Features : 10
What we have here is a 1967 Alamo Fury 1X15" Bass amp. It uses two 7868's to power it, two 12AX7's and a 7199 as preamps/etc., and a 5U4GB as a rectifier. It pushes roughly 30 watts through it's original 1967 Jensen 15" speaker. Pretty simple setup. 3 inputs: 1 for Bass and 2 for Guitar. Volume, Bass and Treble knobs. That's it. Plug in and go for it.

Sound Quality : 9
I play both my guitar (1973 Ibanez Tele copy) and bass (80's Ibanez hair metal bass) through it. There are a couple little quirks that need addressed sometime soon (a bit of crackling when turned on, the bass knob does weird things to the amp when it's at 10), but for the most part, the amp is QUIET and smooth. There are no onboard effects, but I have a mid 60's Alamo tube reverb unit and a slew of pedals. I love the tone I get throught this with bass. It handles my distortion pedals (a vintage DOD 250 makes it sound SVT-ish) well and even sounds pretty sweet clean. The best sound ever though is when I use my guitar and turn up past 7. It gets pretty gritty. But when it's at 10, OH MY GOSH!!! I don't need a distortion pedal. The only reason I give it a 9 here is because of the small mechanical problems. If serviced, I am positive it would be a 10.

Reliability : 9
Well, it has lasted for almost 40 years now so I would say it's pretty reliable. It's a good idea, though to service your vintage tube amps to ensure that they continue to be reliable. So I will be taking this guy in for some upkeep as soon as I get the $$$ to do so. Until then and even afterwards, I would definitely gig with this without a backup. I bet it sounds AMAZING mic'ed through a PA.

Customer Support : No Opinion
HA!!! Alamo folded in the 70's. But any good, competent amp tech will have NO problem fixing this.

Overall Rating : 10
This amp is great. I have always been a fan of old tube bass amps---especially ones with a single 15" speaker. If this were lost or stolen (God forbid) I really believe I would get another one---if I could find one!!!
