Avatar B212 Cabinet

Got mine from the factory direct yesterday. Has all the stuff you would expect as far as "features" go. Very light.

I have an Ampeg V4-B, hardly a sterile bass sound. The cab handles the jazz bass grind and really gives me a ballsy mid with plenty of low end. For some reason it breaks up a little quicker than the Ampeg 8x10 I used before. However, this happens at such a high volume I doubt it will become a factor.

So far so good.

I own a 2007 4ohm Avatar B212 neo cabinet with black tolex. I use it for a prog-punk band, and some bluesier jamming on the side. It's got the basic features; quarter inch and speak-on inputs, and a tweeter attenuator. This amp is plenty loud and low for my needs. I can't believe it's only a 2x12! This thing is amazing. It sounded good right out of the box, but after a couple hours of playing at show volume, it really opened up. I'm talking SICK bass! I just wish the tweeter attenuator was a little more extreme. I can't seem to completely get rid of the crisp highs...I've heard that you can't turn it down all the way or it could blow after hours of use, so I keep it at about 15%. The tweeter being a little high for me is the only issue with this monster. It takes all the 450 watts of my ampeg b2re with ease. Makes me want to up the wattage. Did I mention I can lift it one handed! 56lbs!

I use it with an american P bass and the tone is to die for. The lows are perfect for that fat old school sound, but it can also get plenty gritty if you eq it properly and use a pick. Super versatile cab. If you turn up the highs and flatten your eq you can get a hi-fi sound, but that's not my thing, so I drop the tweeter and go for more of an old-school rock sound. Previously I had an ampeg 410he and an older mesa/boogie 410 diesel. This thing sounds better than both of them. It's louder and lower than either, and it just has a distinct full tone. It's got the punch of a ten and the lows of a 15.

I haven't had it for that long, but it is definitely solidly built and can withstand some travel(at least with the tolex it can). I would depend on it as I'm not even close to blowing a speaker and it seems like it could withstand a fall. This thing would gladly take double the wattage of the b2re before maxing out.

I didn't talk to Dave, but the other guy was extremely helpful. He even gave me a deal due to some other schmuck not paying on time. I would not hesitate to call again, their customer support is legendary.

Great overall cab. For this price it should be a beginner cab, but this thing is pro all the way. Get over your name-brand obsession and get a real cab. This thing blows almost everything out of the water. If it were stolen I would be on the phone with Dave in a matter of minutes, and this time I'd probably throw an 8ohm 112 in addition to the 4ohm 212 for even more fun.

Lightweight cabinet with outstanding sound reproduction.

The custom-made Neo speakers (Neodymium speakers are by Eminence)are very good. Powerful, leightweight magnets. Great feature!

I have cranked my Eden head through this cab and it held up perfectly. No apparent mud in the cab!

The tweeter allows me to get very mellow (old school) or straight spanking a la Geddy Lee or slap.

Perfect performance.

Well, being new, who knows about reliability.

The cab is rugged, nicely crafted, feels tight. The recessed panels help to ensure carpet stays put. The grille is very rugged too.

Same features as all the other ones. Mine was ordered in early 2006. I got casters with mine and installed them myself.

I'm not gonna give it a rating on features because, come on, it's just a cab. It's not like it's going to do your taxes for you.

I'm quite happy with the sound I'm getting out of this amp. It's a nice mixture of a 10's pop and a 15's boom. I usually play with either a G&L L2000 or a Reverend Rumblefish PJ through an Ampeg B2RE. When I'm playing on the G&L I'm mostly doing Justin Chancellor-style Tool stuff, and originally I was concerned if it was going to be able to handle the treble in his sort of tone, but the tweeter handles it just fine. I usually keep the tweeter knob around 9 o'clock. The Eminence's in it sound great, and the only time they start farting is if I'm pumping about 350-375 of my 450 watts into it. (That's with the Master knob on my B2RE at full and the gain knob at like 2 o'clock.) That makes far more than enough noise for the types of venues I play at (usually club-type settings and churches), but if you need to get really REALLY loud, you might want to try the Kappa Pro's that Avatar offers.

It gets a 9 because it gives me everything I need from it. I have yet to run through a cabinet that deserves a 10, though.

When I first got my Avatar, I noticed that the piece of wood that runs right above the port at hte bottom didn't quite fit perfectly with the side walls of the cab. This made me a bit concerned at first, but I've had it for five months now, moved it around a hell of a lot, and this little flaw hasn't given me any issues at all. The cabs that Avatar gets are sturdy as hell. Hefty fuckers, too. Mine has got to weigh somehwere 50-60 lbs, and it's about two feet wide by three feet tall and a foot or so deep (just approximations). This makes it a bit tricky to get in the back of my poor Honda Civic, but it's definitely moveable. The recessed handles are sturdy and as comfortable as rack handles can be, and the plastic corner pieces are fine. The carpet on mine has gotten pretty dirty, but that's probably because the studio I usually use this thing in is in the middle of a pine grove, so the pathway I have to wheel it along is usually coated with a nice thick layer of dead pine needles. It's holding up just fine, though, despite being viciously handled in the back of my car. The casters they shipped are pretty much the exact same ones you can get at your local hardware store. I wish they were a little bit bigger, though, because they have a bit of trouble getting over cords onstage. It would've been nice if they would've included screws, too, but they're like two cents each, so I didn't mind.

It gets an 8 because of that unflush pannel. It hasn't given me any reason to worry in the past 5 months, but I think that should've been a pretty easy flaw to see on Avatar's end.

The folks at Avatar are pretty damn nice. Aside from Joe Naylor at Reverend Guitars, they're the only other musical instrument company I've had to contact, so I'm by no means a veteran. I had a few questions that they answered promptly and I ordered it via email. They gave me a call the next day to confirm, which was a nice surprise. I didn't have a chance to chat with them as much as some people have, but they seemed like nice guys. The sucker shipped FAST, too. It might be because I'm in Oregon and they're based out of Idaho, but (if memory serves) the amp was on my doorstep about 3 days after I ordered it. I honestly don't remember if that's exactly how long it took, but I was expectign WEEKS, not days.

They get a 10 for the prompt shipping and overall niceness. Plus, hey, I like the idea behind Avatar.

I've been playing for about six years now, and the only other cab I've owned was a Laney. The Laney was fine, but didn't give me quite the sound I was looking for.

As much as I like this cab, I don't know if I'd buy another one if it got stolen. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the amp, it's just that when I bought it, I bought it purely on the fact that it was cheap and I needed something that'd be loud. I got a great cab for what I paid, but I've got more money now, so if this were lost or stolen I'd probably replace it with a Trace Elliot cab or something, simply because that's EXACTLY the tone I'm looking for. The avatar gets damn close, though. I hope that doesn't happen, though, because I would be losing a great cab.

The whole shabang gets a 9 because, for the money, you aren't going to get much better.

I bought this cab brizzand...spizzanking...nizzew a week ago.
Does everything I need so far. Has all the features I want and none I don't need. Louder and cleaner than my Ampeg 610HLF.

Yeah, I'm jamming a 2006 Musicman Stingray Dual Humbucker into this cab and it's funk personified, y'all! I am an original Funketeer and bass player extraordinairre so I need some POUND!!! My head is an Ampeg B2-RE. (450 watts @ 4 Ohms).

The Lows are rich and substantial, no excessive gas (farting) or fuzz.
The Mids are defined and pronounced. (Don't make a fret mistake, this cab will expose you)
The highs are discreet, yet butta.
Louis Johnson's "Stomp" bass solo never sounded better.

I had an Avatar B112 before and I expect the same solid reliability with this cabinet. I'm not worried in the least.

Because I dropped my payment (money order) in the mail on a Saturday...and the cab was delivered to my front door on the very next Friday!!! 6 days!!!??? You have got to be kidding me! I've been on hold on the phone longer than that! Ha!!!

Emailed Dave for some info...he emailed me back the very next day.
This kind of customer service is nearly impossible to find these days.
You guys (ladies included) know what I'm talking about.

I've been playing about 20 some years and I am an Avatar customer for life now. I've played Ampeg, Gallien-Krueger, Kustom, SWR, Peavey,
and my thing is...Avatar is the best value...the highest amount of quality for the lowest amount of money.
I love the clean, beefy, phatbooty sound that drives this cab.

The cab is easy on the eyes, too.
All I can say is...She's the one, y'all.

This cab was made in 2005. It has the crossover with the speakon jack included. I've been playing bass for thirty years. I play jazz, funk, R&B,Black Gospel, Contemporary Christian, and Country. I've toured Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and all over the USA and I've never heard a better bass speaker cabinet.

I own six basses. Each has their own personality. This cabinet brings out the best each bass has to offer!

I run a 450 watt David Eden Power amp. I have not even made this speaker cabinet blink. It sounds simply amazing!!! I've played through some awesome cabs. Eden, SWR, Ampeg, etc. This gives you the sound quality of the worlds best at a fraction of the cost!

Nothing needs to be fixed.... I can't even make this cab sweat!!! Dave answers the phone himself. When I was shopping I called him and he was very helpful and personable.

I'd put this product up against the worlds best!!! It is an unbelievable value!!!!!!!! Get it as fast as you can before he raises the price. At these prices they are an out and out steal!!!!!

It has everything it needs to sound great .

I just got a b212 NEO bass cab from the fed ex truck 2 days ago. This thing is AMAZING ! Extremely light in weight for what it holds. I have been playing bass for 40 years, and have used everything from a Bassman, Traynor, Acoustic, Carvin. This walks all over them.
I am running it through a GK 1001RB, and an Alesis 3630 compressor( mildly compressed). I also have 2 1x15" cabs that I had custom built , each housing a 15" Eminence Delta 15LF. The 15" cabs are great, they give me all the fat bottom I need, but this 2-12 neo cab adds crystal clear and punchy mid and upper bass, and beautiful " tingly" top end that I was missing. I would not think for a second about using the 2 12" cab as a stand alone for small to medium size gigs. The bottom end is real focused, and has in your chest thump. I use a Precision & jazz , and there is no sound you can't achieve with this cab. From old school, to crisp modern . I am looking forward to pairing it ( full range) with 1 of the 15 " cabs for that spread out bottom end, and I will be floating in the clouds !!

I ended up getting one that was used and has the front port, but does not have the speakon connector like the new ones, that is a really handy addition on the new ones. The tweeter was also fried when I got it and I have not replaced it because I use it for bottom end as it is. The cab is definitely manageable to get around also, unlike a lot of the other bass cabinets that compare in output and features. It's definitely a cost efficient way to get some air moved and it's got solid tone behind it.

I play a Fender American Hot Rodded Precision thru a driven tube pre and have a crossover going to a 250w amp powering the cab. When I got the cab the guy told me it moves air and honestly, it does. I thought I got a 215 when I heard it. But without the crossover, it has a really full and ambient richness to the sound. Having no functional tweeter, I dont know how it would sound if it was working properly. That's my only negative aspect on the sound. I have not been able to distort it even hitting my limiter at 250w. It just wants more power it seems. Very deep sound, but not quite the rumble of a 218 type depth.

The tweeter was broken when I got it, and other reviews point out tweeter/crossover problems in the cab, that's my only negative I can think of and why it only gets an 8. The 12 LF's have done me well on the road and in practice, the cab is super strong, I mean ROCK solid and the handles are positioned better than a lot of other cabs I've owned. At 75 pounds, I thought it was really pretty easy to get around, especially for what the cabinet can do!

I got it used, so I can't do much about it. The tweeter came fried but like I've said, I have an active crossover in my rig as it is keeping it to only the bass end going through my 212.

I have the 210 and the 212, with a crossover and 250w going to each one and it is a NASTY rig. The 212 really carries it's own weight in depth and tone and output. I would say it's the first time I really feel 100% trust worthy in the cabinet from looking at its construction, power handling, response, tone, comparative light weight and overall quality. The 12 LF's have impressed me and for a narrower box shape, it still puts out as deep as Eminence says those speakers will do.

Just want to make an update to my last entry. After trying the cab a while, I decided to push it harder. I retired my Carvin DCM600, and replaced it with a Carvin DCM1000. Bridged at 4 ohms is 1000 watts. That is how I run this cab now, and it really made a difference in how it handles the lows. I must just have been running out of headroom. I suggest running the cab at the full 1000 watts. Definately made a real diffence. Very nice indeed!!

Being a cab it really doesn't have any features but it works amazingly, the eminence speakers sound really good. The twelves are perfect because I don't need a huge rig but I never have to worry about filling a room. I can get amazing responce when slapping and pounding lows also.

Its sounds perfect, my head isn't that great so sometimes I get a hum but the cab does exactly what its supposed to.

The cab is rock solid, the plastic corners on mine have cracked but other than that the thing is a tank, I am constantly moving mine and it has help up well.

I have heard only good things about the guys at avatar and their service but I have never had to call

If you want a cab that isn't to big but can still gig buy this one, excellent price and works amazingly.
