NO clue as far as the year made. I'm a straight forward classic rock, blues bass player. This al tube amp is perfect for me. I won't go into all the specs etc. That was done very nicely in the first review. I just want to restate that this amp does not like active pickups or electronics. If your bass has a 9 volt battery find a way to bypass it or leave everything on neutral. I use this amp everywhere. Since there is no output other than the the speaker outs I have invested in a nice DI box for the soundman for the larger venues. Although, paired with my Schroeder cab there aren't too many places I really need the DI box. Now, how much should I deduct for the lack of a Active/Passive switch and the Direct Out? I'll take off 3 points for the lack of an Active/Passive switch. However, I won't deduct any points for the lack of a Direct Out since all of the amplifier mounted Direct Outs that I have ever used (EXCEPT the David Eden Metro) sound pretty bad to awful.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a 74 J Bass, a new Ricky, several Warwicks, a Hofner reissue with this amp and they all sound fantastic. I play classic 70-80-90's rock and blues. I don't use any pedals whatsoever. This amp is dead nuts quiet. You can get some really nice growl at about 2 o'clock. Great sound!

Reliability : 10
This amp is super reliable. In the three years that I have owned this amp it has never failed me. One time I dropped it from about 10 feet onto a concrete floor. The amp case was busted up pretty good. The only damage to the amp itself was a broken tube pin. This thing is tough.

No problems so far...no need

I've been playing bass since '69 and have used everything from the Fender Bassman, to Marshall, to Ampeg, SWR, David Eden, Hartke and this amp blows them all away, hands down, no question about it. If this amp were stolen I'd track down the scurvy dog and wring his or her neck in front of his or her mother AND the judge because I couldn't afford to buy another one. I love the sound and the reliablity. I hate the fact that one day I'll be too old and feeble to properly enjoy this amp. I want to be buried with it. Look, you are going to pay a bunch of money for this amp but it will be worth every pint of plasma you sold at the blood bank to get it.

I have no idea what year this was made. I play Clssic Rock, Blues, and Classic Country. This is a straight forward single channel amp with Vol, Bass, Mid and Treble controls on the front panel. No effects loop, no headphone jack. This ain't no toy. This is a working bass players amp. The Alessandro Basset Hound is an all-tube bass amp with a 2 x 6550-based power amp, and a 2 x 6SL7 all-octal preamp. I use this amp with a Schroeder cab and fill a 300 seat club with no D.I. (Note: The guitar player I work with does not have an "inside voice".) The Alessandro does not like active pickups or EQ's. I gave this catagory a 5 because it's not filled with features (substitute tone sucking candy).

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a '74 Fender Jazz and a '63 Reissue Hofner. This amp is totally quiet and makes a great sound. Think of the best old Ampeg you ever heard and you got it. By the way, that's the only sound you'll get.

Reliability : 10
Been using this amp for about a year now with no problems.

Been playing since '66 and have over 55 guitars and basses. This is the best bass amp I have ever played. I sold my Fender Pro 400, the David Eden Metro hasn't seen the light of day in almost 9 months, and my Ampeg "Flip Top" amp has been relegated to the practice room and my vintage Sunn and Ampeg tube amps are gathering dust. If you can afford the hefty price tag you won't be disappointed. I'm using this amp on top of a Schroeder 21012 cab but it sounded very, very good with a Hartke 410XL and several other cabs I have. The Schroeder is the best sounding, however.
