Bought used, not sure how old it is. Very simple contols, for someone used to a lot of knobs a la Eden it might look too simple. Its simplicity is a plus, it won't take you hours to find a great sound. It sounds great with just about any knob at any position (you'll want to have volumes above 0!). Rather than having to mess with a parametric settings to find the right frequency to adjust on the EQ, the EQ knobs are centered at just the right frequency. The folks who built this amp knew what they were doing! Power comes from 4 6550 tubes, warm but much cleaner and more articulate than vintage type tube amps. Bias adjust knobs on the back, simple instructions in the manual for user rebiasing can save you a bundle in tech fees in the long run.

Sound Quality : 10
This is as hi-fi as a tube amp can get, but still powerful and suited to any kind of music. It's not the single loudest amp ever made, but it can go plenty loud. Realize that its 200 tube watts can compare to 400 solid state watts in perceived volume.

Reliability : 10
Built like the precision instrument it is, very professional job but very rugged also. Think of a Grand Prix race car built with the reliability of a (insert name of car that never breaks down here).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use it. I have heard people complain that the warrantee was not transferrable, so if you bought used you were out of luck. Realize however, that it is a 10 YEAR warrantee for the original owner. I can't think of any other company with so long a warrantee. These are built to last, so I wouldn't be too concerned. Many other amps have shorter, non transferable warrantees.

Overall Rating : 10
These things now list new for $3700, sell on Musicians Friend for $3000. That's a lot of clams. You can still find them used for considerably less if you can forgo the warrantee coverage, and they are great amps.

Very simple design. Features of note: XLR DI on front. Series/parallel FX loop with gain adjustment for both in and out. The preamp and DI work when in standby for direct recording without the power amp. It also has DC tube current measurement points on the back, so you can bias it with a multimeter without having to open the amp.
It lacks the bells and whistles of alot of bass amps out there, but what you get is of the highest quality. 200 watts is ample power. It's small and relitively light for a well built tube amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I use various EMG equipped fretted and fretless bases, as well as an Alembic Baratone guitar. I go through a Carl Martin compressor before hitting the amp, and have a T.C. Electronic Chorus/Flanger in the effect loop. My cab is an Eden 2x10XLT. I have to admit that this is THE greatest bass rig I've ever heard. From funky string popping to rock fingering to frettless, I am continually amazed at the tone.
As far as the amp itself, it has alot of overtones. It's possible to get some compression from the preamp when set to higher gain settings. The EQ is voiced perfectly, I find myself playing it relatively flat, but the bass eq remains tight and focussed when pushed, the mid control is voiced perfectly to get a good scoop for slap style, while not sucking all the meat out of your sound, and the treble control and high switch can add a wonderfull shimmer, but remains pleasing to the ear, unlike any other amp's treble control which always made the fret noise sound unnatural.

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it a short time, and it is studio only. It is built like a brick though. The external bias points and seperate cover for the tubes make changing them a no-brainer. Anyone with a multimeter and an IQ over 60 could do it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. I think the warranty is 10 years. All service is to be done by Aguilar in NYC.

Overall Rating : 10
I played a few Edens, SWR's and Ampegs before buying this amp. Probably played about 15 amps in the store, all through an Eden 410XLT and this was hands down the thickest, and most harmonic amp, and it has a KICKIN' tight low end to it.
This is the last bass amp I'll ever buy, and would absolutely replace it if it were stolen. My only complaint is I wish the fan was quieter, or was thermostatically controlled.

I bought this new. Pretty straight-forward as far as features go, easy to get excellent tone without much dialing in. XLR out on the front panel is very handy, low boost switch & treble switch are nice..but not needed. Power is plentiful for a 4x10 & a 15 (200 watts from 4 Svetlana 6550's) Dunno what else to say, this amp kicks out the fat tone for the styles I play (groove rock)

Sound Quality : 10
Fat Tone, that is what this amp is all about. Playing a P bass w/ a Genz Benz XB410 ..this amp just makes the cabinet sing. Cranking the tube pre-amp gives a hefty growl as well.

Reliability : 10
Brand new...no problems yet

No dealings with Aguilar

Overall Rating : 10
Got this amp for an incredible deal (list is 1800) Just can't beat a handmade all tube amp...would buy another if the situation called for such. Missing a few luxury features but the tone makes up for the lack of gadgets..and then some.

This is an all tube bass head. Use with a fretless custom Fender and a Dean fretted bass. This thing is "TONE".

Reliability : No Opinion
Use it as a studio amp,but as it is handmade and a monster I think it should prove out to be very reliable, 10 year warranty.

Playing for 30 years by far best gear i've ever owned. Got rid of a great Egnator customized GK 400B which I loved. NO MATCH!!
