Before I bought this guitar I pestered the Zagers and they ALWAYS respsonded to my questions in an amazingly short time. They were always very nice and did not try to "force" me to buy their guitar. I have also read sooooo many positive reviews on their customer service and their 100% feedback on E-bay is a testament to their customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
I have only been playing for about 1 1/2 years. I own a high end Ovation which I have struggled with the action for all of that time. With the quality of this guitar it seems to me that I will NOW progress much, much quicker. I researched the Zagers for at least one full year before purchasing one of their guitars. I wanted to make sure I wasn't wating my money. Unless I can afford a $2-3000 Martin or Taylor I will be shopping with the Zagers for years to come.

Dreadnaught size, single cutaway acoustic/electric; Grover tuners, built 2006, modified at Zager (USA) to E-Z Play specs: (widen strings at nut, lower bridge, etc.). Spruce top, mahogany back & sides, rosewood bridge & fretboard. Onboard electronic tuner--LED meter and red/green light indicator; 3-band equalizer and "presence" slide control; volume knob for under-bridge pickup. Fast neck equiv. in shape and feel to necks on other elec. guitars I have, e.g., Ric 330, Guild Starfire. Hard case was extra, but with it came a temp/humidity gauge, extra Martin strings, picks, and a cool T-shirt.

Sound : 9
This model has a crystal clear, bell-like tone with plenty of depth and bottom end, when played thru the PA at my church (Mackie mixer, big EL 18" speakers) and also my Fender Twin Reverb w/ ZOOM Acoustic pedal. Lots of compliments from the crowd (and music director) on the sound/tone. Unplugged the sound/tone is a bit thin, absence of boomy lows. If you play mostly straight acoustic, this probably isn't the guitar for you, but for my purposes it's perfect b/c I'm always plugged in to an amp or PA.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar was personally modified to Zager E-Z Play specs and set up by Denny Zager as are all his guitars. It arrived here shipped from Zager in almost perfect tune (the "G" string was out just a little, the others dead on), and stays in remarkably good tune despite a lot of use and string bending. The instrument looks beautiful, abalone accents around soundhole. Electronics and tuner are sensitive and precise. Absolutely no fret buzz, even above the 12th. Remarkably easy to play, no fatigue after several hours, which is fine, b/c it sounds so good esp. plugged in, you want to keep playing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've been playing it live and have a lot of confidence in it. Solid craftsmanship on this fine instrument. It's built to last. I've been using it with no backup.

Customer Support : 10
Haven't had any problems (and don't expect to), but Zager's customer support is exceptional. They have a very user friendly website, and emails are typically answered the same day. Extremely friendly, informative people at Zager (Denny & Denny Jr.). Lifetime warranty. Was somewhat leery of buying a guitar over the computer, but my confidence after reading all the positive reviews and seeing the money back guarantee and lifetime warranty was fully justified after opening the box and playing the guitar after it arrived.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing regularly about 4 years after not having played since high school garage band days (35 + yrs. ago). Own a vintage Guild Starfire (from H.S. days) and a Ric 330. Play through a Fender Twin Reverb, or Ampeg Jet. Aside from contemporary religious music at church, I play mostly 60's rock & roll, motown, etc. I'm real pleased with the Zager. I've borrowed friends' $2500 Martins and Taylors and people tell me afterwards the Zager sounds as good or better. I'd buy another one (if my wife would let me) even if this one weren't lost or stolen. A fantastic value for the price.

Features : 9
Gloss finish
Dreadnought, w/veneitian cut away
grover tuners
rosewood fret board
rosewood bridge
solid top
2007 model
active fisher p/up and on board tuner
solid spruce top/w/mahogany back and sides
The only feature that I didn't like was that the guitar didn't have a front guitar peg. Otherwise the rating would be a ten.

Sound : 9
I play in an active country/rock band and this guitar is well suited for the rhythm part that I play. I play the guitar through the board with no effects. I like the straight acoustic sound. The guitar has a bright high end sound that I reduce by adding more bass on the eq.

I bought this guitar as a back up to my Martin Jumbo Acoustic/electric. Since purchasing this guitar it has replaced my Martin. The sound is comparable with my Martin, not better but other features of the guitar have put it around my neck when we play.

I bought the Black version of this guitar and it is beautiful but it shows every pick mark or finger print.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is the best I have ever held. I had several of my guitar playing friends evaluate the guitar and they all agreed with me that it is the easiest playing guitar they had ever played.
I have made no changes to the factory set-up.
No flaws have appeared at this point and I have been playing it every night for at least 2 hours since I got my guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I haven't used the guitar live so I cant say if it will withstand live play but I have practiced with it with the full band since getting the guitar. I think it will withstand a live show but I don't know for sure.
The rear strap button is very solid but the guitar didn't come with a front strap button.
I cant say that I would play this guitar at a gig w/out a back-up because I bought this guitar as a back up to my Martin.
I rate this a 9 only because the guitar came without a front guitar strap peg.

Customer Support : 9
The guitar comes with a complete money back guarantee within the first sixty days and a life time warranty.
I have e-mailed the company and received prompt responses to my e-mails.
The company website contains numerous videos clips with information about their guitars, care, and maintenance. I have found this useful for general purposes. I rate this a 9 instead of a ten only because I haven't needed customer service or support for any issue regarding my guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing an acoustic guitar for 26 years and have always played a Martin. I currently have a jumbo Martin acoustic electric that has the very best sound of any acoustic electric guitar I have ever heard but I put it away to play my Zager. The ease of play in the action of this guitar is unlike anything I have ever played. I thought that perhaps I was infatuated with my new purchase so I took my Zager to several local pickers and got their opinion. To a man they were impressed with the action on this guitar and I had several offers to purchase my guitar.
When playing my Martin, I have always suffered from hand fatigue at the end of a gig or long practice session. Saturday night (2/25/2007) my band practiced for 5 hours and I suffered no hand fatigue or soreness in my fingers. If this guitar were stolen I would purchase another one as quickly as possible. Excellent Product!

Features : 10
I bought the cutaway acoustic/electric with solid spruce top and mahogany body. It has the built-in tuner and electronics. I've always been a strictly acoustic player, but decided to get the acoustic/electric so I could plug and play if the occasion arose Although the website has a lot of excellent quality photos, I was a little leery about buying one without seeing it in person (and probably would not have except for their money back guarantee--including shipping). I needn't have worried. The appearance of the guitar far exceeded my expectations. I own a Takamine and and Alvarez Yairi 12-string, and the Zager looks better than either of them. Nothing looks cheap or flimsy and everything worked right out of the box.

Sound : 10
I've been playing 35 years, but I'm mostly a strummer. The main reason I bought the Zager (after someone told me they had heard about the EZ-Play guitar) was because I wanted to learn some other styles of playing and improve my all-around playing. But because of short fingers and the "pain" of playing my other acoustic guitars, it was never much fun to play for long stretches or try to master new techniques. The idea of a guitar that was 50% easier to play and had other design features specifically aimed at people with short fingers (slightly more space between strings, for example) really appealed to me. My biggest hesitation in buying the guitar sight unseen (except for photos)was wondering what it would sound like. I have played a lot of guitars, even expensive ones, that didn't sound good to me. I like a really clear, ringing tone. As I mentioned above re: the appearance, the thing that got me over this fear was the 100% guarantee. The sound was perfect for me. This is something which is a matter of taste, but after a week of playing the Zager, I got out my Takamine 6-string (the sound of which I have always liked--and I've owned it for 25 years) and played it a little, and there was no comparison. The Zager was far superior. I had a friend (who is an advanced player) over to look at it. His first comment on the sound was that if you played it right next to the high-end Martin that a mutual friend of ours owns, he bet you couldn't tell the difference. My Alvarez Yairi 12-string (which I've owned 34 years) probably is comparable in sound quality, although I don't get the benefit of the on-board electronics and tuner (which would be really great with a 12-string) with it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I've not found any flaws with the finish of the guitar. It wasn't in tune when I got it out of the case from shipment (I bought a case with it). Out of habit, I tuned it by ear, and played it that way for a couple of days. It held that tuning without adjustment. Then I finally got around to using the electronic tuner and found I had tuned it quite a bit sharp. I retuned it with the tuner, and again it held the tuning. But this is when I experienced the full benefit of the EZ-Play set-up, after I got the extra tension from my sharp tuning out of the strings. It really is remarkably easier to play that my Takamine. Again, this was the only reason I was even shopping for a new guitar. I liked the way my old guitar sounded. It just hurt me too much to play it for long stretches. I've played much more often, and tried more new things, since I got the Zager. And this was the point in buying it for me.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Full disclosure--I've only owned this guitar for a couple of weeks. I really have no idea how it will hold up over time. Based on appearance and feel, the quality is every bit as good as my Alvarez, and superior to the Takamine. As mentioned above, I've owned those guitars 34 and 25 years, respectively, so I would expect this one to hold up. I'm not a performer, so the questions re: live playing and playing a gig without a backup are not really pertinent to me. But I have no reservations about the quality of this guitar.

Customer Support : 10
Obviously, with my short period of ownership, I've not had to contact them for repairs. The warranty is lifetime. Obviously Zager is not a huge company like Martin or Gibson, so the length of the warranty will be limited to how long Zager stays in business. But they've been around since 1969, so hopefully Denny Zager is training some other luthiers to continue the trade after he is gone. For the communications I HAVE had with them so far, it's amazing how quickly you get a personal response back from an email or how easy it is to contact them by phone. Of course, they aren't a huge volume dealer, based on the numbers of guitars they show available at any one time on their site. This may be the secret to the level of personal service they offer.

Overall Rating : 10
I think I've answered most of the questions under this category above. The only thought that's crossed my mind since I bought it was whether I should have paid a couple hundred extra dollars and bought the ZAD-80CE model (with rosewood back and sides, and a pearl inlay all the way around the body of the guitar instead of just the sound hole.) It's not that I don't like the looks of my guitar--I love it! I'm just wondering how great that next model up must look if mine looks this good. So, if mine were stolen, I would definitely buy another Zager--it just might be the 80. As far as comparing this guitar to other models, here's my experience. I had tried other guitars for years, both in stores and guitars of friends. The problem was that other than solid body electrics, none of them had the easy-playing action I was looking for, and I wanted a hollow-body acoustic. I couldn't really compare the Zager to my current guitars, because there wasn't one available to try out. So I took a chance and ordered one online (after about 2 months of pondering). I'm thrilled I did it.

Full size cutaway body, gloss finish, solid spruce top, built in transducer, onboard equalizer, onboard electronic tuner, scalloped x bracing, hand carved custom nut, hand carved custom saddle, hand filed frets, sealed grover tuner gears, abalone inlay rosette, tortoise shell pick guard, rosewood fretboard, 21 frets

Sound : 10
Great sound both as accoustic and with pickup. Rich and full sound. Equalizer has the ability to increase bass, mid and treble and presence which can change the sound quality for more full sound or to make it more honky tonk like.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is an EZ-play set up Zager guitar. The action is extremely light. It is well balanced and a dream to play.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have had this guitar since October 2006 and use it live every week. It is dependable and I do not feel I need to bring a back up guitar. I have broken strings while playing live and have been able to continue the song without anyone noticing the broken string as the sound quality is so good.

Customer Support : 10
This guitar comes with a 100% money back guarantee and a lifetime warranty. I have dealt with customer support and have nothing but good things to say. They respond quickly (within 24 hours) and often are available online to do live chat. They are helpful, friendly and care about their customers. In addition one of my family members bought me a Christmas gift through them and they were extremely helpful to that family member to make sure that they were purchasing a compatible product.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing music 40 years. I play a number of instruments including keyboard and guitar and until I bought this guitar I had a problem with sore fingers which impacted my keyboard playing. This guitar has solved all of my problems because it requires such a light touch. Until I found this guitar I thought I would have to give up on guitar playing because I could not afford anything over $1,000. I love the onboard tuner and the sound of this guitar. If it were lost or stolen I would replace it with another Zager in a heartbeat.

This guitar has a high quality gloss finish. The electronic tuner make it so easy to tune. Its a cutaway body style with a ClearWave10 tuner/equilizer. Sweet

Sound : 10
I've had a Ovation for over 20 years and have always like to sound it projects because of its fiberglass body. The Zager projects even more in volume and clearity. I was quite surprised that I could get that kind of sound with a all wood guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Absolutly no flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Guitar feels solid.

Customer Support : 10
Had a problem with UPS damaging the first guitar. Zager had a new one sent within a week. A very caring and professional staff to work with.

Been playing for 25 years and now my 16 year old son has been playing. In fact he used a friends Zager and got 3rd place in the island wide high school talet show. Thats how I learned about the Zager Guitars and ordered one that same night. I have an Ovation, a 12 sting Encore as well as my sons 3 electrics

Solid Spruce Top, Gloss finish, Venetian Cutaway dreadnought, Mahogany back and Sides, Grover Tuning gears, Fishman Clearwave 10 active Electronics with Tuner and Eq., Abalone inlay rosette, custom nut, saddle and frets, Rosewood fretboard and bridge, Martin Strings, Lifetime warranty.

Sound : 9
This guitar has a crisp, rich, bright full sound that compares well with guitars priced more than double what I paid. It suits my fingerstyle playing perfectly. The sound "plugged" with my small acoustic amp is superb. I was looking at a Martin but you can't beat the sound of the ZAD-50ce for the money.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action and playability of this instrument is excellent. This may be the guitars biggest selling point-it is very easy to play. The strings are set in a wider stance and the frets are filed and worked. The nut and saddle are also customized. The end result is a low action with incredible intonation. The finish is beautiful - much nicer than my other guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It seems to be well built. Excellent hardware. It has one strap button - I may add another at some point. I don't gig but I would not hesitate with this one. Stays in tune and the finish is outstanding.

Customer Support : 10
Lifetime warranty. Dennis answered all of my questions via email within an hour. They have a 100% no questions asked policy. If you are not satisfied they want it back - at their expense.

Overall Rating : 9
I played 40 years ago and I have recently started to get back into it.
I have a Fender Strat. and an Alvariz AD70SC (a nice guitar also). The 50CE is really a great guitar. I compared it to Martins 3x the price and it plays easier than any that I tested. If you want value for your money, this accoustic electric dreadnought should be high on your list.

I've commented on the Zager list of features:
- Venetian cutaway box - I never owned a Venetian cutaway; the smooth cutaway area is both practical and beautiful.
- Solid spruce top - The benefits of spruce are well-known; this also has a great feel to it.
- Mahogany back & sides - Beautifully finished.
- Sealed "Grover" Tuning Gears - Simply work.
- Built in transducer - Amplification potential without detracting from the aesthetics or the acoustics.
- Onboard electronics & EQ - Gives the guitar a "Borg-like" feeling :-)
- Onboard electronic tuner - A particularly nice one. Can't lose it.
- Guitar strap audio jack. Good combination.
- Abalone inlay rosette - Pretty.
- Tortoise shell pick guard - Practical.
- Gloss finish - Not finicky; easy to keep clean.
- Hand carved custom nut - Obvious quality.
- Hand carved custom saddle - Obviously adjusted for intonation.
- Hand filed frets - Unlike any other guitar I've played.
- Scalloped X-bracing - It's there; I felt it...:-)
- Rosewood fret-board - Feels great
- Rosewood bridge - Looks great
- Genuine "Martin" Strings - Yup
- Zager EZ-Play Modified - This is where the magic is: Unbelievable action!
- Lifetime warranty - Hope I never have to find out.
- 100% money back guarantee - No way; this baby's MINE!

Sound : 10
I play folk/acoustic/eclectic; the sound is a good fit. Most acoustic guitars favor high, middle, or low sounds; this is equally bright, mellow, and resonant, across the spectrum. I haven't played it amplified yet, so these comments all pertain to acoustic performance.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As far as I can tell, this guitar is perfect. I see no mismatches, no scratches, no flaws, no router gouges, no cracks.

The action is a Zager trademark, and it is superior to anything I've ever seen on a guitar. Low, even; rounded frets; feather-touch fretting.

The electronic tuner worked perfectly.

The guitar arrived in tune!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Since I just got it, I can't speak to durability other than to see it looks like it will stand up to lots of hard playing.

Customer Support : 10
No repairs, but pre-sales questions were answered personally, quickly, in a completely friendly way. A company I look forward to doing business with.

The warranty is life-time, and there's a 100% money-back guarantee - including shipping.

Overall Rating : 10
I've returned to the guitar after a 35-year hiatus. My wife died last year, and I wanted a peaceful and satisfying discipline to help me stay focused on life-affirming things. I played an old inexpensive classical guitar for several months, but the height of the strings was killing my fingers. I sought something with a good sound and low action.

I decided I wanted an acoustic rather than another classical. I made the rounds of guitar stores and websites, and saw many fine instruments. Nothing gave me the comfort and joy of the Zager - and the risk-free purchase.

It's still new, but I believe this is my guitar for life. As far as I can tell, it is the guitar of my dreams.

Top quality fret board, I believe to be Rosewood. Spruce top with mahogany back, giving an excellent tone. Built in electronics are top notch with electronic tuner included.
Zagers are Martins that are modified to play easy without buz

Sound : 8
Big Sound, true Dread Naught style. Outstanding Folk and Folk Rock guitar. Coupled with a tube Alamo amp, this guitar puts out a big, clean sound. It isn't great for Rock leads, put is an awesome rythim and soft lead playing.
The easy action helps, but it isn't as comfy as my old Martin 000-28,(1963). But that guitar would cost $20,000, because of the Brazilian Rosewood.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
On not an expert, but for the money this baby can't be touched!!

I love the built in tuner and the electronics, as my Martin has to be miked.

No flaws -- excellent bookmatch woods, great hardware. Denny Zager does a very unique setup on his guitars, which is well suited particularly to new players, but great for experienced players as well.

I have had my zager guitar now since may 2006. It is a wonderful guitar and a pleasure to play. nice finish, built in tuner, nice pickup that gives it great live sound. the wood is beautiful. I also like that it has a e-q built in.

Sound : 10
The sound is wonderful. I have had so many people comment on the sound since I bought this guitar. They all notice how nice and bright the sound is. I have been recording with it, and I would say it has the nicest sound that I have had thus far since i have started recording cd's.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It came ready to play and I have never had such a easy to play guitar. the strings are low to the frets but without any buzzing. People I have shown it to and let them try it, love the feel and notice the ease of playing it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is very reliable and keeps in tune. I have played it since may of 2006 and it really does the job.

Customer Support : 10
never had to have a repair, but the company is always helpful and prompt in answering any questions I have along the way.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar since 1976 and I would have to say that I am most pleased with this guitar than any other one I have had. I have had yamaha, guild, washburn acoustics and this one I have now is top of them all. The price was still affordable, the quality great. The one thing I wish it had was a mute button for the pickup. Not a major thing. I would highly recommend it.

This is a full size dreadnaught, cut away acoustic electric guitar.
It has mahogany back and sides with as solid spruce top. The fretboard and bridge are rosewood. Grover tuning gears. The inlays are abalone. Electronics has a threeband equilzer and a LCD tuning setup.
This is a high gloss finish which allows the beauty of the natural wood come through.

Sound : 10
The sound is incredible for a guitar in this price range. It sounds great both plugged in and unplugged. It compares favorably with a number of higher end guitars I have tried.
I would classify this as a bright sound with excellent sustain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar arrived well packaged and in tune. It has a very low action, requiring very little finger pressure to produce clear chords.
The fretboard is wide with a shallow neck which allows one to easily get your hand around the neck. There were no flaws in the finish or the craftsmanship of the instrument.

Reliability/Durability : 10
A very solid instrument, should last for years of regular play. this guitar would be excellent for a solo gig because of tone and finish. It looks and sounds great.

Customer Support : 10
Have not had any repair issues, yet it has a lifetme warranty.
All correspondence with the company has been excellent. Very quick responses to all emails with complete answers to any questions.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing off and on since the early 1960's. I currently have this ZAD 50 CE, an Ovation and an old Epiphone. I am very pleased with this guitar and would replace it if something happened to it. I am very impressed with the action and easy playability of this instrument. The other guitars are gathering dust.
I would suggest getting the highend case with the humidity sensor in it. I did, it is strong protection for a favorite instument.

The sound is comparable to a Martin guitar that I paid more than three times for. The neck is perfect and the "Ez-Play" system that Mr. Zager uses makes this the easiest guitar I have ever played . . . I realize that sounds redundant since it is the Ez-play system - but believe me it is and the sound is rich . . no zinging strings. . .

I ordered a zager 50CE spruce solid top with a mahogany body with electronics and on board tuner.it has a beautifull transparent finish.the neck is not thick and fits my palms well.my fingers are able to reach the 6th string with ease.the strings are soft to the fingers and gentle pressure against the frets is enough to bring out beautifull good tones and volume.the distances between strings are wider than my epiphone dove guitar since i can easily do fingerstyle solo picking.

Sound : 10
i do chord strumming and learning with patience solo fingerstyle play. with lighter strings that are lower or closer to the frets,i can produce a good base volume and qualty high pitch sounds.the sounds are solid and there is no scatter or break when sustained.the sounds somehow just comes out with solid tones both in the high and low pitches.i have not used it long enough to know its shortcomings but i am not a very accomplished guitar player[yet]to know this.all i can say is that is is definitely better than my epiphone guitar that i exchanged for my saxophone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the quality of the guitar as a whole looke very solid.the wood is of good quality with excelent finish, saddle is perfectly fitted,no scratches or blemish nor any loose controls or nuts.my wife said that i have everything i need to play a good guitar music.no excuses.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion

Customer Support : 10
it is under a lifetime warranty and the people in the company that i communicate with are nice and very pleasent and accommodating too.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing on and off over the years during my medical school and during training.also while in practice.never reallly took it seriously.i learned playing in the streets of manila, philippines.i read a lot about the reviews about the guitar and the man who makes the guitar,mr denny zager.it is the best sounding guitar that i ever had. and compared to my epiphone,i would take this one without second thoughts.the strings are low and light.with slight pressure of the right fingers,it is very easy to make quality sounds.less pain to the fingers.surgeons like me do not have time to develope thickness of tips of finger since our hands are scrubbed vigorously prior to any surgical pocedures.
i wish it should have come with a strap.

This guitar couldn't be any better! I play acoustically around town and just in my own house. My style is alternative I guess...never really thought about it. I haven't actually used it through any amps just yet, but am going to in two weeks!!! I have recorded with it on Logic and Cubase...and it sounds absolutely wonderful. Nice low end with clear highs. The mids are perfect...and with the built in EQ and tuner...it always sounds the way I want it to. The harmonics on the guitar are piercing and sound full. I never want to buy any other kind of guitar as long as I live.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar has this thing called "EZ-play" science that Dennis puts into all his guitars.

The EZ-Play??? modification process involves:

-Lowering the strings closer to the fret board so you no longer have to press hard to form a chord.
-Widening the stance of the strings so there is more space for your fingers, while keeping the neck shallow so its easy for small hands.
Modifying the saddle, bridge, neck and nut in harmony to amplify the tone and resonance.
-The result is a guitar that is 50% easier to play with a sound that rivals guitars costing 5 times the price.

So your answer is that this guitar has some of the best action I have ever felt before. The guitar was even in tune when I received it!!! There were no flaws whatsoever on this beautiful baby.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I am serious about this guitar. I would play it without a backup for sure.....I've never broken a string on this thing except for once...and that was because I tuned the high E really high...really fast. It is a quality guitar and you can really see the work and pride in Dennis through his guitars he makes. The strap buttons are completely solid...I can depend on this thing for everything lol. The finish is absolutely AWESOME! Every time I polish it, it seems like I just bought it brand new. You will never be disappointed with a ZAGER guitar.

Customer Support : 10
Never had to get it repaired.

LIFETIME warranty...can't beat that.

I have dealt with the company to tell them how much I appreciate their guitar and to say thank you...

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for three years. I own some other electric guitars. If this guitar were stolen from me...I would find the bastard that did it and kill him. If I couldn't do that, I would buy the same one from the same company. I've have friends who own taylor and martin guitars, and when they play this guitar...they can't believe the quality and craftsmanship for the price I paid. It plays just as good if not better and sounds wonderful!!!

I love everything about this guitar...hands down. My favorite feature is the built in EQ and tuner. I chose this guitar because of the price and its overall beautiful appearance...I already knew that it would sound great.

Features : 9
Acoustic/electric "EZ Play" guitar-Natural gloss finish, mahogany body, solid spruce top. Onboard electronics and tuner, abalone inlays, inlaid rosette, inlay on the back of the body, rosewood bridge, rosewood fret board, Grover tuners. Bridge is rosewood. Saddle and nut are hand-carved as part of Denny Zager's "EZ Play" system. The one thing that is missing is a front strap button. Denny addresses this on his Web site, but I would have preferred the button be installed at the factory. Is this worth giving the guitar a 9? (Purely subjective assessment here).

Sound : 10
It's hard to describe the clean sound of this guitar in words. The best way to describe it honestly is to use my wife's words. "It's like playing for years with ear plugs and then taking those ear plugs out and hearing the full tone of the guitar." I couldn't say it better myself. The full-bodied tone and timbre of this instrument are apparent (and wonderful) the first time you strum the strings. I've played this through my Fender Princeton DSP65 and my DeVille (no acoustic amps) and the sound is truly luxurious. The onboard EQ allows for sounds from twang to velvet.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I play guitars and collect 'em as well. I've looked very closely for imperfections, shortcuts, cheap hardware, etc. Can't find anything to complain about. Frets are hand-filed and rounded by Denny. The saddle looks odd because it is shaved, filed and fit to the guitar. It's not the nice, even, smooth white piece of plastic we normally see. The finish is impeccable. When I consider a guitar, I have a little inspection sheet that I follow. From the top of the headstock to the bottom strap button, I look at everything-inside and out-using a flashlight, mirror, finish microscope, etc. The Zager Web site says Denny inspects every guitar by hand. I can believe it.

Reliability/Durability : 9

I haven't used this guitar long enough to tell you about reliability. I will say this; the guitar comes with a lifetime guarantee. I have called the company (toll-free, I might add), spoken to a couple of people, so I know they're accessible. I have no doubt that if there is a problem with the guitar, it will be repaired promptly, properly and with great care. I've owned instruments long enough to know that a guitar is only as good as those who make it and maintain it. I always carry a backup guitar with me. The instrument may be built like a rock, but there is no way to predict accidents, drunk customers or thieves.

Based on the lifetime guarantee, I have to give it high marks.

Customer Support : 10
Again, I can't speak to customer support because I haven't needed help. However, as I said above, when I've called or written with a question I'm sure they've heard thousands of times, I've dealt with people who are interested and responsive. I'm fully confident any problem will be handled quickly by Zager and company.

Heck, Zager offers a 60-day money back guarantee, and they pay the shipping if I want to return it. Denny's crazy-like a fox. He knows how tough it is to buy an instrument without ever touching or playing it. What better insurance policy is there?

I've played for more years than I want to admit. I quit for awhile and started again a few years back. I currently own more than two dozen guitars, a Yamaha keyboard, a dozen amps - including Fender, Marshall, Peavey, Crate, Vox, etc. Fenders, Gibsons, imports, customs, acoustics, twelve-strings, ukeleles, etc. - you name it, we've either owned it or it's in our collection. I can afford just about anything I want and my wife encourages me to collect for us (yeah, I DO know how lucky I am). So why did I decide on a Zager? I can play it without pain in my wrist, arm and fingers. I'm not getting any younger, but I still think I'm 20 and want to continue to play as though I am. My wife and I gig together and the Zager's sound, style and feel fit the bill for those jobs.

I have played just about everything from a Monteleone (a very humbling experience) to a J-200 (disappointing) to a D-18 (nearly orgasmic). They're all great guitars, but I can buy three Zagers (including the case) for the cost of one D18 and still have money in my pocket.

Much as I'd hate to have it happen, if I get a scratch or nick on my Zager, I won't feel nearly as suicidal as if I'd done it to my old Hummingbird.

I plan to give updated reviews on this guitar at six months and one year. We'll see if my impressions are

This is a basic acoustic 6 stringer. It came with an allen wrench and an extra set of strings, which I did not expect. It was completely in tune. It was signed by Mr. Zagar with the current date and an individual serial number. The neck is thin enough to accommodate my small hands and the strings are very close to the neck, to make for great ease in playing. It came in a cardboard triangular "case" which nested inside the packing case. The triangle case is reusable and perfect for storing and protecting the guitar from nicks scuffs and home atmosphere changes.

Sound : 10
I am still learning to play and this guitar is cooperating beautifully. The sound is everything I could have wanted and more.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything about the action, fit and finish is first rate. No flaws from everything I saw or heard.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar is well built and appears that it will last for a long time. The finish is gorgeous, flawless, and durable. The strap button is solid. The whole thing looks extremely dependable and I would use it on a gig without a backup anytime.

Customer Support : 10
The company was extrordinarily kind and accommodating.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm a longtime beginner because I could never find a reasonably priced guitar for my very small hands. I'd definitely get another one from Zagar if anything happened to this one. It sounds clean and bright and best of all, it really fits my hand so I can learn to play instead of always just strive to avoid fatigue and pain.

I bought a Zager 50CE direct from the Zagers. I have long been in the market for a new Acoustic/electric for leading worship. I was saving my money for a new Larrivee, but got impatient and figured with the guarantee, I could just send it back at their expense and keep on saving for who knows how long. The 50 has a spruce top and mahogany box. This guitar sounds great plugged in, and there is an onboard tuner - very convenient. I added a hard case with a free humidity guage for 95$. Grover tuners stay in tune all day long. You won't find a better guitar for the money - anywhere.

Sound : 10
I wish I could give it a twenty for sound. I was expecting the low action and knew from the photos it was a good looking guitar, but was totally unprepared for the sound. It truly does match the sounds of the real high end Taylors and Larrivee's. The pickup allows for much more diversity in sound, just with the onboard preamp. You'll be surprised at the sound for less than 500$

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is the claim to fame, and felt slightly better than a Taylor I've been playing. I just have to get used to playing lighter now. I did buy a discount guitar, as the wood has some variation, but I can barely tell.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
We'll see.

Customer Support : 10
Customer support is fabulous, and they've already emailed me 5 times in less than a week. They are very professional on the phone, they really care.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing a couple years, and have previously played a JB Player and a low end Taylor. If I lost this guitar, I'd buy another one as soon as I could. I can't think of anything I'd change.

I have played USA Ovations since 1977. I love the slim neck and extremely low action. I have tried Martin & Taylor and could afford anything I want, but I've always stuck with Ovation, because of the neck action. I have bought many guitars over the years for students, and have found quite a few good deals on old Ovations, primarily because they aren't one of the "big 3" names in guitars. Tradition doesn't bother me; ease of playability is the key to someone sticking with and improving on guitar. It's a waste of money to get something you have to "fight" with to learn to play. A recent student played my guitar and loved the action, but the strings were a little too close together for his fingers. He wanted me to find him something that played with that same low action, but had a slightly wider string set-up. I went to guitar shops and played on everything that looked decent, and even some very expensive Martins and Taylors, just for my own curiosity, since it had been a while. I just wasn't satisfied with anything I played on, and certainly not in his price range. I did some research and found Zager Guitars on ebay. I spent some time at zagerguitars.com and the more I read, the more impressed I became. It looked like this was just what the young man was looking for: fit, finish, electronics, low action but wider string placement, and price range. I decided to take the risk for him and ordered the guitar myself. There didn't really seem to be any risk anyway, since the guitars come with 100% money back guarantee and lifetime guarantee. I ordered a ZAD 50CE and it came in 3 days. I took it out of the box and sat down to "see if this is real." It played like a dream and has a wonderful balanced tone: crisp, clear highs, smooth mids and warm, full lows. It definitely has the feel and sound of a much more expensive guitar. It's low and fast, and all around, the guitar is very sharp looking!! I've watched quite a few of the videos on the website and must say that I agree with Mr. Zager on virtually everything regarding how a guitar is set up and what makes a guitar more comfortable to play. I've adjusted bridges and nuts many times, hand filing them, and have converted every student's guitar over the years to a lighter gauge string. Mr. Zager, however, has got this process down to a real science and I'm very impressed. The frets were hand dressed and the intonation all the way up the neck was perfect. Wow!
I won't be looking for old Ovations for students anymore. I know where to steer them right from the start. Great product at an unbelievable price! BTW, the young man can't put the guitar down, and that's exactly what it takes to go from novice to proficient in a hurry! Keep up the good work!!
A new Zager fan!

Great warm, balanced tone. Exceptionally easy to play. Honestly, I can't put this guitar down, and I've owned a 45' Martin, Martin D15, Blueridge Gospel, Wechter, Gretsch, Gibson B100, Ovation, and more. Holds it's own with the Martins on the playability scale if not the woods, but hey at $495 who can complain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set-up was great out of box and in tune! Finish is gorgeous. I would not that the jack is a press fit type so if your guitar jack is tight it will pull out...

Reliability/Durability : 10
Just bought it, but it seems solid for my use.

Customer Support : 10
Well this is where it really getsd good! They sent me the wrong guitar. Talked to Dennis via email and the next day he had the right guitar shipped out with a free hardshell case, stand, and humidity guage for my trouble!!!! Oh, yeah and a return label for the other guitar. Tell me, what company does that kind of service anymore? I can't thinbk of one! I'd give them an 11 if they had it!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 25 years. It really does live up to it's name of easy play. I have yet to experience hand fatigue. I noted one bad review about the filed frets, but the whole point of these guitars is to be modified for ez-play and they do that extrememly well! I'd buy another eventually if my wife would kill me! ;)

This has the EZ-play modified strings. It feels the same as my electric, easy to play. This electric acoustic has a tuner on it already so it's easy and fast to get your guitar in tune. The fret board is made out of rosewood which I have read is one of the best woods to use.

Sound : 9
The sound is very clear and deep. There is nothing more fun than playing Tool songs on an acoustic

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar is set up by no factory. Zager does the strings and tunes the guitar himself. The first thing I noticed when I took my guitar out of it's box is the string work. WOW, it's aligned perfectly.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar holds its tuning well. I haven't had the guitar too long but if it was to break, no worries. Zager offers a lifetime warranty.

Every time I shoot them an e-mail they reply within an hour. I've sent about 4 e-mails and all of them answered quickly.

If this guitar was stolen or broken, I would order a new one right away. The price is excellent for all support and accessories you recieve. The only thing I miss is the nub for a strap, not that big of a deal though.

When I took the guitar out of the box it was almost perfectly tuned.
The top is perfectly matched and the finish is mirror like. The color is natural. The only flaw is one fret is kind of rough. If it wasn't for the small flaw I would rate it a 10.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The finish seems durable and tuners are of good quality. I don't know about the reliability since I purchased the guitar March 2006.

The guitar has a lifetime warranty. I emailed Zager about what I thought was a buzzing problem. They emailed me within 45 minutes which was late night!! We worked the problem out which was my fault(bad hand postion). They are very helpful.

Thanks to Zager my fingers hurt only a little when I practice for hours and only because I bear down to hard when I try some thing new. My friend played my ZAD and was impressed with the overall quailty and tone. He is an accomplished player.(plays a high priced Taylor.

I bought this guitar a week back and it just plays awesome! Infact I don't have any good words to explain how cool this guitar plays.

I play both flat pick and finger picking, mostly country and classic rock, and I always had difficulty with finger picking in my old guitar. This one is so ergonomically designed that the fingers align perfectly with the strings and each note comes lound and clear!

This is electric/acustic guitar, however I am not using any amp right now. I love acustic, but bought this combo kind of guitar because I couldn't find a better deal for a combo guitar anywhere (neither on the internet nor in any local stores here in San Jose, CA)... I mean, you tell me where can you get a guitar that's plays like a $2000 guitar but is for sale for only around 500 bucks!, moreover, it's hand crafted and fine tuned by Danny himself!... I'll be amazed if I find a deal better than this...

The guitar is not noisy at all. In fact, one of the videos on Danny's site shows that some guitars might rattle in some dry areas and the guitar comes with an adjustment key (and Danny's video explains how to use that key) that you can use to adjust the guitar to reduce rattle... however, I didn't face any such issue...

What kind of sounds the guitar can make... well... check out Danny play himself on his site: http://www.zagerguitar.com/index.cfm?event=video&vid=zad50ce-solid-top-acoustic-electric-natural

I strongly suggest buying this guitar, for the fact I believe you won't get a better deal... I did almost a month full of research before I bought this guitar, and believe me I researched each site and checked out couple of guitars at the guitar center and other local guitar shops here in San Jose, CA... I am so satisfied with this guitar that I just can't explain it in words...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar is custom crafted for much easy play! It even comes with extra set of Martin & Co. high quality strings! I know, that's not a big deal, but go and try buying a guitar from any store and see if they give you Martin strings for FREE :-)...

I also recieved (with the package) two very light picks... they are extremely thin... I already had quite thin picks, but these are even thinner, and they help ensuring that you don't mess up the strings...

The guitar was flawless, top finishing touches and in perfect condition! This is one part that I was quite worried especially because I feared that ground shipping might create some troubles... wears etc... but no, nothing... the guitar was in perfect condition!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I showed the guitar to some of my friends who play in local bars here in San Francisco, and they really liked it... I showed the guitar speks (like the wood quality and all the other stuff that's mentioned on the website) as I didn't have much clew, and they were quite impressed with the guitar quality and the price... they infact said that I might be one of the lucky customers :-)... as that kind of deal is not possible... :-))...

They said that this guitar is built to last, and especially for this kind of price range even if it would last 1/2 the life of a 5000 dollar guitar, I say, what the heck...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't tried support yet.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for an year now, and this is my second guitar. It's just awesome, and as I have put my comments above, you've got to see this guitar to believe it...

I did compare this guitar against others and the only guitar that sounded better than this one was the Martin costing 8000 dollars! and even that... I didn't play it... I took one of my guitarist friends who checked it out... that guitar sounded amazing, but then I couldn't figure out much of a difference between this one and the 8000 dollar guitar, perhaps I am too novice to figure that out... but at least, I didn't find any glaring differences... however I did find a lot of glaring differences between this ZAD-50CE and my old guitar that I bought from a local store for around 300 bucks...

I wish it came with both the bottom and front pegs installed for the guitar strap... I don't use strap though, but after seeing the video on Danny's site as to how ppl can spoil the guitar while installing a strap peg, I just feel that it's way risky to give such kind of a custom made precision instrument to any guitar store to install a peg...

This is a beautiful guitar. The setup by Zager looks to be impeccable. I've had it a relatively short time so I can't tell if anything will come loose but so far it's all good. The action is really incredible. My previous guitar was re-fitted to lower the action and I thought it was pretty good but this one just blows that away. No buzzing, easy to play, chords formed with a mere touch. Really amazing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Again, it's relatively new but it's been heavily used in that short time. The guitar looks solid and I have no issues.

Customer Support : 10
Lifetime warranty with 100% return rights including shipping both ways. As an internet-based company, they have to do this and I have never heard that Zager has backed away from this warranty. They shipped the guitar one day after the order was placed and it arrived promptly. Dennis, Jr. or Denny Zager himself responds quickly to e-mails. This is a solid company with their eye on quality customer-support.

Overall Rating : 10
I told Dennis Zager that I can't imagine going back to my old Yamaha even though I loved that guitar. I love the richness of this relatively inexpensive guitar and I also love the look on people's faces when they pick it up, play it a little and then express surprise at the price. I would recommend this guitar to anyone who is in the market for a sub-$1000 guitar

I've been playing guitar for 40 years both in a band and for pleasure. I've played Gibson, Taylor, Alvaraz,Fender and the
one that comes the closest to the sound of the ZAD-50CE is the Alvaraz but it's not a close 2nd. The sound is so crisp and clear no matter what cord you play.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I fine tuned the strings when I first received the guitar using the awesome built-in auto tuner and the played it for seven hours. I had no fatigue in my fingers or hand. The action is so nice you barely have to touch the strings. I could find nothing wrong with the set-up of this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've only had the Zager for a short time but it looks like a very well built guitar. The workmanship that's gone in to making this guitar is second to none. I would not be afraid to use this on stage or anywhere else.

Customer Support : 9
I can't honestly say myself how the customer support is because I haven't had any problems. This guitar was bought by my wife for my birthday and from what she told me the maker of this guitar was nothing but supportive and very helpful in answering her questions prior to the purchase. As for the warranty, it's lifetime. I think that's pretty good.

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy another ZAD-50CE if mine was lost or stolen.
What I love most about this guitar is the easy play action, sound,

The finish is very glossy, which looks nice, but would not be my first choice. The built in tuner is a nice addition. The case as well does a very nice job of cradeling the guitar. They threw in an eztra set of Martin string which was a nice touch. The pickup is an active model, which uses a 9 volt.

Sound : 10
Normally I don't do testamonials on the things I buy, but I had to let everyone know about this guitar, so here it goes.

I play everything from country, to 80's rock, to playing in my church. I have a fender stage 100, a Peavey transformer 112 and I plug into the PA when available. This guitar has a full bright sound typical of a spruce top. It has a great smooth sound that depending on how hard you play can get very full and bright. It sounds absolutely great throught my Fender amp, along with the sound board at church. I do use a zoom acoustic pedal, more often than not.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is unmatched, for the price. The action would be comparable to that of a $2000 Taylor, which is what I was going to buy. Plugged in this guitar sounds amazing. I have looked this guitar over very well and can't find any flaws in it at all. Dennis Zager looks these over before he sends them out, and must do a good job, because I can't find so much as a slight blem. The string science that Dennis uses works great, I was definelty a little worried because I have rather large fingers, and have no problem at all. Barre chords on this guitar are a breeze.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I can't tell you how this guitar will hold up, I have not had it that long. I am just going on what I have had in the past and it is very well made. The finish is great, and all the hardware is top notch. I would not go on a gig without a backup, so I can't give that question an honest answer. I give it a 9, based on lack of knowledge on this category.

Customer Support : 10
The customer service I recieved from this company is top notch. It is refreshing to see that there are still people who do business the old fasion way, by putting customer service first.
I needed the guitar by a certain date and they did what it took to get it to me on time. They always answered my e-mails within about 4 hours, and answered all of my questions.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 10 years now and have owned a lot of guitars. I have currently a martin d-50 which I am now selling, because I like this guitar better. A G&L electric and Ibanez acoustic electric and a few other priceless keepsakes. I wish that this guitar had a front strap peg on it, but I will have someone else install that. This guitar compares with thousand dollar guitars. With a money back guarentee, how can you go wrong, that was a selling point for me, and boy am I glad I did.

Perhaps the most beautiful guitar I have seen. It came in perfect shape and the action is by far the best I have played... and I have played MANY guitars in my forty years of playing guitar. It plays easier than both my Martin 28 and my Seagull

I have been playing guitar for forty-plus years and own a Martin D-28 and a Seagull M-C Spuce. I find the Zager is much easier to play than both of the these. Its tone is equal to the rich sound of the Martin. If it were to be lost or stolen I would would replace it with the exact same model. I love this guitar because of its tone, playability, and beauty. I have nothing negative to say about the Zager 50-CE.
Its well worth the cost and I recommend it highly!

I purchased the ZAD50-CE with the natural finish. It's a glossy finish on a cutaway body. Check out the Zager website for the features. What's stated on the website is correct. There is no smoke-blowing on this website. The ease of playing of this guitar is it's #1 feature. The neck is as thin as any I've ever played, which is important to me with having small hands. I rated this as a "9" only because it does not have "Tons of features" (as your #10 rating would suggest); it's an acoustic. It doesn't need "Tons of features!" It does all that I need it to do.

Sound : 10
I play in an acoustic duo. The ZAD50-CE does exactly what I need. I had a minor issue with the pickup that was completely resolved by the Zager folks. It required shipping the guitar back to them. Their guarantee speaks for itself. 100% satisfaction. I play this instrument directly through a Peavey 600XE mixer. I dont use any effects. I'm very satisfied with the sound of this instrument, both amplified and unplugged.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This is the easiest to play guitar I have ever owned. I had a minor issue with the setting of the pickup, probably more to do with the saddle. Dennis Jr. provided me instructions on adjusting the saddle, but when that didn't solve the issue, I shipped it back for adjustment. Had it back in just over one week with the issue completely resolved. That was the only "flaw" with the guitar. I have the natural finish. It is as nice as I've seen. The action is as good or better than any instrument I've owned. I rated this "8" only because of needing to send it back for adjustment.

Reliability/Durability : 7
So far, I've only used it for two gigs. I can't speak to all the questions in this category. I've used it both times without a backup. I can tell you that after two, three-hour gigs, I had NO finger fatigue, and NO hand cramping. My fingers felt as though I hadn't played at all. I rated this a "7" only because I've only used it twice and can't honestly answer the Durability questions.

Customer Support : 10
100% Lifetime warranty, including free shipping back to them for any repairs. This warranty is ROCK SOLID! I shipped my ZAD50-CE back to have the pickup / saddle adjusted. Dennis answered my initial email within minutes and provided some instructions that could possibly resolve the issue without returning it. When that wasn't successful, my subsequent email was answered (sent and replied to on a Sunday morning) promptly and I was provided a prepaid shipping label for UPS. I sent the guitar back for adjustment and received it back from Zager in 9 days, completely adjusted to my satisfaction. These are the most helpful folks in the business!

Overall Rating : 10
I got my first guitar in 1966, so I've been playing for approx. 40 years. Currently, besides the Zager, I have a 1978 Fender Telecaster and a Dean Acoustic. I asked alot of questions before I purchased this instrument and I was making a purchase sight unseen. I do believe the Zager folks answered all my questions, in fact, I was a bit of a pest! I'd buy from Zager again if the guitar was lost of stolen...in a heartbeat. I had been considering purchasing a Garrison before I chose the Zager. I chose this one based on the Guarantee and the testimonials on the website. Call me gullible if you want, but I am completely satisfied with my Zager. What do I hate - Nothing. Favorite Feature - the ease of playing and the incredibly low action with no fret buzz. I would not hesitate to buy another Zager instrument or to recommend Zager to anyone who will listen.

I have a satin finish cutaway model. It is a lefty. It is an acoustic/electric with sealed Grover tuners. Solid spruce top with rosewood frets. Back and sides are maple. Tuner and amp controls are very nice.

Sound : 10
I really was impressed with the sound. i usually play pop and country, and it fits the style very well. I sometimes use a Fender amp, but mostly play acoustic. When I do plug in, I find the guitar sounds really good through the amp also. I have no dislikes on the sound at all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
There were no flaws on my guitar at all. The fit and finishe were just as promised. I'm very happy with it overall.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think the guitar would withstand anything you wanted to do. If I were a proffessional, I think I would certainly have a back up guitar in any case. That would only be smart right? But I do believe my back up would be another Zager. I have played Ovations and Yamaha for years, and the sound and finish do not compare to a Zager.

Customer Support : 10
The Zager's warranty is probably the best in the business. Costomer service was great. I had several email sessions with Zager before I purchased the guitar, and they were always friendly and helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for almost 40 years. I'm left handed, so I have always had to be a bit picky in choosing a guitar. I have played and own Ovations and Yamahas before. If I lost my Zager, I would definitely get another one to replace it. I love the sound and the ez play feature really does make a difference on string bite. The built in tuner is really nice also. I like it more than others I have used on the Ovation models I own. I don't dislike anything about this guitar. I wish it had some mother of pearl inlays on the frets, but that is all i would ask for.

the body and neck are maple. the top is finished in a satin finishe. I think the top is spruce and appears to be finiashed a little lighter in color than I might request. The ov3erall appearance is incredible. Thie pick guard is tortise shell colors vs. black.

The guitar has a full rich acoustic sound. I play mostly folk and blurgrass rhythm styles. I don't regularly use a amplifier .

I like the feel of the action, much more easily played than my previous acoustic, a Martin D35.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came out of the box in excellent playable condition. It was nearly perfctly in tune and ready to be played. I played fro over an hour, after re-tuning.

I cannot see any visibly defects or poor workmanship.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It is fitted with grover tuning hardware and appears t be very well built. I travel a lot for business and anticipate bringing this one with me often.

Customer Support : 10
The warranty is lifetime. I've corresponed many time with the company without any problems. it is unrealistic to belieive that willchange now that I'm a owner, not a prospective customer.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for >49 years. I own a 30 year old Martin D12-28. Until recently I owned a D35. I also have a hand crafted Spanish classical guitar.

I've owned Ovation acoustiic/electric, a Guild 6-string acoustic, and a Gretsch 3/4 size electric. In the 1960's I had a Epiphone Texan built in Kalamazoo.

This Zage is as good, if not bettert than any of the others I've owned.

Features : 10
The finish is shiny and black; It is made of spruce and mahogany - solid woods. The electronics aren't over my head and adequate for what I like to do (strumming and playing for fun). It also has a built-in tuner.

Sound : 10
I got my Zager last week, and I have really enjoyed it. I like to finger pick, play chords, and sing. It has a nice, rich sound. My previous guitar, a modified 1970's Alvarez, sounds twangy compared to the clear sound of a good strum on the Zager. Pull-offs and hammer-ons are much easier because of the lowered action.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up before arrival by Mr. Zager himself. It was well done (all I had to do was retune and put in a fresh battery). I have a cheap fender amp, but the Zager comes in loud and clear with the plug in. Best of all, my two sons (aged 8 and 9) who had previously gotten frustrated by sore fingers on my old Alvarez were able to finger chords and strum for quite a while with the lower action on my new Zager. Their interest in learning guitar is renewed, and I am planning on getting one for each of them.

Reliability/Durability : 10
My guitar is solid. It is made from spruce and mahogany and thus far has proven quite solid. The electronics and built in tuner are good quality as well.

Customer Support : 10
Being new, I have not yet needed to get it repaired. There is a lifetime warranty nonetheless, which says alot about Zager's confidence in the quality of his guitars. His son, Dennis Zager, Jr., was very kind and e-mailed me promptly about his inventory and was kind enough to inquire about my satisfaction with the guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for 15 years. I have played friends' pricey Taylors, and this guitar definitely holds its own. It sounds as good or better as they did. I would definitely get another (and actually am planning to buy 2 more for my sons). It is quite a bargain, considering I got it for under $500 (actually $495).

I own the venetian cutaway model, but they sell an dreadnought, orchestra size and a 3/4 ("baby") size. I am not sure I can answer detailed questions about the electronics, but it suits my needs as a non-professional, play-for-fun guitarist.
It has a tuner and electronic unit that controls the guitar volume and sound when plugged into an amplifier.
The top is solid spruce and the back is solid mahogony. It has a great sound whether plugged or unplugged.

Sound : 10
I received my new black ZAD 50 CE Acoustic/Electric last week. I love it! I have played some of my friends' high dollar guitars, and I have to say that the Zager sounds as good or better. It has a built in tuner and can be played like an electric (I have a cheap fender amp, and it still sounds good). It has a rich sound, and suits me well for finger picking and cord strumming. I can't think of anything I don't like about it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar had already been set up by Mr. Zager himself before shipping. I did, of course, retune it as soon as I received it, and it did great. There were no flaws, and the action was so good that my 2 young sons could play it! They are aged 8 and 9 and had been previously discouraged about learning guitar. I tried to teach them some easy chords on my old guitar like E minor and A, but they would get mad because their fingers would hurt when pressing on the strings. Well, I let them have a try with my black ?Zagermeister,? and within minutes they could finger and play the cords perfectly! My younger son (who previously gave up on guitar and said he wanted to play drums) now wants a Zager of his own (and so does my older son).

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is well made, and I don't forsee that it will wear out anytime soon. The finish, hardware, and strap buttons are all very well done. It has a spruce top and mohagony sides and back - quality wood. The hardware seems just fine and is built into the side of the guitar (I did have to put a new 9 volt in when I first got it though).

Customer Support : 10
Perhaps best of all is the customer support. It was strictly by chance that I found the Zager site on Ebay (I had actually been searching for an acoustic Taylor like my friend has). It sounded too good to be true when I saw over 300 positive reviews and no negatives.
Then, I actually got to ask Dennis Zager, Jr., himself about his inventory. He was very kind and got back with me right away. He also sent me a followup e-mail recently asking if I was happy with my guitar.
If you check their website, there is story after story like this in the testimonials section, which was a big factor in my decision to buy a Zager. And I assure you that I am not disappointed.
They even offer to pay shipping both ways if you decide you aren't happy with your Zager.
They have a lifetime guarantee.

Overall Rating : 10
I love everything about it. I would definitely buy another (and will soon buy 2 more - one for each of my sons in the coming months).

I would be proud to uncase this guitar in ANY crowd. The name made not be as well known as others, but I never bought anything because it had a name on it. This guitar, I can play it. Though it only has one strap button (the second is your choice) it is very solid.

Customer Support : 10
I feel as if they attempt to know all their customers. Any e-mail (which is the only way I have contacted them so far), is answered within twelve hours. AND I don't mean some auto repond e-mail either.

7/14/2006 If you're like me and dont know if you should believe the other testimonials (as I am likely the biggest skeptic you will ever know), then believe this one. The string science system is everything they say it is. I read about it for weeks and decided with the money back guarantee i had nothing to lose. Now I see why they can offer such a guarantee. My new Zager ZAD-50CE is a blast to play. I've only had it a week, but when I took it back to college my room mates and other friends that play couldnt believe how much better I sounded. I never told them that I HADN'T been practicing for hours every day over the summer like they thought. In fact I hardly played at all until this guitar came, now I cant put it down. Thanks Mr. Zager,

James Byrd

I give this a ten here because, obviously, it had all the features that I desired. Anyone who's read this far knows what the stated features of this guitar are; I see no need to cut and paste them again. Suffice it to say that everything promised was received. This guitar was absolutely as advertised.

Sound : 10
The sound is both bright and mellow; rich, deep bass resonance, clear treble, and ringing-forever harmonics. I like to play a little of everything and this guitar handles any acoustic or acoustic/electric application as well as anything I've played before: for a quarter of the cost in some cases.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I could find nothing wrong with this instrument. The set-up is THE THING with a Zager, and I was not disappointed. The guitar was in tune out of the box (3 day transit) and the action was everything I'd hoped for: easy (minimal finger pressure) and low (these strings really do hover just above the frets) with no buzz. In short, everything my now arthritic fretting hand could ask for. The finish is a glossy black with no surface scuffs or scratches. The electronics work fine and the built in tuner is a godsend.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's already withstood some animated jamming. The hardware is solid. It stays in tune. The strap button isn't going anywhere. Like anything else, the finish will last if taken care of but will look like hell if beat up. Do you want to play the guitar or admire it as a work of art? I don't gig but I've already stopped bringing a backup when I get together with friends.

Customer Support : 10
Sixty day return privilege and a lifetime warranty. I didn't think it was possible for emails to be answered as quickly as these folks do. Seriously, I asked a few questions prior to purchasing and every question was answered within an hour. I'm not anticipating any problems.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing off and on (mostly on) since the late 60s. I own a Yamaha FG-300 (1970), an Epiphone Casino, and a few others...also a solid state Peavey and an ancient Gibson Duo Medalist tube amp. I'd heard about and read a lot about the Zager guitars and was intrigued by so many good reviews. I was especially interested in the EZ Play claims as some developing arthritis in my left hand actually had me contemplating the end of my playing days. I was not disappointed. I looked at other guitars but was not satisfied with the action, sound, or price. I figured I'd take a chance, based on the reviews and return privilege; and I'm glad I did. Yes, I'd buy another if this one were lost or stolen.

Read the product description:

Having all of the attributes of our Zager ZAD-50, the ZAD-50CE Acoustic/Electric takes it one step further with a built in transducer and electronics package that allows it to be plugged into an amplifier and played like an electric. It has a full size venetian cutaway box that allows your left hand to slide down low for those hard to reach chords. The onboard electronics package with equalization gives you the ability to change the sound according to your playing style. It also has a built in electronic tuner with LED readout that allows you to tune your guitar in a fraction of the time it takes using conventional tuning methods. Being an acoustic and electric the ZAD-50CE is like having two guitars in one.

Overall Rating : 10
I am a beginner (at 58 years old). This guitar is easier to play than most accoustics for a fraction of the cost. I would definitely buy another one if this one were lost or stolen. I have shown it to all my family and friends and even the folks at the music store I take lessons from were impressed with the quality, sound and playability. Great guitar, great price and great service. A hard combination to beat.

Submitted 06/22/2006 at 09:52pm by Larry Cannon

Features : 10
The Zager ZAD-50CE that I just got (June 20th, 2006) is a cutaway Dreadnought style acoustic/electric with solid spruce top and mahogany sides and back (probably plywood, but don't know for sure). The neck is also mahogany and has a rosewood fretboard with 20 frets. According to the Zager website, www.zagerguitar.com, Denny Zager hand files the frets to eliminate buzzing and to make them easier on the fingers. The tuning heads are sealed Grovers.

The sound hole is surrounded by a nice, simple abalone inlay. The binding around the edges of the body and the neck are ivory colored and are seamless -- very smooth. The top of the body is book-matched spruce. Although the sides and back are probably mahogany plywood, the grain is beautiful and the back of the guitar is not flat, but has a nice, gently rounded contour. All finishes on the guitar are impeccable.

I don't know that much about electronics, but the electronics are ClearWave 10, which includes a three-band equalizer and a "presence" slide pot, volume, low battery indicator, and built-in tuner. These all work and sound fine. Sorry, can't tell you much about the pickups.

Sound : 9
My style is all over the map. I especially like the acoustic version of the Eagle's "Hotel California", I like Celtic music with an acoustic guitar for rhythm. I'm really just learning so don't have a certain style.

That said, this guitar has a nice well-rounded sound. I looked seriously at Seagulls, but the ones in my price range ($400 - $600) all had cedar tops, which to me are just too dead sounding. The Zager rings when you play it. It's fitted with very light gauge strings which probably helps. For a "compromised Dreadnought" (it has the cutaway), it sounds pretty good, and I'm happy with it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
As mentioned, the overall fit and finish is flawless. I know I'm supposed to be critical here, but I can find no fault in it. Most guitars with mahogany woods are darker in color. The mahogany on this one is amber, and it's just really nice to look at.

I will be very honest at this point and say that I'm not sure there's all that much to Zager's "string science". The ZAD does seem somewhat easier to play, but all the guitars I looked at in the guitar shops were strung with standard guage strings. The ZAD came with ultralight strings. I looked at several S series Seagull guitars and I think their strings were closer to the fretboard than my Zager. I will say that the Zager does not buzz at all.

The intonation on the Zager is not perfect. Yes, it sounds pretty good, but when you, for instance, press on the fourth fret of the bottom E to get an A, it's sharp -- the handy-dandy little tuner tells me so. One of the reasons I wanted a Seagull is that the bridge is fully compensated for intonation. The Zager's pretty good, but not perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I really, really, really wanted a guitar that was made either in the U.S., Canada, or Japan (like an Alvarez Yairi). My second choice would be Korea, and then China or Indonesia. The Zager is made in Indonesia in the same factory where Martin's "Sigma" guitars are made. I was disappointed with it being made in Indonesia, and Zager's website does not mention where they're made, so I only found this out when I opened the box. To be fair, I don't think anyone else who sells off-shore guitars admits it, either. Martin's website doesn't.

That said, I just don't know how well it'll hold up. Zager's guarantee, though, is for life, and I think I'm comfortable with that. It is outfitted with genuine Grover tuning heads, and according to Zager's website, the guitars are made to Denny Zager's specifications.

Customer Support : 10
All my dealings with the company, so far, have been very quick and friendly. Haven't had the guitar long enough to warrant repairs.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing guitars on and off for 35 years or so -- I'm just a hack. My benchmark is an Alvarez Yairi that I once owned. Wish I could afford another.

I love that the Zager is beautiful, sounds very nice, and is fairly easy to play. I hate that it's made in Indonesia. I love having touches like the abalone inlay around the sound hole, and Grover tuning heads. If I'd had the money, I would've bought a Yair. I didn't and think that the Zager is a good choice (and I am PICKY!).

Features : 10
The ZAD50-CE is an acoustic electric with cutaway with built-in electronics and a digital tuner. Made in 2006, factory in China (also makes Martins), booked spruce top with a mahogany body and sealed Grover tuning gears. Very nice and super smooth gloss finish all over! The neck has a nice dark rosewood fretboard that matches the rosewood bridge. Sets off the spruce and mahogany beautifully! The neck is standard scale (21 fret), but a with a very minute increase in width and string spacing. The action is very light and smooth. The case is a hardshell with a plush, well fitting interior. It locks and has a large covered storage compartment in the neck area and a built in digital humidity sensor. It's a solid and well built case. Just the protection needed for the guitar when faced with careless luggage gorillas!

Sound : 10
The unamplified sound is bright, mellow, and resonant. It has a very rich sound with a very satisfying fullness. Amping it with the amp set flat opens up much more sound just with the onboard electronics (bass, mid, treble, and presence). A wide range of tone and timbre is on the guitar electrics itself. Add the amp controls and it'll push the sound anywhere you'd like!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Setup was great, action absolutely just right for myself, low and easy! Fit and finish, are right on the money. The wood would rate up there also but the left side of the spruce top has a blemish below the bridge and the two halves don't appear to be from the same piece of spruce. Does give it character though.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything looks and feels solid and top quality. I'd depend on this without thinking about it. I would give it a rock solid, but time will tell. For now, it sure looks like it'll do what's asked of it.

Customer Support : 10
I've only dealt with Zager on the original purchase. They're very timely, delivery was less than a week from purchase. They kept me informed of the order, date of shipping, how to track, and requested a mail back to ensure all was well when I received it!

Overall Rating : 10
I?ve played about 40 years now, early years with groups. Had a few years off, then started again. Been playing on and off as a ?hobbyist? and enjoy being able to get with others to play.
I enjoy music, also keyboard, but mostly have the best enjoyment with a guitar, just plunking and picking out songs or my own 'stuff' here and there for my own pleasure. I?ve been through quite a series of new and used 6 and 12 string acoustics and electrics. Just enjoy the sound of those strings and enjoy playing,
This ZAD50-CE is just a beauty of a guitar with a very bright yet mellow sound and a simple light and easy playability that I haven?t heard or felt in my prior guitars. I just spent a couple of hours enjoying playing again!! I am glad I made this purchase. I don?t want to put it down! Denny and son put out a great product. Quick service, out of the case on the nose setup, and a beautiful sound and finish. I'm absolutely pleased with it! Please make a 12 string!!

Bought this guitar new, I assume it's 2005-6. The Mahogany shell came from indonesia and finish work was done in Lincoln, Nebraska. It features a solid Spruce top, Martin strings and sealed Grover tuning gears. It has built-in electrics, EQ and tuner. The bridge and neck are rosewood and has 20 frets. Body is a high-gloss, lacquered finish with nice Abalone inlay touches. Purchase came with an extra set of strings, and a hex key

Sound : 10
I was looking for a clear-ringing strummer for laid-back country/rock/folk. I have been using a Tacoma acoustic and I wasn't getting the sustain that I wanted. This guitar offers much more of the full-bodied tone that I was looking for, partly due to the much larger body size. As noted elsewhere on this site, the Tacoma has a nice dry sound -- but is unforgiving. I'm playing the new guitar with a Marshall and the sound is crisp, clear and exactly what I was looking for.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The reason I went with this lesser-know name over the more famous (and more common) names is maker Denny Zager personally customizes his guitars, dropping the action and adjusting the set-up for playability. Actually, I wasn't prepared for how easy the guitar would be to play right out of the box after my Tacoma -- which, for my skill level is a very challenging guitar. I haven't been able to put down the Zager. It's so much more enjoyable. Frets, nut and saddle are all hand-carved and produce a easy, long action. The only complaint I might have is that I would probably prefer a satin finish to the high gloss, but it's really a minor issue.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have seen no reason to believe that this guitar will fail me anytime soon. The lifetime warranty that came with the guitar is a nice added incentive for a moderately-price instrument.

Customer Support : 10
I had questions up front. The company responded to all of them quickly and forthrightly. I wasn't completely keen on buying an instrument based on imported materials, but it's a modern reality. I liked that Denny Zager and his son seem to be hands-on with all set-up, customizing, sales and customer relations. There were actually few reasons not to buy with them. They offer a money-back guarantee and a full life-time warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing off-and-on for 20 years, though most of that time I was working with some really crappy instruments. I really stepped up my playing with my Tacoma "Chief" acoustic. I would definitely replace the Zager with another Zager. I really like that it is a lesser-known, fine instrument. I suspect guitars are like everything else in American culture: to be really "in" you've got to be playing the "Gucci" of guitars. I'm prefer being more out of the mainstream if I can get away with it.

This is a beautiful Blach dreadnought style with a cutaway. Zager really went out of their way to produce such a fine instrument. It didn't cost the thousands like some of the high end well known name guitars that are out there, but then again, the overhead for this company may not be as much, who knows. The bottom line is, this is a well constructed and lots of attnetion to detail was paid. Was hand crafted by someone who loves the beauty of this fine piece of art. If you haven't played one, get one. Worth the investment and the electronics are crisp, clean and pure. I have been playing since 1971 on a Mosrite electric. This Zager literally walks all over my other acoustics. Thanks for listening & Stay in tune!

Suits my southern rock, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac style. Sounds very nice!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Set up by a pro, no complaints. No flaws I can see.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I can gig with this and have no fears of an embarrassment on stage.

Customer Support : 10
Hands down the quickest rsponse by customer support and by phone whenever I had a question it was addressed immediately.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing since 1971.
I own a Les Paul, a real one, not a cheap copy.
I own a Fender Strat USA
I own several acoustics from Washburn to Martin
I wish I had asked for a case.
If it were stolen I ould have my insurance company replace it in a heart beat. I will not be without one again.
I love the color, the electronics, the tuners, it is all around great.
I compared it to other guitars. Taylor, Martin, Fender, Takamine
Get one, I wont share mine!

I recieved my zager guitar a few months ago. Over these few months i've played it and checked it over and I must say that I am very impressed. It features a solid sitka spruce top, mahagany back and sides, and rosewood fretboard. Its got sealed grover tuners, which work very smoothly.the electronics on it are also very nice. They are cleanly installed and very functional. the built in tuner is great too. the neck is slightly narrower which makes it easy to reach just about any chord. With the zager easy play modification the strings are lower torwards the front frets, and they don't buzz. Over all great guitar.

Sound : 10
The sound that comes out of this guitar is amazing. When I first got it the guitar has a slight tinny sound to it. Now the tinny sound is almost all gone, and i'm sure that over time it will go away completely. the sound is very rich and room filling. The electronics give a good range of sounds as well when plugged into an amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
from the day i got it the action and set up has been great. It hardly ever needs tuning. The wood is all in excelent condition and has a very nice glossy finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've never played live with this guitar as i'm not in a band but it seems like it would do it exceptionally well if i wanted to. The hardware all seems good and looks like it would last. plays better and better every day. There is no strap button the front of the guitar only one on the back. i may soon get a front one installed. i've taken this guitar on trips with me and its never let me down.

Customer Support : 10
the customer support was out of this world. excellent response times and they were always very nice. i was kept informed all every little detail while my guitar was being made and when it was shipped.excellent customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar CANNOT be beaten for the price. I have played some high end $2000 martins and i have to say they do play better then this guitar but this guitar was not blown away. the action and finish on both guitars was very close to the same. The martin just had a mellower tone, all the notes were deeper, smoother. but hey thats a $2000 guitar. My zager was only $495. and its worth every penny and more.

Sealed Grover tuning gears. Rosewood bridge. Hard carved custom nut and custom saddle. Hand filed frets. Scalloped X-bracing. Tortoise shell pick guard.

The ZAD-50CE is an acoustic/electric with a warn, full sound. There is absolutely no string buzz. I love the tonality.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar is personally modified by Denny Zager according to his "string science" method to play much easier than ANY comparably priced and many more expensive instruments. It is an absolutely beautiful looking guitar - checked thoroughly by Denny before being shipped.

Reliability/Durability : 10
All Zager guitars come with a lifetime warranty and a 100% money back guaranteed - including freight costs. It is built to last.

I just received my ZAD-50CE. It arrived right on schedule (I arranged
to work from home to be here for delivery). The guitar is beautiful
and plays as E-Z as advertised. The sound is rich and full, without
the tone thinness found in "reasonable" priced acoustics. A co-worker, who owns one of your guitars, was praising it to the skies. I had to see for myself and went to your website. Initially, I couldn't believe the prices for the guitars, especially how they were described. There seemed to be too much value for the price (and it was on special - $50 discount). Then I started reading the testimonials. Unbelievably positive. You couldn't do better if you wrote them yourselves. And a 100% money back guarantee. OK, I was convinced and ordered the 50CE. The only regret was that you didn't have the sunburst in stock (but I didn't want to wait).
I've owned guitars since 1964, when I received a Zimgar electric (as bad as you'd think). Since then I've owned a Gretsch Tennessean, Gibson SG, Fender acoustic, Ovation Adamas, '77 Ibanez Standard (which I still play) and the Zager. It plays and sounds better than any acoustic I've tried, including Martin. I would only replace it with another Zager. Too bad Denny doesn't sell electrics.

This ZAD-50CE was bought USED on eBay with a Zager hard shell case. From what I've learned, Zager guitars are made in China at the same factory that Martin's Sigmas are made. They start with the same materials but make the Zagers according to Denny Zager's specs. Mine was made for it's first owner in May of 2005. Here are the specs:

- Full size dreadnought cutaway
- Solid spruce top
- Mahogany back & sides
- Sealed "Grover" Tuning Gears
- Abalone inlay rosette
- Tortoise shell pick guard
- Gloss finish
- Hand carved custom nut
- Hand carved custom saddle
- Hand filed frets
- Scalloped X-bracing
- Rosewood fret-board
- Rosewood bridge
- Genuine "Martin" strings
- Zager EZ-Play Modified
- Lifetime warranty
- 100% money back guarantee

The electronics (can't find a brand name) have faders for bass, mid, treble, and presence. It also has a built-in electronic tuner.

I'm a butt-spankin' new beginner so I don't have a style yet. Mainly just chord strumming. Before I bought my Zager I went to a few guitar shops and played every guitar I could find between $250 and $600 (Martin, Ibanez, Washburn, Garrison, Ovation). This guitar blows them all away. The thing I'm most impressed with are the overtones that are present even when one string is played. Something else that blows me away is the amount of sound that comes from this guitar. This thing is bright, warm, and loud. I have no dislikes in this category.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Although this guitar's sound is phenominal, the thing that is amazing is the action. Zager's method of lowering the action and spacing the strings a little wider (aka "String Science") allows me to practice a LOT longer than I could with any guitar in this price range. This guitar has no flaws other than cosmetic (a couple minor scratches from previous owner). The finish on this guitar is absolutely beautiful. Sunburst, by the way.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I bought this guitar to play in church. Like I said, I'm a beginner, but this thing is SOLID. The hardware seems like it'll last a while (Grover Tuners), nice electronics. The finish is fantastic! I can't imagine a more dependable guitar in this price range. I did my research for months trying to find a guitar that would keep me happy for a while as I learn to play. This IS that guitar.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with the company on a couple occasions just to ask newbie type questions. They have welcomed me with open arms even though I bought my guitar used. Quick, informative, friendly response on all occasions.

Oh yeah! By the way, they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you buy directly from Zager and don't like it, you can send it back for a full refund no questions asked. They'll even pay the shipping! Do you know ANY guitar companies that will do that?

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing (learning) for about six months. I began on a little Washburn Rover travel guitar (I love it!). If this guitar was lost or stolen I would replace it immediately! When I'm away from my Zager, my hands (and ears) long for it! I LOVE everything about this guitar! I am such a beginner that the action doesn't matter that much to me yet... I know it will eventually. The thing I love the most about this guitar is it's sound. I bought this guitar used on eBay ONLY because Zager didn't have a Sunburst ZAD-50CE in stock. Plus, I was able to get the guitar AND the case I wanted for a good bit less.

I would have paid FULL price for this guitar!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
FLAWLESS fit & finish. I've had all my previous guitars set up by professional luthiers...this guitar is good to go upon receipt. Amazing, especially the fretwork and string height, hammers, pulls and chord changes are effortless. It's a shame the rating is limited to 10

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is a player built to last. Everything is top notch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this instrument.

Immediate follow up on the initial order and best of all...no surprises! Can't beat the warranty: Zager believes a quality guitar should last a lifetime and that's their warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I've played for 40 year and all 4 of my kids play. We love this guitar! It comes down to sound and playability. I don't believe you can find a comparable guitar at 2 or 3 times the price. Not only would I buy another if this one were lost or stolen, I am buying another one because this is everybody's first choice to play. Look at the whole package, great playability, great sound, fit & finish, a company that stands behind their product and an affordable price. That's value. The thing I would change...I should have bought one years ago.

I have played guitar since 1976. I have had 3 yamaha guitars, 1 washburn 6 string, 1 G&L Invader, 1 strat, 1 guild 12 string, 1 martin 6 string. This is the best playing guitar I have ever had, I would buy it again. My favorite feature is the built in tuner and the low action it has with no buzz. It makes playing, enjoyable and gets my creative juices flowing. I would recommend it to others. I also appreciate the on line tools and teaching available at zagerguitar.com .

This guitar ha excellent features. It has a gorgeous finish, and is an extremely attractive looking Dreadnought. Built in eq and tuner really great. It has a solid spruce top and really sounds beautiful, both acoustically, and through an amp. The ez play modifications really make playing comfortable, and easier on the fingers.

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds great. It sounds as rich and clear as any high priced guitar I have heard, at a much lower price. I play it mostly as an acoustic, but it sounds just as good through an amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came ready to go. I can see no flaws, and it looks stunning. It is jet black with a brilliant shine. It's craftsmanship is of high quality.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I believe this guitar to be very dependable. I have only had it a short time, but it looks and feels solid.

I was truly impressed with Zager. Dennis Zager answered my questions via e-mail within 20 minutes. He answered them thoroughly, and left me with no doubt that he really cared about his quitars, and the people that use them. He is available to be reached on the phone as well, though he was able to help me through just e-mail.

Overall Rating : 10
Love the guitar. I played many years ago, and only recently picked it back up. The ez play adjustments intrigued me (strings a little further apart, and low to the fret board), and it really helps. I have been playing at least an hour a day, and have not gotten any caluses on my fingers, and it plays and sounds like a dream. No regrets whatsoever.I did not think I would be able to find a guitar of this quality at the $500.00 price.

These features I copy pasted from the site that apply to my situation, I must also meantion the wide stance strings on the frettboard and the slim comfort neck. It also seems to be balanced better than my Fender, it sits better on my lap and the neck does not pull down.
Mine came with extra strings and a T-shirt, plus two picks, (one of which my dog ate, but Zager is sending me another one....)

Sound : 10
This guitar is perfect for my situation, because I did my research. I played every single guitar I could get my hands on over the last six months. I wasn't entirely happy with what I found in my price range. Also, even properly set up, most guitarts still were too thick in the neck and the strings to close together for me. I play native american flute and accompany myself on the guitar, (laying down tracks, I don't actually play both at the same time).
I have a Fender tube amp, which greatly compliments the sound of this guitar.
I have not heard the kind of sound that this guitar makes since I was a young person listening to my Dad play his Top-of-the-line Silvertone in 1965. It "Clucks like a chicken" when your pickin' and it "rings like a bell" when strummed. The harmonics are right on this one.
It is in a class of its own for sound, and I love it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I found the guitar ready to play right out of the box.
The electronic tuner is great, only takes amoment to get the sound just right. The tuning holds, even though the strings are new and still stretching.
I broke both my arms and neck in a horse training accident 20 years ago. Although I still love to play the guitar, I had to play lightly or not at all because of nerve damage. When I saw Mr. Zager's guitar, I knew I had nothing to lose by trying it, with the 100% satisfaction guarantee.
I have a Fender DG-8,and a Custom Fender Telecaster both professionally set-up. I can play neither without cramping and pain.
Mr. Zager has made his guitar ergonimic. No flaws I can find anywhere on it, tightly, well assembled and set-up. Action is low with no buzzing and little finger pressure. the thinner neck allows arthritic fingers to reach and the wider string stance nakes up for my poor coordination from nerve damage, (I don't mute strings anymore without knowing it).

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is actually heavier than my Fender DG-8. It seems rock solid, and I know it will serve me a lifetime.
All components are tight and functional, the finish thick, the tortoise shell pickgaurd is thick and resists scratching better than plastic.
I would definatley use it without a back-up, but I only carry a back-up in case a string breaks mid-song.Then I change the string and get back to my "real" guitar.
This is the guitar I will play for the rest of my life, and if it fails me, I will still buy another Zager. For me it is an issue of pain. I can play painlessly on the Zager. If you have arthritis, don't quit playing, do your homework and get a painless guitar. If you have $3,000, you can have anything you want, I just had $500 so I got more than my money's worth with this beautiful, fine instrument I will be proud to pass on to my Grandkids.

Customer Support : 10
Mr. Zager. his Son & Staff are always there for you.
If you doubt it, check out the site and ask a question. You will get an immediate reply.
Try that suggestion at your local music store. I did and they laughed at me, said they'ld be out of business if they took guitars back. I was a thirty year customer and spent thousands there, and they weren't interested in whether I'm actually happy with my purchase once I'm out the door. Oh, and this is not just one music store, I visited several others and put the "Zager" challenge before them, not a bite.
I'll stick with friendly people to whom a sale is never final, thank you.
LIFETIME WARRANTY

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 42 years.
I have A Fender DG-8
Fender Custon Telecaster FMT
Martin back-packer
These guitars are now for sale since even after two set-ups apiece, I still can't play them without pain.
If my Zager dies or dissapears, I will by another Zager. I'm handicapped. I have no other choice.Perhaps there is abetter guitar out there, show it too me! It better not cost more that $500!
I don't know about this love or hate stuff, this is just a darn good guitar that I can actually play for days, and sound good too. It's a no-brainer for me.
The thing is, if you have arthritis or a disability, you're probably not to big in the Bucks department either. This guitar will make you feel like a pro for less money than a big bottle of pain killers, and you won't need the painkillers because you played the guitar. It's nice to be able to play again, you can't be depressed for long when you sound this good.
What have you got to lose? If you can't play it, Mr. Zager will take it back.
If you want to talk to me about it, email me. I stand behind my opinion just like Zager stands behind my guitar.

I have 2 Ibanez (1 elec.,1 acoust.), a lonestar, a yamaha, a fender strat, a fender acoustic, a squier strat, and a custom acoustic by a friend of my dads. No second guessing myself with this buy.....asked a million questions....all answered immmediately. I love how it looks.....but the looks on this guitar are the lowest on the list of attributes. It sounds and plays like a dream....enough said. To me it plays and sounds better than guitars many times more expensive than it. I chose the ZAD50CE because I wanted to try his more basic guitar, even though there is nothing basic about it!!, and I love the black finish and inlay. It really is a fine piece of craftsmanship and it was made from experience not market hype or surveys or what-not cammercial methods. It is their life at ZAGER and they spend it with guitars......to me the choice is simple. NO OTHER GUITAR LIKE THESE!!!

I purchased this acoustic electric guitar in February of this year because of the great reviews I had heard about it. It has 20 frets, solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, built in electronics with EQ. and tuner with guitar strap audio jack. Rosewood fretboard and bridge. Sealed Grover tuners. Venetian cutaway dreadnought body with gloss finish. Hand carved custom nut and saddle and hand filed frets. The neck is a little thinner and the strings spaced slightly further apart for large fingers like mine. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, period.

Sound : No Opinion
This guitar is great for my use which is flat picking with a small band we have at church. We also play at nursing homes and senior citizen centers. I use it with a Marshall AS50R 50-watt acoustic guitar amplifier. I have not noticed any noise with it, has a bright sound and I do not use any effects with it. I personally think this guitar would peform great for a finger picker. I have been playing it for approximately 6 weeks, no dislikes so far.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar was set up by Denny Zager before it was shipped. I am just a novice but to me the action is better than my two other guitars which cost alot more. I can honestly say I have not found a flaw in or with the guitar. The fit and finish are superb.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I personally think you could depend on this guitar, however you wanted to play it. I take it frequently and never take a backup, I do not abuse my guitars but I don't baby them either when I play. I firmly believe the fit and finish on this instrument is very good and it will stand up to many years of use.

Customer Support : 9
It comes with a lifetime warranty and a 100% money back guarantee. I don't think you will find a better warranty than that. I have not had any trouble with the guitar yet but have contacted the company a couple of times for information and they are very courteous and helpful. I am fully confident of them if the time comes that I would need any warranty work.

Overall Rating : 9
I might add, the price I paid for the guitar included a custom case and $40 shipping charges, which is refundable if dissatisfied. I have been playing off and on for around 50 years. I would not hesitate to buy this guitar again if it were lost or stolen. I also own a Fender ESD-10 dreadnought and an Alvarez AJ60SC12 Jumbo 12 string. I also have McSpadden mountain dulcimer which I enjoy playing at times.

Spruce top, mahogany sides, two panel back, cut-away body, gloss finish.
Rosewood fret board and bridge, abalone inlay around sound hole.
Built in equilizer and electronic tuner.
Custom cut saddle and nut. Grover tuners.
The list goes on and on.

First, I'm not a professional musician, but I have been playing since 1963. My usual music is acoustic folk, stuff I've learned over the years. I'm using the ZAD 50CE without amplification and the sound is very rich and full. I had a friend's Martin D35 on loan, a very nice sounding guitar. I didn't mind, at all, retuning it after a few days with the Zager.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Fresh out of the box, I turned on the electronic tuner, pulled it up and hit a chord. Sweet! Out of all the guitars I've owned, probably about a dozen, this one has the easiest action of any.
Giving it a once over, the finish is outstanding, first rate. Everything fits well, with no noticeable mismatched surfaces.
The only thing I noticed was a damaged string peg. I contacted Dennis and they immediately mailed a totally new set of 6.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I've had the ZAD 50 for only two weeks so I can't testify on long term wear and tear, but just from the feel, everything seems tight and should last. This may be my last guitar purchase.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Only having the guitar for about 2 weeks, I've had no warranty claims, other then the replacement string pegs.

I've been playing non-professionally for about 40 years. I've gone through about a dozen classical and steel string guitars, 6 and 12 string, including that 1974 vintage Martin D35. Whenever I wanted to play something with a finger picking style, I went back the the nylon strings because of the wider string spacing and ease of play. I no longer feel the need to pick up the classical guitar because the ZAD 50, with its EZ Play modified strings, is so easy to pick. There's a little extra spacing between the strings and the action is so light, it's a joy to play.

I went searching for a cut-away body guitar and found the Zager listed on ebay. The price was about right, it came with a 100% money back guarantee, and it had the features I wanted. I contacted Dennis and ordered one. Shipping was prompt.

At $500, this guitar is a tremendous value. It sounds great and plays easily. What more could you want?

The ZAD 50CE is a six string cut away acoustic electric. It was made in December 2005, it has a solid spruce top, rosewood fret board, and Mahogony body. The finish is clear and arrived very very buffed. The guitar was made overseas, but modified in the fine State of Nebraska at Denny Zager's shop. I ordered the orchestra style body, (less depth than a dreadnaught), because deep dreadnaught bodies wear out my shoulder. There are twelve frets to the neck, but higher frets are easily reached due to the cut away body style. It comes with a clear wave preamp and internal electronic tuner. It has sealed grover tuners and a thin neck. You can order a Martin Wood Case (which I did) for about $125 bucks. The case is very nice and in my humble opinion worth the money. With the guitar comes with a second set of Martin Strings, a Zager Guitar T-Shirt, and via e-mail comes a link to video sites that explain tuning, and other care and maintenance discussions regarding your new guitar.

I am a fingerstyle player. Denny Zager sets up his guitars with low action and wide string spacing. This really works very very well for finger style playing. This is now my favorite guitar because it is so EASY to play. The electronics work well with my Ultrasound Acoustic Amp. The bass is a little shy and you have to adjust that on the Pre amp and the amp. However I expected that, this is the orchestra model so the body isn't as deep as the dreadnaught style guitars. There is no extraneous noise when plugged in. I would describe the sound as punchy, crisp and clean. You can extract clear, warbling vibrato out of this guitar with very little effort. There is nothing I dislike about this guitar except that I can't stay home all day and play it. Someone has to pay the bills and I guess that's me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar came from Denny Zager's shop setup and ready to play. The action is very low and very clean. The neck is smooth and thin it is very easy to run up and down the neck with great speed. There is no fret buzz, even when I drop tuning into drop D or F Wahine Tunings CFCGCE. The frets, bridge and nut were all perfect. The finish is outstanding. I intentionally purchased on blemished model to save money (kids to feed) and we still haven't found the blemish. Besides that if your worried about looks, get out of music and go into modeling. This is a very nice guitar and it plays very easy without extraneous noise.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I won't give this a ten because I've only had this guitar a month, so as far as long-term durability I couldn't testify, I've played it everday since I got it for one to two hours a day and I found no faults in workmanship or reliability. It appears to be solidly built, the finish is clear and unblemished. The electronics perform just great and are well seated within the wood. All fittings with the tuners, frets, brigde, nut and strap are well seated with no excess glue or blemishes. I'd take it out to play in a heartbeat. It doesn't appear to be a fraile wallflower by any means.

Customer Support : 10
Finally, the customer service is the best of any guitar dealer I have ever dealt with. I never waited more than twenty-four hours before I got a personal e-mail from Dennis, and I asked a lot of questions, so he had to write a lot. I'm probably on his Christmas Card list now. The impression I got in dealing with the staff is that they care about music, their product, and their customers. It was almost as if they wanted me to be satisfied and buy another guitar in the future. I will. As a customer and amateur musician, I trust Zager Guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for two-years. I own a Takamine G-10, PSF-95, Baby Taylor, and Fender Strat. If this guitar were lost, I would buy another ZAD 50CE. For the money, it's too good a guitar not to replace. I like the low action and wide string spacing and very light and comfortable body. I love the sound and especially the vibrato you can draw out of this guitar. Oh, I forgot the harmonics... they're crazy good. I mean they ring and ring. The body of this guitar resonates with sound like many of the higher end Taylors and Martins. I did compare this with many guitars to include the Martin D-16, Taylor 710-L9CE, Seagull Flame Maple artist Series, as well as my current guitars. This was the most playable guitar. Sound wise it is very clean, clear and punchy. It doesn't have the base of the Taylor or Martin, but then again it is an orchestra style body, and it cost 4 times less. This is a very nice guitar. It has become my favorite player. For the money or perhaps three times the money, you can't beat this guitar, great value, great sound.

This is a follow-up from my first post some time back. I'll call it THE ZAGER PROMISE. As luck would have it, my luck, I had my 50CE for about three or four months and it started fretting out badly. Every now and again you get a guitar and the wood does some weird things while curing and the face can drop and so on. Most of the time you?re screwed and have to spend a ton of money on a luthier to get a guitar like this to play, if it ever will again. NOT WITH A ZAGER. Keep in mind I have had this guitar for probably six months and tried everything I knew to fix it and couldn?t. I finally gave up and e-mailed Denny. He sent me a shipping label immediately and I sent the guitar back. Again on their dime. Denny worked on it and sent it back to me and the action was off the hook so to speak. It didn?t fret out any longer but played like hell. Denny explained to give it a few months and see if it settled down. It did somewhat but it still did not play like I wanted it to and seemed un-balanced. Something just didn?t seem right with it. Hell it could have been me at this point. Frustrated I contacted Dennis Jr. and told him of my problem and he said no problem we will send you a new one. It arrived yesterday in a top of the line hardshell case. That thrown in for my trouble. The new guitar and I are becoming fast friends and I am tickled with the service. I have owned many makes of guitars and I can guarantee with most high end companies I would have been abandoned me leaving me with a guitar I wasn?t happy with. All I can say is the Zager promise is for real. They stand behind their product and will do what no company does to make their customer happy. I am simply stunned by these folks. So if you are reading this and you are looking for not only a great guitar but a true American success story who stand behind their product. Get a Zager. You will not regret it.

The ZAD-50CE Acoustic/Electric takes it one step further with a built in transducer and electronics package that allows it to be plugged into an amplifier and played like an electric.

If someone is just starting out This is the type of Guitar to start with. The Zager EZ-Play is Great. The guitar is great. High quality for a lower price, probably almost impossible to beat. Solid spruce top, mahogany sides and back, rosewood fretboard & bridge. Has a built in tuner and pickup with EQ. Passive pickups (as almost all acoustic electrics have). Grover tuners. It has a nice thin neck... smooth and easy to use. I really like it so far.

Sound : 10
It suits my style of music well. I play mostly for myself but everything from acoustic rock to bluegrass. It works great as far as I can tell. It has a great, full, bright sound. I love the tone and overall resonance. I would like it to have just a bit more bass BUT that could be because the original strings are really light (but it is all about your preference as a guitarist; other might prefer it this way). Nothing else in this price range that I have seen or tried (and I have seen and heard quite a few working in recording) has played and sounded this good for under $500.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was hand setup by Denny Zager himself (just like every guitar that has the Zager name on it). The nut is resulped and lowered. The frets are hand filed (reducing string bite)and fatigue. Everything from the saddle to the intonation of the guitar are precisely checked and it shows. No flaws as far as I can tell. Just by looks alone you would think it cost a lot more. The action is amazing, as low as most electrics without any buzz... great setup by Denny.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I am sure the guitar will withstand live playing (although I have yet to do so). The hardware, fit and finish are high quality (grover tuners, well polished ect.) and it feels as if it is built to last. Everything seems to be solid and dependable (if not I would have sent it back considering there is a 100% guarantee; shipping included). How can you go wrong? This is only a 9 and not a ten because I haven't had it for years.... yet.

Customer Support : 10
Amazing. That is all there is to it. I have never dealt with a company that cares as much about customer service as it does the quality of there product and both are excellent, possibly the best I've dealt with. If anyone says otherwise they are probably lying. I had a payment issue and they fixed the problems within minutes of reading the email. Amazing service with fast personal responses everytime... what more could you want?

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing about 7 years but I spend more time engineering and recording sound then actually playing (I just graduated college with majoring in video production and minoring in audio engineering). There is nothing that I wish I had asked before buying the guitar that I can't ask right now and get an answer. As I said the customer service is superb so questions are never an issue. If the guitar was stolen, I would be I would first be extremely pissed... and then I would buy another one because there aren't ANY other guitars (left handed especially) in this price range with the same quailty... and you can take that to the bank! I've been looking for a guitar like this for 4 years... but was never statified until now. I love the sound/tone, the quality, the look, the customer service, the playabity/action, the guitar and company are great... period. Truthfully, I was skeptical, and I went to school and quickly learned what's crap and what isn't and there is a lot more crap then quality in the guitar market. I am not a fan at all of non-name brand guitars (because most don't sound very good unless they are custom). This is the quality I have been looking for at a fraction of what I had been saving for. I know Zager isn't Taylor or Martin but if you are looking for a $500- $1000 guitar at least give them a try, and if you don't like it just send it back... although I would be surprised if you didn't like it. If you are focused more on sound and playablity then the "name brand" then this is the guitar for you!

Bought March 2006 from Zager Guitar. Acoustic electric dreadnaught cutaway. Solid spruce top. Mahogany sides and back. Abalone rosette. fully bound body. Gloss finish. Laminated neck with rosewood fretboard. Grover tuners. Built in transducer with Cearwave10 electronics. Built in tuner. Came with an extra set of strings a couple of picks and a tee-shirt.

Sound : 9
Acoustically it sounds very nice and full like a regular dreadnaught. Held it's own in a bluegrass jam. Plugged into church sound system sounded very good. Has more power with active electronics than you'll ever need. Can be adjusted to sound almost any way you like. Through Marshall AS50R sounds very nice. Can be made to sound clean, dirty, bassy any way you want.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Out of box very shiny finish. First guy that saw it thought it was a Taylor. Very nice looking guitar for the price. Binding, abalone, tortoise pickguard. Has a few very small finish flaws like a gloss drip other tiny imperfections. Most people will never see them though. Scalloped bracing lookes great inside. Also very clean assembly inside and out. See no glue stuff at all inside. Looks very well built.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Haven't had it long. The finish of this is as good or better than the guitars I've been playing that cost much more. It should survive live playing very well. Looks very dependable. I would and will play it without a backup. With their lifetime warranty it ought to be fine.

Customer Support : 10
They will answer any and all questions very quickly. Super friendly. Super helpful. Offered to do anything to make me happy. Warranty for life. We'll see 20 years from now cause this one's a keeper.

Exactly what I was looking for. The price said it all for me. Looked too good to be true. But it is very pleasing. Not perfect. But for the price waaaaaay good!! Beats or matches guitars that cost $200 to $300 more.

I received my ZAD50CE yesterday that my wife ordered for me, and I just love it! I have a Martin 3532 guitar with a jack for electric (nothing else) and a Fender Stratocaster Deluxe electric guitar, and neither can compare with the ZAD50CE. Even as a beginner, I could tell immediately that the ZAD50CE is much easier to play and sounds so much better. I am truly amazed at the quality of this quitar. My thanks and congratulations to Denny Zager for making such a high quality guitar.

Sound : 10
I am using a Peavey Ecoustic 112EFX amplifier. With and without the amplifier the ZAD50CE has a rich mellow sound, even much more so than my Martin 3532 accoustic guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The ZAD50CE guitar has no flaws that I have seen. I played guitar for about a year around 15 years ago, I have been playing the guitar again since the first of this year (about 3-months), and have had a problem with sore fingers from both my other two guitars. However, last night I played for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, with almost no sore fingers. Also, the ZAD50CE is easier for me to key chords with my shorter fingers.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I would feel very comfortable using the ZAD50CE anywhere without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
I have been conversing with Dennis Zager, Jr for the last few days, and am very impressed with the helpful/friendly responses I have gotten. I have dealt with several companies concerning other products and also musical instruments, and none have yet come close to being as customer friendly as Zager.

Overall Rating : 10
I have already answered the first and fifth question. If my ZAD50CE were stolen or lost, I would not hesitate buying another to replace it. The major points that have impressed me are: (1) the guitar's solid structure and beauty, (2) the guitar's ease in playing, (3) the guitar's beautiful sound, (4) the exceptional service (quick to respond, friendly, helpful), and (5)the guitar's light weight.

An acoustic guitar's sound is very subjective. However I tried a large variety of guitars (including Martin, Ibanez, Epiphone, Fender & others) in this price range AND NOT ONE could compare to the sound of the Zager. Is it as good as my son's Taylor ???? probably not but its also less than 30% of the cost.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The ZAD50CE I have now is set up wonderfully ... great action. Beautiful wood and accents.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
The guitar is brand new ... so I cannot give it a rating. As far as gigs ... I gave that up some 30+ years ago. This is for personal pleasure ... something ALL guitarist will NEED someday !

Customer Support : 10
This is the hardest one for me to believe. Here's the story ... I ordered a guitar from Zager & it arrived. While it was beautiful - I did NOT care for the action (buying is via e-mail) .. I wrote them stating that I was returning the guitar ... they said no problem. Great ... now I was going to get an acoustic so I went to 3 different guitar shops (tried a lot) and finally decided to buy a very well respected name guitar ($750). I took it home but to my surprise it didn't play that much better than the Zager I was returning (plus it lacked a lot of the features of the Zager). I returned the $750 guitar the next day. Two days later I noticed a hairline crack by the electronics on the Zager. I wrote them and was told they would gladly either give me my $$$ back or send me a new guitar.

I chose a new guitar ... which arrived today (they paid to ship it & to return the other one) !!!

Overall Rating : 10
At the beginning of 2006 I decided to purchase an acoustic (I have a '79 Les Paul) but I'm over 50 now and while its fun to rock in the basement an acoustic "fits" nicely upstairs. I have played for over 35 years - now just for my own personal fun ... and I did try a huge variety of guitars and the Zager I just got has the action of even my son's Taylor - and is far superior to anything else I played (including $1200 Martins). This is SOLELY my opinion about my guitar ... my other passion is golf (and there is no right club/ball/course for everyone) and the same is true for guitars.

Great sounding guitar! Used at home and at gigs. play mostly alternative, rock, and contemporary christian. Use a behringer acoustic amp with built in effects processor. The guitar sounds great playing straight direct through the P.A. Very hot pick-up, on board e.q. adjusts nicely. Sounds better than more expensive acoustics I have played in the past.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is remarkable. Shipped all the way across the U.S. arrived in tune out of the box. The set-up was the best of any guitar I have owned. Finish is great, no flaws. Probably not quite as good of a finish as a $3,000 - $5,000 Taylor or Martin, but still a good look and finish. If someone wants to pay 3-5 grand just to get a superb flawless finish thats fine, but to me playability and tone is where it counts. For the price of this guitar you can not beat it. It is truly impressive how good Mr. Zager is at setting up these guitars. This guitar is truly as good as the reviews are saying.

Reliability/Durability : 10
seems to be a well put together guitar with good hardware. I feel it will last a lifetime, besides that Mr. Zager stands behind his work, the guitar has a Lifetime warranty. I would definitely use it at a gig without a back-up. Matter of fact I did just that this past weekend. We had a small acoustic show at a local church it was the only guitar I carried with me. The guitar stays in tune better than you can imagine.

Customer Support : 10
Customer support is amazing. I have e-mailed Mr.zager and usually I have a respone within minutes.

I have been playing for 15 years. I have owned a couple of Alvarez acoustics and the Zager has a better sound and plays much easier. I shopped around a long time before getting the Zager. I played Martins, Taylors, Gibsons, you name it, I just could not see paying the premium price. If I had the extra money to dish out I might would I gotten one, but I would be scared to carry it out to a gig or on the road. In my opinin for the money this guitar can not be beat. Far as the sound and playability I feel it would hold its own against any more expensive guitar.

My daughter came over and brought her Takamine acoustic/electric with her that had similar features and we compared guitars. There was no contest as the Zager sounded much fuller and projected much more. The Takamine sounded kind of dead compared to the ZAD-50CE. My daughter could not put it down! She wants one for herself. I have not compared it side by side with a Martin or a Taylor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The only problem I had was the guitar strap pin which has the audio jack built in was a little loose. Dennis Zager Jr. told me to take it to a local luthier and have them fix it and submit the bill to them. The luthier tightened it with no problem and afterwards briefly played the guitar and he told me it was set up well and had nice low action. He had a shop full of expensive instruments and has been in business for many years so I valued his opinion.
The Zager Guitar comp[any promptly reimbursed me for the repair and when whty did they shipped me 2 sets of strings and 2 picks for free. This was just for my trouble, they felt bad about my inconvenience.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have only had this for a month but so far no problems except for the strap button/input jack.

I have gotten back into playing after a layoff of nearly 30 years. I sold my 1962 Gibson Melody Maker when I was in college to pay expenses. This guitar seems perfect for me at this time, the action is great (less pain) and the price is right. The sound is real nice and the finish is beautiful. I would replace it if lost! It is really a decent guitar for the price.

I placed a preorder for a ZAD50CE in January and received it in February as expected. I am an absolute beginner at 42 yrs old. I had only played guitar for one month on a Hohner HW200 when I came across Mr. Dennis Zager's website for the EZplay guitars. After viewing the well made website, I decided to purchase. I received the guitar in its case as I ordered in perfect condition. Two days previous to receiving the guitar, I decided to run a test. I recorded myself playing the Hohner I owned and would see if right out of the box whether I played the few chords I already knew with the Zad50ce any easier or smoother. Well, let me tell you, I definitely played the Zager with much more ease. Because I recorded it using my computer in a wave type format, I was able to see how much quicker I was able to switch chords in comparision to the Hohner. I was extremely impressed. The tones and overall finish of the guitar is beautiful. For the first couple of days, I had to retune the guitar each time before playing, but after that the tuning had seemed to just settle in perfectly. So, I attributed this to the difference in weather locations and string stretch. After viewing the tuning video and various others Mr. Zager provided on his website, I decided to purchase the online lessons, and so far I am extremely happy with his method and my progress. To date, I have been playing the Zad50ce for one month, and I can almost play the whole first song arrangement smoothly. I only have 3 more measures to complete. The lessons are extremely informative and I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to learn quickly and easily to purchase them. One other reason for my purchase of the lessons was that I had emailed Dennis Zager, Jr. about information such as humidity etc. and received replies from him within hours. If they could make the time to answer my questions in this time frame for small issures then I felt confident in their service. Well, last night, I changed the strings which were provided for the first time following Dennis Sr.' videos and I was able to do it properly and the guitar tuned up almost effortlessly. I played for about an hour and put it in its case for the evening. Upon picking it up the next day and the one after that, the guitar didn't need retuning at all. So I truly believe in Dennis' science and the tuning utopia he strives for all to enjoy. I trully want to thank Dennis Sr and Jr. for all your assistance and giving me the ability to play longer, easier and with great tones. You have really made a guitar that is beautiful in every aspect and I will recommend your product to everyone.

Sound : 10
The sound of this guitar was absolutely amazing, a crisp, clear, vibrant sound that could not possibly be priced. My Zager has a very rich, full AND bright sound! The guitar is acoustic/electric, but held every note of an acoustic, but played like an electric due to the EZ play system, also, it sounded like an electric if you wish to distort it when you plug it into the amp. There are no likes or dislikes, i LOVE this guitar, it is absolutely amazing and plays better than any $2,000 Martin on the market.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action and setup of this guitar was flawless from the factory, I was absolutely amazed, it was still in tune when it came out of my box! The pickups were put in the most comfortable and most stylish fashion, they were adjusted perfect. The bridge was phenomenal, the strings were so low they looked as if they would touch the fret board, but it played beautifully without a single buzz or contact with the bridge, holding the barchords is like cutting butter! The guitar was absolutely flawless! And better than I had imagined it could be.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar would withstand live playing at any level, it is made out of the finest material put into guitars, and has a solid weight component so you can feel how well and sturdy the guitar is built. The gloss finish is beautiful, and will last a lifetime. I am extremely comfortable in the reliability of my Zager guitar. I would absolutely use this guitar on a gig without a backup guitar, unless it was another Zager!

Customer Support : 10
The customer service was absolutely unbelievable! I have never dealt with better service in my life, plus I didn't talk to a representative, I talked to an OWNER who ended up saving me $135.00, by telling me it would be a better choice to get their Zager, than their Martin, and he was right on the money! Awesome customer service to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
I played this Zager against, my fathers mint condition Vantage guitar, which couldn't hold a candle to my Zager, I also let my brother play it, who has played some of the most expensive Martins and 12 string guitars on the market, and he couldn't believe the sound, and noted that it played better than almost any guitar he had ever picked up, and that there could be no price put onto the sound of my Zager. If my guitar was stolen, I would buy another Zager immediately, it will be the only guitar I play from now on. I love every aspect of my Zager, the beautiful look, and the enormous and beautiful sound that it produces. This guitar had more than what I need and I cannot think of one more thing that could make it better.

It has a lifetime warranty and 60 day 100% money back gurantee! I was extremely skeptic at first, but after I called and dealt with them personally, I was very at ease, when my guitar arrived I was astonished at the deal I recieved.

Thanks Denny! you guys are amazing!

Rich bright sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect set-up (action is excellent, very easy, better than any I have played. Zager EZ Play.
Fit & finish was excellent. I bought at a discount for minor rub marks on top. Some roughness on a couple of frets but smoothed out nicely with a little extra bending of 1st string.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Cant judge reliability/durability in one week but appears to be every bit the quality of any major brand, if not better.

Customer Support : 10
Zager's are the most customer oriented I've ever seen.
Very helpful, friendly, responsive. Any question gets a direct and quick response.
Hasn't needed any repair.
Life time warranty. They believe a high quality instrument should last a lifetime.
No risk guarantee. 100% satisfaction or all your money back including shipping.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 2 years. Fender Mexican Stratocaster and a Martin DX-1 Acoustic Dreadnought.
I didn't ask a lot of questions. I figured the product would speak for itself and it does. Plus there are all kinds of questions and answers on the Zager website.
If it were stolen or damaged I would buy another one.
I love everything about the guitar, action, sound, playability, fit & finish, looks. Favorite feature is ease of play and sound.
Compared it to mostly Martins $500. - $3000. it compares very favorably, plays easier than all.
I chose this one because of quality for the money, while not giving up anything.
I can't think of anything else it should have.
I'm not an expert on guitar sound & quality but I would challenge you to find a better guitar for the money. I've not seen it. I considered this guitar for about a year. In any other brand you would pay more just for the materials used; not even considering the quality, fit & finish, tone & playability and personal customer service. In my opinion this is a high quality instrument at a very reasonable price. Anyone looking for high quality and good value would do themselves and injustice not to at least try it.

9.5 actually - I just watched the Olympics. No perfect scores allowed. Really, this is a very well appointed instrument with Grover tuners, the electronics work great and everthing needed is right where it needs to be. So many other manufacturers place the electronics towards the neck where they can't accessed when playing. The Zager is well thought out and expertly installed

Sound : 10
Before selecting this guitar I tried every major brand including Martin, Takamine, Taylor, Alvaraz and Larivee. This guitar sounds every bit as good as the Taylor 414 for less than a third of the price. Playing straight in the board it sounds beautiful. Alot of control with the EQ. I have a Genz Benz El Diablo that is set for my Anderson Cobra. The Zager is absolutely stunning through this amp, even though I have the clean channel set slightly dirty. The EQ and presence controls allow me to move from a browner blues tone to a bright big country jumbo and to the sweet little dreadnought it is.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
To heck with the Olympics! This is like an old Marshall amp, turn it up to an 11! I have owned and played 100's of guitars over the last 30 years and this one plays like a dream! It is fast and true accross the entire neck. Intonation is perfect. Really. I am not kidding. Perfect. Not a sour note anywhere. Really. I am not exagerating. Perfect!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Ask me in 20 years because I am sure I will still be playing this guitar

Customer Support : 10
This really again should be an 11. Tell me any other company where you can communicate directly with the man who does the work. Responses within minutes, not hours, not days. Lifetime Warranty. What more can I say?

Overall Rating : 10
I think I've said it all above. What equipment have I owned? Just out of the list a 1953 Tele, 67 Strat, Les Pauls including a Black Beauty, 3 Ovations including the USA Custom Elite that the Zager replaced, Martins, Alvarez, just to name a few. This is really a sweet guitar. In my opinion if you want value for your money (and as a professional musician on a limited budget that is really, really important) this is THE accoustic electric dreadnought to own. The word is going get out on these at some point and when it does their value is going to increase. I'm not selling mine though. You will have to find a way to get your own.

The Guitar is of very high quality materials fit and finish are top notch. Sealed Grover tuners stays in tune real good. ours is dreadnought cutaway with the flame top design.

Sound : 10
The sound is awsome it will be used for home and some gigs, style of music alternative, rock, christian. I own a Alvereze and a Yamaha the sound of the ZAD 50CE blows them away. I have not personally played some of the more expensive guitars out there but I was
looking for a martin because of there reputation and found this. After reading many reviews we decided to give it a chance. My sons friend said it sounds like his dads Taylor.
The Sound is great!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It arrived ready to go as advertised it is very easy to play.
Fit and finish top notch.

I have been playing off and on for over 20 years my son now plays and is better
than me and has a band, if it were stolen I would hunt down the person with wild dogs
and demand it back. I am very happy with this guitar and would whole heartedly
recommend them to anyone looking for a quality looking and sounding instrument
without breaking the bank. I have never been one to concerned about Brand names
although some brands have earned the reputation that at some point allows them to charge more for the product. Then there is the "status" part of having a brand name guitar
which some people will pay more for. But for me I will use whatever product does what it
says it does and is a very good value. The EZ-Play Zager ZAD-50CE does that for me.

Mine has Gold Grover tuning gears, is black finish (beautiful)has been personably set up by Denny Zager. The guitar came in the mail by UPS half way across the country and was still in tune!Very low string hight with no string buzz. The finish is flawless.

Solid spruce top, on board tuner and pick up. Rosewood fretboard and bridge, Grover tuners. I have no idea where it was made but it feels Japanese or Korean.
I have had this guitar for over a year now and this is my updated review.
I think most guitars get a strong rating when reviewed right after buying the guitar. So, if you would like, disregard my original review and go with this one.
I have been playing for 25 years and have had numerous guitars. High end and low end. This Zager is still among my favorites

Sound : 9
Jazz and acoustic rock. This axe just sounds nice and clean. It even sounds better now than a year ago which says the spruce is good quality.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
No contest. Every guitar I have owned needed to be re-set up every year or so. Even some high end Fender's and Washburn's. This set up is solid and true

It is a very light guitar which at first concerned me. But after one year and numerous gigs, I have come to appreciate its lightweight. Electronics can be tricky at times, but no problems

This guitar is a full sized acoustic/electric dreadnaught with onboard electrionics and tuner. It has a spruce top and mahogany sides. It has sealed grover tuning gears.

Sound : 9
This is a great sounding guitar. I have had it over two months now and my enthusiasm for this guitar continues to grow. To be honest, I have no owned real expensive acoustic guitars. One was a no name brand and the other was an ovation applause. The zager runs circles around the applause in sound, playability and action. The sound was even better than I had hoped for when I purchased the guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action and playability of this instrument is excellent. This may be the guitars biggest selling point-it is quite easy to play.
For the last couple of years, I have been using my Gibson Les Paul as my acoustic guitar and this guitar is actually better on fingering chords-easier to avoid dead notes. Also, I can play just as fast on single notes and fingerpicking on the upper frets. Only on frets 9 and above is the Les Paul easier to play single notes.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
It appears to be very well made but at this point I can't really commnet.

Customer Support : 10
Customer support is extremely prompt and solid. Emails were answered sometimes within minutes. They were helpful, and polite.

This guitar is well-worth the $445.00 I payed for it and would certainly purchase another it again. (I received a $50 for buying a guitar with cosmetic defects, which were undetectable by me). The only compliant that I have is that size of the guitar took a while to get used to. I didn't realize how wide a dreadnaught was. I am fine with the size now; it just took my body a while to get used to it.(My other guitars were smaller). Certainly, the size of a dreadnaught is a problem per se, but it might be wise for the company to emphasize a little stronger on their site about issues some people may have with the size of a full dreadnaught. I
see now that they have added an 'OM' sized guitar. Other than that my experience with Zager and the guitar I purchased has been great.
This guitar is well-worth the $445.00 I payed for it and would certainly purchase another it again if it were lost or stolen. (The regular price is $495.I received a $50 for buying a guitar with cosmetic defects, which were undetectable by me).

Features : 10
My Zager guitar was made in 2005 in the United States by the smae folks that make Martin guitars. It has 20 frets with a solid Spruce top. The controls are Volume, Tuner, and a 4 band equalizer built in a compact electronics package made by Clearwave (model 10). A transducer was installed by a professional luthier to bring out the extended bass response and rich ambience of the guitar's wood. The dreadnought body and neck woods are Mahogany, with a Gloss finish and abalone Inlays. The Rosewood Bridge and Fret-board with sealed Grover tuning gears, along with a handmade Nut and Saddle shows an attention to detail equal to or exceeding those guitars which sell for thousands of Dollars. I received a hard case with a built in Humidity sensor, Security Locks, and Neck wrench, along with an additional set of strings. Since the Guitar was personally customized by Denny Zager, using his exclusive EZ-Play? modification process which involves:
Lowering the strings closer to the fret board so you no longer have to press hard to form a chord.
Widening the stance of the strings so there is more space for your fingers, while keeping the neck shallow so its easy for small hands.
Modifying the saddle, bridge, neck and nut in harmony to amplify the tone and resonance.
The result is a guitar that is 50% easier to play with a sound that rivals guitars costing 5 times the price. Each guitar that was customized comes with Denny's Signature on the back and a certificate of Authenticity.

Sound : 10
My music style is mostly Folk music, picked, not strummed. The sound is rich and full acoustically, and when run through my Peavey Vegas 400 Amp the sound is bright and crisp. With the built in equalizer I can shape the sound to fit what ever music style I choose to play. With the built in Tuner, I don't ever have to look around for my tuner and plug it in to check whether or not I am in tune, I simply turn it on and pluck each string and make sure it is precisely on 440. There is not a single thing about this guitar that I dislike. I love everything about it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
With the EZ-Play action, this guitar came right out of the box ready for action. Denny Zager made all of the adjustments and set-up to optimize the sound and action on this guitar. Denny's attention to detail covered the entire guitar, He personally chooses each guitar that receives his modification to ensure that there are NO flaws anywhere on this guitar. He custom fits the nut and saddle, makes sure the frets are all aligned and uniform so that he can lower the strings making it so much easier to form chords. I would never want to play any other guitar. Denny is one of the finest Luthiers in the business today. He would not put his signature on the guitar if it was less than exceptional - Would you ?? I certainly wouldn't.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar was built from the highest quality materials and with the best workmanship. It is built to withstand the rigors of everyday serious playing. You can't get better hardware anywhere for a guitar in my opinion. The guitar comes with only one Strap button - on the bottom. I could have another one installed by a luthier if I wished, but I would rather use the tiny strap that encircles the neck just above the nut instead of having a hole drilled. I would not waste my time carrying a backup guitar, it is that reliable.

Customer Support : 10
This guitar not only comes with a lifetime warranty, They paid the shipping round trip the only time I ever needed service. Denny Jr. goes the extra mile - or two if needed to ensure that you are completely satisfied with every little detail. If you don't think it is right, they make it right, no questions asked. The service time in my case was fast. The guitar was ready to ship back to me the next day after they received it. Denny Jr. is usually available on-line, so you can chat with him real-time, or send him an email and he responds usually within an hour or two. Nowhere else have I experienced this level of customer service. They are second to NONE.

Overall Rating : 10
My music career has spanned almost 40 years. I started with an Accordian, then a Viola, Organ, & Guitar - I currently own two 6 string (Zager and a LoneStar Fender), two lap steels, and a Pedal Steel (MCI D10 Arlington)guitars. I also have a set of Roland electronic drums, and enough electronics to start my own store if I was willing to part with any (which I'm not).
If I had to do it all over again, I would buy another Zager, which I am planning on after the first of the year. I have always heard that electric guitars were the easyist to play because you needed less finger pressure to form the chords. However, one of my dearest friends, who only plays an electric guitar, tried mine and told me that it was even easier than her Fender Strat to play. I tried a $3000 Martin the other day and although it had a great voice and action, it wasn't as easy to play as my Zager, and my Zager's voice was just as rich in comparison. I am totally satisfied with my guitar, and as far as I am concerned, no-one has better customer service, or a better product than Denny Zager.

Grover enclosed tuning gears
Solid spruce top... Not Laminated
Onboard electric tuner
Mahogany back and sides
Hand carved Custom Nut & Saddle
Abalone Rosette
The finish is excellent and it has been modified by Mr. Zagers 'String Science' that truely does make it easier to play for long periods. I find Nothing Wrong with this guitar!

Sound : 9
My ZAD 50CE has great sound, bright, full and rich. It sounds great without an amp. I think the sound is this guitars finest quality. It sounds almost as good as my dads pre-war Martin did when I was a kid.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
As I have said, the finish is excellent, and I haven't seen any flaws. However, it isn't perfect like a $3000 guitar with real pearl
inlay and gold tuning gears......
But I wanted something I could play and carry around, not a museum piece that would require a armed guard or bank vault. Mr. Zagers 'String Science' is a great set-up. My guitar was almost in perfect tune when I recieved it after it traveling half way across the United States and being bumped around on a UPS truck. The string action is smooth and responsive.

Reliability/Durability : 9
My ZAD50 CE is a guitar that will last. It is of very good quality, and good materials. Every part of this guitar is solid. It's a lifetime guitar and friend.

Customer Support : 9
I haven't had to have any warranty work done so I can't attest to how good it would be. It does have a lifetime warranty, and I can't think of any other guitar that offers this.
Also, if you try the guitar and don't like it, you can return it for your full purchase price back 'plus shiping'. So, I knew I couldn't loose by trying it..... and I'm very glad I did. Also, Denny Zager Jr. has been very helpfull and friendly with any questions or support that I have requested.

I played many years ago on my dads pre-war Martin when I was just a kid learning, then when I got on my own, I went through many cheap acoustics & electrics.... that were almost impossible to play or learn on. This Zager is like a friend, If something happened to it, I'd have to buy another one. The only reason I don't give it a 10 in any category is because.... Nothing Is Perfect! I'm 57 years old and have had an avid interest in music since I was 12 when as I said I would pick on my dads Pre-war Martin. I highly recommend the Zager guitar to anyone!

I was shopping for a Martin and tried out several before deciding to take a chance and order a ZAGAR. They have a money back guarntee, so what did I have to lose? Well that was several months ago and I still have the ZAGER. The sound? Sounds like a Martin. My wife who plays piano is also very impressed...she always comments about the beautiful sound.

The action is phenominal. I play lead and finger style up and down the neck and prefer the sound of an acustic guitar. The ZAD-50CE was made for me.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I do not play at gigs anymore, but I certainly would be playing this guitar if I were.

I had to send in my ZAGER because of a string buzz at about the 12th fret after playing it for a couple of months. I mailed it in on a Monday and received on Tuesday the following week. No more buzzing and a new set of strings included.

I have started playing guitar in high school about 40 years ago. Over the years I have played Fender electric and Gibson accustics. This is an electric accustic, but I have never plugged it in so I cannot comment on its performace through an amp. I was looking for an accustic with a cut away so I could play up the neck. The ZAD-50CE is the guitar I tried, continue to play, and would choose it again.

Made in 2005, solid Spruce top with on board electronic tuner and equalizer. This guitar is top notch. Every time I play this box it sounds better and better. The Zager guitar looks and plays like a $3,000 guitar - what a value! I have been playing for over 25 years and owned 5 guitars including a Martin this is the one I like the best.

Sound : 9
The guitar has a rich sound that seems to work well with most styles of play like country, blues, folk and contemporary.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is fast and the strings were adjusted to play a bit easier.
It has fantastic quality for the $500 price and all of the pieces are 1st class no skimping in parts or construction.

Great guitar for gigs and seems to sound better the more you play it!
This is a very dependable guitar that will be around for a long time.
Solid construction. Everyone in my family really likes the feel and sound generated whether it is high or low on the fret it delivers!

Made in 2005 in Indonesia. Solid spruce top w/mahogany sides & back. High gloss finish with sunburst top. Abalone inlay rosette and tortoise shell pick guard. The fretboard and bridge are made of rosewood. Comes with the Zager EZ-Play modifications, extra set of Martin strings and a couple of picks. I bought a Zager custom hard case at the same time.

This guitar exceeded my expectations for features. No other guitar I was shopping for could match it for the price.

I'm a beginner, so I'm not going to BS you telling you it's the best sounding guitar I've ever played because it wouldn't matter. To my untrained ear it sounds richer and has more volume than my instructor's guitar. I asked him for his unvarnished opinion, I really wanted to know if this thing was as good as advertised - He thinks it's a great sounding/playing guitar.

So far I've used it to learn/play some Jimmy Buffett tunes and some Contemporary Christian songs. I'm extremely pleased with how it sounds.

The guitar came pretty well tuned - only needed some minor adjustments. This was a surprise to me because it was shipped from Nebraska to Alaska when we were in the middle of a severe cold snap - I figured it would have been way off.

One of my other hobbies is woodworking and I know how tough it can be to get a great finish. I was very concern, having purchased the guitar unseen, that it would have some horrendous blemish or shoddy construction, so I examined it very carefully when it arrived. I'm very pleased with how it was built. All the joints are tight, the finish is flawless and absolutely beautiful.

After playing 30-45 minutes each day on this guitar for over a month, I have to say that the guitar holds its tune very well. I adjust it about once a week, maybe more if I'm really playing a longer than usual.

I was expecting really sore fingers & cramps based on everything else I'd read about other guitars. Well my fingers did get sore after about an hour of playing initially, but now I play just about as long as I care without pain, or cramps. I've got fairly small hands and was very worried about being able to reach all the chords, but have found that it's possible to hit them all with this guitar.

I don't really have the experience with guitars to say a whole lot here. So far it's held up really well and appears very solid- no complaints.

I cannot say enough good things about how friendly and courteous these guys are. I live on an island off the coast of Alaska - and even though the official policy is not to sell to AK due to shipping logistics & support issues - these guys went out of their way to make it happen. Sure, I paid a little more to get it here than if I lived in the lower 48, but that's true for everything else up here as well. They answered all my questions and even got me a great discount on the case.

I've only been playing now for two months and don't have a lot of gear to talk about. I am very pleased with this purchase. I was incredibly worried about ordering something like this online - worried that it was one of those deals that were, "too good to be true." I'm glad I did it - I don't think I'd be a whole lot happier with a more expensive guitar. If I lost this in an earthquake/tsunami I'd definitely buy another.

My favorite feature is the EZ Play mods...they allow me to practice longer each day so I can get better quicker.
