The combo amp has one (1) channel with a treble, middle, and bass controls along with a graphic equalizer which I usually leave on. I also leave the interal limiter on. It has 350 watts RMS with 4 ohms, but since the internal 15 inch speaker is 8 ohms, it pushes about 200 RMS watts. I use this combo for the smaller gigs and on the nights when it is raining and it fits inside the cab of my small truck. It always sounds great with my G&L LB100's and SB1. I use flatwound strings so I get a nice fat and full sound. The guys in the band like the sound because it sounds like what they want a bass to sound. The ports in the back of the cabinet are extremely handy. I usually set the amp about nine (9) inches from the wall so that the sound comes out of the ports, hits the wall, and spreads around the room which enables the band to hear me while we are playing, kind of like the sound coming out of the back of the guitarist's amp. I like it.

Sound Quality : 9
I never need a distorted sound, so I keep it set for a clean, full, fat sound. I usually leave the tone controls set at 12 o'clock (flat) and the graphic equalizer set in the middle. This way, I have a more even tone which fills in better. Instead of sounding muddy with the band and having no cutting power, the sound projects well and the tone is good. The amp is very clean, at least as clean as it can be with a stamped frame 15 inch speaker. I like it.

Reliability : 9
I have been using Crate and Ampeg stuff for a little oner twenty years without any (zero, zip, nil, none, not any) problems. This includes playing 5 and 6 nights a week, one nighters with a lot of traveling, and a couple of practices thrown in occassionally. They work, just like a Times, they take a licking and keep on kicking. I like it.

Customer Support : 9
I have not had any problems which would cause me to contact anyone. I have contacted St. Louis Music a couple of times and Pat was very helpful and informative. The dealer, Musictown, has been very helpful, friendly, and informative. I like the five (5) year warranty. Usually, I will use the amp for the five years, and then purchase a new one, but I will continue to use the old one until someone wants to buy it. I have not had any to die on me.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for about thirty five (35) years and have been using Crate and Ampeg amps for most of the time. I usually use a combo such as the B2-115 for the smaller stuff and a larger rig (B2R and PRO 410 [4-10" cast frame speakers]) for the other stuff. The B2R is just like the B2 combo except it is a rack mounted unit. I like it.

Features : 8
3 band EQ, as well as a graphic EQ
200W @ 8 ohms, 350W @ 4 ohms
1-15" Eminence 8 ohm speaker, rear ported

Sound Quality : 10
Currently using with a 2000 Fender Precision Bass Deluxe. With the EQ flat, it has a good well rounded tone. I usually kill off all the mids, in which case is really has a killer phat tone, with both pickups on.

Reliability : 5
Well...as I found out, since St Louis Music (SLM) bought out Ampeg, the reliability has gone downhill. First of all, the grill cloth is mounted to a cheap fiberboard bazel, which pops in and out (and easily broke). SLM did a shit wiring/soldering job inside. I had to have a local electronics tech resolder everything. He even found bad connectors at the ends of wires. The graphic EQ isn't mounted ot the daughterboard by screws (which would hold it more secure). It's held in place by 2 solder joints (which had to be re-soldered, as well as all the solder joints that hold the pots to the board). These are things that most of us normally wouldn't notice, unless we all went through the components ourselves.

They wouldn't speak to me, since I didn't have the original receipt with me. Although, the serial number alone shoulda at least told them that the amps was made within the past 5 years.

Overall Rating : 7
This amp does sound great. I just wish I wouldn't have listened to other people's reviews, but gone to a repair shop to ask them about how many repairs they get in from Ampeg. I found out a lot of good info from the tech.

I just got this amp, and have about 20 gigs under my belt with it. My band is pretty loud and I basically use the B2 for stage volume, and go DL into 2 18" cabinets. I'm interested in hanging either a 2x10 or 4x10 Ampeg cabinet into the amp to see how it influences tone and punch. I use all the features and think the amp is just fine.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender deluxe Jazz Bass, but I've been having problems with the guitar's pre amp and so I'm not getting all the sound I want. The amp isn't noisy at all, and i've tried a lot of configurations, i.e., effects pedals, remote pack, etc. but the amp stays quiet. I haven't had to crank the volume past 4 so I haven't experienced distortion.

Reliability : 10
No problem. It's a pig of an amp, I will be suprised if I ever have any dependability problems, but I'll let you know after another 100 gigs or so. I wonder if the removeable electric cord might get loose after a while. I wonder if I should get a replacement fuse just in case.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had an Ampeg before, I have no customer support experience with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I've played off and on for years, but heavily (heavy for me is around 75 gigs/year)for the last 4 years. This is my 3rd amp in the last 4, the others were a Peavey (sounded pretty good but had several visits to the shop), a Fender (looked good, sounded weak) and I like the Ampeg the best. I think I'll stay with it, especially if the extra cabinet configuration can help me be more versatile depending on the venue. I do think I'll get a different Bass this year so if any of you would like to propose advice I'll make sure you have a way to contact me as part of this review.

1999 Ampeg b-2. 1 15" speaker. 200w at 8 ohms and 350w at 4 ohms, plenty of power for most band situations. Features Volume, active/passive switch, Gain, Treble, Bass, Ultra Mid, Defeatable Limiter, 9 band graphic eq, and an effects loop. Pure solidstate. The only thing missing is the 5 position knob found on SVT's

Sound Quality : 10
I use a cheap as epi p-bass rip off. I play metal, classical, and jazz it sounds great for all of those. Gets a great slap & pop sound too. I put this thing up to full volume and got no distortion. It's got plenty of power and punch for band situations...but if you play large venues and need more power you can just go out and buy an 8 ohm 2x10 and get 350w.

Reliability : 10
The amp has not broken down since i got it. I doubt I would ever have to service it because I'm really careful and it's solidstate so I don't have to fuck around w/ tubes. I would use it w/o a backup.

Customer Support : 10
It's got a 5 year transferrable warranty. I doubt I'll need it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 2 years, practice usually 2-4 hours a day. If it were stolen I would beat the shit out of whoever took it and buy another one. I love the sound and power, it's hard to find combos that can get up to 350 watts. I compared it to an SWR workingman's 15 and one of the new fender bassman amps and this one kicked their asses. The amp is great for how much I paid for it. 15" is great not muddy.

Mine is a 1998 B2 solid state combo. The B2 is the combo version of the B2r head unit. Controls for the combo include Gain, Master, Bass, UltraMid, Treble, plus a selectable 9-band EQ. The speaker is 15 inches, the cab is very compact but weighs about 90 lbs. I think the coolest feature this amp has is its power rating. the combo alone with its single 15 inch (8 ohm) speaker is rated at 200 watts, but if you add another 8 ohm speaker cab as an extension, the power rating is bumped of to 350 watts.

Sound Quality : 9
I don't have much to complain about with this amp. It has a wide range of sounds, especially with the 9-band EQ on. I play blues and rock and this amp really is a wonderful choice for me. i love the mellow (JPJ) bass tones, and this amp achieves that perfectly. I'm playing this amp through an '85 US P-Bass.

Reliability : 10
I can't comment since i just got it, but i'm guessing its pretty reliable. its an ampeg!

Customer Support : No Opinion
never called

i've been playing guitar/bass for about 5 years or so.. i've really grown to appreciate what ampeg's amps can do. they're absolutely incredible. i love the sound of this amp, the only thing else i would want is a b-15 portaflex or the SVT-classic.. but i think those are out of the question for now!
