I bought this amp three years ago in a pawn shop (in East Texas, if you were curious).
I paid $120.
I would say it was in great condition.
I guess it was made sometime in the nineties. It has what you need, but not what you don't. It has 2 inputs, Volume, Mid Notch,Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, Treble, Line Out, Head Phones, A stereo input which could be useful in certain and/or bizarre situations, and an effects loop which, though I seldom use pedals, is a pretty cool feature. It's supe loud for what it is and I like the Sound, but I wish the speaker was smaller. The amp Is plenty loud, but with a 15" speaker it doesn't compete with drums in a bedroom. That's bad if you're a teenager without a garage. However, if you give the big speaker room to breathe, It gets real loud. It's small size makes perfect for impromtu oudoor gigs. I've easily drowned out the guitar and drums. Now that I have bigger things with smaller speakers, this amp might not see many more professional gigs, but I will never part with it because it sounds great and it's a Fender.

A very versitile combo. I prefer the way it sounds over my Ampeg SVT 350H. Though it is solid state, I really like the way this amp sounds. My sound never calls for low mids, but I could see where that feature could be effective. I play a Fender Jazz Bass and a fretless knock off (which you can look at if you go to fretlessbass.com and search the gallery for "Essex" mine's the the beat-to-hell sunburst). I play funk, fusion, jazz, and FUNK! Yeah, I said it twice. I like a real textured sound with strong mids. I'm also the biggest Jaco wannabe in North Dallas.

My current rig is an all tube Fender PA 135 from the seventies to a GK 410RBH and I love it, though I do miss the flexible mids on the BXR. The Ampeg is great... if you really like Ampeg. I happen to like Fender. My biased opinion is that this is very good combo for it's class. It can work with any type of music. However, I have to stress that I wish it had two 12"s. I just might customize I one day. My big stuff is great, but the BXR is really easy to grab and throw in the car.

My BXR 60 is almost 3 years old. It has two inputs, a "mid notch" button, volume, 4 band eq, "tape in", an effects loop, headphones out, and line out. 60 watts into a 12 inch speaker. The "tape in" jack is pretty useless if you have a stereo (which I do) in the same room to use for practicing. I love the fact that the combo has an effects loop, pretty rare for a fairly small, 60 watt amp.

This amp is LOUD. I have used this amp at several jazz gigs with a full band in 200-300 capacity rooms and even a large shopping mall. I always play with the "mid notch" button depressed, it seems to warm up the sound a little bit. When played at low volumes the amp sounds great, but when cranked the sound can suffer a little bit, after all, its really only a 60 watt amp.

I've been playing bass for almost five years and now currently play a spector euro 4 through an ampeg stack. I still use the BXR for rehearsals with my band and its fine for that application. Basically, the BXR is great for practices and small gigs, but if you need lots of volume AND tone, i would think about a different amp.

Made in the USA. Made in 2000 I think. 60 watts, 12 inch speaker, two inputs. Four band EQ (Lows, Low-Mids, High-Mids, Highs), mid notch button, Delta Comp limiter, headphone jack, effects loop, tape-in jacks, line out jack. It's about 50 pounds. It's really solid and VERY versatile. Has a lot of fetures and great sound for such a small price.

I used a Fender Squire P-bass, Ibanez sr485 and Ibanez aeb45 acuostic/electric. All sounded great. I play rock and metal. However, this amp can do any style. This amp is LOUD! Great powerful amp for the price.

I have been playing for about two years. I recently stopped playing bass and started playing guitar. I play rock and metal. I like everything from Grunge rock like Alice in Chains/Jerry Cantrell, Nickelback, UPO, Tantric, Default, Seether, STP, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Dust For Life. Also, Heavy and southern dirt rock like Down, Pantera Zakk wylde's BLS, Pride and Glory, Book of Shadows, COC, Brand New Sin. some Goth and industrial like NIN and Type O negative. Some Nu-Metal like Stereomud, Boy Hits Car, Sinch and Full Devil Jacket. These just some of the bands I listen to. However, this amp can do it all.
This amp is LOUD! Great powerful amp for the price. I have never heard a better amp for the price. Dependable.

Features are detailed in previous reviews... The features that I find very useful are the dual input jacks and tape in RCA-type jacks... I did not find many other bass amps in the power and price range that offered these features...

I play all of my guitars through this amp used to pre-amplify my CRATE Bottom with 2 10" Woofers, midrange and horn tweeter which fills in the higher range... With this setup I get outstanding results with my bass guitars, electric guitars and even a couple of accoustic electric models... Therefore I consider it extremely flexible...

I bought this amp used and have thrown alot at it since without any problems... It came to me with one of the input jacks non-functioning, but haven't needed two yet so it hasn't been fixed... I would not have any problem lugging this amp from gig to gig as it seems to be very rugged...

This is a REVISIT to the BXR-sixty. it was my first amp, I was also the second review, three years ago, on this model as of this writing. anyway I was hoping to save some of you new amp researchers some trouble like I went through. This was my first amp, then I bought a AMPEG B-50R (1x12x50WATT, 45Lbs) NOT loud enough for drummer, then a AMPEG B328 (2x8x150WATT, 55Lbs?) loud enough for drummer in basement sized room, but NOT good for outdoor use without walls to reinforce your bass waves (rear ported), then I bought a SWR WM10 w/extension cab (33Lbs + 31Lbs front ported) essentially a 10combo + 10 x 100watts with the extension, it was the best and loudest for me up to that point, front ported so it was better for outside, but not REALLY really loud, just 'heard' outside, if you don't have the extension its almost good enough for basement practice as a 1x10x80Watt Don't be afraid to crank the bass knob! when it starts to fart, turn it down a little. I really bought the WM-10 because of portability and it works PRETTY good for all around situations, but if you need to support a big room or play with a loud band, like I was about to, I had to upgrade again, MY CURRENT SET UP is an SWR Bass 350 head (silver face, 20-25Lbs in rack), not the 'X' version (don't waste your money, get closeout pricing on the 350 regular), I think buying one used or a 'redface' model is probably NOT a bad ides if you want to save money. I bought SWR's Bass Monitor 12 (250watt handling, 33Lbs each) and they are back by 'popular' demand, good choice SWR. again choosing portability over speaker size, just use more speakers, I've got two bass monitor 12's and depending on the size of the gig I bring one or two cabs.
I don't know if this helped, but felt like sharing my growing pains. the next step for me? I might switch to EDEN (active EQ?, heavier sounding tones) or I MIGHT get a 1x15, but again I'm getting older and have to carry my own stuff, so I try to stay lightweight (under 50Lbs each). I am curious what the SWR Baby Baby Blue Combo sounds like (1x10 pro-combo, 120watts, 45Lbs) But I fear I'd need an extension cab.
FINAL WORD (BUYING TIPS FOR THE PRUDENT), if your picky about sound, like lot of volume and not always sure you want to carry alot (over 50lbs each) then here are some suggested shopping guidelines: 1. Save your money and buy top of the line "pro" equipment from whatever company you decide. I'd suggest Eden, SWR, AMpeg. 2. Get at LEAST 350 watts, sometime I wish I had more, but this thing CAN give you an ear-ache in smaller rooms if you want an ear-ache. 4. what about EFFECTS? come on your a bass player! <grin> o.k., maybe a compressor to even out slap bass style or sustain your notes, I'm getting a Tech21/sansamp BASS COMPACTOR soon, its a compressor with bass and treble EQ. I think I'll actually use this pedal! I gave away my delay/reverb, my Chorus and traded in my bass limiter/sustainer (don't think it sounds like the compactor). 4. If your always complaining about price, you'll be complaining about your sound too because you will probably spend too little. Bass takes MORE power, Bigger magnets and Bigger speakers than guitar, so expect to spend more on an amp! My current rig cost me $1300 (amp, rack, 2cabs) about $600 for my guitar. IN THE LONG RUN I'VE SPENT MORE MONEY TRYING TO SAVE MONEY. everytime I 'upgrade' I lost money somewhere depreciation, trade-in low-balling, etc. BUY PIECES unless you are SURE you only want a combo and then again BUY TOP OF THE LINE, MOST WATTS INTO 8OHMS, AND BE WILLING TO CARRY IT ALL IN ONE PACKAGE, they usually weigh more or as much as a good quality cab.
Write me if you have questions, I'd like to help!

Bought used, don't know the age. I'm old school - plug in and play. Specs have been covered, I doubt I'll ever use the "tape in" RCA plugs as I have a stereo for that. The 12" speaker really has some presence about it, not earth shaking, but holds it's own in a practice environment. I haven't gigged with it yet ( I have a BXR200 for that) but I think it would do well in a "tavern" size venue.

I use a Rickenbacker 4003 through it mostly. The amp has a pretty wide range of tones, you just have to play with it. I find it interesting that there is no port in it - even the BXR25 is ported but that doesn't seem to affect a 4-string anyway, I have found my sound on it. It is a little noisy,, but start playing and gee the noise goes away. I haven't had any distortion problems - maybe I just don't push it hard enough.

I haven't had this amp very long, but from my experience with the BXR200 I think it's safe to say this amp will last a long time. If I do take it to a gig I will probably do so without a backup (it's a Fender) as long as I know the place isn't too big for it.

This amp is going to suit my needs very well. I have a BXR200 for big jobs, it's hard to practice with the volume past 1. I bought the 60w for practice so I could turn it up to 1/2 and get a sound with a little "push" to it opposed to a "held back" sound that the 200w gives. The portability of the BXR60 is great. I can carry it with one hand. Nice long cord too. If this amp were to dissapear, I would want another one. I think me and this amp are going to be freinds for quite some time.

I'am currently using an epiphone thunderbird (by the way this bass kicks ass) and playing some punk rock with my band. For the time I have it, I'd never been able to find "the sound". But some nice sounds. The amp can go trought 2 guitars, drum. However, I'd want it more punchy. The problem can be solved by using a digitech bp200 by e.g. When using distortion, the amp blows you away: WOW! but only when used alone because if you play with you band you won't hear anything of what you're playing

my first bas was an epiphone i picked up used. when i upgraded from th amp that came with it to my bxr, i was blown away by the difference, but that doesn't say much.
i currently play with an american standard jazz bass through chorus, bass synth, tremolo pan, bass eq, flange, phase, touch wah and digital delay, all run through a noise suppressor to take out hum caused by the long effect chain. amp sounds great in practice, but it'd never gig with it unless we were playing through a reallly sweet P.A. in which case, it would be perfect.
it's size belies it's tone though, as i have received many compliments on my sound. i like it so much, that now that my playing warrants a larger amp, i'm going for a bxr200. this will remain in our jamspace though. with my standard settings (volume 1 oclock, bass on full, low mid 12 oclock, high mid 12 oclock, treble 2-3oclock) i can shake the walls and still get nice tone on high notes, and there is an amazing degree of tone change by fiddling with my guitar tone and volume.

the silver rings on the insides of the input jacks have both come off, and have promptly been lost. a small price to pay considering the amp has had an otherwise flawless 5 years of playing. and to be honest, it's taken a shitkicking. a rip on the black covering on the side is the only visible scar, but soundwise, it still remains perfect. those are the only two things keeping me from giving it a 10

but if the input rings fall off, KEEP THEM!!

It has a basic preamp with two input jacks, allowing for more versitle use. The effects loop and access to post-pre and pre-power amps are a good addition, allowing you to add it as an extra boost to any rig you use. Still, there are many other amplifiers that are comparable in price, and that have extra channels and similar power ratings.

I've used an epiphone p-style bass, a mexican fender p-bass with emg's, and an american standard jazz through this amp. friends of mine have also used other fenders and god knows how many other kinds of basses through it. truly, the best sound from this amp will come from a fender guitar, as has been my experience. the fender basses seem to work better with this amp, and it can offer a nice spectrum of different sounds. the lower tone on this amp is mediocore at best, because it is not really a power-house amp. this amp is better in mid and somewhat higher bass tones, as the 12" speaker will cut into other noises, and not really give a large bass 'push.' the amp sounds pretty good for how big it is.
Reliability
:9
the only way i could give it a ten is if it gave me another 6 1/2 flawless years of service. this amplifier has not even once given me any sort of problem. the only minor thing that happened, and that does happen to most modern fender amps, is the conductive outer ring on the first input jack came off, but i reconnected it with some crazy glue (which i don't think mattered, as the prongs are supposed to make the electric connection). if you need reliablity in a practice or small stage amp, use a bxr 60.

my experiences with fender repair centers is good, as everything i have sent has been fixed properly. i cannot comment on the repair of the bxr 60, as it has not needed anything. fender could improve their support by offering to pay shipping on warranty repairs, though.

it's a great practice amp. it will compete with 10-40 watt guitar combos. i can't give anything a ten unless it does quite a bit more than it is supposed to. the bxr 60 does very well at what it is supposed to do.

Well, all the product specs. have been given in other reviews, so I'll only give my opinion here.
This is a decent beginner amp, it'll let you develop your sound and fool around, jam with friends and even perform at small venues (depending on what style music you're playing -- you won't overpower a marshall stack and rock/metal drummer).
However, it has quite a few limitations. First, as mentioned above, the maximum volume you can reach is NOT as loud as you'll ever want to play. Then the tone -- there are two issues relating to the tone: one, the tone's not perfect, it's sometimes a bit metallic and sometimes a bit flat. And when do you find a sound you like, it usually won't sound the same at the upper reaches of the amp's volume.
One last comment about the amp's features... within the scope of its use, it is a very full-featured amp, it's got two input jacks, an effects loop, etc. etc., so you can do pretty much anything when you're jamming with friends.
Sound Quality
:6
Many of my comments in Features are applicable here.
You can use this amp for quite a wide spectrum of styles... in that sense it's pretty much the "P-bass of amps."
This amp does suffer from some noise problems, but in any context in which you'd use it, the noise is probably not something you'd be too concerned with.
As stated above, there are an immense variety of sounds you can get from this amp, although often you may find it somewhat tinny/metallic or flat.

In summary, I'd say this is a decent small/medium combo amp that does what it does all right, but it could be considerably better. At the time that I bought it, this was the best deal I could find and it was my first amp. If I were in that same situation I would buy it again, but if I were to look for another combo amp in the same class, I'd probably buy a different brand (the competitors in this field are strong compared to Fender, IMO). If you want an amp to gig with regularly, look for something more powerful. So, in conclusion my opinion's not black or white, but in the grey area.. I wouldn't strongly recommend it, but it's an amp that has its uses and if it's what you're looking for, then buy it.
