Features : 7
5 Band eq, Bright and Deep switches, Sub Harmonic generator, DI Output, External Speaker connector.

No Compressor, Single Channel.

Coming from a line6 flextone for my guitar I missed the instant setup option of presets, every time I move this amp the knobs move and I need to reset it. But given that I should be setting the eq for the room anyway, that's no big problem.

Sound Quality : 9
Wonderful. I use this amp with a Warwick fna Jazzman and the sound is immense. I'm not a great one for sound tailoring live so I'm not really phased by the lack of features.

I've never had to resort to the sub harmonic generator, and the 2x10's give plenty of bottom end as well as the clarity you'd expect.

I play classic rock live with two guitarists (each with a Marshall stack) and a full rock drum kit and I've never struggled to be heard.

I haven't compared with other amps live, but I use a POD for bass modelling in the studio and I'm more than happy with the quality of the amp. I've even been approached by other palyers and told "awesome bass sound". I'm always surprised they spotted the bassist!

Reliability : No Opinion
Not had the amp long enough to make a call.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not had any need to call them

I've been playing music for 23 years and although I started on the bass I have been away or the pass 15 years. I've got lots of semi-pro gear for guitar and keyboards and I have high standards.

I have no problem paying for expensive gear but I bought this amp to tide me over while I looked for my ideal rig. Having used the amp for 6 months however I have no real eason to change the sound is great, and the package portable.

I guess if we end up on bigger stages I may go for a larger rig, but if I do it will only be for looks and I'd seriously consider an ashdown head after my experience here.

My amp was made the year I bought it.

The amp is very versatile as I use it from country to hard rock.

I love the amp because it is simple and great sounding...one channel is all some folks need.

I wish it had an overdrive but there are pedals for that...I never use the subharmonic but it sounds good.

I use this amp onstage and for rehearsal and have never had to take it past 1 o'clock. I mean, really, most clubs you play at DI the thing into their system anyway. Nowadays you don't need a fullstack to get the sound out. The volume is excellent, especially witht he extracab.

Sound Quality : 10
I use an ESP 5 string with a pair of EMG HZ pickups.

It suits my style perfectly. It captures every nuance of my high notes and I do solo a lot with the bass and tend to use just about every note on the fretboard for almost every song and it captures each note to precision. The best part is how is deals with the lows!

The amp is not noisy at all and as far as the fan, that is very much a +, not a negative.

Yes, the clean channel gets a tiny bit distorted but I rarely have to even use it that loud.

The distortion is minimal.

Reliability : 10
I always use this amp at my gigs without my backup....it's totally reliable.

My amp is a solid workhorse.

Nope, never had to use it.

I've been playing bass for about 8 years now...guitar for almost 20 and drums for about 10...I own a bunch of gear and this amp is one of my pride and joys. A true pleasure!

If it were stolen or lost, I would simply replace it with the same.

What I most love about it is the tone, but also the look. Heh...I don't hate anything about it.

Sure, I wish it had a lot of other stuff on it but that's not realistic for the price. Actually, I bought it about 2 years ago and somehow only ended paying about $360 for it, brand spankin new but I would still gladly pay the $499 for it today.

I'd just like to share that this amp is so great sounding, I don't know how someone wouldn't like it.

This is a new Ashdown Mag300, built this year.

It comes with a five band eq, a bright, a deep and an eq on/off button. It also has Ashdown's Sub Harmonics with an on off switch and a roatry dial. There is line in/out and a tuner in socket in addition to a high and a low input.

The volume comes in two stages (pre and post) and the preamp gain is monitered by an analog dial.

The MAG300 also comes with a balanced output so that it can be connected strait into a mixing desk via a balanced mic in.

The only thing that i can thing of that is missing is a built in compression.

At 307 watts this amp has ample power for most gigs and practice sessions.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Dean Edge Pro with Dean active pickups. I play punk (Greenday, The Distillers, Bad Religion) and classic rock (The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream) and find that this amp is good for what i need.

The lack of tube drive (present on the higher end Ashdowns) is a shame for the heavier sounds, but aside from this feature, this is a very versatile amp.

There is little noise in the way of hum, however it appears to have a built in fan, which dose cause some background noise that could be annoying for anyone wanting to mic this up.

As a tweeter is also included, the MAG300 has a nice sound for slap (i dont play much, but am learning this style and find the amp to be good so far) and the Sub Harmonic really adds to the growl for the heavier sounds that you may requier.

Reliability : 9
This seems to be a very well built amp and feels extreamly solid. I've not had any problems with using it so far and dont think that any are likly in the future.

I have dealt with Ashdown once (not regarding this amp) and found them to be very helpfull.

The MAG300 also comes with a three year warranty on all parts, which adds peice of mind.

Overall Rating : 8
For the price range i think that this is a really good amp. Aside from the lack of compression and distortion it really has a great range of features and sounds very good. The internal fan is not normally a problem, but could be annoying if you were trying to mic this amp for recording but the balanced output for DI to a mixing desk helps with this.

I tried an Ampeg and a Calsbro when i was shopping for this, both of which were very nice amps, but if found that the Ashdown had the tone and versatility that i was looking for more than the others.
