I won't repeat the specs. The midrange and high range attenuators work smoothly to take a little of the "sheen" of the sound away. This is a great sounding cab that other reviews have characterized as being much too power hungry and not loud enough for hard rock styles, but it just has an unusually high power requirement that must be filled for it to play loud. I use a Stewart World 2.1 , about 1700 watts when bridged mono and it plays as loud as I can stand it without anywhere near clipping the amp. When cranked up, I cut lows around 40 Hz with a Rane PE 17 parametric EQ, because the booming lows just get overwhelming...and I'm a four string player. With all things considered, my bass rig behaves very much like a more typical cab like an Ampeg or an SWR 4x10 with about 1000 watts driving it. The cabinet is so affordable that I took the $ I saved and put it toward a more powerful amp. Stewart isn't the only option....QSC PLX2402, Crest CA9, Mackie...also excellent amps for a Low B4.

My only criticism is of the previously discussed automobile tail light fuse that is found inside of the cab. I think it's a great idea to use a cheap and readily available bulb for a fuse, but where this bulb/fuse lives is inside of the cab, and that isn't too good. I have never blown a bulb nor have I seen it light up when popping a loud note, but when they do go out as they do once in a while it sure is a 'Rube Goldberg' operation to change the bulb. Removing the grill and the upper right woofer is a total fucking pain in the ass even with a cordless drill to assist. The socket for the bulb should be located to be accessable from outside the cab as part of the recessed panel that houses the attenuator controls and the inputs. But even with this flaw, this is one of the best 4x10 bass cabinets I have heard.

Sound Quality : 10

That light bulb fuse is the Sword of Damocles. But this is my only cab and so far so good.

Andy Lewis is a friendly guy who was very helpful when I needed to replace a woofer (had my amp up too loud when I popped a low note), and I had purchased my B4 second hand and had no warantee. He promptly ships a replacement and refunds a core charge when you return the fried speaker....$50 overall. Since blowing the woofer, I now use a peak limiter in my signal chain, and have not destroyed another.

Four 10's, a midrange, and a tweeter. There is a speakon, 1/4", and binding post on the back. There are two controlls on the back for the midrange and tweeter. Very strong metal grill. Very light cabinet. Strong all around.

Sound Quality : 7
It isn't loud. If you play rock skip it. I play rock. I like it in good sounding rooms but 9 times out of 10 I'm not in one. If you play jazz this is your cabinet. Very accurate. I used to play a lot of jazz so I really appreciate it. It takes a lot of power. Clean power. The lows are great. You will love the lows. I am thinking of buying the the w series without the highs and mids so I can biamp it with another cab.

Reliability : 8
Never had any problems and I owned it for 4 months.

Duh! The guy is great!

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing in 7 years. I gig all of the time and tour around the country. If it were stolen I would not replace it unless I started playing jazz again. If it were more efficint I would like it a lot more.

Well, it's hard to say. I purchased the Carvin DCM 1000 power amp on Acme owner Andy Lewis' recommendation. When I hooked the amp and my Tech21 RBI preamp to the Acme, I wasn't at all blown away as I was expecting. I bridged the amp for all 1000 watts, but I guess the cab wants more wattage. I blew out the bulb immediatley. It sounded like I was putting out half the wattage. I had to remove the grill, top left woofer, and replace the bulb. I had a gig in 3 hours 40 miles from home. Got it working again sound was the same. Any time I snapped the G string, I was lighting up the bulb. Went to the gig and you guessed it, 10 minutes before we start, I'm replacing the bulb AGAIN. Babied it the rest of the night. Sent it back the NEXT morning. I was leaving for vacation so I wanted it back before the 14 day trial period was up. Sound was pretty good when it worked but lacked volume.

I've been playing for 20 years and have never been so disappointed in gear I've purchased. I must say it is not dependable based on my experience.

Customer Support : 2
Andy Lewis was helpful when I first contacted him but once I returned the cab., he totally changed. No longer friendly and saying I "dissed" him. Charged me $15 for not returning the manual and around $60 for scratched corner protectors. I was just happy to put the unpleasant experience behind me.

I will never buy something sight unseen again. The craftmanship was very good and it may work for some, but it turned out to be a mistake for me. Not to mention I paid to ship it back too. I wouldn't recommend buying Acme. I'm going to do what I should have in the first place and get an Ampeg!

This cab is spanking new. I play in an extrememy heavy band, but I need to be able to play melodies too. I don't get lost in the mix any more.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm currently using a Peavey Kilobass through it. I've heard that some people need more power for these cabs, but I'm only running one side of this amp. I haven't had a problem yet. This is what I've always wanted a bass cabinet to sound like and they never have. It slams like a fifteen with the response of 10's. We tune to "C" and this cab loves it! The highs sing and the lows thump.

Reliability : 9
This thing is built like a tank. I've had cabs that cost a lot more that didn't look this well built. From what I understand, Andy is super cool if something breaks.

Customer Support : 9
They have a two year warranty. I don't think I'll be using that anytime soon.

Overall Rating : 10
If it were ever stolen, I'd hunt the bastard down and make them die slow. I'd get another one in a flash. I've owned Peavey, Sunn, Ampeg, SWR, Hartke, and some others I really don't care about. This cab destroys them all... If you're thinking of buying one of these cabs, the two week return policy should clear up any doubt that you might have. Buy ONE NOW!!!!

-4 10 inch Eminence woofers, voice coils specially wound to "go low".

Metal grille is rubber damped on all mounting points to eliminate vibration noise. All corners have hard plastic protection. Good handles.

My opinion of the features of this speaker cabinet is "perfect".

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this cabinet in my 5 string bass rig.
I play a G&L 2500 through BASS POD PRO, into a Mackie 1400i (bridged mono for better than 1000 watts), into the Acme Low B4.
Any imaginable bass tone is possible. The B4 is an extremely smooth, uncoloured cabinet. It's designed for bass guitar, but works flawlessly in PA or full-range music reproduction system.
Since the cabinet is so neutral (meaning it adds no coloration of its own), it is a natural choice for Line 6 users. It is loud and powerful, and will compete with bass rigs twice its size. There is no speaker on the market with this much "slam"- the cabinet is tuned low, yet the speakers are small (10 inches), so cone movement (and the subsequent amount of moving air) are completely under control.

Reliability : 10
I gig regularly with this cab and no backup. It's simply unnecessary to own anything else. "Short of the outbreak of WW3" (thanks Gene Hackman), this cab will never break down. Solid as a rock.

It's covered for 2 years for the normal things that occassionally go wrong with all things man-made.

This category is simple.
To own an Acme product, such as the B4, you order direct from Acme Sound Ltd.'s owner, Andy Lewis. All of my questions (email, phone, or fax) have been answered by Andy, and he seems to always have time to chat when I call for technical questions.
To this end, the customer support is less like dealing with a company, and more like dealing with a friend of yours that you bought a product from.

Unquestionably the best support available. I only wish I could select "11" for my rating number.

Overall Rating : 10
From a holistic point of view, buying, owning, playing, and listening to this cabinet has been one of the best experiences of my musical career. I've been playing about 10 years, and have owned many different items, used and new. Under no circumstances has there ever been a time when I've been happier with a product and its parent company.

When shopping for my main bass cabinet, I played every Ampeg, Trace, SWR, Hartke, and vintage cab available. None of them came close, and they were all more expensive. The Acme solution seemed too good to be true at first, but after a couple of gigs, it is, indeed, the solution.

Dealing with the little guy is always the best, in my opinion. Not only would I buy another Acme product if mine were stolen, I will probably outfit my entire home stereo with the Low B2.
