I purchased 2 of these amps new somewhere between 1998 and 2000. I play blues and classic rock. I use one in my home practice studio and one in a friend's practice studio. It has one channel, one input, effects in and out, 4-band EQ (low, mid-low, mid-high, and high), compressor in/out, contour in/out, and contour adjust. It is fairly light and the well-placed handles make it easy to cary. I play a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 active bass and I always use the compressor to keep the amp from distorting at high volumes. I never use the contour. I've used this amp in small venues (100 people) and it's OK for that, but I had it turned up almost as loud as it would go. It's great for my home practice studio but wouldn't use it for venues larger than 100 prople

I have a Fender P-bass Special with passive DiMarzio P+J pickups and flatwound string, a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 with active pickups and DR heavy gage Hi Beam strings, and an Ibanez B2B 205 with active pickups and flatwound strings. The Fender and the Schecter basses sound great though this amp for both classic rock and blues. The Ibanez, not so much, but that may be the factory pickups. The amp hisses a little when really turned up, but it's not bad. This amp can do slap and pop or motown and anything in between. I like a rich sound with lots of overtones. I credit the aluminum cone speaker with providing this sound, but it may be the amp/speaker combination.

I'm not sure what to say here. The amp circuitry has never broken down, BUT I've stepped on the input cable and broken the input jack twice. So, amp's OK but without an imput signal, the amp might as well be broken. In my opinion, this is a design flaw and Hartke should have addressed this issue before the amp went was manufactured.

I've broken the input jack twice by stepping on the input cable. The first time was about a year ago. I called Hartke and they sent me a new circuit board with the input jack for less than $20 and it came within a week. The second time was about 2 weeks ago. The circuit boards with the input jack are no longer available, but they sent me two input jacks for free. I think this is pretty good customer service for an amp that is 10 years old an no longer manufactured.

I'm 61 years old and have been playing bass for 13 years. I played guitar for 30 years before taking up the bass. I listed my gear under "Sound Quality" above. I bought the second identical amp because I liked the sound of the firstone so much. If it were lost or stolen, I would not replace it since it has been discontinued. But even if it were still in production, I'd probably find something else to replace it with. The technology of bass amplifiers has progressed significantly in the past 10 years so there's probably some new stuff that I'd like better. I would consider the Fender Bassman 250/210 or the Bassman 250/115. I'd love to have a Markbass CMD 102P, but they are soooo expensive.
Overall, except for the input jack issue, I really like my Hartke 1410 amp. It's too small to play big venues, but for my use, it's perfect.

Bought this amp on ebay last year, my parents paid for it as a birthday gift. Its a pretty basic amp, but very suitable. Its got one channel with an effects loop, a headphone jack, and also contour and mid boosts. Its got a 15 db+/- pot for low, low mid, high mid, and high. Really, its not really fancy, just a basic plug in and play amp. I didn't haev any need for much else.

I used both a P-Bass and a Yamaha BBN4II with EMG actives. I've played in punk bands, as well as my own jazz ensemble and such. It suits everything. Theres no tone that isn't moderately good on this amp. It hums a bit when the mid contour and compression are enacted, but its not bad at all. Its quieter than single coil hum. Up around 7 or 8, I had some trouble with slight distortion, but I really never needed it past around 6 because its so loud, so there wasn't much problem. The distortion wasn't even that bad, just some fuzziness. Hey, Jaco played aluminum cones for a reason...

When I bought it used, the input jack was a bit messed up, just loose. Then someone stomped on my cable, thus causing a need for it to be replaced. The amp itself has never broken down. Its very reliable.

Never dealt with Hartke, since I bought it used.

If it were stolen, I would definitely buy another. It was a great bargain for a great amp. It gets the job done with ease. Its very portable, came with casters, and relatively lightweight, weighing in at like 60 pounds or so. The only annoyance is that the head only goes back a few inches into the body. This leaves an inch wide gap that stretches four inches until the head can be reached. This makes it a pain to plug the power cord and speaker cords into the back of the head, but again, not really a huge problem.

140 watts (solid state) @ 4 ohms into 2-10 inch aluminum cone drivers. 4 band eq, effect loop, headphone jack, contour switch, compression switch. the head is plenty powerful for the combo, and i even ran a new sunn 4x10 with it. the effect loop seems out of place because this is prety much a beginner amp, unless you take it in the studio. there's only one channel and no line out but that's not really much of a prblem if you're just starting out. it is handy that you can disconnect the head from the cabinet though. the compression really had little effect until i turned it up past 6, but i kept it on as a precaution instead of a sound effect. i used it in small clubs and it was sastisfactory for some but really weak in others. it was great for practice, but if you're going to play out, get something bigger.

i played a passive fender 5 string jazz through it with the pickups wide open and the tone varied for the occasion. the aluminum cones may look cool but are pretty clicky, be prepared if you're used to paper cones. when turned up past 6 or 7 some distortion occured. to counteract the natural high frequency acctentuation, i always kept the contour swith engaged which acts like a mid notch and boosted the low and low mid slightly, cut the upper mid way back and cut back on the high. it's good for rock and metal styles because the high frequencies really come through, but for reggae of funk, the warmth just isnt there.

its a great beginner amp or for small engagements, although if it was stolen i'd go for something bigger, and not hartke, just due to the sound preference. its very portable and user friendly.

This is a bass combo with 2 10" aluminum drivers coupled with the Harke 1400 amp (140 watts). It is only 17" wide and 25" tall and weighs about 60lbs, so its good for practice and small venues. The amp has 4 band equalization,a contour switch, effects loop, and compression. It would be nice if the amp had an additional line out for another speaker (like a 15"), but it doesn't.

I play an old Ibanez roadstar II, with two switchable humbucking/single coil pickups. The 1410 does have a small amount of hiss when the contour and or compression are active. It only bothers me when I am playing by alone at home, never an issue at practice. I wouldn't be real comfortable with the sound quality at much over 6 or 7 (volume), even though the speakers are rated at 150 watts. Overall, the sound (of the 1410)is very warm and punchy, just like I wanted and the reason that I bought it in the first place.

I play only small venues (churches, worship and praise, acoustic rock music like Vertical Horizon, DMB, Pat Magee Band, etc) I've wanted an amp like this for a very long time, was happy to find it when I went to the Hartke home page. Love the sound, portability, power, aluminum speakers (not only do they look cool, but they sound great). Now I don't need two separate amps for practice and performing.
