I give it a 7 for the effort. 38 lb, neo speakers, built in dolly, everything I was looking for. I 've had it a couple years and tried it many times, different heads and styles. I gave up. I really, really wanted to like this cab. I was looking a long time for a good sounding light weight cab. It's just not happening.

Sound quality was fair. I never really got a good tone, and once the neo's heated up it would fart out. The low end was just not what I would expect for 2 12's. And for the price it should not be that way.

It works when I plug it in but that's about it.

I've played long enough to know this is over priced for what is is.
If someone was going to steal it, I would help them load it in their car. I found much better cabs a better prices, althought they were heavier.

I brought the cab new last year. It is rated at 400watts and I brought it chiefly for its light weight and portability. It is a breeze to move around using the luggage handle and wheels, although it can be a bit drunken when moved on rough ground. Its features are good with two standard jack sockets and speakon connections and a tweater volume. The whole cab feels solid although edge protectors could be a bit more beefy.

I play classic rock and use a Gallien Kruger 200Mb as a head. I have the tweater set at the mid point which I find gives the best sound. I find the sound ideal for the sort of music I play and have used it at about 40+ gigs. At larger venues the head is DI anyway through the house PA so I have never found over powered in a band situation. Only time I have found it struggling is when I have used a looping pedal set with lots of delay, the cab sounds fine when playing right in fromt but the sound has lost deintion as it travels into the audience, here I suspect a 4x10 would cope better.

I have found it very reliable and it has never given me any trouble.

An excellent piece of kit, good sound and if you want portability you can't beat it. Fairly expensive (in the UK anyway) but I would not hesitate to recommend it. Any other bassist that has handled the cab always comment about its wonderful ight weight.

Very basic 2 X 12". Super small and only 38Lbs. I can fit it into a compact auto's trunk with no problem and it is light on my back. The horn/driver is smooth and very quiet. The rear has two speakons and two 1/4" connectors wired in parallel (NICE). The rear panel also has a control pot for the driver. I love the attached dolley. You can move it around very easily and the dolley can be removed on stage. Great! The cabinet is rated at 8 ohms. It's protected by a high quality carpet covering with plently of handles.

It's loud and the tone can be varied quite a bit from deep bass to super slap sounds and everything in between. I use several Fender active basses, both the jazz and a P. andhe sound is crystal clear yet warm too. I use the PB250 matching head. The cabinet is very quiet even with the horn cranked past midway. Now this is my first review based on using the stock cabinet with the stock speakers. I just replaced the two 12" - 8 ohm (200 watts each) 400 total, with the Eminence Delta-lites. The Delta lights have a higher power rating of 300 watts each which now give my cabinet 600 watts RMS power. Was there an improvement? YES!!! The power output is so much louder and the lower frequencies are enhanced quite a bit. The speakers cost me only $90.00 each including shipping from Avatar. Now should you go out and buy new speakers for your already great sounding Ampeg Portabass? Only if you want to play some larger gigs without having to bring additional heavey cabinets around. However, in the end the upgrade makes this already great sounding cabinet even better. The only thing I had to do in order to make the new speakers a perfect fit was to file down the back of the front cabinet screen just slightly in order to avoid hitting the edge of the speaker. This modification is only required at the top back of the screen and cannot be detected when it is re-attached to the cabinet. No one will ever know. Finally the Delta lights utilize a cast frame and are only a few ounces heavier than the original Ampeg speakers. I guess that the overall weight of the cabinet has grown from 38Lbs to around 40Lbs. That's it!

No problems as of yet. However, I do own a lot of Ampeg equipment and they do respond very well when there is a problem. They also have a large number of dealers available to service their products.

I have been playing bass for over 30 years and own too many basses and amplifiers to even mention. The Portabass series from Ampeg are great. They are super light and sound great, period. The only thing I can say that would be considered a slight negative statement is the carpet covering that is now being used by many manufacturers. The stuff sucks!!! It picks up every piece of lint, cat and dog hair, etc. Give me the good old tolex covering any day.

2004 vintage 2 x12" speaker cabinet, with tweeter. 4-ohm, 1/4" jacks and Speakon connectors. Slick little roller set up work fine, but isn't really needed because cabinet only weighs 38 pounds! It's actually lighter than my amp.

Playing Robin Freedom Bass II through Peavey Max preamp and Gemini XPM-600 Mosfet power amp (550 watts). I usually add a Peavey 115 and configure as Bi-Amp, with lows through the 115 and highs through the 212 cabinet. The Bi-Amp set up is best. It provides great clarity and definition of the highs, while delivering plenty of bottom end guts through the other channel.
The PB-212 alone has enough guts to cover small to medium clubs.

Seems good so far, except rubber on handles split almost immediately, detracting cosmetically.

Playing for 20+ years. The best thing about it is the low weight, while maintaining good sound. Ampeg gets a premium for the Portabass gear, but an extra hundred bucks is cheap, compared with hernia repair surgury!
