(2) 6EU7 preamp tubes, (2) EL34 power amp tubes
50 Watts power, volume, bass, treble, and power/polarity switch with indicator light. This amp does not have a standby switch, line out, or extension speaker jack.
The (2) 10" speakers in this one appear to be origianl, and are far underpowered for the head/amp. They distort badly, and I think one is now blown. New speakers would really make this a usable amp. I added a preamp out and a speaker extension jack, and the amp works fine with other speakers.
The build of the cabinet, though sturdy, is very awkward. Changing the grill cloth to get to the speakers is a hassel. DONT PRY OFF THE GRILL - loosen the screws inside. And it has other weird quirks. Trulya relic from a by-gone era.

On it's own, the amp is very clear and very transparent. No added color like with an Ampeg. The stock 2x10 speakers will distort badly if you turn it up, but when the amp is mated to another cabinet, like a 2x15, its a very sweet sounding amp. Simple tone controls, treble/bass are best set all the way up. Rolling off the highs to warm up the sound only makes it sound flat - not warm and deep. Actually sounds warmer with the highs pushed. The tone reminds me of some of the old tube PA heads from the 60's, those that had 6eu6 preamp tubes. Very transparent.

This amp looks 100% original, and from my research, it's a 1968 model. 40 years and still working? How's that for reliability?

Non-existant. This is from Pre- Norlin Gibson days. I'm sure the folks at Gibson now have no idea this amp was ever made. Searching th internet for info is almost non-existant as well.

I bought this because:
1) It's a tube bass amp,
2) It's a Gibson,
3)It's called "THOR!!!", and
4) I thought it would make a great conversation piece to go along with my Gibson T-bird. Use it as a coffee table or something?
I honestly can't see me using it in a real band situation, unless perhaps I was doing an acoustic show. For a rock show, I might use it for a preamp but I would still feed some bigger stage rigs.

THOR is super basic. He has 2 inputs, volume, bass & treble; on/off with reverse polarity; and a speaker out which does not shut off his built-in speakers. I think He is a 50-Watter with two beautiful glowing tubes in back, the speakers have been changed because they are in really good shape and sound very round, no distortion like the other reviews mention.

I actually use THOR for guitar. I have a Japanese Epiphone Les Paul and an old Hagstrom F200. I run them through a basic Boss pedal setup (EQ, OD1 or HM2 distortion, compressor). I must say that if you plug your guitar straight in, you do not get a whole lot of volume out of Him...Unless you inject Him with a very high gain signal (like from a compressor or through a preamp first) THEN THIS BEAST ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!! Just for fun I ran my rig through a Randall RG100ES (think Dimebag Darrell R.I.P.) and 'line out' straight into THOR's input. HOLY SHIT I WAS SCARED TO BREAK GLASS. But I was also afraid to blow THOR's lid, so I respectfully removed Randall from the room. THOR is simply amazing...I am in LOVE. My only gripe is He refuses to distort. C'mon THOR, gimme some overdrive!!

He is over 30 years old, which in human terms is like..110. THOR is a force not to be reckoned with.

I would not invite THOR to share the stage at Madison Square Garden or Wembley Stadium, but he surely would be there in the back room sporting a fancy shirt.

This is a tube amp. 2 inputs , basic volume , treble and bass controls.
It was built around 1965-69.
50 watts of distortion .
Not a very bassy sound. Quite tinny sound.

This is a basic 100 watt, 2x10 bass amp. It was made around 1974. I think that it is a solid state bass amp, but it might be a tube amp. It has a high and low input, and treble, bass, and volume knobs. It is your basic, quality bass amp.

I have played several basses through it. It has a warm, full, "vintage" sound. It is clean. It is excellent for blues, and jazz. You can use it for rock, if the band isn't too loud. The original speakers were terrible! They distorted very quickly. As a result, I put two Peavy Black Widow speakers in it, and it made a huge difference! I use it for practice, and for small, low volume gigs (weddings, etc.)

I've played for 27 years. I've owned many different bass amps over the years (Ampeg, Fender, Carvin, Peavy). I've always kept this one for small gigs, and practice, because it has a very good sound for its size.
