Has a nice EQ section and a Gain/Drive feature on channel 2 (which can be footswitched).

This is where this amp failed. I recommended this amp and other Behringer amps to people after hearing how nice the BX4500 head sounded. This was a different beast entirely. I play mainly hard rock/melodic hardcore, but sit in with pop and country bands, too and it did not work for any style AT ALL.
This speaker just supports everything that opponents of aluminum cones use to argue against them. It was extremely harsh sounding for slap, yet lacked the punch of the Hartke kickback it was designed to emulate.
I actually did get a decent sound out of it after twirling knobs, setting the drive, and ignoring the Sub-bass feature (this is nothing more than an octave effect, and it does NOT sound good on the E string. The other strings were okay, but what's the point of adding sub-bass to your higher notes)? After having a chance to play on it for awhile, it was returned.
The kicker was the lack of oomph. 120 watts should have pushed this speaker nicely, yet the 30-watt Warwick we were A-B'ing it against in the store produced better tone and more volume. The 50 watt Peavey Minx 110 which replaced it absolutely blew it away.
The combination of nose-wrinkling bad tone and lack of punch is not acceptable, even at this price.

Behringer has a spotty track record, at best. It all depends on what 6-year kid is working in the overseas sweat shop that produces these things. So far no problem with the bx4500 head, but I didn't keep this one long enough for it to break down on me.

It was returned, and the Peavey Minx that was bought to replace it was MUCH, MUCH better sounding, and was exponentially louder.
This was purchased by a student because of my recommendation. It was meant to be a practice/light gig amp so he could hear himself over his drum player. In this respect, it failed. Being a newbie, he didn't know how to get a decent tone out of it, and its power section was severely disappointing. Not very loud at all.
He let me have it for awhile to adjust the settings to sound good, but the more I had it, the less I liked it. I found him the used Peavey and he loves it.
Not a good amp for students, even worse for serious gigging musicians. What a shame, since the BX4500 was such a nice surprise...
Get a used Peavey or even (I can't believe I'm saying this) a Crate at this price range and be much happier.

Im using a Jass bass with passive pickups, a little hum at hi gain hi vol but what amp doesnt, a little distortion at very hi gain and volume. Quite like the sounds its capable of, only just got it so.
Sound does punch out and through nicely in my rehearsals

looks well made, its only new so no real opinion here, others have commented on the pots, I think there up to the job, could be more manly i guess but you only need your fingers to turn them not a hammer ! The reviews here suggest less than perfect relibilty but my guess is that loads of these have been sold.

Been playing Keys for 20 yrs, Bass for a few months , if it were lost or nicked I would buy another just on price bang for buck is good.
I like its size its punch, it versatile it's cheap I looked at upmarket stuff and just did not want to spend out at this stage, if this proves reliable I reckon I 'll keep it.

I am a service tech. This amp came in for repair. Seems that it should not have failed as yet, being a solid state amp. I think mfg in 2001, date code is 1201.
One of the main power amp IC's blew, not a good sign of a good design, but I can't tell why for sure.
Over all the construction is impressive, even over kill, quality FR4 circuit board, surface mount components (hard to service tho), toroidal power transformer, glued down connectors inside? I've never seen any of these ever fall off, so what gives here?

Their email was quickly answered within 24 hours. However, they DO NOT GIVE OUT SCHEMATICS!!!!!
You can only get this fixed at an authorized service center, thank you very much.
I have never been refused a schematic for any other brand I've repaired. You have to pay for Crate, but they can be had fairly cheap. QSC has theirs posted on web site, what a company! Carvin has the best and friendliest service I've seen, quickly emailing me a schematic free of charge for a R400 bass amp.
Buy Carvin, or something else, not Behringer, basically no support

I would not recommend this amp, unless considered a throw away if it breaks. I had to fix this amp blind (no schematic), and succeeded, but most folks would be lost. One of the 2 main power amp IC's blew, not a sign of a good design, but in all fairness I don't know why.
They seem to have good value per dollar, and good solid construction and quality parts, but with this authorized service only attitude, shop somewhere else! There are simply too many other good companies that support their stuff. Can you imagine Fender telling you that yo can't have a schematic? The world would come to an end.
Buy Carvin, they support service techs, they fix their own stuff, and are helpful.

3 Years but ive owned lots of amps and stuff for guitar (4 Years) and know alot about music techniology. Im envolved in sound (PA) also. If it was stolen id replace it in a flash. There is better amps out there of course but if your on a tight budget and want a good enough amp for giging with lots of cool sounds go for it!!!
Wish it wasn't as heavy but this is probably due to the sturdy construction. :Apart from some of their minor PA stuff, this is pretty much the only good thing that behringer have made.

Mine is a 2003 amp. I bought it as a practice and teaching room amp due to it having 2 channels, being a combo and having next to no fan or other superfluous noise. Also it was a cheapish solution with a clean straight sound. The features are great, I use the <Tape Out> feture to go straight into my Mac for recording song ideas etc. The DI works fine as well. Headphone out is great for personal practice when my young son is asleep.

The speaker in it is only OK, I find it a little brittle sounding. I play (Mainly) a 72 Fender Jazz with Active EMG pickups which has (to my ears) a beautifully consistent tone. So with this in mind I find the speaker does colour the sound a little. When I plug into my 15" 400w EV cab its sounds just great but maybe this comparison is a little unfair.

This amp was made in 2003 and I use it to play blues/southern rock.
It has two chanels, a passive and active inputs, and a foot switch, headphone jack. No external jack for extra cab. It has an ultrabass setting that to me sounds cheezy but the clean sound is good. It is solid state with an aluminum speaker that I replaced, however the original speaker didn't sound that bad. My main criticism of this amp is that it is HEAVY, real heavy!!!

I play an upright bass, fretless acoustic and a fender jazz thru this amp and it is versitile with both piezo and magnetic pups. It is dead quiet, absolutly no ambient noise. Feedback is not a problem with the piezo/acoustic basses which is a plesant suprise. I go for a low bottom with almost no treb. or mid. but bass full on. Very loud!

Ive' been playing for 25 years and play bass, sax, harp and six string and use Fender guitars. If this amp were stolen, I don't think I would get another. Even though It sounds fine; It's HEAVY and I'm to old to strain anything. I bought It because it was inexpensive and loud and didn't feedback. If I continue to use this amp, I'm going to get a dolly to haul it around.

I purchased this amp in Sep 2005. I also have an Ampeg head and 4X10 cab, but found it was really tough to carry around, especially for small venue performances. After doing some internet research, I went to a local music store and tried out the BX1200. The sound was really very good, particularly for the price. The amp has a nice, crisp tone and also sufficient bottom end. Its features include dual channels, Ultrabass (I haven't used this but once or twice, as I have a DSP200 effects box), three band EQ, and a variety of outputs, including XLR. I use the BX1200 as an active monitor on-stage, for practice, and small venues. It has enough power, but the volume tends to flatten out at mid range and further increases are not very noticeable. All in all, for $209 it has a variety of features and a good tone.

I play contemporary Christian and smooth jazz, and the BX1200 works good for both. On stage I play contemporary Christian and use it as a floor monitor with the XLR out going to the house PA. My bass is an Ibanez SR506BM and I use a DSP200 effects pedal. There is some distortion using this configuration, which seems more pronounced on the higher notes. Again, considering the price paid, its sound is more than adequate.

I've found one quirk that potential buyers should be aware of. When playing thru it on stage, the internal speaker quit, but the output kept going fine out to the house speakers. After doing some research, I found that there is apparently an issue with phantom power, in that if your channel has it, somehow it disables the internal speaker but still feeds the output to the XLR. I've had it two months and no breakdowns yet, just that one instance of the speaker shutting down. At this point, I am not confident enough with it to use on a gig without a backup.

I've been playing off and on for 25 years. I also own an Ampeg B1RE head and BSE410HLF cabinet, and a Fender Standard Jazz bass. If the amo were stolen or lost, I would not buy another one. I'd buy a small Ampeg instead, probably one with 1 15 inch speaker in it that would tilt back on stage like the BX1200. Alternatively I'd buy a single small cabinet with one 15 in it and use it with my B1RE head. Again, you get what you pay for. For $209, I can live with it for practice and as an active floor monitor.

I have it since 1,5 years, now. And I guess that it was newly in the store at that point.
It's a small, tilt back combo with a 12" aluminium cone speaker. It has 120 watt's power at 4 ohm, and thats exactly what the build-in speaker is, so you really get the 120 watt's out of it. It can be used beside two guitarplayers and a drummer, playing groove metal.
There are two footswitcable (footswitch included) channels. One with gain control and one with gain and shape controls. Next there's a four band EQ with treble, high-mid, low-mid and bass controls. Then you've got an octave control (also footswitcable), copied from ashdown amps and it ends with the master volume control.
It has a good DI at the back, a headphone jack and active/passive inputs for the bass. Also a pre-amp out, power-amp in and effects-loop.
You can unplug the build-in speaker to connect it to another cabinet.
It has more than a combo should have, so it never comes short.
It's mainly my rehearsal amp, cause we've a small rehearsal room.

It acually sounds great ! Big, rich sound, but not really loud. There are two channel, so you can even do solo-ing, if you wanted to. It's mainly used with an Ibanez EDA 905 bass. This is a 5-string bass and even with the B-string tuned to A, the Behringer delivers !
There's some noise with treble turned way up, but wich amp doesn't have?
The EQ really works fine and the octave function is nice, but I never use it. I want to hear the bass' sound, not the amp's.

I've been playing for 15 years now and I've owned several amp's: A Torque 100, a Crate 160 watt combo, a Crate BT 350 head with two 410 cabs, an Ampeg SVT II tube head (worse head I've ever owned !) and now I'm playing into a BOSS GT-6, through a Crest 900 watt poweramp, into a Peavey 410 cab on stage.
If it where lost I'd buy the bigger brother, the 450 watt ULTRABASS BX4210A. Cause you'd never have to pass it for the price.
I wished I'd waited a little longer, before buying it, cause the was a price-drop after I bought it.

Date code on the amp is 0103, so i assume January 2003 as manufacture date. Solid state, 4 band eq., gain and master volume. It has all the basic features you could ask for in a small combo, 2 channels, xlr out, tuner out, rec in/out, preamp in/out, even a headphone jack; the amp is fan-cooled and is ported in the rear, and I love the kickback/monitor design. Channel 2 is very versatile with the shape control. The amp came with a footswitch for changing channels and toggling the Ultrabass feature. The Ultrabass adds an octave below the note being played, but I have yet to find a setting on it that satisfies me. I had my doubts about whether it had enough power for a gig, but after playing a wedding reception where I had to compete with a Fender Twin and a Peavey Classic, my doubts are erased. This little powerhouse did the job with plenty of headroom to spare and did it cleanly.

My main axe is a Yamaha RBX-260 passive pstyle, I also use a Cort headless with EMG Select pj passives, and (don't flame me for this) a Rogue Lx-205 5 string. I play mostly classic rock and country covers, and this little amp does a good job with it on all my basses.
The amp has a very DEEP and clean sound. Very well suited for my playing style. I haven't had to use it at high volumes, it has plenty of power for small to possibly medium indoor venues. I usually play through a Fender BXR400 with 2-10 and 1-15 cabs, and this little combo actually has a cleaner, deeper sound than the Fender.

I've been playing bass off and on for 26 years. Also have some guitar gear. Yeah, for under $200 I would replace it. I love the sound of this amp and was quite surprised with it's power, the portability and kickback design are great too. I looked at a lot of amps before I bought this one, and now I'm glad I did buy it. For the money, no other manufacturer can touch this little workhorse. Anyone who complains that this amp doesn't cut it is off the mark. No, it won't compete with a 500 watt monster for sheer volume, but why do you need that much power on stage? Use the DI and let the PA do the work.

man this thing has more features on it than you will ever use i dont even know where to begin to be honest with you. i have never seen more bang for your buck. this has 2 channels, but channel one is useless as you cant use the shape knob with it and it sounds very average without the shape. the ultrabass is kinda useless for any practical purpose but is fun to play with. like i said though has a shitload of other features that make it the best value on the market. where else do you get 120 watts and a 12" aluminum cone speaker for 200 bucks? tell me and ill kiss your ass

the sounds really range from mild to wild depending on how you set it and your bass. this thing sounds really wild with my highly customized fender precision and even sounds good with my little squier affinity p bass. this amp is capable of any sound youre looking for and has a lot of volume for what it is. i can hear it plain as day over the drums in my band in the basement though i have never gigged it and i dont suspect i could handle a large hall or outdoor venue. i can really cut through in the mix with this amp and it does have a line out so you can run it into your pa and it tilts back so it makes the best monitor you can imagine. my fender bass really nails the iron maiden tone and with my vintage basses it does well for blues and country as well. it has stood up to abuse so far!this thing just sounds like more money than i payed so for that i am eternally grateful to behringer.

i give this a nine because for the money you will not get anything better and i know for sure as i have been a musician for 18 years on a tight budget and i have tried every cheap amp around and for the money you will not even come close to the tone, volume, or features. if you have been looking at this amp and not sure about it, stop screwing around and just get it. it wont let you down as long as youre not planning to rock a football stadium with it, but if you were you wouldnt be reading my review would you?
