Features a 4 band EQ as well as distortion channel and octave effect, both not usually included on a bass amp. Comes with a footswitch. Headphone jack, and a lot of output for a 50 watt amp. Some say it's heavy, but at 45 lbs or so its not too bad. Also, maybe the best feature is the built in tuner on top. Very accurate, very convenient.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a knock off P-Bass, being that I'm a guitar i'm not too fussy about my bass. In all honesty, this amp sounds great. The 4 band EQ allows for a huge range of sounds, anything from jazz to rock. Even though this amp is made by Crate and it's solid state, I couldn't be happier with it. It sounds smooth, even at high levels and includes a cool octave effect. The distortion channel is absolute crap, it lacks sustain and tone all together. Using only the clean channel and the octave occasionally, I couldn't be happier with the sound quality. Also, rated at 50 watts this thing is LOUD, I doubt I would ever need to upgrade unless I played large shows. Perfect for small gigs, bars, etc.

Reliability : 9
Just got it, but the metal grate guarding the speaker and the overall construction looks sturdy.

I've been playing guitar for over 8 years and have always played a little bass. This is my first bass amp and I use a knock off P-Bass. Overall, I recommend this to anyone in the market for a good bass amp. At $130 with free shipping from musiciansfriend, I just had to have it and it was worth every penny. Smooth sounds, cool octave effect and built in tuner, footswitch, and a ton of output for a small combo. If it were lost or stolen I would definitely buy another, especially at this steal of a price. I love the 4 knob EQ as opposed to the usual 3, and for this price, you get a lot of volume, shakes my house. My band mate uses the Peavey TNT amp, the massive one that weighs a ton, but to be honest, this crate sounds just as good, produces enough volume for the type of gigs we do, and includes a tuner and an octave effect. Strongly recommended for beginners as well as anyone looking for a budget amp or a main bass amp in general. Besides the garbage distortion channel, this gets an A+.

This is a 2004 50 watt amp with a 12 inch speaker. The 4 band eq and clean and distortion channel will fit any style in the flippen universe. you can even mix the distortion and clean chanels. Its got a 1/4" headphone jack and aux in for a cd or mp3 player. Its got all I really need; Including a big sound. Only complaint: I wish you could mix the distortion and clean channels without using the foot controller.

Sound Quality : 10
Ive got a 2004 American Highway Persision bass with the stock vintage pickups. The sound stays very clean, you get a little fuzz from the speaker if you have the high turned way up. It's got a few recomended presets in the manual for rock, jazz, big fuzz, ect... The sound stays clean at high volumes and with an effects. Im using the Bass V-amp which makes some spanktastic sounds on this amp for an incredible price.

Reliability : 10
This thing is not going to brake. It ways 47 pounds and the nobs and steel speaker cover are frikin indistrucktable. I would definitly feel confidint taking this on a gig without a backup.

I started playing in 2002. this is my second amp and i own a 2004 US highway 1 Percision Bass, a Bass V-amp, a Squier Stratocaster, a Fender Frontman B 15 watt, and a Fender Frontman G 15 watt. If it were stolen or lost I would definitly consider this amp again, But if i had the money i would probly get the Mesa Boogie Walk-A-Bout Scout. I played this one against a 100 watt Backline, and a 30 watt SWR. The SWR was too quiet. The 100 watt Backline definity wouldn't have been worth the extra 40 dollars, it only sounded a little better, only had a one year warrenty when the Crate has a 5 year warrenty, and the speaker couldn't hold up for any mildly loud volumes.

This is a great amp, recomend buying it, did me great as a first amp, however i just brought a laney G300 head and upgrading to a 2x10" + 1x15" cab, something to shake the entire house while jamming

2004 Model. 50 watts 1x12 combo. I use this for practice and acoustic jams. Distortion (footswitch) and octave in addition to 4 band eq. Works for upright too if buffer preamp is used, the input impedance of the Crate is 220kohms, most piezo pickups are 1meg. CD jacks in and headphone jack. Top panel integrated tuner is cool, too. Features are good for this price range.

Sound Quality : 8
Great for home practice or coffee house type stuff. I do not use the distortion or octave controls. Quite loud for the size and rated power. 5-string sounds respectable, speaker upgrade would definitely improve sound. No noise to speak of, eq is well voiced for the amp. I went to Guitar Sucker looking for an SWR LA 12 or Ampeg combo and walked out with this one. Louder, cheaper, and better sounding than SWR. Similar sound to Ampeg, which makes sense considering they are basically the same company.

Never had any experience with Crate.

Playing bass for 15 years. In the past I have not really used a practice amp, I just play through the stereo. I have owned many different amps, though. If it were lost I would buy it again, I might even buy the 25 watt model. This is a fabulous amp as long as you don't ask it to do more than it can handle, ie, try to use it with a loud drummer. While I have other amps that will do this job much better, I think this amp works well with percussion/congas and lite jazz drums, do not expect it to compete with distorted guitars and rock drums.

New line of Bass Amps from Crate for 2004.
Features a clean and distortion channel (blendable with foot switch), Octave feature (footswitch allows remote selection)
50W solid-state combo provides enough juice and solid sound for $$
Features include free 2 button footswith, headphone jack, external speaker out level and master control for each channel.
Works great in practice setting (multiple guitars or one and drums)
I wish it had an XLR line out but for the $$ I can't complain
BT100 does have one)

Sound Quality : 8
*I am using my 60s Jazz Bazz and am able to get a large variety of sounds.
Blending distorion and clean allowed amp tp mimic some decent tube sounds
I play mostly jam/classic rock but do delve in to metal or all the way to folk depending on who I am jamming with
DISTORTION IS FAT
good included suggested settings

Reliability : No Opinion
Crate is known for durabiliity so I doubt there will be any problems.
American customers receive 5 year warranty ( only on amps purchased in US so none for me but good to know!)
It is so new that I can't offer a grade but suspect it will last along time. It looks to be well constructed.

I emailed them to offer thoughts on positive experience with product...received email reply VERY fast!
St. Louis Music Company is parent company (Ampeg, Alvarez Crate, Crate Audio etc.)
Solid comapny with great rep!

I have been playing for about 11 years or so. I have had MANY different amps and basses (typical bass player with G.A.S.)
However this is a keeper. I feel it is better then my Yorkville BM50 and is similar to my Fender Bassman 60 at 1/2 the price!!
IF you have any need for distorion check it out!
There will be a 220 watt head out later this year for those in need of big sound. ALso have a 15,25, 100 and 200 watt combo versions to fit most requirements.
Overall an 8 but with cost taken into consideration it si a 10 so I will go for a 9 and split the difference.
CHECK IT OUT!
my basses include 60s J Bass, US P-Bass and a couple of gorgeous Japanese Fender Basses
