This is a mid nineties cab
As far as versdatility goes I love this thing for live playing Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul but especially Rock.
It is quite heavy at 80+ pounds but I have tried to get lighter cabs and I am never satisfied because you need to punch through a mix and trust me NOTHING punches like a Hartke.Hmmmm new slogan anyone???
It has Two solid metal handles taht swing out and 2 1/4" input jacks that are wired in parelell so you can add another cab. 4-10" Aluminum cone speakers 8 Ohms 400 Watt RMS steel grill Heavy duty Plywood box, all wrapped up in black carpet with plastic corners. I may wire this thing up with some speakon Jacks If I get a newer amp but then again I might not.

I use this Cabinet with a HArtke HA 3500 head and a whole host of Basses, My main bass is an early ninties Fender Jazz-Plus 5 String with EMG's and a BTC control. But I do use it with a stock highway 1 Jazz Bass, an old Yamaha B400, a Music Man Stingray, A Mexican P Bass, A Warwick Thumb Bolt on, a Mexican Jazz Fretless, and a Yamaha TRB 5. That is a lot of different basses and trust me they all sound different. This cab handles all of them pretty well. I Play a variety of different music, but I will be honest with you I am primarily a Rock and Blues Player as those are the gigs that I tend to do most. Very Punchy good bottom end good bite Does not sizzle like some other cabs with horns that I have had. But that is a good thing IMHO it is a lot brighter than most paper cone drivers but it is not harsh.

This is the Only Cab I ever Travel with. It is my second Hartke Cabinet, I had a late eighties transporter 410 and I got a new job that I made lots more money at so out with the "Cheap" Transporter and in with the "More Expensive" unit. The Transporter was voiced very similiar to this cab, and was just as tough and reliable there really was no reason to sell it other than I wanted the more expensive cab.

Never had to deal with Hartke, so I don't know how thier customer support is. However they are owned by Samson Technologies now so its not really the same company that Larry Hartke started. (Kind of like Fender.)
However I have never needed service on this piece and trust me this thing gets nothing but abuse. It stays outside in the back of the truck all the time.(With a cap on the truck of coarse). It gets Moved by roadies that really do not take care about it the way that I would when I move it.

I have been playing 20+ years I remember when nobody liked these cabs at all because they were "too bright" or "Brittle" sounding. As the older players used to tell me. This was back when Hartke was the esoteric company. How times have changed now I see them every where. and I would say that more than any other company (except Ampeg) Hartke has defined the sound of Bass. I have owned lots of cabs and amplifier combinations and lots of them are fantasic sound great and are well built. But Hartke works for me and I have noticed that at least around here the guys with the aluminum cabinets tend to work more than the guys with the more costly boutique gear that never really punches quite the same way. If this were stolen I would get another one without batting an eye-lash.
The reason I give it a 7 here is that as I get older this thing gets heavier and at 80+ lbs its no lightwieght to begin with.

This cab has a great sound. They describe it as transient attack and that kind of really makes sense. It lets the tone of the bass through, the other people on this page are right, it is a little thin in the low mids but I think this is where you get the clarity from. You get the weight of sound (plenty of thump) and great definition of pitch. Eden or ashdown amps from the past few years now kind of out class it now at it's own game, which is the only downside. The guy who says it's not loud enough must be mental. I use it with a G+L ASAT and a 1400 head and never, ever been beyond 12 o clock on the dial, up against a guitarist with a TSL Marshall stack and a drummer with a masochistic approach to his hearing. It has also been used extensively with a 18 piece soul band and it fits right in without out ever dominating. It is worth noting that when checking your onstage volume stand as far a way as possible, this cab seems to be louder 10 feet away than up close.

In 8 years of ownership I've managed to do more damage to my back lugging this thing around than to the cab itself. It'll let you know if you're pushing it too much, but at that point you'll seriously annoying everyone else in the band anyway as they won't be able to hear themselves.

Hartke seems to be bit of an accquired taste but I love it. You are not going to be able to do somethings other amps do, that's what people like Ampeg are for, but likewise the bottom end of my heavy rock band would not be the same, or as interesting if I'd stuck to the ampeg approach. I kmow my dream set up would not involve the little silver speakers which look cooler than hell but out lay for an eden rig which would only improve my sound by 5%, it just isn't worth it. For now I'll stick to having my little but really effective and loud rig.

Great lows, impressive high mids and harsh treble. It lacks low mids, but I'm using a mahogany neckthru bass so I have to EQ them out anyways. the sound of this cabs is very modern, you may dislike it but its quality is superb.

I'm in love with this cab, I bought it because I needed a cheap cab for gigging, and now I'm looking forward to buy a second 410XL. They say this is a love-or-hate cab. Well, I love it.

Hartke Systems Transient Attack XL series 410 bass module, made in late 80's or early 90's (it's an old one). Aluminum drivers, 2 ports, no tweeter, flip up style handles, crappy carpet covering, 8 ohms @ 240 watts, casters, 2 input jacks in back. S/N HS410B-****
Plastic corner guards on all corners, small holed metal grating on front, painted black w/ logo. Simple but effective. A very distinct sound. Sounds much different than my Hartke MX series 4x10 cab w/ paper cones & alum tweeter. I think this could cover most styles of music you would want to play. Slap does sound good through this cab. Playing w/ your fingers sounds nice too. I play punk, rock, surf, country, rockabilly & some thrash (metal). A little blues too. Not many features, but it does the job well. I like the way these speakers sound, though I'm sure they are not for everyone. "Crisp" & "punchy" come to mind. The lows sound good on this one.
Try one out first if you can. I was going to buy it regardless. I had this thing plugged into an old GK 400rb at about 5 (both vol & master), & it seemed loud (I miss playing w/ a drummer; I have no way to guage volume right now). I slapped it a bunch on that volume setting & it took it no problem. Points off for the crappy carpet covering, but I guess they had to cut costs somewhere to stay competitive; the speakers are pretty pricy I guess...

Great sound. Crisp & clear, even as old as this is (see below). I used it with a lower line Spector & an SX jazz bass I had laying around. I was gonna pull out the P bass but got distracted. Passive pickups, I'm sure active pups would sound great through this thing. This works for the type of stuff I play, but I'm not sure if it would work for everything (jazz, etc). I detected no noise or sounds that you wouldn't want to hear from this thing (buzzing, popping, etc). I had a Peavy TKO hat would make a horrific crackle when you slapped the open E string. Ick.

This thing is 20 years old & still rocking. They are pretty heavy, & seem very sturdy. The plastic corners take the brunt of most abuse. These speakers seem like they would be really hard to blow with just normal use.

Been playing 20 years, got a ton of stuff. I'd be upset if it were stolen, but I got it cheap ($100) & theres lots of them around. I love the way these sound, but hate the crappy carpet covering. It stains easily & seems to collect cat hair. Hartke doesn't get much love on HC, but I like their old stuff. I think it's built much better than the newer stuff. This was pretty dirty when I got it (someone was cleaning out their garage), but it cleaned up nice & sounds good. If you get one, put some casters on the bottom, it will save your back (you can get them cheap at any hardware store). I always keep a couple of sets laying around in case the cabs I buy don't have them. I don't think the lack of a tweeter makes much difference with these aluminum drivers...

this is one of the first 410xl's pre-95 I bought it used in 1995 so it is old.
Extreamly versital, I play everything from upright bass Jazz to modern Active Basses through it, it is a workgorse.
Features > Two input jacks (I assed casters, a must have)
I would not ask for any more features its a straigh up solid built cabinet that has rocked for 11+ years

Late 90's KNilling Uptight with Davig Gauge Pickup
(Upright) > Presonus Aqoustic Q > SWR 4004

I have been playing sice 1986 or so. I have tons of gear so I will stick with the bass stuff. I have a 76 Musicmaster bass (my first bass) that never gets played. I have a 72 J-Bass with active EMG's that is my funk machine. I have a 72 P-Bass with a 90's fretless neck that I use for some jazz stuff. I have a late 80's PRS 4-String that I use mor most electric stuff. I have a late 90's Knilling Upright with ebony fingerboard and a Davig Gage Pickup that I use for most everything.
Amps etc, I have used lots and lots of various combo's of pre-amps & pawer amps currently I am running an ampeg SVP-Pro > SWR 4004 for electric & Presonus Acoustic-Q > SWR 4004 for the upright. I keep a very old Music Man 120 Tube head around for backup.

4x10" Allu drivers. 400watts@8ohms which is plenty for all the gigs i have done including large festival style venues. Some people think that it lack because it doesn't have a tweeter but the extended top end of the allu drivers more than compensate for this.

The allu drivers give a unique sound. Using my G&L 5-string (which has the most lush sound in the first place) i has the most amazing sounds. Can have a bit of a parping sound if driven too hard but a bit of compression normally is plenty to compensate.

Hartke 410 XL
2004 Model
Aluminum Drivers, Recessed handles, no casters, no tweeter
I purposely ordered the cab with no tweeter because i didnt want one,its a BASS cab, so i cant count against it for that. But the fact that there are no casters is a killer.

I beat this thing up with an Ibanez Ergodyne with a Fishman Piezo equipped bridge. These basses pump out the fattest low end and some eardrum piercing highs. This cab will handle all this bass can throw at it. The low end response is the reason i bought this thing. It will run with my black widow 18 at 30hz. The lowest frequency ive ever heard from a 4x10 cab. Ive stacked this thing next to an ampeg 4x10 and a David Eden 4x10 and none can hit the lows and sound as clear as the Hartke.

Ive been playing for about 7 years now. I run this cab with a Hartke HA2500 head. I own a Peavey Megabass 800watt head with an old fender 2x10 1x18 cab. Also have a peavey 2x10 Scorpion cab. Have played through too many cabs and too many basses with too many styles to not know whats good and whats not. But its still just my opinion.
Be sure and visit www.myspace.com/onedayless or www.onedayless.net to hear this cab in action!

Vry punchy, lots of mids and highs, perfect for slap or distorted sounds. poor response on low frequencies... i gave an 8. the 1x15+2x10 configration should be perfect, adding more bottom end!

I like to solo by myself and love to play anything Rock related. This Cabinet just drove me nuts the entire time I had it. I like a full bass sound (lows, mids, and treble blended nicely: no scooped mids for me!) and this unit came far from that. The low end from about 30hz-80hz is clear, but the low mids (100hz-350hz) don't really sound too great: a lack of thickness in this area. The mids were ok, mainly naisily sounding. The upper mid and High trebel content are where this cabinet shines, at times this spectrum of sound become way too ear piercing and I constantly had to lower my tone controls for this area: 800hz-5khz. Overall, this cabinet is great for doing any type of soloing thing on bass, other wise don't try it for any Rock Music. A lot of rock bass lines have a low mid fundamental to their sound (think early Van Halen, CCR, Black Sabbath) with the Hartke, I could not even get to that. The overall sound had no thickness/fatness to it. I thought that it would with a GK 800RB and a Warwick Dolphin 5 String. Lastly, this cabinet is way too quiet for band practice. it's only rated at 99DB and I was easily tuned out by a 120 Watt SS Guitar amp. all I could hear from my cabinet was annoying high end. Think of what would happen if more instruments were figured in there.....

For Soloists playing not so loud music. You might want have 2 of these to really hear yourself well on big stages, Otherwise buy something that you can hear yourself on. If you like Rock, buy an Ampeg 810E and you will have no more trouble with the volume war. Try before you buy!!!

The cabinet is pretty solid over all. I have used/abused it in many configurations. Used to use it with a ampeg portaflex B-15 (old school 1960's amp) sounds killer! Great for mellow bands with lower volumes, tight bottom end and great mids and highs. Now I use it in a tri-amped basszilla rig, doesn't shine so much there. Bottom line is it is solid when clean....add distortion and it sounds terrible...something about the Aluminum cones I think....paper is much better with overdrive.
