Bi amp is nice. 380 watts is HUGE. This thing could tear my house down if I crank it up enough.

Sound Quality : 8
Loud, Flexible, Great modern sound.

Never had to deal with them, which is the best customer support I could ask for.

I'll keep this short. I like the amp ok, but sold it after a year or two.

Sound Quality : 5
I couldn't do everything I wanted with the EQ. Any tone I got was "sort of" what I wanted, but not really what I wanted. The boost just added a lot of noise in my opinion, but really adding anything of quality to the sound. The contour knob was nice but I only used it to get a "scooped" sound. I generally only use that sound for a few slap songs. Otherwise I just couldn't nail the right punchy, full, warm tone I wanted.

Reliability : 9
No problems, other than the DI was sometimes noisy in some situations.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
Pretty good for the money.

I bought this amp new in 2003, they were blowing them out as that the 700 RV II's had just come out. My Trace Elliot was dying a slow death and I had borrowed a friends RB 800 for a couple of gigs and was sold. The price on the RB700 was too good to pass up. This amp is very versatile. You can get everything from a "Flea-like" slap treble tone to a deep growling Rock tone. One channel, effects loop, bi-ampable. You really need to have a GK cab to use it in Bi-amp mode, as that I have an Ampeg, I have never tried it. I use this amp for practice as well as for live club gigs. I have never had any issues with it not being load enough, although I do run it into a 4 ohm cab to get maximum wattage.

Sound Quality : 8
I use an American P-Bass when I want a trebley tone and an Epiphone T-Bird for the deeper rock tone. It handles both basses beautifully. I also have a Carvin fretless and a Fender Acoustic that sound great as well. I mainly play rock and this amp works for me. I have had to fiddle around a lot with the controls to get the perfect tone I like, but it is achievable. The controls are very sensitive, meaning a little adjustment gives you a lot. I tend to play it clean and deep, but on occasion put some GK growl into it for a more aggressive sound. One thing I have learned with this amp is what a difference a quality cab makes. When I first purchased the GK I was playing it though an old Avatar 2x10 and a no name 1x15. I could never get the tone I wanted & was about to chuck the amp but decided instead to by an Ampeg 4x10HLF. What a world of difference, I now love this amp.

Reliability : 9
Never had a problem with and I have carted it around a lot. I always use it on gigs without a back up. The nice thing about solid state is that it is reliable.

I have not had to deal with them, thank God.

I have been playing for over 20 years and have gone through many amps. I like the versatility the GK offers, and the light weight (26lbs) If it were lost or stolen I would consider buying another one. I had planned to buy the RB 800, but could not beat the price of the RB 700. I like that the 700 is only 2 rack spaces as opposed to the 3 rack space of the 800. The 700 is lighter too!

Bought it new late 2001. I find that this amp is very versatile. The tuning mute is great, for switching basses and for tuning. Wish it had a second input, but doesn't bother me, just gave me motivation to build a powered a/b box, but that's a different story.
Effects loop is useful, and the tuner out is too. 380 watts @ 4 ohms, 240 @ 8 ohms... also has a 50 watt @ 8 ohms for those highs. Neutrik speakon connects or standard 1/4" powered outs, two each. front has direct out (no need for direct boxes anymore) w/ level control and ground lift switch. Also 4 band eq, contour, presence (if you can work this it sounds extra great), master volume, high volume (for biamped mode), high cut button, crossover button, and the most important Boost knob (that's what gives it that great GK tone). It's not enough power really but i'm not sure that i will ever have enough so i think i will just settle for this.

I play a Zon Sonus 5 Custom w/ a high "C" instead of a B, a kawai 4 string, a dean fretless hollowbody 4, and a bass that i made out of some old parts. I've played just about everything from Pop to Rock, Country to Metal, but what it really shines at is Jazz. This baby sings. The highs are clear and the lows are tight. IT's hard to get a bad tone out of this, even if you wanted to. I played a show with a band with a terrible bass player. He borrowed my rig and was getting pissed cause it sounded too good and you could hear his mistakes. Never knew anyone else get pissed over a amp that sounded too good but hey!
Never was very noisy, There was some hiss when i first got it, but the high cut pretty much got rid of that and i'm now certain it was the electricty at the practice space cause i don't get it much any more. No real distortion noticed ever until recently, i'm taking it in on saturday to see about getting it fixed but it sounds like a short to me.

Reliability : 8
Never had a problem, until recently (see above), i would play a gig without a back up anytime. doesn't matter most places i play have a decent PA so i can go straight in. No work has ever been done on it and it's been treated pretty bad so i have no doubt that whatever is wrong with it has been caused by this.

Customer Support : 7
Called customer support once to get a new set of rack ears. over zealous band mate threw out the box with the ears still in it. not the best service but definately not bad. The warranty is two years. never had anything done so can's speak to that.

I've been playing bass for 8 years. I play this through the GK 210RBH cab, i use a korg rack mount tuner, an aleisis comp, and an old peavey 31-band eq. I own a stack of effects, i use them, they amuse me. Also several acoustic guitars, and a telecaster. If it were stolen or something i would not nessicarily get this again, but i would probably get the 1001, Same features more watts.
I like the tone, it suits my style great and seems to do well with all of my gear. I checked several different amps out that buddies of mine owned and then played ever amp at guitar center three times, once with a fender jazz, once with a warick, and then came back with my zon to make sure. They did not have this particular one but had the 800RB so i went to a buddy of mine who was an endorser of GK at the time so i played his and loved it.

My GK was made in 2002, and I am the only ownder. I play it through a 2002 SWR goliath III (sorry GK, love the amp sound... couldn't stand the cabs)
My style is very variable. In a past band, we were a mix of rock, blues, funk, and pretty much anything with a groove. This amp pretty much MADE my signature sound. If you all don't know, it's a solid state 380 watt @ 4ohm with a seperate 50 watt @ 8ohm amp to drive the tweeter horn on a biamped system (240 watts @8ohm). Direct outs, 5/4 string bass switch (one of the GREATEST things ever, at 4 it is the same sound as a RB800, with it in, you bump the low end envelope), 4 band EQ, mid contour, separate woofer tweeter outs (for your biamping), built in solid state overdrive. I've balanced out and created my sound due to all of these things.
Just realize, it's a relatively small amp (I use the 240 watt @8 ohm). You try to put out too much, you are going to get some fuzz. If you are playing in anything larger than a small club, get a seperate amp.

Sound Quality : 9
My main bass is a 2002 spector 6 with upgraded bartolini 5.4 harness and batolini pickups run at 18volts.
This is a fantastic sounding amp for it's size. I've used it both live (where it shakes the house) and in the studio. Over about 3/5ths of the main volume, you will eventually get some fuzz. It's not too bad, but it isn't as clean as it can be. Just remember, you have small amp, don't drive it too hard, or as I said, get a seperate power amp.

Reliability : 7
This amp is very reliable... but I had a problem. At the beginning of a show, the first note... it busted on me. I had no clue what happened.. The power, just wouldn't go up.. I had to use my practice amp with a power amp for shows... I was sad. As it turns out... it was just a fuse... but replacing that was another story.

Customer Support : 8
My initial warrenty was with Mars Music... and you all know what happened to that..
To get it serviced is a pain. There just isn't an authorized service area anywhere near me. I had a bitch of a time finding out what was wrong. Eventually, I just e-mailed GK, and they told me how to fix what they thought was the problem (the service center I spoke to on the phone was trying to convince me that it was a blown power supply). I changed the fuse (which is internal, and a pain to change) and now my baby is back. I give the 8 because 2 people at GK e-mailed me back with answers within 24 hours. That is service... their auth centers lowered it down.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for about 10 years now (I am getting old). I'm not going to list all my equipment, cause that would go on forever. I put this up for comparison with an SWR 350, Ampeg SVT 3 pro and an eden (the small one...). I like this sound better... it was easier to manipulate. The built in OD helps, and being a 6 string player... the 4/5 sting switch did the deal. The only thing I would like it to have, and I told GK, is an externally accessable fuse... I would like some more power (like 700 watts @ 8ohm) at the same price.. 1 million $s, and a few other things... but that won't happen. If you are looking for a great sounding amp for small places... or a great sounding pre-amp that can be used as an amp in small place... this IS the way to go (BTW, the RB1001 is the exact same but with more power).

I bought this amp about 2 years ago.And i'm so glad i did. What a great amp.I can get any sound i want, from hard hitting rock to smooth blues and jazz.pop-funk slap is no problem, with the user friendly active controls, you can dial in what you want.I've gigged alot in the last year, from small clubs to outside venues. This amp has all the power i could ever use.Belive me i've rattled a few walls and windows.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a 4-string p- bass w/actives.A 5-string yamaha passive. And the one i usually play a 6-string washburn w/actives.And they all sound great.I can dial-in the sound i need.Though the amp is a little noisy through the horn of my 4x10 cab with the highs turned up.But overall sounds great with my 15 and 4x10 cab.set-up I think i could blow these up before this amp would ever distort.

Reliability : 10
I've had no problems with this amp what so ever. And never had to worry about a back-up.I've talked to other bass players who own all years of g.k.amps,and have had no problems with theirs.Just normal servicing.

Customer Support : 9
I havn't dealt with the company,so i can't say how their customer service is.I did misplace my manuel, and got a copy of it off treir website.free!I belive they have authorized service centers all over.
