Recent model, 2007-2008. Bought as a refurb through MusiciansFriend.com. Marketed as a "practice amp" but it could really use casters and/or side handles, as this is one heavy mother. I've toted this thing around to many a practice session and a few smaller venues and it's a lot heavier than what I define as a "practice amp."
I find the tape inputs relavtively useless, as this is a bass amp - thus its sonic range is limited; it's not like you could plug in a music CD and play along with it, although that's the intent. I will confess that I have never even tried to use the inputs. I tend to practice with my computer's nicer sound system cranked up, and adjust the levels on the amp. I've never come close to maxing the amp out, because by the time you add the rest of a band into the mix playing through individual amps, your ears are at risk of damage. No joke here; and make no mistake - there's plenty of power for a wide range of applications.
The amp has plenty of balls for small to midsized spaces and can capably compete with the drums and guitars in a rehearsal room or small club, although gigging out with it might be pushing it. While gigging I prefer to use it as a preamp, running the amp out to the board or miking it to get the tone I like and letting the house speakers do most of the work. With the shape and four EQ knobs, the amp is extremely flexible, allowing me to dial in the tone I want with several different instruments.
The headphone jack is a blessing for my family, and the sound through a pair of Sony studio monitors is good. As with all headphones, the extreme low end leaves something to be desired - bass requires big speakers, after all - but the tone is nice and comes through well.

My main bass is a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Signature, which in itself has a wide variety of tones. It uses vintage-style passive pickups and therefore I play through the passive input on the amp. The shape control is really sweet on this unit; I prefer it on and around the 10 o'clock position. With a combination of tone control tweaks, I get a really punchy sound that cuts through very nicely. I can get sounds ranging from a drummer of mine once called "being punched in the face with a wet sock" all the way to twangy/jangly and everywhere in between. I have been able to successfully emulate my preferred sound that I normally get through a Sansamp preamplifier, completely unnecessary with this unit.
I play mostly driving rock that goes from classic to pop-punk. The amp is very quiet and I rarely hear hum coming from the unit - when I do, it's always been the pickups on whatever bass is jacked in. There's extremely low distortion, probably due to the "Dynamizer" technology in the preamp, which Behringer claims limits excessive peaks in the input signal. I'd have to give them high marks on this count. It's pretty hard to overdrive this amp and get it to fuzz, if that's your thing - but it's definitely possible. The enclosure is vented and provides a lot of output. Because of this, you're more likely to blow the cone out than to get distortion. Sealed cabs are better for that kind of thing.

The cabinet is extremely solid, made of MDF with a standard black covering. I mentioned before that it could really use side handles and/or casters, as the weight (20kg, about 45 pounds) can break your back with the single top handle. That said, the handle itself seems to be anchored well and has held up through a lot of toting.
I encountered an obnoxious buzzing sound a few months back that seemed to be from a resonant frequency. The speaker wasn't blown, and tweaking the EQ got rid of it for the most part. I have not gotten far enough into the unit to figure out where that's coming from, although it's definitely in the amp section somewhere. I suspect something came loose during transit and buzzes when I'm really cranking it out. Behringer does not offer any diagrams on how to remove the amp from the cabinet and I have not yet been able to figure out how to remove the amp thus far. Being mechanically inclined, that put me off because I really don't like the idea of taking it in for service, but that may end up happening.
Outside of this issue, which may be related to its refurb status, the amp has been solidly reliable and consistent. There are no weird peaks or valleys in the controls, although the volume control tends to dip off the low end response at low - and by low I mean around 1 out of ten - levels. Since this is where most folks would typically play, I find that a non-issue.

I've not had the opportunity to deal with Behringer's support, and their website is in the middle somewhere. I'd really like to find a service diagram but they probably save that for their authorized dealers, which I expect.

I've been playing professionally for about 15 years and bought this with the intent of using it for rehearsals and practice at home, but I've gigged with it a few times because I found I really liked the tone. I've played through many a Hartke over the years with a variety of cabinets and with the exception of heart-stopping, brain-damaging volume levels, this amp gets it done. I'd definitely consider a direct replacement if this unit ever got stolen or damaged. The price to value ratio is excellent and it's built like a Sherman tank. I'd really like lo-z ins and outs, but in this price range maybe that's asking too much. The stock ins and outs provide a lot of flexibility and make this a great unit for recording, rehearsal and small gigs.
The range of tone is surprisingly capable for such an inexpensive unit and has been very satisfying across a range of styles. The BX600 works better in enclosed spaces and falls a bit short on outdoor venues, which should not be surprising. If you expect more out of a 60 watt amp, get real!

I would not suggest this for any bass player looking for a quality bass amp. I guess it would be good for someone making a step up from the begginer 10-watt, but the 30 watt would probably be better. I would not buy another Behringer ever.

One review here mentioned that some of the BX600's had a wrong speaker inside (50W). Well, funny enough, mine has a 70W speaker! I emailed Behringer about it but the guy who answered was not interested at all about this problem. I have written them a new email and I hope they will send the 100W speaker that it should have like it says in the BX600 spec sheet.

I have been using this as a practice amp for about 6 months now, and it does the job really well. The shape knob makes the amp a bit more flexible, and using that along with the 4-band EQ means that you can get most tones you need. Other standard features like passive and active inputs, RCA in, line-out etc.
One thing I don't like is that if any of the EQ bands are hiked to far, the amp gets pretty noisy.
Sound Quality

Good output as a practice amp, and could probably be used for smaller gigs. As mentioned earlier, the tones available from this amp are pretty varied. The amp can be noisy at times, which only gets amplified at high volumes. Not bad for the price, but not brilliant.

I've never had a problem with this amp at all. Six months on, it performs as well as it did the day I bought it. I know a lot of people blast Behringer in terms of quality, but I don't believe any of it. Just try to test the actual unit you are going to buy before you buy it to make sure you don't get a lemon.

I have an early BX600, i bought a few months after they were introduced into the US. The amp has a good about of features for such a cheap amp. The eq is great and the little shape knob works great as a shortcut. For the price it you get alot to work with.

I use a fender geddy lee jazz bass. The sound of this amp is very distinct and different from alot of the other equipment that is out there, in my opinion. Out of the box the amp lacks the tightness, punch and growl on low notes you find in most of today's products. If this is the tone you really need to nail, you might consider a compressor(or a more expensive amp). It is capable of handling a wide range of styles with good accuracy. What i've found useful about this amp, even after i've moved on to better equipment, is that it provides a great gentle, mellow, smooth tone with you just can't get with alot of gear. Because of the tuned cabinet, you can get notes to linger for a little while creating a very pleasing effect not unlike a very short reverb. Great for vintage rock, jazz, blues, etc.

Before i upgraded to an ampeg half stack, i put this thing through the mill. It really isn't suitable for gigging per se, but if you're just starting out and its your first amp at least this thing gets really loud. I used it several times a week in rehearsal and for lame shows for almost 2 years continuously when i started out, keeping the volume up all the way the whole time. It was able to take alot of abuse, especially for the price and never failed once. Some of the tolex got pretty messed up.. but that was my fault. I've read that some of these have a misrated speaker, but i never had that problem. It will break up and give you some awful sounding distortion if you turn it up and supply too much gain (i had this problem when using a compressor)

I've been playing for 6 years now, and i own an ampeg half stack for actual work. If this were stolen or lost, i probably wouldn't replace it because im cheap and have a reliable better quality amp. As i stated earlier, i really like some of the tones that this thing can produce, it was a pleasant suprise for what it cost.
Basically if you're looking for a solid first amp this is a great option. You get an amp that can handle alot of styles reasonably, can take a good amount of abuse and most importantly doesn't cost a whole lot. If you're just starting out, maybe the most important thing is that this amp will be loud enough to cover you for rehearsal and light gigs (provided you don't have 2 guitarists with full marshall stacks or some other guitar bullshit like that..) and the tone is good enough to work in almost any beginning situation (who really cares about tone anyway its fucking bass)

Made in '03. Fairly versitile. I've played funk, country, reggae, hip hop, blues, and rock with it, and it seems to cover all the 'bases' well. Single channel, no effects loop (dang it), good headphone jack, but don't record from it, I always got background noise. Powerful enough for practice, and good on stage if used with a direct box, or mic'ed.

Here's where it sucks. I've been through 2 of these amps now, and will never buy it again. The first one got a 12 inch crack in the tolex from doing nothing but sitting in a nice, shaded, cool room with one smaller lightweight amp sitting on top of it. I traded it in under warranty for the second one. Now this one just recently blew it's amplifier from pretty normal use. It's no longer under warranty, so I'm up a creek.

I've played for nearly 10 years, and owned 2 or 3 bass amps. The last one I owned was a SWR Workingman's 15. That was a great amp. It was powerful, clear, and packed with features. It was also 4 times as expensive as the bx600, so I guess you get what you pay for.
I'll never buy this amp again, and though I'm tempted by the price of the bx1200, I don't think I'll buy another Behringer bass amp.

Bought it new in December, 2004. Nice set of features for what it is. It is, as the other reviewer said, very loud for a 60 watt combo amp. Nice 12" woofer installed. I bought it for a practice/church amp, and I have to say that it's about 5 pounds heavier than it probably should be for that purpose. Nice set of features for the price, and nice tone with the "shape" feature. You can not run an extension cab (it's a 60 watt amp). It does have a direct line out (post EQ) that works well for the PA input; however, be advised that the signal is not completely noise free.

Sound is actually great for its category. The 4 band-EQ or Shape function can dial in a number of tones easily. It's loud for it's size. It costs 150 dollars. What more do you want?

It's been reliable for me, but I'm giving it an 8 because five times, for no reason, the volume level has "dropped" inexplicably for me. It's always been rectified by turning the amp off and then back on, but it's puzzling nonetheless.

Good practice/small venue combo amp. I've been playing for 20 years (out), and if you want to use this in a church setting, I'd advise either using it as your stage monitor (and put your sound through the PA). Where this would REALLY shine would be in small clubs at a jazz/blues gig with a guitar/bass/drum trap set trio. That would ROCK!

I have a stingray 4 string and a crappy squire jazz bass. They both sound decent thru this amp. I got it so I could have an amp just to pluck around in my living room with but it seems like you could use it to jam with too. I don't think you could do a rock gig with it unless it was at a coffee shop or something. But remember, this thing is dirt cheap! I plugged into an LA series 12 inch SWR that cost a $100 more and my mind was made up in about 10 seconds - I went with the Behringer.

Have played a Fender Deluxe Jazz (active) and a 6 string Alvarez bass (passive) through it and it sounds great. No buzz or hiss of any kind. This amp can be very loud and clean at high volumes.
BUT, apparently Behringer made a bunch in which they put the wrong speaker. Just like others here, mine had the 50 watt speaker in it instead of the 100 watt speaker so it started to buzz on certain notes after a while.
The GOOD NEWS is that if you call Behringer and tell them they will send you the 100 watt speaker for free. Remove 4 screws take out 50 watt speaker and put in 100 watt and you've got a KILLER amp for the money!

Excellent. All you have to do is tell them the speaker buzzes and that you looked at it and it says 50 watts instead of 100 watts and they will send you a new 100 watt speaker. I did this well after my warranty expired, (although I didn't tell them that)
I think they are aware of the situation so they don't push real hard on the warranty issue, they didn't even ask me to send a dated receipt.

I have been playing music for over 30 years. I can not tell you now this amp was last year, but the version I got rocks!!!!! I just had to write a reasonable review because of some of the less the resonable ones I have read about this amp. I would have to pay almost twice as much money to replace it in another brand.
I tried out ever amp in the store under $300(That is what I intended to spend), including the BX1200, and this one just blew the rest of them away in overall sound quality/volume.
You don't get something for nothing, but we do have to be reasonable about things. Can you find better bass amps, sure, but not for $169!!!

AN updateof my review, ( one of the first).
Eventually i Did start to get a buzzing noise after jamming with soem buddys a few weeks ago.
The proiblem?
It indeed is the speaker . HOw did i tell? I pulled out the speaker and it buzzed while not in the cabinet, so i replaced it with a 12 inch eminence alpha.
Result?
SOLID. The eminence sounds different, it doens thave as much presence. On he other hand the low end is SOLID.
The over all amp sounds solid now. The bass is strong like a kick in the balls. I pump up some o the highs a lil , bu other than that she sounds great now, just darker. But what i love is that i can absolutely crank her, and get no distortion.
Oh and you might be wondering how u can get inside the amp?
the front is VELCRO'd on ! Atfirst getting inside the map seems liek pandoras box, then i ecided i didnt need the front grill anyways so id jsut rip it off.
Well
its made to be ripped off lol.
Inside is immaculate. The cabinet is truly top notch.
Basically the Bx600 is a rockin amp with a crappy speaker.
Stil altogether i paid 140 + 45 bucks for the spekaer. So 185 bucks for a solid (now its reliable) , good sounding jamming amp.
STILL cant beat that.

For the first couple of weeks, this amp was excellent. It could do anything I wanted it to. From there, its health really declined. Running a bass through this (like it's meant for) is hellish. It buzzes on certain notes. No matter what volume. The buzzing is simply much more present at higher volumes. However, running a mic for horns are vocals through it seems to work fine. When it comes down to it, this just isn't a very good amp. It suffers speaker buzz and is made of poor quality materials. I would maybe suggest this to someone who just wants volume and doesn't care a thing at all about tone. The only upside to this is that it gets very loud and doesn't quit. Not even good for beginners, I'd say.

Well lemme tell u this baby sounds NIIIIICCCEE. Even if i forget i paid 140 for it for a moment. Using this with my SX Jazz bass which is nto the most expensive thign on earth by any means, it just spits out awesoem basstones. Any where from thing and trebbly, to smooth n middy, to deep n punch/thumpy. Wait i take that back, this thing is almost AlWAYS punchy. imean if u really tried, u can make it unpunchy. But heck this thing can make alost any bass sound , but it always sounds good. And the shape filter can seeem to add some sort of thickness beyon the already great tones when the shape filte risnt on. Amazing. Actually the only tone this thing cant get is distorted.
Matter of fact i ran this thin on about 10 out of 12 on the volume and couldnt get the slightest hint of distortion. Osmehting VERY FEW amps can do. Now i dont know for certain if this woudl gut thru with a drummer as i ahvent used it with one yet. But i hav ejameed with some friends ( by the way this amp make s a great acoustic electric amp, and when i use my electric guitars i get an absultely beautiful and warm clean sound, the distortion sound srather solidstate when i use a pedal, but the clean tones rock my socks off). And volume wise, i have to agree that this amp sounds alot bigger than its rated. Pretty dang loud.
And mostimportantly as regards the 100 watts speaker.
My manual says 100, but sicne the back is sealed i have no idea. But i do know One thing, i ran this thing 1 notch from wide open and the only thing buzzing were the flourecent light fixtures, and soem stuff half way across the room. No actual everythign in the room was vibrating :p. Actualy this thing rubles stuff at about 3 on the volume. anyhoo, no buzzes, actually im aazed at how solid the cabinet is. This baby rocks, period.

Reply to Mike and some other reviewers: I wrote an earlier review concerning the speaker in this thing. The manual that came with the amp did state teh speaker was a 100 watt unit; opening the cab, I saw that the speaker in this 60 watt RMS amp was rated at 50 watts.
A bass amp should induce vibrations in its surrondings; where vibrations are not welcome is when the speaker buzzes and sounds like Bob Dylan.

I notcied some peopel had problems, and others didnt with this amp and i figured out why.
I looked on a few websites to see the specs and it seems that at one point behringer installed 50 watt speakers on this model. but thats way too low for a 60 watt amp. SO if u played it at any reasonlable volume, youd get buzzing cuz u just blew the weak speaker. BUT now i looked on behringer websites and it seems they now come with 100 watt speakers, just right. Which may be why u can find so many good recent reviews. All the new models should have this speaker. Im gonna be gettign one soon and posting a review.

60 watts, 4 band eq, shape function, effects loop, line and headphone outs, passive and active inputs. The shape function is really useful in getting a good, punchy tone, as is the 4-band (with seperate high and low mids). everything you need, and then a little.

i'm using this with a standard fender jazz bass, and it suits my style just fine (classic rock-type stuff, with some slap thrown in).
It's quiet, only hums in rooms with noisy wiring or with noisy cables/basses. can get hissy with treble cranked too high.
It gets all sorts of sounds, and i get a pretty good slap tone with bass at 3 o'clock, low mid at 9 o'clock, high mid at 5 o'clock, and treble at 12 o'clock, and shape at 1 o'clock.
only problem is that it starts to buzz and gets boomy at higher volumes (past 8 or so on the volume dial). sounds good overall.

i've been playing bass for only 8 months now, but i've been playing guitar for 2 years now.
if it were stolen, i'd probably get something else, bigger. maybe a traynor/yorkville, or an ampeg. 10 for value.

Features are well described below. No need to repeat them.
For $139, it's the best feature list I could find.

Good sounding amp at low volumes (below 5). Shape function gives some nice alternatives to simple EQ settings. Higher volumes produced an ugly rattle which I have somewhat calmed by tightening the Speaker screws. I have only one bass (an American Standard P-Bass) and it sounds really nice through it.

Have only owned it for about a week. Still getting unwanted rattles at high volumes and have to make the decision to either return it or just go to work on it myself (voiding the warranty). With shipping at around $30 and the original cost at $130, I'm leaning towards the DIY fixes. From the other posts, it looks like buying a 'good' one requires a bit of luck. Getting that rattle right out of the new box shows that Behringer pays little attention to production line testing as well.

I've been playing guitar for 30 years and the bass for about 7. Have owned and played a lot of equipment and generally go for higher end equipment. I usually only record the bass using one of several direct-in approaches and only got this amp for some casual jamming (so I'm not a bass amp expert).
Picking an overall rating for this amp is a tough call. What should we expect for $139? The features and sound are better than the price reflects. But the Chinese manufacturing quality seems to suck. Then again, if Behringer paid for quality manufacturing they would have to raise the price. If you're like me and are willing to fix some of the manufacturing mistakes, it's a bargain (as long as they are fixable and not component failures).

Nice feature set considering that this was the cheapest 60w amp I could find... reasonable equaliser (bass, low mid, high mid, high), plus shape filter which really does give a nice bass sound, much fuller. Has connectors for passive / active bass, tape inputs, preamp out, power amp in (effects loop over the two), line out and headphone out. Good value for money features-wise.

I use the amp with a Tanglewood Rebel 4k bass, and I play a lot of different styles, all of which it copes with. Has enough low-end punch, but is a bit more powerful in the mid range. Sound quality is very nice, but an effects pedal would be worthwhile with it for a bit of variety. Very little noise as long as you use a decent quality cable. Best to set the shape filter to half way or higher, gives the output a bit more punch. Suprisingly loud for a 60 watter.

Excellent value for money. Obviously less features, power etc than more expensive amps, but.. it's not an expensive amp so it's not an issue. Good sound quality, good power, good features, reliable, I'm happy.

After about 4 months of gentle use by my son as a practice amp, it developed a loud buzzing noise whenever an E note was played. This happens even at low volume.

After spending $20 to have it shipped to NYC for repairs, it came back exactly the same as I sent it. Still buzzes very loudly even at low volume. I would not possibley gig with this amp. Everyone would leave due to the anoying buzzing.

I was unhappy with Behringer's policy requiring the customer to pay the shipping costs to an authorized repair center for a product that was still within the warranty. The customer service manager would not budge from the policy. Since getting the amp back still not inworking condition, I sent the customer service manager a letter 2 months ago. To date I have not received a response.

I purchased the BX600 thru a 'friendly musician' mail order company for a practice / emergency back up amp. I played the BX600 for 15 seconds at medium volume and it broke down. I sent it back and ordered another BX600 and the same thing happened! I must admit that the amp sounded good and performed well for the 15 seconds. But I don't think I can afford enough of these amps that would be needed to get me thru a gig.

Packed full of features. Passive/Active inputs, stereo line in, effects loop, headphone jack, output jack, 4 band EQ with switchable Shape feature (changes shape of frequency curve).
I always leave the shape feature switched on with the dial between 2 and 4 oclock. It sounds a little thin and tinny without it. I like my bass sound bassy.
I use this amp for both rehearsal and gigging. I only play small venues with the occational bigger venue. The bigger venues either DI my bass to the PA through a separate DI box or use the built-in line out jack.

Using with a shitty fender p-bass copy. I have replaced the standard pickup with less-shitty squire affinity pickup.
Even with this shit setup I get an alright sound for what I am doing. That is, having fun playing at small local venues.
You have to tweak the EQ to get the sound you are looking for. This thing can kick out the lows, sometimes it gets too muddy for my liking though.
I thought the behringer was quiet until I had the pleasure of using a Peavey MKIV head through an EV 15inch speaker box. The behringer doesn't compare in tone or quietness. But its like comparing apples to oranges, not to mention the price difference.

It died after 2 weeks. Only used it for 2 rehearsals and 1 small gig before it died. I took it back to the shop I bought it from and they replaced it straight away. Had the replacement for 6 months now without a stuffing up.

Playing bass for only 1 year. Played guitar for 6.
I don't own any decent gear yet because I am a student with little to no money.
If it were stolen I would probably just hold out until I get the Behringer ULTRABASS BX3000T.
I love that it is smaller enough to fit into the boot of my car (along with my bass) and it can get quite loud for a 60 watter.
I chose to buy this amp due to price only. I didn't even listen to it before buying. I haven't been disapointed.
Just remember what you are buying when you hand over your AU$320, a cheap, no thrills bass amp. It will get you through rehearsals and some small gigs (if guitarist keeps his JCM800 down).
Based on this experience I am looking forward to trying out the Behringer ULTRABASS BX3000T. I hope it does as well as this amp.
