I've been gigging for 20 years now. this is easily the best all around amp I've played. very clean, punchy at low AND very loud volume settings.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an old 87' peavy Foundation with a hot rod active EQ and a Vector Electric Standup Bass. I play big band jazz, small ensemble jazz but mostly in a Rock/Blues band. THe GK handles the electric and standup equally well.

Reliability : 5
A small but big thing. The wheels suck!!!!!!!! At 87 lbs it makes a difference. Why get chincey on the wheels when everything else is very kick ***?

2003 model. Very versatile amp.
features a Di (with level) and tuner out (with mute button).
Input gain, contour which dials in a mid cut for a slap tone, presense, bass, lo mid, hi mid and treble eq controls - voiced to sound great when they are flat but loads of cut and boost.
Boost control to add growl - great with my Jazz. Seperate volumes for tweeter and woofer.
Cool extending handle which combined with the wheels makes transporting it much easier.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a fender Jazz and play a mixture of rock covers, from 70's rock to modern funky stuff. The amp covers it all. As loud as you want and using the contour and boost controls you get a great sound at quieter volumes.
Sound is tight and powerful - awesome.

Reliability : 10
So far so good. Mega solid so I feel pretty confident about using it onstage without taking a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need to deal with them. The website has copies of the manuals etc so thats a bonus.

Been playing 15 years. I like a simple rig, sometimes I add a comressors pedal, but I've ditched my other pedals since getting the GK, it sounds great on its own. If it was stolen I replace it like a shot.

I've had my 700rb 210 combo for over two years now. I work it steady at 4 nights a week. I play with a trio playing soft jazz to rock standards. The power if adequate. I never crank the volume up past the 1:00 position, most of the time it is at 12:00. I also line it out to the PA. The line out volume control is great for that. The only feature I wish it had would be a amp mute that will still have the signal going thru to the PA, so that I can monitor the volume on the outside speakers only. My GK 112 combo has that feature. The five string setting is great also, I just keep it on all the time for tone.

Sound Quality : 10
I use most of my arsenal which includes a Marcus Miller jazz, a Ken Smith Proto J fretless, a Tune Bass Maniac 5-string fretless, a 70's Alembic, a '71 vintage Fender Jazz, and an 80's Ibanez. All except the '71 Jazz & the 80's Ibanez have active electronics. I use a Demeter compulator religiously! Oh yeah, this gig is an outside stage with storage behind the stage. So it is exposed to the elements all the time. I have cranked it up occasionally to the point of some unwanted distortion, but it seems to handle it well. Gk rules!

Reliability : 10
I've been using GK's for over 25 years. I used to have the tube amp head way back when. Solid state was just coming into the picture then. I also had a 200rb amp which my friend still uses till this day! It must be over 20 years old! GK rules!! This combo is bullet proof. I even bought a cover for it. Super reliable!

Never dealt with the company for repairs. It never broke so I never have had to fix it. What can I say? GK rules! My $1900 Eden 210xt combo sucks! Too expensive and unreliable....a 87 lb paperweight! I believe the GK warranty is for 12 months.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing professionally for over 35 years. I play any style which includes, Hawaiian, Jazz, funk, Latino, power rock, & country. I would definitely buy more GK products in the future. Solid company with solid products! I wish I had not spent $1900 on an Eden 210xlt combo amp! The GK 700rb combo is far superior and way cheaper!

This is a 2001 model, bought in Feb of 2001, Mars music (now defunct) anyway, I was all ready to buy the Eden 2x10 traveler combo, I saw this one and was hesitant, but once I saw the folding handle that folds into the amp for wheeling away (which is good cause this thing is a BEAST!) I was sold. I play 4 times a week in everything from beachside venues to crampt coffee houses, and its perfect for everything, The tuning mute really does the trick for changing basses, I do wish it had dual channel so I wouldnt have to change plugs all the time between my frettless and fretted. all in all its a great amp.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a 4 string frettless, a six string frettless and a curbow 4 string all with active humbucking pickups, and its perfect sounds for each of them. I am a sideman, so I do any style from country to funk to jazz to metal, and it can dial in any sound I need. The only drawback is that its a little noisy and the line out is not as clean as I would like, but thats for the sound guy to deal with not me. The amp is heavy, but thats because it can bring the whole house down with the power that comes out of the 2 10's, distortion comes at about 11 o'clock, but thats hardly ever nessisary unless your at practice. it kicks, even with the cone flex, its still a decent sound.

Reliability : 10
I have had this Amp going on 2 years now, and its only had one problem, I dropped it (I think) and i blew a voltage regulator, Gallien fixed it no problem and I didnt even have to ship it to them, I used a guy in town and he billed Gallien. Its got a year warrenty, but the parts are not as expensive as I thought. As a bass player, I never use a backup, because thats what the house is for.

Customer Support : 6
I had to get rack tabs for it cause I am rackmounting it, I called them up and it was not the best customer service, the dude forgot to get my credit card, forgot my address, and double shipped me, but it all got taken care of and now thier customer service is ALOT better.
Tons of authorized centers around. I found 3 in Nashville.

I am a professional, I have been playing for 12 years. I have played Carvin and SWR, I prefer this over all those, if it were lost or stolen, I would wait till later and get the new versions that come out in Feb 2003, I hear they are going to rock. I reccomend this to every working bass player that has to lug thier SWR 6x10 cabs up basement stairs while I have a kickback amp that is small, and KICKS! I am expanding my rig and going to use this as my small venue rig, I am stepping up to the new 800 model with 2 4x10 cabs and a wireless, plus I am going to seek an endorsement with them. Gallien rocks.

This amp is a 2001 and has active eq, high's, mid's, mid low & lows. It has XLR out direct, with 10db pad [volume out] control. Seperate volume controls for tweeter, woofer's & and post eq & effects "boost" volume to add growl to your sound. GK seperate's the high's and lows via a seperate amp for each. The amp runs on 8 ohms or 4 ohms [peak power]. It has an effects loop and seperate tuner out. By itself just using the 210's in the amp it is pretty loud and okay for rehearsals and small gig's but for bigger show's I use a seperate 15" cab, with a black widow 15" [with 4" voice coil] converted from 4 ohms to 8 via reconning the speaker and replacing the voice coil. It rocks when you use a seperate cab, headroom "all you might need". I have not used the amp's ability to seperate the highs and lows in my sub cab yet, but I imagine it rocks too. You get an extra 25 watt's when you seperate the high's and lows to an external 8 ohms cab.

Sound Quality : 10
I have played this amp with my P bass, a J bass and a six string I have with "soap bar" type pickups. Overall it works great with all of the above. When I use the P bass I get punch unending and really end up dialing off some of the mids and mid lows. With the six string soap bars I get just about any tonal range I want. I am a rocker and a slapper and this amp doe's both past my expectations. I have also used the XLR send when recording to a digital recorder and I find that it works well in it's representation of the true GK sound. One of my favorite features on this amp is the "growl" volume pot, with any bass I have used I can find a rockin growl if I want it or dial it off [about 12 down] and it comes back to a nice clean sound.

Reliability : 10
Personally I have not had any problems yet with my GK but I have read the reviews from other GK owners that they have suddenly "lost" their "woofers". This doe's make me nervous but like I said I have not experinced this problem. I run my amp pretty hard alot, just for the record.

Customer Support : 8
Never had to yet, although I did email GK about a question on my tweeter [it tends to be a little noisy], although you can only hear it when you are alone and woodsheding. They promptly emailed me and let me know that the condition was normal. This amp new comes with a 1 year warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass going on for about 10 years and guitar a lot longer. If it were lost, yes I would replace it. Overall for the classic rock, blues, funk I like to play it is just right. I finally found a versatile amp that works for "all styles" that I play. I compared this to everything I could find in the music stores and with everything I had played through before. Peavey, Ampeg, SWR etc. to me it's the best so far. The only complaint I have about this amp is that is weighs in at about 78 lbs it's a heavey one. But then we bass players are used to that, haw!. I spent countless hours price shopping for this and in the end I got a good deal on it. Overall I am super happy with this amp and I cannot think of playing another. I would recommend it to just about every bass player. Although I do not play metal or standup so you guy's have to judge for yourself. It is just a great all around amp with plenty of tonal variation and power to throw away.

Other review list the features, lots of standards some eq, the separate tweeter and woofer controls are nice. Most features you expect from a quality combo

Sound Quality : 10
I initially got this amp as a loaner from a guitar shop i was dealing with for a bass rig. I played it and immediately fell in love with the sound. I play christian metal (POD. Pillar) in a private band and southern gospel (Kirk Franklin, MS Mass Choir) at church. This amp handled the double duty perfectly. I absolutely loved the sound.

Reliability : 4
I had my amp for about 7 months and it crapped out on me. I read another review on a 1001rb combo that did the same thing. The woofers just died. The tweeters were still ok, but I'M A BASS PLAYER! I NEED WOOFERS. Each time I took it to the store I bought it from (they have been very patient with me), it would ply perfectly but after i'd get or at the next gig it would crap out again. This is sad because I really love the way this amp sounds. I just can't rely on it. If the anonymous reader (or anyone who knows what this is) who had this problem with his amp would contact me and let know how he resolved this I would be most appreciative (wulfspyder@yahoo.com)

believe it or not i have not contracted customer service as i have been working with the shop i bought it at to resolve the problem.

I have been playing for nine years.I have owned fender amps before. This is my first step up to 'top level' amps. I've undecided if I'll get another GK. I love the sound but I'm skeptical of the build quality.I was hoping mine was a lemon but after reading other posts here,..i don't know. Someone please post a reason why i should give GK another try.
