not much in the way of bells and whistles but enough to please the user and the listener, has an input for active and passive basses, capabble of using two speakers, balanced output plugging into the sound board.

Sound Quality : 9
i use this amp with any of my basses (i have a few), an acme speaker and sometimes with a hartke 2x10 added for bigger venues and it does the job. very clean and portable.

Reliability : 9
i have had this amp since oct 2001 and used it without any backup for gigs big and small. late last year it developed a slight distortion so i wrote acoustic image.

Customer Support : 10
this is where i want to express what i feel. like i said, i wrote acoustic image and they wrote back telling me to send back the amp. i sent the amp back and after a week i got a package from them with a brand new amp!! after 6 years, they replaced the amp NOT charging me a penny. HATS OFF ACOUSTIC IMAGE, this thank you message long overdue. these are good people!

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing for a long while, (more than 20 years) and own a lot of other gear. if this amp were stolen, the guy who steals it better not let me know who he is! there are a lot of new products in the market that are competetive with this amp but i think i would buy another one like it or it's newer version.

I received the amp brand new back in January 2004 so I've had 6 months to get to know. If you need a simple to operate amp, then this is it. I play all type of music from upright swing to solid body slam'n funk and this amp does it all. It's versital in simplicity and pure power, but if your a tweaker, look else where. This is the single channel version without reverb and other models offer multi channel etc. It does have the effects loop and filter notch section as well as a bite knob specfically for acoustic, but nothing else. The three band eq can handle any situation and the gain / volume knobs are smooth to dial in just the right amount of crunch and sass. I don't see myslf useing the notch filter or bite knob, but the eq on this amp is plenty. The 350W into 4ohms is just killer. I use it with just a Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 4X10 (350W into 8ohms is about 260W or so) and that's enough for any room I'll ever play.....so power YES ! The one thing that surprises me is the weight. I'm used to SVT's like everyone else, and at 5.3 lbs, it's a no brainer.

Sound Quality : 10
Hmmmm.....Well, I've tried every bass I have through it so it sounds great with all of 'em. J's and P's, Stingrays, custom 36" 5 strings, off the rack beaters, fretless, uprights.....it handles them all and brings each basses voice up front. I always keep the eq the same for all the basses and let the basses do the work. This is one of those "set it and forget it" amps. I've used it with many different types of gigs. Heavy 'Infectious Grooves' styles and softer coffee house John Mayer grooves.....it's a great amp for all purposes. If you have a boutique bass, this amp delivers. It's suttle where you want it and a bruiser when need it. Although I haven't tried it at the full 350W because I'll need another cab to get to 4ohms, with the Mesa 4X10, it doesn't distort or clip out. I don't like distortion and I need a clean pure bass tone. This amp is a pure as the driven snow.

Reliability : 9
Built like a tank. I baby it because it's new and I want to keep it until I die, but I can say with all honesty, that this will out live cockroaches ! I have never needed a back up amp. I've been an Ampeg guy for 22 years and you know how they work. This Clarus is the same reliabilty as an SVT without the tonage. The tone has been consistant for the past 6 months and I have naver I can not conceive in the next 5 years (which is there warrenty) that this amp will ever break down.....I;m that certain of it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with them and probably never will. Go th theri website for all the info. However, I have dealt with Bob Gollihur who is a dealer. Greay guy who had great things to say about the amp before I bought it. All of it was true.

Overall Rating : 10
In the past 22 years, nothing comes close to what I need from an amp than the Acoustic Image Clarus II. It's perfect in every way for my tast, style and gig schedule. From the feather weight, to the brutal power this this can put-out, it's all I'll ever need. I have actually turned some devote players of Eden, Mesa, Ampeg and even Glockenlang to go with this little guy. You can try to check it out at some dealers, but you'll have to take a leap of faith if you can't. Bob Gollihur offers free shipping and money back if not satisfied. Pound for pound, and we're talking just 5 pounds, it's worth every penny.
