Features : 9
4x10"+tweeter 300 watt bass-combo with a subharmonics (octaver) effect and a build-in DI box

Sound Quality : 10
its an amp that should sound very great with almost al types of bassguitars. thats why we've choosen to have it in our church so the bassplayers don't have to bring their own amps every time.

and indeed when its working you'll have a great sound as long as your bass sound good.

the subharmonics is a very nice feature for the bassplayers who don't have a 5th string on their instrument. but you shouldn't turn the subharmonics pot open more then 25%

Reliability : 1
from the first day we've had problems with the amp. after a few minutes of working the power-amp started to make cracky noises instead of a round bas tone. and finaly there was no sound left at all. and when you hit the amp hard on top, it gets working wel again for a few ours.

we've sent it back to the store for repair but after a few weeks the problems started all over again. now it's back to the store for the 2nd time and i hope they will simpley replace the whole amp this time.

Customer Support : 5
first repair didn't realy fix the problem. hope the 2nd time it will be fixt.

Overall Rating : 1
if everything would have been working fine i would defenately rate it a 10 because this sound for this price is simply the best you can get.
but at this moment, because its not working properly it gets a 1

nice. 5 band eq, sub-harmonics, boost on low,mid and highs. And its made over in England.

Sound Quality : 10
Great sound! We played in organ though it! Sounded great! 307-500 watts of pure great power. Freq. range 17hz-20khz! That horn is bright and clear.

Reliability : 10
This thing should have are churchs purple heart! We unloaded & loaded this thing 2-3 times a week with no case. It got soaked, dryed it off still sounded like new. Change the fuse after it blow cause some dump A@# hook up too strong of a cab for the extanter power.

Customer Support : 10
great. They eamiled back and even talk to me about changing the fuse.

Overall Rating : 10
Great semi-pro cab. And with the mag115 with locking caps, nice combo. It a lot lighter then alot of the 4-10 combo amps and even 2-10 combo amps. For the price compared to other combos , you can't beat it.

I think Ashdown did a great job with this combo. Personally i love it. It has all the features i need, tuner out, input for passive and active basses, fx-send and return, a 5 band equalizer, d.i output. The subharmonics feature --- smth i find useless for me..but maybe others they like using that feature.
This is a powerful combo, i use an Ashdown Mag115 Deep extension cab and it sounds perfect. I play metal and sometimes pop rock in small clubs up to 200-300 people and i can't power up more than 3 o' clock...i bought it new from Germany and i am very content so far.
i gave a 9 because i haven't owned a 2000 euro head...:)

Sound Quality : 10
I play an ESP B-2005 30th anniversary with active EMG pickups and a Fender JAZZ Man. Both sound really good. It is versatile for each style of music. The best thing is that without any effect it has no noise. i love that. no buzz, fuzz, when i take my hand from the strings.

However i was not able to get a distorted sound from the EQ. I thing u need a distortion pedal in order to get this feature.

Reliability : 10
no problems so far --- one year --- almost daily practice...i hope it will last...:)

Customer Support : 9
i emailed them once and they replied within one day...really cool!

Overall Rating : 9
I ve been playing for more than 10 years...i owned Drive, Gallien Krueger, Ampeg bass amps and played on many amps...the Ashdown suits well my needs and i am really pleased with it. The only thing i don't like is that is extremely heavy and it is not easy to carry it...i wish it had wheels...

300 watts through a 4x10 cab, input control, output control, 5 band EQ, 2 inputs (hi and low), subharmonic generator, DI output, ext speaker output, effects loop, bright switch, deep switch. Probably a couple of other fetaures that I've forgotten to add too.

A built in compressor would've been really nice too (ala Trace Elliot combos) but I think the new Ashdown Evo 2 MAG series comes with a compressor now anyway (and a 7 band EQ!).

Sound Quality : 8
Currently using this with my Ibanez SR300DX (active bass with P-bass and Jazz bass p/uups) and it sounds pretty good. I had to fiddle with the controls somewhat to get "my sound" as I found it rather muddy to begin with. Think I've got it sounding pretty good now. Never had any distorted notes come thorugh it which is a good thing and it is plenty loud enough for practice and gigging. The subharmonic generator can conjure up some weird, if a little useless, sounds (still a cool feature though).

The only grumble I have is the noisy fan. The amp is fan cooled internally (good feature) but you can hear this all the time the amp is on but you're not playing (bad feature!). Just annoys me a little bit - but you CANNOT hear it while you're playing/recording/etc.

Reliability : 9
Never broken yet! My VU meter on the front has stopped working - it lights up but the needle doesn't move. Most probably a dodgy connection which'll take about five minutes to solve. The front grill looks like it'd take a good kicking before it breaks too - so you're speakers are well protected!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not applicable for me!

Overall Rating : 9
If this were stolen/lost I'd probably buy the 4x10 cab and the head separate (as this one heavy thing to move). Some wheels on the bottom would make this more friendly to move about and a built in compressor would've been the icing on the cake.

But overall this is a pretty good bass amp - and for the money can you really grumble? I think these now retail on some websites in the UK for as little as ??450 (got mine on ebay for ??250). That is not at all bad for a semi-pro level bass half stack is it?

Since Im used to a 12 band eq, the 5 band isnt that great. But then again, I assume it can't get any more versatile with the 5 eq knobs on it. The on/off knobs for 'deep' and 'bright' were a big mistake in my opinion, i wonder why those aren't normal eq knobs. Especialy the 'deep' settings suffers from this. When off your bass sounds a little thin. When on, it makes more noice than truck, but my sound becomes very "not-tight". The low E on my bass makes some kind of WHOOOOOOM sound with the deep-function on. I guess an 15" extension cabinet solves this problem.

Sound Quality : 6
By bass is an OLP MM2 (stingray). I like to play on a funky way, with the use of very sharp sounds with gnarling low notes. This amp suits really well, but when you need to be a bottom for powerfull rock guitar, this amp fails. Frequensies below 100 Hz sound like a cheap subwoofer for your 2.1 pc speakers.
Even though a stingray-like bass isnt made for rockbottom sounds, my lowbudget stingray copie sounds real tight in the low ends on my vintage Trace Elliot GP12 410 Combo.
For this shitty low end it gets an 6, because it really isnt acceptable in my ears. But if you use a 15" extension cab to solve this problem, i guess it would be a 8 or 9.

Reliability : No Opinion
Its only a half year old, so i cant say. Still works fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea.

Overall Rating : 7
For its low price its one of the best 410 combos's you can get. Pretty versatile and a nice sound. But if you go for tight basslines I wouldn't buy it for its whooomy low end, unless you get the 15" cab.
If I fall short on my review, you can mail me at boemboemalex at hotmail.com

This amp has loads of nice features 5 band equaliser, sub harmonic dial ect. could not see an imput for cd players though

Sound Quality : 9
The sound is what makes this amp so great. lovly tone and clarity, even at the loud levels. but it can get distorted when you turn the bass levels up to full.
Slap bass sounds superb on this.

only had it a few days so cant comment, but looks to be reliable.

I bought this in 2002 I think - anyway it's a British built one rather than the Chinese ones that are manufactured now. Pretty simple to understand and plays even better with an extension cab.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using all styles with this and because it has a small hi bandwidth speaker in the centre it can be used for anything. You can over do the bass though and at it's highest volume, without an extension, you'll have to roll back the bass EQ.

Reliability : 9
Seems very reliable and very well made. I have had the heat cut-out shut the amp down when using an extension speaker - but these amps now come with a fan so this won't happen to the new ones.

Customer Support : 10
Absolutely excellent - I even ended up speaking to the Managing director himself once when following up the query about the heat sensor. These guys are very intersted in customers and keeping them happy.

Overall Rating : 9
I have another and plan to get the 4x10 extension speaker as well. Since these are now made outside the UK in China they are just such good value. The new ones can be bought in Europe for #350 and the 4x10 cab for #180. There's nothing much else like it in the market. There's also a new 600 watt head/rack amp, which with two 4x10 cabs would have cost me no more than I paid originally. That's what I replace this with.

Made in 2005
Very versatile, I play loud punk and indie. This is great for a small to medium sized club. I like the retro look, it has great stage presence. I like the well lit meter on the front panel.

Sound Quality : 10
It has a great full sound. I use a Samick Cobra bass with active pickups and a backup passive Jerry Jones Shorthorn for certain songs. I play punk/indie and this amp does the trick for me. This amp has very little distortion with deep stomach tickling lows. I was suprised at how thick it sounds. I bought it from American Musical based on reviews that I had read. They had it to me in 10 days, with free shipping. Music 123 had it but no free shipping and I heard their service is really bad.

Reliability : 9
I've had it for 4 months with no problems. I play volume all the way up without any problems from the speakers. The only thing you have to do is go to Radio Shack and get an American cord. For some reason they ship out all the amps with European cords that will not fit into American outlets. Radio Shack had what I needed and I was in business right away.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not had to deal with Ashdown, but that is a good thing since I have not had a problem with their product.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass since my first garage band in 1967. For the price range this is the best amp out there. I surpasses the GK backline series. If it were stolen I would buy another Ashdown product. Seems many big shot musicians are using them. I have seen Ashdown equipment on a number of rock videos and late night TV talk shows. That says the equipment is totally professional.

2004 model 305 British rated watts, passive/active inputs, deep/bright eq setting, Sub octave in/out, rotary style knobs, Tuner out, Effects in/out Ashdown blue line speakers tough grille and carpet about 80 to 100lbs.

Ok this is where the amp sold me! I play with 4 string Jazz basses 1)Fender American 22 fret standard with Lindy Fralin pickups,2)Home/Custom made jazz with too many features to list. I had the Ashdown MAG300R Head and the MAG 8x10 cab, just needed something smaller. The sound is by far the best sounding amp I have heard in a long time. But at this price, it is the absolute best sounding amp that you can get. I have had ampeg, aguilar, swr, mesa, bag end, eden and a few others. This is the best sounding of all. Very deep lows, crisp highs solid mids, Then when you activate the deep and/or bright settings you get even more outta this baby!Amazing!!! Rating:10+++++++++

Whether buying the lower end Electric Blue/MAG series, or the highest end(ABM, LTD Bentley) Ashdown is a company you can rely on!

Customer Support : 9
Great help with any problems or questions I had! Always answered very fast!

Overall Rating : 9
Ok now as stated above this is in my opinion the best 4x10 combo in this price range. No matter if you rate the cab by itself or the head by itself or together, it is just the best! Ashdown although a relatively new company is among the top! I mean Adam Clayton,John Entwistle? They are among the best ever to play bass, this is their brand of choice! I have had many amps, about 8 years heavy experience and have played big and small shows alike. Trust me If you want the best tone you can get for the money its Ashdown all the way! If you want even more vestatily, look into Ashdown's ABM series. It's a bit more pricey but also among the best!

I bought this amp last year, so I figure it's an '04. It has plenty of features considering it's a mid-priced combo. It has a five band EQ, deep and bright settings, an effects loop, a tuner/line out, a classy glowing VU meter, seperate inputs for active and passive basses, etc. etc. You are really getting a lot of bang for the buck here. The one feature I forgot to mention is the extremely unnecessary sub-harmonic control. This is basically the same as a very cheap octave pedal. It can't really do the octaves for your lower notes, and is therefore pretty worthless. It is an extra knob and button, so it at least makes you look important when you take to the stage, if you're that kind of person.

This amp is really quite a looker. The speakers have blue cones, and the glowing VU meter is really quite the sassy add-on. This amp is honestly the most aesthetically pleasing amp you will find in this price range.

The one feature I wish this thing had is wheels. The handles are sturdy and all, but this amp is a little on the heavy side. You really don't want to carry it everywhere you go. I added my own wheels for only a few bucks, and now I only worry about getting it up and down stairs.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this amp with a Brawley KB-34 and a couple P-bass copies. I used to use it for an acoustic/indie group I was in and now I use it in my current band, a bluesy jam-rock trio. This amp has done all I've ever asked of it and more. It has suited every style I've ever used it for.

This amp is very quiet. Even at high volumes the hum is quiter than the dul fans on the back of the head. The head is rated at 307 watts and the cab is rated at 400, so you don't have to worry about blowing speakers.

This amp has a great warm tone. It has plenty of bottom end and doesn't ever sound garbled or muddy. I have used it at both high and low volumes and the tone is always excellent. The EQ allows for a good amount of variety as do the bright and deep settings. I love the sound of this amp and I can honestly say that it is the best mid priced amp I have ever seen or used.

Reliability : 9
I have depended on this amp every day for the last year and it has never let me down. As for gigging without a backup, now that's just asking for trouble isn't it? But for the weekend warrior who can only afford one amp, this one is built like a tank and shouldn't give you any trouble.

Customer Support : 1
I have never had to use the customer service of Ashdown. I've never had any problems with this amp, and I can't see myself having any anytime soon.

The lousy review in this section is for the crappy service of Music123, who is one of the only large suppliers to offer Ashdown products in the U.S. They failed at customer service in every imaginable way and by the time I got the amp (a full 4 months after I ordered it, and that was with the 2nd day shipping option) I was seriously considering sending it back and telling Music123 where they could stick it. But then I played it and decided to keep it.

I don't know if other people have Music123 horror stories, but this was without question the worst shopping experience I have ever had in my life. They are certainly not the sort of people you would want to make a $600 decision with.

Overall Rating : 9
My other amp is a Kasino Natural 150. If this amp were stolen I would be very anrgy because I still owe money on it to those jerks over at music123. I would definitely buy another. This amp is really a bargain and worth every penny you spend on it and more.

i have been playing bass for over 15 years from old laney amps to clean sounding trace\hartke amps and i feel the quest is over to find the sound that i want at not as much money as i expected
i bought it without actually testing it(which was a little bit of a gamble) but after reading so many good reviews on ashdowns stuff i decided to get it and all i can say is i am glad i did now i just need to get enough gigs in to buy the ABM setup that adam clayton uses...
