Fender BXR 300 C HEAD ONLY, Made in late 80's Early 90's, Two Inputs ,No channel switching, No Effects loop, No Headphone Jack,For What This Head Is, I don't feel it needs any more features than the ones it has...

Sound Quality : 9
Usually used with active Fender Basses, Bartolini Pickups, Used for Heavy Metal and Classic Rock, Very Quiet even when cranked, The Amp is one of the very warmest and plush sounding solid state heads I've ever plugged into, does not distort through a 2x15 EV cab unless an overdrive pedal is used.

Reliability : 10
I bought this head alone removed from the original cab, it had been flogged and beaten beyond words, the Bass knob is broken off, there is cardboard on one end, it was an absolute ROACH ! brought it home, cleaned it up, and it works flawlessly, very few heads can take this kind of abuse and still work, I give it a TEN for reliability !

Customer Support : 8
Fender has great customer and product support, you won't need them concerning this amp unless you drop it in a lake.

I've been playing Bass for 25 plus years, this head is awesome, it has allot of power for 300 watts, I usually play Fender Basses through it, it will power an Ampeg 8x10 at volume where most amps of the same wattage fall flat, if it were stolen I would get on E-bay and hunt another one down because the tone is as warm as any solid state amp could be, I love how round the sound is, and the midsweep gives you tons of control over the overall tone, I advise useing a pre-amp like a tonebone or sansamp to sculpt things to your exact content, the only other amps with this kind of reliability are the Peaveys, and personaly they don't sound quite as good.

This amp is an old model from the early 80ies. 4 knobs to choose your sound, a bass boost and a treble boost. A built-in delta comp : to my mind, this one is only here to protect the speaker. This speaker is a 200W one and the BXR delivers 300...

Never turn the volume knob higher than 4-5...

2 inputs (passive/active), Preamp out/in.

Obviously, this amp is built for Rock/Blues/Reggae with its Eminenece 15". Not the dream of slappers...But you can switch another cab if you wanna slap. (2x10) ?

Great power for rehearsal or mediums gigs.

Sound Quality : 9
I seldom use it with a Cort C4 Artisan (active pickups) and more often with a Squier Precision Vintage Modified (Seymour Duncan pikup).
The sound with the PB is really good. I put the knobs on "0", with the bass enhancer "on". Just a comp between the amp and the bass. It's the Fender sound. What else ? Built for Rock. That's the music I play.

Reliability : 10
This amp is 25 years old and it has never been open. Thousands gigs, thousands miles and still at the top. Made in USA.

If it were stolen, i would try to find another one. I love this incredible sound, warm and powerful.

What I hate : the weight...(about 135 lbs)

I compared it to Hartke,SWR, and Ibanez combos. It remains the best choice for me. Perhaps an Ampeg can be so good to me.

I bought this amp new in the early 90s. It's the "red knob" version, analog EQ and the "DeltaComp" feature, which I don't use much. It is certainly powerful enough for me for up to medium sized venues.
It came without casters, and though I've tried several different sets, I settled on a two-wheel dolly with balloon tires, because no casters are worth a crap on gravel parking lots.

Sound Quality : 7
I have 2 Fender Jazz basses ('72 and '84) and a Hamer Cruise5, all with stock passive pickups. This amp suits my style, which includes country, blues, and vintage rock. I've never used distortion on bass.
I never was overly pleased with the tone, but once I bought a little tube preamp I was and still am very happy with it.

Reliability : 10
I've used this amp for around 20 years, and never had a problem until it started fading out on me one night a couple of years ago. The trouble turned out to be cold solder joints in the head, and I think I caused that by playing outdoor gigs on the beach; all that moist, salty air also rusted all the nuts holding the input jacks. Cleaning and reflowing the solder joints and replacing the rusty nuts fixed it right up.

No warranty repairs, no interface with Fender. I think the warranty was for a year.

I walked onto a stage for the first time in 1962. Other gear includes a Behringer 450W head, and a 4X10 cab, as well as a Gallien-Krueger 200W head. I still do some guitar with my Baldwin Baby Bison and my Fender Twin Reverb.
If this amp were stolen or lost, I'd keep what I have and use that. One negative is its weight, and another is that it's a combo as opposed to head and cab. However, when I bought it, I wasn't at an age where that matters so much; I could pick it up and carry it up the stairs if I needed to, but I can't anymore.

I have one of the older versions of this amp. Gain, 4 band EQ (sweeping mids), Hi boost, Low Boost, built-in compression switchable compression, and master volume. Also, extension speaker jack in the back. 300 watts and a 15-inch speaker. Pretty good balance of very useful features, without the extra frills of later models like the 7-band graphic EQ and built-in chorus effect. As others have said, it is very heavy. I haven't weighed it myself, but the person I bought it from said 78 lbs. Luckily it does have handles on the sides. This amp is very loud on it's own, and I hooked it up via the ext. jack to an ampeg 8x10, and it was so loud! you get it pumping through the 15 and the 8x10, and it's amazing.

Sound Quality : 9
I play in a band that plays a mix of fast punk, and slow doomy isis-influenced metal. we tune to B standard, so it's very heavy. I play a Fender P-bass that's been enhanced with a Seymour Duncan Basslines MusicMan replacement pickup and 3-band EQ. No pedals, just straight into the amp. The amp definitely handles a full range, and just kept up with the rest of the band on it's own. I didn't want to put to much stress on the 15, though, so I hooked it up to the ampeg 8x10, and just got huge. If you EQ everything right and push it hard enough, it does break up nicely and overdrive just a little.

Reliability : 9
This amp is already about 15 years old, and functions perfectly. No missing knobs, everything sounds good. No tubes to replace, of course. I wouldn't worry about having a backup, although it's always nice to have a good DI box.

When these amps sold new, they were one of the best deals on the market. Now,if you can find one used, you'll probably get an even better deal. Young guys who are only familiar with Fender's current line of bass amps will be very impressed with these. Their new line is total crap, but these beasts are warriors. My guitarist was blown away by how much better it sounded than his ampeg head through the 8x10.
I got a great deal on this amp, because people have just never really taken it seriously. If you need good tone (similar to a Gallien Krueger)and big volume on a budget, these are perfect.

This USA made amp is a set and go amp. No unnecessary fiddling needed just huge fat tone perfect for all genres of music save for maybe Jazz fusion. It's got everything you need and nothing you don't. Two knocks for excessive weight.

Sound Quality : 10
Where I play my Geddy Lee Jazz or my Ibanez Roadstar II P-bass through it they sound great. It runs quietly and with no cabinet buzzing and suits all but maybe jazz fusion styles of music. Then again, if one were good enough to play fusion in the first place I bet they could coaxe a suitable sound out of this rig. Fender has a knack for making S.S. amps that sound pretty damn good just the way they are from the acoustic amps on up to amps like this one.

Reliability : 10
This amp is fifteen years old and still performs wonderfully and hasn't shaken itself apart yet. What do you think?

I wish my Workingman 4004 was this easy to get great tone out of. The BRX puts my (at the time considered to be a high end amp Tube Works) amp to shame. These amps can be purchased on the used market for a song which makes them perfect for the budding bassist to the gigger who needs a practice amp at the rehersal space to the occasional musician.

Features on the BXR 300 are pretty good for something this inexpensive. My early 90's model has Volume, Bass, Treble, Mid and Frequency knobs, as well as high and low boosts and a built-in compressor which works wonders with your sound. It has two imputs, an effects loop and a parallel out if ever you want/need to jack it into something bigger. 300 W.

I play rock, blues, some jazz, and I don't feel I'll ever need a fancier amp than this. If you're playing a bass with halfway decent features, you don't need graphic EQ or two separate cabs. That's just nitpicking.

Sound Quality : 9
This amp is a goddamn monster. I usually play through the BXR's single 15" speaker with my G&L L-2000 (twin humbucker pickups), instrument volume at 3/4, bass cranked, active preamp on, amp volume at about 4 and that's the loudest I'll ever need to be for 75% of my gigs. I've played venues that seat 250-300 people using these settings, not even going through the board and been absolutely fine. I often make use of a distortion pedal and a Wah and the BXR can handle them no problem.

I always get a good sound from this amp. I have used it for recording, multiple gigs, even had it miked at a show or two and I am always able to get the sound that I want.

Reliability : 10
I have had to make all sorts of makeshift repairs on this amp because I bought it second hand and the previous owner left it in pretty ratty shape.

As such, it has never let me down in any way.

I've never had to deal with Fender.

Overall Rating : 10
I've witheld 10's in the Features and Sound categories because while it is a terrific amp in its own right, this is not a top-of-the-line amplifier.

That said, unless you're playing stadium gigs, you probably won't need anything better or fancier than the BXR 300-C. The sounds is consistently great, versatile enough for most types of playing, the features are relatively few but incredibly handy (and, frankly, totally sufficient), and the amp is remarkably loud for its size. I never knew that one 15" speaker could belt out such a punchy sound.

The one problem with this amp, and I don't know what category this would best fall under, is that it WEIGHS A TON. Do not kid yourself. You cannot carry this big mama by yourself unless you are one of those rippled juice monkeys that seems to live in every gym I've ever visited. The BXR has small, inconvenient wheels and handles at either side which could used some serious padding.

Regardless, for 400 bucks (mind you, I haggled the guy down), you can't expect a better amplifier.

Recently purchased this used BXR 300C unit. Believe it was built in the early 1990 time period. I play mostly classic rock, blues and jazz. Amp is basically "no frills", yet is versatile enough for what I play. Has 2 channels and one effects loop. I use both features. Also has "delta comp" compression/limiter which I also do use and iut works well! Has only a vilume control, mid , treble, bass, high and low bioosts, etc....your basic control set-up. Yet, has enough features to make it very functional for me! I would love to have the graphic EQ that the BXR 200 model has however! HAs 300 watts of power; more than enough loudness and power to keep upo with the other band memebers. No problem here! GHood solid state sound that still has warmth and growl to please the discriminating bassist.

Sound Quality : 10
I use 2 different Fender Jazz basses with this...one has DeMarzio pickups; the other has Seymour Duncan Basslines. BOTH have been converted to active electronics with on-board preamps. I also use an Ibanez Soundgear GSR700 4-string Bass that also has active electronics and on-board preamp. Have a Kramer bass with Aluminum neck and headsstock as well. This amp sounds GREAT with any and all of my basses. Sounds different depending upon which bass I use, so I CAN get totally different sounds from it depending upon the instrument I use. I do not get any distortion even at high volumes. The speaker is in great shape. Overall, it really sounds terriffic in my opinion!! HAs a nice deep growl, yet warm tube-like sound.

Reliability : 10
I purchased this amp to replace a blown Fender Bassman 200 Solid State newer style amp that I had purhcased used and had repaired immediately after purchase. Yet, it still blew the driver transistors a second time at moderate volume levels. My repairman/technician told me that the older BXR series were better made and better built units. So, I went looking for one and found this one in very nice condition. Although it is very heavy to lift, it seems to be indestructable. From everything I have read and heard about the BXR 300C, it IS indestructable and will not break down in most cases. I would not hesitate to gig without a backup as I truly feel confident that this amp is dependable in spite of its age. I might consider having it checked over by my technician at some point, howver, just becuase of its age.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have never had to deal with Fender customer support. I am sure that they would be just fine, but I really can not offer any honest information, nor any opinion on this topic.

Overall Rating : 10
I have beehn playing guitar for over 40 years. I have been playing bass guitar seriously for about 5 years. I own over 20 guitars and 5 bass guitars. A good mix of acoustics from 3 Martins, to Epiphones and Gibdson Les Pauls, an SG, a Gibson ES335 TDC Stereo 1967, Fender Stratocaster Ultra, Stratocaster 12-string, etc. Many to choose from. I also own several Fender tube amps. I prefer Fender over all others for tone, appearance and reliability. Although there are many good amps out there, I simply am a Fender person. I just love the sound I get from them. I used to ONLY go with tube models, but due to failing health, I can no longer lift them, so I have been going now with Solid Sate units as they are just slightly lighter in weight. Still, I will never sell my Fender Twin Reverb amp (1965), nor my 1980 Fender Studio Bass amp, as they are AWESOME sounding!! Overall this used BXR 300C is truly a FANTASTIC VALUE and if lost or stolen, I would want to replace it immediately!! I love the sound and power it has. I do wish it had a graphic EQ, however (like the BXR 200 has)!

Well my amp is actually a BXR 300 R (rack modell)but since I use the 15" Fender cab it's just like the BXR 300 C combo.
I think it's made in the mid 90's. Anyway it is fitted with the red knobs.
I use it in a rock cover band with my Jazz bass.
It has only one channel and low and high inputs. It has an effects loop but no line out, and thats bad. Of cource you can use the effects send as a line out but then again you have no effects loop!
It's only fitted with one volume instead of a gain control and master volume. That is not good either. I never use the built in compressor since I have the EBS MultiComp (witch I also use to control the gain).
The 300w (or 150w with the one 15" cab) is sufficient for all gigs where I have to use my own equipment.

Sound Quality : 3
The Jazz bass have Fender Vintage pickups and they are very hot. I had some problem matching the input volume since the amp has no gain control. Now that I have the EBS MultiComp pedal I'm able to manage the input volume. Anyway, the amp ought to have a gain knob.
The sound with only the 15" speaker cab was not convinceing. It's kind of "boomy" sounding. I added a 1x12" cab and the sound improved a lot. I think the speaker Fender uses is not top quality by any means.
I don't use the built in compressor but it may work fine as a limiter and for speaker protection.
I have had slight difficulties in finding a usable eq setting without the sound being either thin or boomy.

Reliability : 9
The amp seems to be very reliable. I havn't had no problems whatsoever and I use it up to 4-5 h at a time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
There hasn't been any need for customer support. I bought it used and I found every thing I need like the user manual online.

Overall Rating : 5
I have played bas for over 30 years and have a Gallien Krueger MB200 combo that I use with my acoustic bassguitar.
My honest opinion is that I wouldn't by anotherone if I lost it.

I'm not sure of the year, mid 90's I guess. 300 watts, fx loop, "Dynacomp", basic eq, 2 inputs, 2 speaker out.

Sound Quality : 1
I refer to this amp as my "Rubix Cube" because the more you noodle with it.....the more frustrated you get. It seems to have plenty of power, but it's not a warm sounding amp.......it is the dryest, most sterile amp I've owned. In fairness, I am coming from an Ampeg SVT rig, before that another Ampeg, SWR, even my Hartke sounded better.
I needed an amp, and it was cheap. However, it does the job, and has never failed, I think a 4x10 cab would help. I use it with an Ampeg 15"-10" combo cab and a 1983 P-Bass ('57 Reissue).

Reliability : No Opinion
Good so far, no real issues with it. It has been removed from it's case (if it had one) and has never been racked, looks like it's been through hell but it powers up every time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used Customer Support for this unit, but as I remember Fender was good to deal with. Most of my Fender gear is older than myself and can't be beat.

Overall Rating : 5
I have been playing guitar for nealrly 30 years, bass for around 10 yrs or so. I picked this amp/cab up for some fill-in work with a local band and made my money back the first weekend. If it were stolen I would probably miss the cab, pitty the thief, and replace it with another Ampeg or something superior.

I dont know when this amp was made but I would gues around 93-97 and its taken a real beating.....and survived with only a few scratches and a minor connection input problem that i need to get fixed
2 channel volume treb mid mid freq and bass nobs
Heavy as all hell

Sound Quality : 8
this amp produces alot of hard hitting lows but lacks clarity in mids and high at high volumes....not a problem....i got a gallien Krueger 210t cab on to and i use the 2nd output on the back of the bxr 300 to power it and it sounds loud and clear with my ghetto ibanez sr300 and Kawai 5 string
