This is a non technical review. This is one of the latest ones before being discontinued so it does not have the angled back but does have the pullout latch at the bottom to point it upwards. I play Pink Floyd to Radiohead type stuff but only in my home studio. It nails those sounds very well and is very versatile. All controls are really responsive.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a G&L SB2 Tribute using mainly the neck pup to get that P bass sound. This amp sounds simply amazing for the price. I have owned several high end rigs including Eden, SWR and an old AMP (should have never sold the AMP BH-420) and this is right there with them all but since the price is so good I would say better. Simply put - if you can't get a sound you like out of this thing then you are a seriously picky bass player. No pun intended.

Reliability : 10
No issues.

They seem very cool out there in Arizona. Chris is a super cool guy in service and very willing to help out.

As you can tell I am not a pro bass player yet I'm playing pro level equipment here with this smokin amp. I have owned great amps in the past and recently went out a test drove several amps before buying this used but in very good condition. I can't imagine getting more bang for the buck. Yes Markbass is great but they aren't cheap. I'm not sure why GK combos are so expensive. This thing will blow a GK combo away. I love this amp and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a great amp on the cheaper side.

Basically, its a 200 watt solid state 2x10 combo with a tweeter. The front panel from left to right: input, active/passive switch w/ LED, gain control w/ clip LED, 3 shpe filters w/LEDs (low boost, mid scoop, hi boost), low eq, parametric mid eq, hi eq, master volume, tuner out, power switch. There is an effects loop and direct out on the rear. This amp has a dual output switch on the rear which allows you to change from driving the combo at 200 watts at 8 ohms to driving the combo plus extension cab both at 100 watts at 4 ohms. Positives: I love the active eq which allows you to both cut and boost. The cabinet itself is really solid. It is a kickback style cab, with meaty handles and corner protectors, metal speaker grill, and a tough carpet covering. Its not really important, but I like that the speaker baffle is light gray, it conrasts nicely against the black cab and speakers. Negatives: The amp has a "soft limit" circuit, but no knob to control the limiter. The knobs seem durable, but the markers on them are tiny. The knobs are silver and the markers are tiny black dots are TINY black dots. I don't always play in the most well lit areas, and I don't want to have to be on top of my amp to see how its set. At least this can be fixed with a little paint.

I play a DeArmond Pilot bass (active P/J configuration) into a Tech 21 RBI bass driver into the Gemz Benz. I play mostly classic rock with an edge (cross the Stones with AC/DC), as well as some metal, punk, and blues. The amp alone is pretty versatile. Nice thick tone, the two ten inchers can really handle the lows pretty well. I like the fact that no matter what I play its always PUNCHY, I hate sloppy bass. Mids can be controlled to taste, either sucked dry or honky as hell. Unfotunately, you can't really get any real buzz even with the gain to the max because of the soft limit circuit. I really wish the limiter had a conrol knob. The amp really shines playing through the RBI. I can almost nail that raging SVT tone (like Jack Bruce or Geezer Butler). All I need is a decent bass distortion and my rig will be complete (for now).

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had it for a month or so, but it seems to be extremely solid.

I emailed them a question about the amp on a Sunday and I had a lengthy response on Tuesday, not too bad. Warranty is three years and it is transferable.

I've been playing guitar for about 5 or 6 years and I've concentrated on bass for the last 3 years or so. I really like this amp, I would have preferred an SVT, but wouldn't everybody. I really like the 2x10 sound a lot more than the slew of standard 1x15 combos out there. Great value
