Ya ha!
This is fabulous! A great EQ section, a really good tube amp sound, Bi-amp is mono or stereo and has a crossover frequency knob, so you can wire it up the wrong way around and send your bottom end to a set of tweeter horns! Yay!
Compressor circuitry is a bit limited, though, and I'd rather see it expanded or dropped altogether.

This sits on my 4x10XL cab, and could run another three of them. Despite the insane, earth shaking volume this thing can produce, tonal control is remarkably flexible and accurate.
I've played jazz, samba, rock, all sorts through this, and it really can be set up appropriately for all occasions.
However the problem mentioned by another with clipping on the direct out is a real pain for me too. I want a Sansamp in the effects loop, post-eq.
The fan is noisy, but if you're live it doesn't matter. If you're recording, just use the patch bay and keeep the damn thing in another room: the signal to noise ratio negates that problem.

Oh Christ.
Don't get me wrong, this is a sturdy amp. The end escaped from its flight case, and all I lost were a few of the light-up eq. sliders: easily replaced, though no longer flashy.
However it has an utterly crippling problem with the power switch, something that persists even after wiring in a capacitor.
I've had some luck since I last fixed it by running it off a surge and spike proofed lead, but it has ruined a fair few gigs by now.I've had some luck since the last fix by running it off a surge and spike protected power supply.

I got this second hand, and found out about the easily fixable flaw only after the third repair bill.

I love this amp: it really kicks the snot out of anything else I've had or even played through in terms of sound quality. If it weren't for the very serious flaws with the direct out and the power switch fusing to 'off', then the score would be a perfect ten, and I'd never consider buying another amplifier.

I have been playing Bass for 15 years. I started on some old Crate then got a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ and thought that I had the King of Bass Amps, until I heard some cat at a small club playing thru a Hartke 7000. This baby was BAD! I went the next day and started looking around until I found a used one. It has an EQ and a Bi Amp that really separates the mids and highs from the low end sound. And you can adjust those separation levels, and a balancing knob for right or left. It has a compressor to tighten up everything, the thing I like the most is the Transient attack feature. It makes my bass feel easier to play. It has an input jack for active or passive Basses. It only takes two rack spaces which is cool. You can switch from Mono to Bi amp mode. And Midi capable.
Sound Quality
:

The sound quality is the best I have ever heard. I run it thru a Hartke 2x15 for my lows and a Hartke 1x15 for my mids and highs. The highs are very clean and sizzle and the Lows are very heavy and billow very well. For those who like to slap the strings, this is the best amp for that due to the transient attack feature. I play rock and metal and this amp can hang with both of my guitarist that play thru Mesa strategy 500???s and a loud drummer. Sound quality is superb. I never have to take the volume past 3.

This is the part that gets ugly. I have had this amp for about 3 years and it???s been in the repair shop 4 times. The first time the power switch went bad, the second time the volume pot went bad, the third time the electronic board cracked from the vibrations from the amp, the forth time the output drivers actually caught on fire and fried and that???s where I gave up on it and put it away and purchased a Ampeg svt 400 that doest even come close to the Harke in sound quality and raw bass power, but is reliable.

Very good support, but gets rather expensive overall in the long run. It was easy to find support. This Amp was not under warranty.

I???ve been playing for 20 years, I also own a Mesa Boogie Strategy 500. If it were lost or stolen I would get another one, but would never ever use this amp on tour unless I had two more for back up. I love the big power and the sound quality and the great separation that this amp provides.

The amp is extremely versitile, The EQ is easy to use and shape your sound the way that you want it to. I play Rock, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Motown, and I am able to get whatever sound I want out of this Amp. Setting up is a breeze, the DI out in it is the best internal direct unit that I have ever dealt with.
Sound Quality
:
10
My main axe is and old Telecaster bass with a couple of Jazz pickups slapped on it too. A lot of versitility I get from the bass itself, but it works pretty well with just a one Pickup precision, it just takes more knob turning. I play the head bi-amped through a Hartke 115XL on the lows, and a 410XL on the highs. It sounds superb through them. At smaller shows I don't bi-amp, I just run the 4x10s. The Live Setup of this amp is so easy, just bring your own mic cable and plug the internal D.I. in to the snake. Make sure the ground lift is on, and you won't get any buzz.

I actually bought the 115XL as a broken item. So I called the customer service line, which is Samson Electronics. They give you a return number, and then you send it in, It took about 9 days to get the reconed speaker back, and I haven't had any problems with it. I also sent in a wireless unit at the same time. That took a little longer, but I heard that they now have contracted KB electronics to do their wireless repair, and they always do great work. The only reason I am giving them an 8 is because their service line is always busy, and it takes a little while to get ahold of a real person.

I have been playing for a few years now, and I really haven't had any problems with this amp. I think that Hartke is the sleepers among the big bass amps. I think that they go overlooked while everyone is going after an SVT. I can get all the sounds that I want out of this amp, and I got it at 1/3 the price of an SVT. I can Bi-amp this and run it direct, I can even run another set of cabinets if I wanted to. But I think that as far as bass amps go this is the best overall value for a 700 watt amp.

I've been using hartke since college, back in 1989. THis is my second 7000 head, the first i traded in on a trace elliot head, which I traded in on an Eden head, which led me back to another Hartke 7000. The 7000 that I have now was made sometime around 1995.
I'm a straight ahead rock/prog metal player and enjoy the simple layout on this head and absolutely love the compression, which I am told is DBX. In fact, for a brief period one year you could purchase hartke heads with the DBX logo right above the compression knob.
The one feature i wish it had was a variable output on the back as I always clip mixing boards. This forces me to use either a DI or my Effect Loop Send to get to a board. Otherwise, this amp has been a workhorse for me over the years.
I do need to take it in to a shop about once a year to get the cold soder joints melted together again. I use this head live on top of a hartke 2x15 and a hartke 2x10 - sometimes with 2 4x10's!! This amp works hard for me at live shows and since it sits on top of my stacked cabinets I subject it to a lot of vibration, thus the need for yearly servicing.
The volume knob on this amp when playing live is usualy at 1 or 2. Sometimes I may go up to 3. It has PLENTY of power!
As other have mentioned, it has a sold state and tube preamp, though my ears cannot tell the difference other than an increase in gain.
I do run it biamped, lows to my 2x15 and everything else to my 4x10.

I play a Modulus Quantum 5 (sweetspot turbo). It does not have your typical pickup positions. The bass is loaded with EMG's and has a semiparametric EQ. i set the eq on the bass first, then on the head I dial it in with the contour knobs and then finally us the EQ for over all shapping. It sounds fantastic through my all-hartke setup. Clean, tight/defined and punchy with nice growling...

I've used this head for years playing in live situations. Its been very reliable for me. When I hear the tell-tale signs of broken soder joints (pops, crackling, especially at high volume) I send it to be serviced and then use my Gallien-Krueger 2x10 400rb combo. GK does the job, but i prefer the Hartke.

This amp is so old that the warranty is long gone. I have not dealt with hartke at all. I just take the head to a local electronics repair shop and they give it back to me good as knew.
I give hartke support a "7" simply because I do not know how good their support is as I have never called them. I'm sure its good....

I've been playing for about 19 years. The Hartke 7000 is my main head. The only other amplification i have is a relatively new GK 400RB 2x10 combo, which is never used. My rig is usually a hartke 2x15 and one 4x10 but I have powered four cabinets with this head: a hartke 2x15, two hartke 4x10's and a trace elliot 4x10.
Effects processing over the years has included Yamaha and Peavey bass processors, and curently I am running my old BassFex with a Rocktron. My Signal path is bass to processing to the Hartke head. i don't use the effects loop. I don't remember why I do this as it has worked well for me for so many years that i forget why!
This amp is very powerful - as a rock/metal bassist I need the extra headroom. This head is powerful and sounds fantastic at any volume in combination with my Modulus bass.

I play 4 and 5 string Warwick Thumb basses through this amp coupled to either a peavey 410TX and 115BVXBW, or a Warwick Terminator 2x10+2x15 bi-amp cab. Either way the sound is fantastic. I have used Trace Elliott and Peavey heads before but this seriously outperforms them. I play in an original rock band and perform basslines ranging from thunderously heavy to bright and funky. This amp handles all with ease. Mind you the Warwick basses have a vast range of tone by themselves. But I noticed a difference straight away when using the Hartke. I have also had occasion to use Ampegs, but I don't really see how they can justify the heavy price tags in comparison.

Did have one of those moments when the amp just shuts up mid song. Proved to be burned out capacitors on one of the power amps and this caused the fuse to blow. Since the repair the amp has been excellent. Sure it sounds a bit better than before, or is it my imagination? I do carry a backup now, a Peavey Firebass which I picked up after the breakdown. Haven't need to use it yet though.

I am based in the UK and Hartke are handled by a company called Soundtech. I sent the amp to them for repair and must admit that the service was excellent. I had the amp back fully repaired and soak tested in just a week. The cost was extremely cheap too.

If I lost this I would get another one. I really like the crossover. I wouldn't get one of the lesser Hartke models though as I know I would be disappointed. This knocks spots off the competition and I get nothing but complements from other bassists on the sound.

In my opinion the sound is good but (as usual) depends on the speaker cabinets you're using. I prefer a 4 x 10" Zeck
with EV speakers and an 8" Audax tweeter (for the ring ;-) for the treble and an 2 x12" Zeck also with EV Speakers for
the bass signal. Sometimes I change the latter with an 1 x 15" EV for the 5th string (low B)

It did well for rehearsals and gigs as well. I use 2 speaker cabinets to take advantage of the xover. A few weeks ago I
encountered the first (and hopingly the last problems) with the amp since it began crackeling. While playing harsh
popping noise came from the speakers with full gain. Since the pops were not produced by my thumb I was pretty
much annoyed and later kicked my (thanx god good protected ;-) speakers although I could imagine that it wasn't the
speakers or even one of the two power amps.
I began search the net for info, troubleshooters or any problems with that amp. I read many articles about bad (or cold)
soldering and mechanical damage of the connection between components and pcb. So I opened my amp a yesterday and
serached for the supposed to be little 'damage'. First I was quite impressed by the huge transformer in the center of the
case - WOW, there's where the power comes from. Then I inspected the capacitors that are of small size but the uFs
should be enough. I soldered these four capacitors again, but since they go right to the top of the case they are stabilized
by the lit. While reassambling the unit I accidently touched one of the components on the pcb. IC 115/116 with clamped
on coolers were pretty whacky so I also soldered these two guys. THAT DID IT!
The sound came back into the rehearsal room :-) The same punch & kick as on the first gig with the amp.

I DO love my Hartke 7000! In my oppinion it's or maybe was quite a bargain. I bought my Hartke a few years ago in
the music store in cologne for about 1.200,-- DEM (about 600 EURO or 500 $).
One advice for all Hartke users: Be patient with your amp. Since the soldering and the fixing of the components isn't
that shock-resistant you should be aware of this fact every time you carry your amp around. I know the amp is very
heavy but BE PATIENT.
I know Eden or SWR produce very good and maybe better sounding bass amps, but nevertheless Hartke is my choice.

This amp has everything a bass playing could ask for for features, including a 10+2 band equalizer, crossover, tube and solid-state pre-amps, and compression. I use it for jazz and rock, and it does well for both, even amping an up-right bass. The only negative that I can see is... well, don't buy it if you don't want to CARRY something... it can be fairly weighty.

I'm currently playing a Hamer Cruise 5 (active pickups) through it and it sounds excellent. With the electric bass, I'm an effect geek, using the Zoom 506 Bass processor, mainly, and a few other single effects pedals occasionally. I have never had a problem with noise. I also pump an up-right bass through the thing with few problems. The only issue I've run into is that it likes to feed back very quickly at high volumes, but with an acoustic pickup, that just comes with the territory. I am also not using Hartke cabinets. I have an Ampeg 2x10 Classic and an Ampeg 1x15 Classic cabinet.

The only problem I have had is with the power switch. Since, for some reason, we have a problem getting Hartke parts out here in Nebraska, my tech hardwired the thing "On", bypassed the switch. I have to unplug it to get it to turn off, but that's no big deal, really. If you take average to decent care of it, it will take very good care of you.

Being in Nebraska, there are really very few "authorized dealers" of Hartke equipment. I actually just found one yesterday, so I'm back to being fat, dumb, and happy about that. The one repair that the amp needed couldn't get done because we couldn't get the part, but I believe that to be more the fault of the shop I took my amp to than that of Hartke. I would have a hard time rating Hartke on Customer Service because I've never dealt with them personally.

I've been playing bass for about eight years, and have used all sorts of equipment, from Fender to Crate to Peavey to Ampeg to Bag End to SWR, etc, etc... nothing sounds like a Hartke, but Hartke can sound like anything you want. All of Hartke's equipment is a bit on the heavy side, including this head, but its a small price to pay for sound quality. I would have to say, if given the choice, I would definately opt for the Hartke cabs instead of the Ampeg stuff I have now (infact, I'm trying to find some Hartke cabs to replace my Ampegs), but I would definately and without a moment's hesitation buy this head again, especially at the price I got it.

This 350watt + 350watt biampable is great I run a hartke 410xl&405xl on top of a 215xl cabinet. it has it's own built in cross over and will shake your socks off with the 215's! 1 solidsate preamp, 1 tube preamp, Mixing them together gives you great sound versatility. you can set the amount of compressor from off to 1- 10 great for making an average slap player sound better! 10 or 12 band eq + bass and treble. XLR Direct out/pre or post eq +grnd switch (This is quite a high output level for where I like to run my preamp though). effects loop( lower level where I ually line out from. It has been used from church to concerts with 10000 people at it. It has lots of power and a great full sound

I use an Ibanez with emg active pickups not avery expensive guitar, but with a little eq i can make it sound great, but i have heard it used wiyh a Dingwall( $3000+ bass) flat eq sounds awesome. this amp with the stack of 4 5s, 4 10s, and 2 15s is Amazing! It has such PURE tone all the way through! From deep rich bass to very tight mid to nice crisp top end. I have set this amp up beside varios amps such as David eden to Trace Eliots, and can mimick any one of them with my stack. I find the Hartke amp and Hartke speakers are made for each other and really should be used together rather than mix and match the amp with other speaker brands. It just works great together

Awesome Bi-Amp feature w/ working x-over. But watch out! This Amp will fry the 115 Transporter Driver if you are not careful. I would recommend going with the XL 115 from Harkte (or any other 8 Ohm 200+ Watt speaker) The 410 Transporter, however, stands up and is a good cabinet for the 7000 series head. I originally setup with 7000 head, 410 Transporter and 115 Transporter. I am currently waiting a warrantee replacement 115 driver and will probably get rid of it in lue of a higher wattage 15" driver. I am looking at the 115 XL.

I'm using a Ha7000 head with a 2x15xl sub cabnet and the 2x10xl 2.5

listen to.with the Ha7000 you have the ability to drive the 15 inch
speakers at 350 watts and bi amp the the 2x10 2.5 xl using them as the highs.I did alot of research before I bought and worked with John Demaggio from hartke to be sure of the sound that is right for me.
This Hartke amp configuration gives the the crowd the chest pumping sound that they want at a concert.

I use several bass guitars first is a 1972 Kramer olympic with the
Aluminum neck.second is a Stienberger fretless and third is the new
Hartke ak4 bass loaded with EMGS and Vicarro t bar aluminum neck.
I am able to get very different sounds with all three basses all
pickups are active and are EMGS in the hartke ak4 and Seymour duncan
Lightning Rods in the Kramer and EMG selects in the Fretless.
When I decided to put this amp together I knew the sound that I wanted and figured HEY if Im going to spend $3000.00 on a bass rig
I refruse to be fuckin un happy...I did notice a big difference
between the XL 15 hartke speakers and the transporters 15 .if you go to Hartkes page the proof is in the reading.the low end Hartkes only have 60oz magnets and the XL 15s have 100oz magnets. As a bass player for many years I believe 4 ohms and 15 inch speakers and at least a 350 watt head is for BASS PLAYERS...8 ohms should be for high end only
not bottom...If your serious about perfection Hartke is it.but do the
research Hartke is more than willing to answer any configuration
