This thing is deeper than a SVT810he and louder than a svt18hlf. This will handle as low as you can go. 4,5,6... whatever amount of strings. One of the most powerful 4x10 cabs on the market. 13 ply birch construction.

Sound Quality : 9
I run a SVT4pro (1600w/1200w RMS) to this 1200 watt cab. Low volumes have amazing clarity. Cranked... good headroom, awe inspiring low end, plenty of mid bite, and variable tweeter for just the right amount of pop.

Reliability : 9
the only problem I had was because someone changed guitars without muting the amp. The volume was up high and it popped the tweeter. I finished the gig fine (pre-amp out to the PA was what the audience heard anyway). I was the only person to notice the difference. Good thing....

Customer Support : 10
...it was under warranty. Ampeg fixed it free of charge. 2 year warranty. Friendly staff, fast (finished 2 days after I first called them), and never seen 'em since.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I compared a lot of cabs before I bought this. I spent about 4 months comparing before deciding. This one stood out so much from all the others it's hard to put into words. It's almost like the bastard son of a SVT18 and a SVT810.

Ease of Use : 8
I just got my new cabinet a couple of days ago and after several hours of use I have to say that it is pretty easy to make sound good. This is my first cabinet with a horn tweeter, so I'm a little new to that! It's easily adjusted to taste on the back of the cabinet. Ampeg doesn't send any manual at all, I guess they figure that if you buy equipment like this, you know what they mean when they say 8 ohms on the back plate! I guess weight, handles and ease of mobility should count in the "easy of use" catagory. Ampeg carves the handles on the side right from the wood in a very cool way, you have to see it to believe it. This thing weighs 118lbs, so it's pretty darn heavy to lift around, thankfully they include a set of pop in casters!

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is very nice. This cabinet has an amazing amount of low end for a 4x10 and it's tight and not "boomy". The midrange is smooth and clean with lots of detail and the highs are not "clangy" or harsh, but can be if you set it up that way! I've never used a 4x10 with a horn so this was something new for me. To my ears and with my sound and playing, the cabinet needs just a little bit of the horn, not much, just a touch. This helps out a ton because of the awesome low end that this thing has on tap. I used it to just add a bit of detail and harmonics to the sound. I'm playing with a Carvin LB-90 four string bass, Ampeg SVP-Pro pre-amp, Alesis 3630 compressor and a Peavey Classic 120/120 tube power amp. This setup gives me a nice warm fat tone, in our band this is very useful. We play lots of material ranging from James Brown to Metalica! I have to have a sound that will cover alot of ground and depending on playing style this setup can get me there without alot of complexity.

Reliability : 9
This cabinet is very strongly built! It's made of 13 ply birch plywood, it has plastic corner protectors and it has a painted finish. The speakers are cast frame and the total power handling is 1200 watts! Our transport is very small so I can't carry a backup but I feel quite comfortable relying on this speaker cabinet. It has lightbulb horn protection too! For quality of construction and reliability I'd have to give this thing a very high score!

I've had to call Ampeg a couple of times in the past and I haven't had any problems. They are probably as good as anyone in this area.

Overall Rating : 9
We play lots of styles but mostly rock and pop in small clubs. This cabinet makes a BIG sound for it's size so for me that's good! I've been playing for about 15 years, I own all of our PA system as well as recording gear and pretty many vintage guitar and bass amps. I would buy another one of these if I lost it, sure. I don't really have a "love hate" relationship with this thing yet but I don't like the weight a whole bunch but what are you going to do? Bass cabinets that sound good are usually heavy! I tried out lots of cabinets over the years, SWR, Eden, Trace Elliot, Peavey, Hartke and I like it the best! I chose this product because of it's sound and also I have a friend who is a dealer! It's helped make my tone better and I know I'll be easier to hear on the stage, clearer really. I've always liked Ampeg bass gear and Peavey too, no joke! I like their quality of sound, realistic prices and overall reliablilty.
